Greenstone in Breckland

Went as a group of 6 for a carvery lunch. The carvery was terrible, shrivelled up dry meat, everything was cold. When complained told I had no right too because someone else on the table had finished theirs and that I should of complained at the start even though I hadnt eaten it. Will definitely give this place a wide berth in future

We are staying at yaxham waters and decided to go to the greenstone for an evening meal. The staff are very helpful and friendly no request was too much trouble, the food was well cooked tasted lovely 😋. We would definitely recommend a visit.

Carvery was not available but they did provide a plated roast dinner which was hot tasty and very well presented. Stayed for dessert which finished the meal off. The pub looks amazing with the Halloween decorations. Staff very friendly

We visited Greenstone Dereham after a trip to the coast. I ordered the salad with cauliflower wings, and when it came, I remember thinking that there was very little there for £12.99. When I looked at it further (I'd had one mouthful), I thought, "Hang on. Where's the quinoa oh and the rice and also the soya beans" I mentioned to the people with me that half of the meal was missing. I went up to the bar to explain, and the lady said that she would investigate. When she came back, she told me that the kitchen had run out of these ingredients, so hadn't added them to the dish. ( How do you run out of brown rice? They probably ordered it wholesale)She then asked me what I wanted to do, and I said that a partial refund would be nice. I was told that they couldn't do that but that I could have a free dessert or coffee instead. I didn't want a dessert but knew that one of the people with me did so. I accepted the offer. My points are this: 1) supposing I had been alone and I didn't want dessert or coffee what would happen then as I would have the right to a partial refund unless they didn't believe I'd only had one mouthful. 2) How can your kitchen produce a dish and then sneak it out without telling their front of house that these ingredients were missing when they knew full well that they were. I'd paid already. So sneaky and so unprofessional.

I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who wants a proper dined sit down meal. Me and my girlfriend came for what we thought would be a nice meal together. Firstly we came in and felt very uninvited by the mood of all the staff but we shook that off and got to ordering. We decided on a starter to share of the pulled pork mac and cheese which was shown to still be available on their online menu so once ordered we sat down waiting and received our drinks and was having a little chat. After 30 minutes a waiter came out and said they don’t have that which would have been nice to know a bit sooner but as good hosts they gave us a different starter and gave us 2 for the price of 1 which was nice. However once we finished them starters we had our mains coming which i ordered the Loaded fries and she had ordered the hunters chicken , around 40 minutes after our starter had arrived my girlfriends food had arrived which we thought both would come out together but both thought mine would be soon after so we waited , another half an hour went by and my food was nowhere to be seen and by this time hers had gone cold because we are polite diners and eat together so no-one is watching either person eat. At last I got up and had a civilised word with one of the waiters and turns out my food was forgotten about which they then had to make it while my girlfriend was still waiting and we then had to ask to get hers reheated which when it came back out the chicken and bacon was tough and chewy. We didn’t want to make any scene so we sat down and was waiting to see if any apologies were made and at long last. Nothing. At this point we had eaten as much as we could and got up and left with half of her plate still full because of the quality of the food. Baring in mind that the restaurant was mostly empty and in no rush state at all. All in all a bad experience and a bad experience to what we thought would have been a romantic meal and we will not be visiting again and turning people away if anything is mentioned.

It had been quite a humid day and when we entered the establishment it was very warm and the air conditioning didn’t appear to be working. Unfortunately the staff members were having to cope with a staff shortage too. We therefore were prepared to wait for longer than usual to receive our orders. Nearby tables were also feeling the heat, using menus and whatever else came to hand as makeshift fans. A waitress said she could open an emergency exit door to help a little with ventilation which was appreciated by the diners. However about 45 minutes later a male staff member who we assume was the senior staff member on shift stormed over to the door and closed it snarling that it shouldn’t be open as it affected the fire alarm whilst looking accusingly at the diners. He then turned smartly on his heel and stormed off not listening to anything said by the diners. The two waitresses who were also on duty were spoken to quite sharply by the male staff member more than once in the time we were there and looked far from happy. Whilst I appreciate it was very warm and staff shortages was causing problems I feel that there was no excuse for out and out rudeness on the part of the male staff member whose name I believe was James. Consequently I feel that it will be a while before I visit this establishment again unfortunately.

Celebrated Mother's day with my 88 year old mum and was greeted by professional yet friendly staff at the beginning and at the carvery in a fantastic way

Has the same fare menu as similar franchised outlets in Norwich, which have been good in our experience. Cannot say the same for this establishment. It started with the drink. I asked for a Coca Cola. At the table I tasted it and to me tasted awful, with a horrible after taste (to me), and took it back and was replaced. The reason was, it was not Coca Cola, it was Pepsi Max, something I have never had. I was not told they do not serve Coca Cola, I made do anyway but not drink it all. My wife's piece fish had been on a diet, it was the skinniest piece of fish seen, and covered with over done dark batter, and her chips were as mine, only warm. As said my fries were only warm, and again, the covering the chicken fillet had been over cooked to a dark colour, and affected the taste. We put his event to a bad experience, and mentioned we would not come here again. As it happened, a member of staff asked if everything was alright. We took the opportunity to complain about our meal, as above, he went away saying he'll see what we can do about that to manager. Having finished our meal about 10 minutes later, with no one bothering to come back to us on our complaint, we walked out. As a mention, the time was 14.44 when we ordered, and there were only 4 tables occupied. The carvery was unappetising, because I suppose the peak time for that had passed, with a dried up small end cut of beef, the gammon end cut was also dried out. The pork I could not see as cut side was face down. Definitely will not be going there again.

First time eating here. Couldn't fault the staff, they were very friendly. We had a roast dinner which was lovely, but nearly cold, only saved by piping hot gravy. Not sure we would go again 😕

The food was lovely and came out fairly quickly. Loads of meat at the carvery and the service was fine. Serving staff friendly and cheerful. Only downside, is that the chef had long curly hair and a beard and neither were covered! Surely for health and safety, his hair should be covered with a hair net? Not very good as he could drop hair in the food. Other restaurants seem to have hair covered for kitchen staff, so what is the ruling on this? Kinda puts me off from having a carvery there in future!

Really poor service today which was disappointing, no apology .Waited an hour for desserts had to ask if we had been forgotten.

We ordered 2 burgers and 3 carveries, burgers took 40 minutes to arrive. Good job we waited to get our carvery otherwise we would have been eating separately. The beef was almost non existstent it was so flat I thought I'd try my luck and ask for beef hoping they'd come and put a new piece out.. They didn't! It was gristly and hard because I'd got the fatty and Crispy hard end.. Not nice. Roast potatoes were hard, carrots were dry and grey... Not very appealing atall and the cabbage was also dry and very underwhelming. I had peas (safe choice) they were OK, Cauliflower cheese tasted nice but the chef needs to learn to cut the stalks off!! It was hard to find the florets. Mash was delicious and the Yorkshire pudding was yummy. Stuffing ball was rock hard, I didn't even attempt it. The burgers that my sons had were apparently delicious so maybe the greenstone could put more effort and care into the carvery. It was 1pm so not exactly mid afternoon, the food should be fresh hot and look appealing. I won't be hurrying back.. 😔

I recently dined at a delightful food place in Dereham and had a wonderful experience! The food was absolutely lovely, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. Although the beer was a bit flat, the staff were incredibly accommodating when I called for a variation on my meal due to a bad tooth, and the service throughout was simply lovely. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for delicious food and top-notch service in Dereham! would recommend instead of fast food place for sure

Before we got our drinks our cutlery arrived with blue roll as napkins. Then after a drink we had another drink, both drinks were the same but served in different glasses. Meal was ok but could have been so much better

Worst carvery I've ever tried to eat infact l left half of it we usually come here every Thursday after weekly shop but last week put us off so we went somewhere else which was actually slightly cheaper on food and drinks and it was nice so may revisit as near tesco but won't touch carvery

Food was inedible. We had a carvery and the Beef was inedible, the Cauliflower Cheese Hard and the stuffing solid as a rock. We were offered Steak Knives to cut our meat bur they did not cut through it either! A Chainsaw may have done the job! Awful experience and would not recommend!!

After races cancelled due to the rain my great niece rang from Fakenham racecourse and we were lucky for this pub to be able to do a carvery for sixteen of us family business friends on arrival we’re greeted with politeness etc seated together and can say we all had a lovely carvery ages from twelve to eighty one plus some deserts we had a lovely time we’re not rushed and would definately recommend vegs potatoes three meats etc

Visited Christmas day, first ever Christmas eating out and can honestly say we wasn't disappointed. Spoke with staff and chef about my youngest having 4 allergies and the chef went out of his way to make sure there was a dessert for my daughter, for a gluten and dairy free dessert it wasted amazing! Terrible, terrible ! Prawns in prawn cocktail 10 and cold nearly frozen . Meat dry , vegetables overcooked! Yorkshire pudding you can kill someone that’s was so hard . Marston Greenstones Inn is well worth visiting. The dining areas and carvery food is excellent value for money with meat and vegetables selection hard to beat for a meal for under £10. We look forward to the next visit!
