This place is set in a quiet traditional village. The pub is very authentic and has the classic feel about it,ya know the low wooden beams and old fashioned chairs with red fabric etc.The restaurant on the side is more modern and my family sat in here to eat.The Sunday dinners were brilliant and those tht opted for the pie dish were as equally impressed. The staff were all polite and happy which made our family visit a very enjoyable one. After lunch we sat in the beer garden and watched cricket for a while in the sun, how quintessential

Weve had a couple of meals there recently including sunday lunch, both of which were absolutely gorgeous. great classic pub food, and decent portions. def value for money. All of the girls in the restaurant were smiley, pleasant and efficient, and the bar staff alike. Surroundings bit old-fashioned and maybe a little tired, but it didnt matter, as very clean, and the food and drink was tops.Looking forward to going back.

Saturday evening, 31 July 2021. Thank goodness Boris has allowed pubs to operate 'normally', Having been the scapegoat for this pandemic it's nice to be back in a pub with good food.We had a 'Starter'/1st course/entree (depending how posh you feel !!) of Salt & Pepper King Prawn (my ladies choice) or Chicken (mine), she was driving so kept to lime & soda, I had one of the cask ales, then, for 'mains' she had a huge burger, which looked appetising indeed! I opted for the 10oz Gammon. Along with another pint (both ales were in excellent condition) I think when everything is back to the real normal, (no chance of a change of mind by HMG,) there will be more than 2 ales to choose from. Both our appetites were sated, we even left some chips !! If you've not visited The Greyhound, I can thoroughly recommend it to all.Excellent value for money

Nice sunny day, we arrived looking forward to spending time seated looking over the bowling green. Approached the bar and was told to take a seat and someone would be with us shortly. After numerous occasions of the waitress passing us we again reminded her that we had not yet ordered our drinks let alone food. We were reassured that she would be with us next. Eventually the owner took our order for drinks, being informed that we could not order Prosceco by the glass only by bottle which would cost us £15. By now it had been 40 minutes wait and being parched we ordered the bottle. Now the waitress arrived with menus and left them for us to make our choice. A further 20 mins elapsed before our drinks arrived. After another 15 mins there was no sign of the waitress so we decided to vote with our feet and went to the bar to pay for the bottle to be informed that the till was down and so they could not give change. As another wait for the till repair was out of the question I told them to keep the £20 note. Thinking that some one would be tipped for none existent service I returned to our table to leave only to be told I had been misquoted and the bottle was £17.95. Bite me. Total waste of time the fiasco of which took 1 hour and 20 minutes. Until they sort things out, stay well clear.

When I approached the bar staff and asked was it maybe after a certain time you could order at the bar she replied it was easier to serve them !!!! We called in today after deciding we wouldn’t wait for an hour for a table at the nearby garden centre. We are glad we did. This is a proper traditional pub serving a great selection of drinks and offering an excellent menu with quality food. We phoned and asked for a table which was ready on our arrival. We were greeted by a friendly young lady at the bar who showed us to our table. The food and service were of an excellent standard and I would recommend anyone visiting the nearby garden centre to use this fantastic pub for lunch.

Visited as a party of 4 to celebrate my husband's birthday last Friday. We ate on the left hand side of the pub, the tables were spaced out enough to feel safe but it was very inconsistent how some staff wore a mask or visor but other staff didn't, we felt it would have been better for all staff to wear them. The young waitresses were friendly & efficient & there's a good choice of food on the menu, mainly traditional British food. We were all happy with our meals, 1 roast pork dinner ( but no stuffing?!), 1 gammon, 1 lasagne & 1 braised steak all with a nice selection of veg & piping hot. We all enjoyed it & would return in future.

Called for a drink after a walk over Tong Valley, missed this place as our 'watering hole' but disappointed with procedures in place compared to neighbouring establishments have in place. First no table service so had to venture into small pub area to order and pay for drinks. People passing to go to toilet and when trying to exit pub with drinks to sit outdoors there were people queuing at the door and not social distancing to allow people pass. This should be monitored by staff to ensure safety of customers. Noone asked to wear masks indoors and also no details asked for so no track and trace in place if there was a spike they would not know who to contact, just hope if this was to happen they would advertise the fact so people could isolate appropriately. The Greyhound should maybe look at procedures at Fulneck GC to get some tips. Probably not return at the moment because unfortunately didn't feel totally safe and confident in their procedures.

I don't live locally (as my Trip Advisor "handle" suggests, I'm in Wakefield), so had only visited The Greyhound once, two years ago. We booked a table for 9 people a few days before Christmas, as my friend was visiting from Spain with his family. Although it was a busy night, we were well looked after. the party before us were late finishing their meal, but we were happy enough to have a drink and chat in the bar, and were then taken to the restaurant part of the pub. There was plenty of room and the lady who served us was incredibly nice, amending the menu where necessary (with no fuss) to take into account our various dietary requirements. Everyone in the party thoroughly enjoyed their food, and all agreed that it had been a fantastic evening. The Greyhound is a very nice pub/restaurant in a pleasant village setting, and I can't praise the members of staff highly enough. I look forward to visiting again, and am sure that it won't be another 2-year gap.

Toddlers do wander a bit but the team were super, also with helping my mum who is in her late 80’s. The menu, friendly service and presentation of the food were all superb. What was strange was the taste. The chips were great, but the mash, steak pie and carrots were let down by very bland gravy. If this is similar gravy for a Sunday dinner I’d be sending it back. There were great touches, like the veg dish was warmed too, and the pie pastry was nicely patterned, so well done! We received on our plates a half a ciabatta roll each , a bit of celery, mini pork pie , a small slice of Stilton with cranberries as they had not had delivery for cheddar, butter some tomato relish which was quite tasty and a small slice of roast ham and a small apple and a bit of mixed green salad not at all what we were expecting. It did appear that this had all been thrown together and not much thought or effort gone into planning this item. We all (3) chose a pie. There was only one steak and ale pie left so one of us ordered it. 40 minutes later, after watching other people getting their meals before us, who had come in after, the waitress arrived at our table and glibly announced that the steak and kidney pie we ordered had just been given to someone else, so what alternative did we want!! We were speechless as it was our guest's choice. She didn't want a fuss making so ordered something else, but I was livid. Fortunately what arrived was very good, so that saved the day, otherwise words would have been exchanged. Not good enough.

I've eaten here many times over the years and it's been good most of the time. A couple of weeks ago we had an excellent meal although I was slightly put off by the overwhelming lists of available food......The MAIN menu, then a Salad menu, and chalk boards everywhere. Clearly it's a load of frozen/microwaved food. Today we had Scampi for lunch with chips and mushy peas. The Scampi was OK (12 pieces) and the mushy peas were a decent consistency. The chips on the other hand were absolutely revolting. They looked like home-made chips but I suspect McCain or the like are peddling these awful things and no one knows how to cook them properly. We had the identical rubbish yesterday at the Three Horseshoes in Fairburn. Soft, soggy, fat laden, slimey and revolting. Everyone was eating them so it clearly seems to be acceptable to many but I won't be back until the learn to cook chips properly. The oil was obviously not hot enough, they were nicely coloured but absolutely no 'crunch' at all :-( Finally £4.75 is a bit steep for Peroni. It's not cheap anywhere but it's definitely NOT worth £4.75 a pint.

A really nice warm friendly greeting, nice atmosphere with good service. My husband had the mixed grill which he thought was lovely at 14.50, his chips were a touch over done for his liking though. I opted for the roast of the day, my mistake. On a Sunday it's £13 for three courses, my Monday roast was 9.50 for one course so it made my choice a very expensive one! The meat had clearly not been roasted that day and was obviously reheated, it was tough and tasteless. My veg was undercooked too. We ate late after a long day so I didn't want to wait any longer for food. I must say the veg was very fresh and of a good selection but it did lack flavour. There was plenty of gravy and the Yorkshire pudding was good too. Other than letting myself feel slightly ripped off we did think it was good value for money. There is room for improvement on that dish and i won't be ordering it again. Other customers food looked great so I know that the new team in here are really trying to make it a good overall experience. We will definitely be paying a return visit as we like to support local businesses.

Wow! The chips here were amazing!! Me and 2 friends all had panini's and we all really enjoyed it. Was a lovely pub. We sat outside as was nice and warm. And all thought the chips were the best we've ever had. Can't wait to return

Stopped at the Greyhound on our way to York. Beautiful evening sat outside in the beer garden. Had drinks outside real ales and good wine selection. Booked a table for the restaurant and the food was very good English pub food. Had pie which were made locally and very good. I ordered the steak and mushroom it was packed with steak and it came with proper chips. My partner ordered the pork belly delicious. We had a bottle of Malbec which was recommended enjoyed great value.

We’ve been here a couple of times and even when it isn’t busy, it feels like we’re not wanted. Doesn’t fill me with joy. However, It’s a nice play to sit and watch the local cricket team play on a nice summer’s day.

Having a family drive out we came across The Grehound Public House. It is very quaint in the village of Tong. We decided to eat lunch and made our way inside. We were made to feel very welcome. We ordered our drinks and made our way to the restaurant. It was very spacious and didn't feel on top of each other or other patrons. We all ordered sandwiches of various kinds. There was prawn mayonnaise, chicken, cheese and alopinoes then hot roast lamb. All served with chips and salad. All the sandwiches were really filling and I thought I had half a lamb in mine! The prawns were huge too. The menu was very extensive which gave us the difficult choice of what to have. The service was above and beyond. Everything was so good we've booked for father's day.

We recently arranged our son's Christening after party at the Old Tong Schoolroom and enquired with The Greyhound whether they were able to provide us with external catering for the event. Garry and his staff were more than happy to help and they kindly supplied (at a very reasonable price) a range of excellent food ranging from lasagne, chicken curry, chicken drumsticks, rice, salads, homemade sausage rolls, fresh sandwiches and desserts. The staff also prepared teas/coffees and continuously replaced food as and when required throughout the day. The guests who attended were all extremely complimentary about the catering that was provided.

Both the service at the Bar is hopeless and the meal service is the worst I have had in years. We were told that we may have to wait 20 minutes, an hour later we were still waiting. When the food came, without any hint of apology, it was sub standard and overall this pub wastes a great location with inept service in every department, not going back.

Called on our way back from Bradford and hadn’t been for years. We found a table and chose what we wanted for lunch......I went to the bar to order drinks and food and the young girl behind the bar was messaging on her phone. She never looked up and when finished her message served me... how rude and we haven’t been back since.

My birthday party of 7 adults & 1 child age 9. My son recommended this place for a meal. 15 mins before we got menus (BUT WE HAD TO ASK FOR THEM) further 8 mins before order taken. Starter GREAT---Long wait to clear table-- Main course GREAT--- longer wait to clear that we cleared up and left dishes neatly piled at end of tables. Desert menu taken --5 Adults and 1 Child's. ((Billed for 6 adults and 1 child. Dessert FANTASTIC. Meal took 2hrs 20mins for Sunday Lunch. During eating meal a man charged through between chairs to a rear door -- shouting orders to staff that were not in our dining area. One of our party went to outside smoking area and the same guy in front of customers shouting WHO KEEPS LEAVING THAT ******* DOOR OPEN--WELL THEY WONT LEAVE IT OPEN AGAIN and STORMED OFF. I was later told the guy was the manager. The bar area was so full we had problems getting out of the dining area to the exit door. Spoilt my birthday meal. I will say that we only saw 2 waiting staff taking care of a number of eating areas. Waiting time could be shortened if more staff.

Four of us tried this traditional village pub next to a cricket field in Tong for the 1st time today,August Bank Holiday Monday. We'd been to Tong garden centre & wanted some lunch, luckily there were a few free tables though it was quite lively & busy. The waitresses were friendly. We all ordered sandwiches & chips, the home roast ham was lovely, the hot turkey & hot beef were tasty & our son loved his bacon, onion, tomato & cheese panini. The home made chips were gorgeous. We all had a salad garnish & there was a jug of delicious gravy for the hot meat sandwiches. All in all a very enjoyable lunch, we would like to come back for a Sunday lunch sometime.

Very efficient, polite and friendly - we always have a good experience here. Keep doing what you're doing!

We dropped in on the Greyhound on the way home from shopping for dinner as we did not want to bother cooking. The pub itself is great friendly and welcoming the food on the other hand is not. We have eaten here many times and it has always been good this time not. The waitress was very happy and helpful the waiter maybe manager was the most miserable person ever could not be bothered a case of I am here but want to be somewhere else. The "large Chilli bowl" was only just OK the chicken was over cooked very dry the veg was old yellow broccoli and tasteless carrots with very sloppy cauliflower. The chips were unbelievable they should have never left the kitchen soaked in fat soft black and floppy. We did not wait for the bill we went to collect it asking the miserable waiter to take off the chips, his reply OK never asking why we did not want to pay maybe we should not have paid for the over cooked chicken either. We will not be eating there again, Greyhound there is a lot of competition out there you need to step up your game.
