Sunday lunch amazing!!! So tasty one of the best we’ve had in a long time. Everything was so tasty and service from staff brilliant. New owners have really turned it around so pleased. Will be back soon to sample some of other dishes too. 😋

Very disappointed. We’ve been going to this place for years. We even had our son’s Christening there and lunch the day after our wedding. The food in the past was excellent. I believe they changed owners a while ago and on the plus side they finally allow dogs, so we went for Sunday lunch. The quantity of food was fine but I can only liken it to a school dinner. The beef was overcooked and tough. The veg was so overcooked it was soggy and the leaves had fallen off the broccoli leaving just a stalk. There was the tiniest amount of gravy on mine and none whatsoever on my husband’s. We asked for extra gravy twice whilst the food was going cold. People around us were also asking for gravy. Perhaps this should have suggested what the problem was. The Yorkshire pudding was nice though and the landlady seemed friendly. We felt that the food though was very overpriced and disappointing. I don’t mind paying that if it’s worth it, but it simply isn’t. They’d have to really sort out the food before we went again, which is a huge shame as it’s a fantastic pub in a gorgeous location.

Booked ourselves in for a family meal(5) and pub stopover(3) in the campervan… after a great local walk we settled in for a meal. Good range of localish beers and a special menu for the Bank Holiday. Orders taken quickly and beers arrive quickly. Food followed within 20ish minutes, no issues good pub grub would be my summary. After pudding and some more drinks we retired to the camper, all quiet by 9:00pm. Great nights sleep!

Great location pub , could be excellent with a bit of tweaking here and there , positives ; great beers / friendly place / best outdoor pub in the surrounding area , after a very poor food visit a few months back , we opted to try again, and to be fair the roast beef sandwich and chips was excellent , as were the other meat sandwiches we ordered , not sure on the main meals this time , didn’t try after the last fiasco , maybe the way to go for now might be top class sandwiches, rather than overpriced poor quality meals , In honesty I really hope this place does eventually deliver good meals , because this would be a big success for the pub . The area around the pergola and the tables on the edge of the cricket pitch was very scruffy today , litter and debris all over and glass also under tables , but positively better today

Do not waste your time or money going here. Had to wait 15 minutes for someone to serve us at the bar. There were no staff around, so we had to go looking for a menu. When our food finally came, I ordered a burger which was like eating cardboard. It was tasteless, cold and quite honestly disgusting. My friend ordered a pie, which was obviously frozen, and also tasteless. Chips were soggy, and the peas were like bullets. I could go on and on, but just don't waste your money.

We went to the greyhound on recommendation but I am sorry to say the food was a total let down. The prices do not warrant the food quality. The service was good but again a bit strange as you ordered at the bar and the server brings your drinks to you? It’s a pub which is bar service not table service. Saying that the staff were friendly and we will go again for a drink outside in the summer.

It’s great to see this place back open. Was on a downward spiral for a long time after being the place to go for family meals. Thought we’d give it a go to see how the food was once again. Sadly nowhere near the standards of years gone by. I don’t mind paying top dollar as long as the quality matches what you’re paying but this was quite expensive for what you get. At best it was just okay but not enough to entice us back. You can only give a place so many chances when there are plenty other places to choose from in the vicinity.

We had booked for Sunday Lunch and were really looking forward to it. However first off we were seated in the extension area of the pub so it didn’t really feel like we were in the actual pub. It’s basically an overflow room. No carpet and absolutely no atmosphere at all. Very basic and shabby. Plus all you heard was the scraping of tables and chairs on the floor. Music on which wasn’t too loud but nevertheless unsuitable for a Sunday afternoon lunchtime. The dinner itself was poor. The veg had obviously been sat under the heat lamps forever. It was all dried and shrivelled up and was very sparse. The Yorkshire pudding was delicious though. The meat too was nice. We ordered a dessert which was over half an hour coming. I had actually put my jacket on to leave when it turned up. I had ordered lemon meringue which turned up on a huge dinner plate! I struggled to find reasoning for that! I was happy to get out and sadly won’t be returning.

Saturday evening, 31 July 2021. Thank goodness Boris has allowed pubs to operate 'normally', Having been the scapegoat for this pandemic it's nice to be back in a pub with good food.We had a 'Starter'/1st course/entree (depending how posh you feel !!) of Salt & Pepper King Prawn (my ladies choice) or Chicken (mine), she was driving so kept to lime & soda, I had one of the cask ales, then, for 'mains' she had a huge burger, which looked appetising indeed! I opted for the 10oz Gammon. Along with another pint (both ales were in excellent condition) I think when everything is back to the real normal, (no chance of a change of mind by HMG,) there will be more than 2 ales to choose from. Both our appetites were sated, we even left some chips !! If you've not visited The Greyhound, I can thoroughly recommend it to all.Excellent value for money

Nice sunny day, we arrived looking forward to spending time seated looking over the bowling green. Approached the bar and was told to take a seat and someone would be with us shortly. After numerous occasions of the waitress passing us we again reminded her that we had not yet ordered our drinks let alone food. We were reassured that she would be with us next. Eventually the owner took our order for drinks, being informed that we could not order Prosceco by the glass only by bottle which would cost us £15. By now it had been 40 minutes wait and being parched we ordered the bottle. Now the waitress arrived with menus and left them for us to make our choice. A further 20 mins elapsed before our drinks arrived. After another 15 mins there was no sign of the waitress so we decided to vote with our feet and went to the bar to pay for the bottle to be informed that the till was down and so they could not give change. As another wait for the till repair was out of the question I told them to keep the £20 note. Thinking that some one would be tipped for none existent service I returned to our table to leave only to be told I had been misquoted and the bottle was £17.95. Bite me. Total waste of time the fiasco of which took 1 hour and 20 minutes. Until they sort things out, stay well clear.

We ate on the left hand side of the pub, the tables were spaced out enough to feel safe but it was very inconsistent how some staff wore a mask or visor but other staff didn't, we felt it would have been better for all staff to wear them. The young waitresses were friendly & efficient & there's a good choice of food on the menu, mainly traditional British food. Called for a drink after a walk over Tong Valley, missed this place as our 'watering hole' but disappointed with procedures in place compared to neighbouring establishments have in place. First no table service so had to venture into small pub area to order and pay for drinks. People passing to go to toilet and when trying to exit pub with drinks to sit outdoors there were people queuing at the door and not social distancing to allow people pass. This should be monitored by staff to ensure safety of customers. Noone asked to wear masks indoors and also no details asked for so no track and trace in place if there was a spike they would not know who to contact, just hope if this was to happen they would advertise the fact so people could isolate appropriately. The Greyhound should maybe look at procedures at Fulneck GC to get some tips. Probably not return at the moment because unfortunately didn't feel totally safe and confident in their procedures.

I don't live locally (as my Trip Advisor "handle" suggests, I'm in Wakefield), so had only visited The Greyhound once, two years ago. We booked a table for 9 people a few days before Christmas, as my friend was visiting from Spain with his family. Although it was a busy night, we were well looked after. the party before us were late finishing their meal, but we were happy enough to have a drink and chat in the bar, and were then taken to the restaurant part of the pub. There was plenty of room and the lady who served us was incredibly nice, amending the menu where necessary (with no fuss) to take into account our various dietary requirements. Everyone in the party thoroughly enjoyed their food, and all agreed that it had been a fantastic evening. The Greyhound is a very nice pub/restaurant in a pleasant village setting, and I can't praise the members of staff highly enough. I look forward to visiting again, and am sure that it won't be another 2-year gap.

Thank you so much for the effort and time you put into this, Kate.It is so nice to know that there are people out there who care about people with allergies and go that extra mile. Also, a big thank you to all the friendly staff!I would fully recommend this pub for its quality of food and lovely staff. I also fully recommend it for Coeliac’s, have a chat with Kate and she will sort something out for you.

The menu, friendly service and presentation of the food were all superb. What was strange was the taste. The chips were great, but the mash, steak pie and carrots were let down by very bland gravy. If this is similar gravy for a Sunday dinner I’d be sending it back. There were great touches, like the veg dish was warmed too, and the pie pastry was nicely patterned, so well done! Sorry Greyhound, you obviously put a lot of effort into the food!

It can be hard to find good quality standard pub grub without either a grubby pub or pretentious gourmet 'drizzle, or jus' but that's what you get here. Freshly cooked, nice portions in a separate area to the bar. Friendly service and no rush or fuss.

This is my second visit. on both occasions the pub has been clean and I have received a warm welcome. Both times the food has been excellent and reasonably priced. I eat here in preference to the Holiday Inn up the road where I stay. Only two real ale's tonight but both are good. The menu caters for all tastes and includes vegetarian. I did not want chips and these were swamped for veg without a fuss.

A pub I’ve been to on and off for years... the food is good, a good selection of beer and quiet enough that you can talk. Was tempted by the mixed grill ended up with a good gammon steak and a couple of eggs, my associate went for the fish and chips which looked very good. Will visit again

We came as part of a big group and weren't too sure what to expect, but left pleasantly surprised. My own negative is that a number of dishes were off the menu due to running out of ingredients. There was a vegan main option and a few vegetarian options as well. Portions were generous and reasonably priced. It's not a huge place, so I'd suggest booking if in a big group.

Not at all impressed We had their fish and chips The fish was very dry and tasteless and the chips and mushy peas were just about warm to say the least

We ate late so not expecting too much. Starters were varied but ok, I had the pate which came with enough toast for the amount of pate I had. For main meal I had Steak and Ale pie which normally is very good but this time the crust was a bit hard and the chips not as hot as usual, but the added gravey was very hot. Desserts were not good at all, not their usual standard.

This is a wildly popular pub in Tong, West Yorkshire. We visited a church in the area and asked for a recommendation of a place that might have a classic Sunday roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. They suggested that we visit The Greyhound in Tong but cautioned us that we would need to be prepared to wait!

Went on a Sundy lunch time and it was quite busy but got table straight away. Ordered mains of roast beef dinner and fish cakes and roast beef dinner very average, nothing stood out as being better than a standard carvery. Fish cakes arrived one luke warm and one stone cold in the middle. No excuse for sending out cold food - not to mention the dangers of uncooked fish! Really unimprssed and wont be going again. Much better places around serving better food and less pricey.

Have not been to this pub in years, but so glad we visited last night, this is truely an original pub, the look, the feel even down to the Toby jugs that have been above the bar for as long as I can remember, good choice of beers and gins, restaurant area modern and clean and the waitress kindly opened the window nearest to where we were sat as it was quite warm. Lovely choice of dishes, typical pub grub, the four of us had different meals, fish and chips lovely white fish and crispy batter, chilli with rice, roast beef dinner which had gorgeous fluffy crispy potatoes and proper gravy, my friend had a beef pie, all dishes were large portions and all plates were cleaned, we had the bread and butter pudding which was delicious, served by a lovely waitress and will definitely be returning in the not too distant future

This is a lovely pub we stopped by today for lunch. There was a new menu we ordered 2 ploughman’s and were very disappointed with what we got considering it was £11.95 each not good value at all. We received on our plates a half a ciabatta roll each , a bit of celery, mini pork pie , a small slice of Stilton with cranberries as they had not had delivery for cheddar, butter some tomato relish which was quite tasty and a small slice of roast ham and a small apple and a bit of mixed green salad not at all what we were expecting. It did appear that this had all been thrown together and not much thought or effort gone into planning this item. I do hope they improve this menu item for other diners in comparison the jacket potatoes looked much better value!

Spent several days in Tong on business. This pub is walking distance from the Holiday Inn and provided very welcome relief from the tedium of staying there. Very nice staff, food and very pleasant vibe surrounded by friendly, local Yorkshire folk. Highly recommended.

Visited here on a sunny day and was lucky enough to get a table in the restaurant, although my advice is to book in advance. Large beer garden outside so nice to drink on a summer’s day. Food was home cooked, reasonably priced and very tasty. Waitresses were very friendly and attentive so overall a very positive experience and we’ll be back soon.

The Greyhound is a quaint pub/restaurant with a good reputation, located in a lovely village and worth a visit. The atmosphere is very good, a busy venue with the restaurant food being above average with main course portions being plentiful. Staff are excellent with service allowing for a relaxed dining visit! The desserts appeared bought in and were lacking in portion size and were over priced unless part of the dining deals on offer.

Dried up, luke warm chips. Definitely not fresh. Cheese and Onion pie was disgusting. The pastry was soggy. My friend said his battered sausage tasted weird and smelt strange. Avoid this place.

Got my drink and sat down at Table 34. Went to toilet and dei k and a takeaway had been taken off my table. Told the bar staff who said they checked on CCTV but couldn't see anything going missing. AVOID and beware of leaving anything unattended if going into this place.

Just popped in with my family for some lunch today. We ordered beer battered fish and chips twice and lasagne for my Sister. The fish was generally awful, tasteless and very oily especially the chips. My Sister said that the lasagne was dry and not very nice. Haven't been to the Roebuck for ages but thought we would give it a try. In all fairness the lady who served us asked if everything was okay and we said it could have been better, just replied. I will tell him about it. Probably meaning her boss or the chef. No offer of anything else or money back. We definitely won't be going back.
