comment_iconOpinions

Staff were friendly enough, service was prompt, however I got a paltry amount of chips to compliment my "chicken" burger....no salad or owt. The meat was actually beef, which wouldn't have been an issue in itself, but the accompanying roll and 'toppings' were for a chicken burger, so I had mayo & lettuce on my beefburger. Not great, not even sure how that went so wrong and wasn't picked up by anyone. Photo shows the combination received, and the largely empty plate, can only imagine the focus was on the brioche branding.

Thanks Kieran and Tracey for a fantastic evening meal. It was delicious. The place was humming and the restaurant was very busy. The steak was superb, the gammon so sweet and succulent and the burgers were so tasty and juicy, well presented, the onions so tasty and no brioche bun. Perfect. Thanks for everything

Friendly welcome. Food was ok but very basic. Dry salad no dressing. Not offered any sauces with the meal and it needed it. Waitress very nice but leaning over people to serve other people. Decor quite scruffy too. I wouldn’t mind this so much if the food was better. It’s a shame Wanted a coffee at the end but they had no milk! There’s a shop across the road !

We arrived half an hour before they closed the kitchen. They let us wait for twenty minutes before we even could sit down and the place was nearly empty. The steak was not available anymore so I took a steak and al pie. The pie itself was small and looked like something you could buy at Tesco. After tasting it I found that it was indeed convenience food. And tasteless as well. At least it was cheap. I cannot recommend the The Green Dragon at all!

The food is excellent well cooked and piping hot. This pub has so much potential, lovely building, but no longer doing food. Now only pub in village open, so come on get some simple pub food going, get your fridges working, chill the wine, and you could have the locals flocking and passers by too. Open at 11am, do toasted sandwiches, panninis, simple stuff, people are always asking as they drive through "where can i get a drink and some food". Keep it simple, put opening hours on the door. Well done Courtney behind the bar for trying to keep it going.

This was booked by my friend, but we were all horrified that we arrived to find no kitchen operating, so no chance of an evening meal, and no breakfast provided apart from rather sketchy provisions left in upstairs "kitchen". Worse still, no member of staff on site overnight despite there being 7 guests staying (surely a Health and Safety issue?), so when fire alarm went off at 9 am on Sunday, all we could do was call the Fire brigade! Awful and I expect a full refund to all who booked it

Given this trip was a gift we booked to go to the Green Dragon as it looked like a charming pub in a lovely village. The village was indeed beautiful but the pub left a lot to be desired. Activity superstore promised us a friendly welcome with a relaxed evening spent in a traditional pub environment. When we arrived we were informed that the pub was closing its kitchens for the forseeable future that night so there would be no food. (no one had contacted us to tell us)We were advised to go to the other pub in the village where food was available. We took the advice only to be met by a surly barwoman who spoke to us so rudely we left immediately. They were not doing food by the way anyway! We then went to the local Coop to ask where we might get food and we ended up driving into Corby (6 miles away) and finding an indian restaurant. (hardly a traditional English pub experience)Undaunted we had our meal and returned to the pub looking forward to a convivial evening in the bar over a few beers and a game of cards. We parked the car, walked to the pub only to find to our dismay that it was in complete darkness and closed. (it turns out it closes at 7pm on a sunday and again this was not communicated to us when we booked). As a result our traditional evening spent in a warm and relaxed traditional pub atmosphere ended up with us in a deserted pub (not entirely sure anyone else was there) sitting in our room without any heating. The bed was small and lumpy so I slept on the floor whilst my wife had the bed.The sink in the bathroom was one of those tiny ones so it was not easy to wash and shave. We were given the use of a small kitchenette when we arrived as well with "breakfast available." In our view they should not have bothered Already opened bottles of milk and juice and the most horrible bread imaginable for make it yourself toast left us feeling this was really quite unsavoury. We decided not to bother reluctantly using it to make tea only.As a result of all this we decided to beat a hasty retreat the next morning. Accordingly we rose early this morning, left the bedroom key in the door and fled. What should have been a romantic and relaxing evening for my wife and I turned into a damp squibAs we left the building our entry in the visitors book was "disappointing".I am sure from the other reviews people have had a good time here, but in our view if you are going to put yourselves forward to offer the sort of service advertised by activity superstore you really should make sure you can provide it. This pub most certainly did not.

Went here for my wife’s birthday and was not disappointed. The service was excellent and the food is sublime Proper fresh pub grub and I tip my hat to the chef and the staff serving. Reading some previous reviews I think people forget that this is a village pub and that you don’t know what kind of customer footfall is going to be and you can’t overstock or under stock. We live in a age where people expect fast food and service and seem to forget that this isn’t microwaveable trash you get at the mainstream commercial pubs. This is a proper English country village pub. Do not be deterred from some of these reviews. What you want may not be available but they’ll make you feel welcome and do what they can to make you have a good experience. They excel in customer experience and I would highly recommend this to any of my friends and family.

We were a party of 5 adults 2 children and booked for a Sunday, asked for 4 pm. but was asked if we could make it earlier, not a problem, booked for 3 p.m. Some time after we had ordered our starters and main courses we were told that one of the starters was unavailable, so we chose a different one. We were then advised that the ham was unavailable for the main course, which we had chosen for one adult meal and the two child meals, so once again reordered and asked if it was possible that the child meals could be served at the same time as our starter. When we had finished the starters we then had a considerable wait for our main course, which meant that this arrived 1 1/2 hours after we had sat down at the table. Added to that the two roast dinners were cold and virtually inedible, tough meat, and yorkshire puddings and parsnips which were almost impossible to cut through. What is more disappointing is that I emailed the hotel with a courteous complaint about the food, and also the fact that we were charged for the two child meals when on the Facebook page it stated that children ate free with adult diners and I have not received anything other than a standardised web form response 2 days ago. The whole experience was very disappointing particularly having read all the recent reviews and I thought we had a gem of a local pub in the next village to where we live.

My second review in two years and given the recent reviews I was hoping for a better experience? Today, Boxing Day should have been a great day but instead no premier lager and just cheap gin, not quite the experience we were hoping for. To add to this the chef appeared to be dressed in tatty grey "whites" which to be honest doesn't encourage me to eat at the pub and although all the staff were friendly there just wasn't the atmosphere in there compared to previous years! Just very disappointed, hoping for better things.

It was then another 45 minutes before anything arrived. I ordered chicken wings and a crab salad with 'artisan' bread. The chicken wings were four halves, unseasoned and deep fried, with a shop bought hoisin sauce - £6.00. The crab salad was a few dressed leaves and celery with what looked and tasted like stale breadcrumbs sprinkled on top. As for the 'artisan' bread, I didn't even get a slice of hovis! We visited recently as a large party with a precooked table. We had to wait for a long time for a waitress to take our order ( about 30 mins) then we had to wait nearly an hour ( I timed it) for our starters to arrive. When they finally turned up the starters were all well cooked and tasty. We then had another long wait till the main courses arrived, about 35 mins. The crab salad was a huge disappointment, the crab had no flavour and half the ingredients for the salad were missing. There was no hazelnuts, no red onion and no bread all I got was a bowl of mixed leaves with a few chunks of apple and celery dribbled with a rather unpleasant Virgin Mary sauce. Another member of our party had steak which was described as lacking in any flavour. The BLT salad was also underwhelming. The burgers were ok though. After another wait of about 30 mins the desserts arrived. All I will say is the chocolate brownie was the driest brownie I’ve ever eaten! We asked for the bill and it eventually arrived 40 mins later. As we left I checked the bar area and it wasn’t that busy so I don’t know what the hold ups were. We arrived at 1 pm for lunch and finished eating at about 4.30 pm eventually paying the bill at about 5.45. We wouldn’t go there again. The food was lacklustre and the service was far too slow. In addition food items were left off the order like bread for the salad and a few other bits.

We went for a meal at this village pub on Sunday. Parking was easy enough as there are spaces around the outside of the pub but nothing specifically for the pub itself. We were greeted and promptly served with beer that we paid for straight away. We were then taken to our table to meet our friends. We were all having the Sunday roast and were offered a choice of meats. When the meal arrived the first thing I noticed was how small it was. There was only two roast potatoes which were tiny and a small amount of vegetables. My friend was lucky as she had three roast potatoes. The meat was tasty though and was a reasonably sized portion. We then moved on to the sweet menu. Whilst we were deciding, my friend went and ordered another round of drinks which she also paid for at the bar. I decided on a trifle which was lovely, one of the girls had a mix of two different ice cream and the other girl had a lemon tart with vanilla ice cream. This is were it seriously started to go wrong. The lemon tart was served with sorbet instead of ice cream as the chef hadn’t got any vanilla. My friend was not offered anything else, just given the sorbet which we returned as she doesn’t like it. It was replaced with a different flavour ice cream which was acceptable. Having finished the sweets, my two friends had coffee and I had another beer. The milk they brought was off and left lumps floating in the coffee. After a long delay, which was because they had to go and buy some milk, the coffee was replaced. To cap it all when we received the bill, they tried to charge us for beer we didn’t have. The bill was brought back twice before they got it right. The whole experience of dining at this establishment is one which I definitely will not be repeating. There are so many other pub restaurants in the surrounding areas that do a much better job of serving decent sized portions of food and drink that will not end up making you ill. after reading a review from a lady living in the village i wondered if what she put was true! now i know the answer it was not!!! 5***** food was served for our sunday lunch both lamb & beef were excellent, vegetables also very good!!! the shared cheese board also excellent. shoana & her team gave good service and after speaking to many locals about choices of beers and the prices this is not a good local pub its a great local pub. once again 5+++++ for all aspects. i should know travelling all over europe with my work this is a gem. give it a try and you will come away with a smile on your face

Came here one evening and have to say, what a brilliant pub. Great atmosphere, great staff and food was excellent! I decided to come back some friends and each of them said the same, just a fantastic pub. Shona Chloe and Georgia really do make the pub! Plus I can't compliment the food enough, definitely recommend!

We arrived for lunch. There was no sign of a pub car park so we mildly competed for a space by the market cross with clients with the hairdressers.

The decor and atmosphere in the pub is much improved since I last visited, some years ago. Staff seem friendly enough, however my partner and I were disappointed with our Sunday Lunch. Meat was served extremely rare, to the point of some parts of my partners lamb appearing raw, vegetables were luke warm and portion size was barely adequate. We were disappointed in value of meal (it worked out £7.50 each with a Groupon voucher), I would’ve been mortified if I’d have paid £13 each, which is the regular price (according to Groupon). Also partner was up all night with sickness and diarrhoea, the only thing he’d eaten different to me was the lamb. I don’t think we’ll be returning!

Lunch today at Green Dragon. Five of us eating pies, fish and chips and beef dish. Superbly cooked to perfection, my vegetarian pie was so tasty. Best mash potato around. The desert of homemade trifle was the best. Great food, great service, warm and clean. That is the place to go.

This is a lovely pub with very welcoming staff but the food didn't live up to our expectations. We have been twice before as a couple and opted for the pies which are usually quite good, but on this occasion the pumpkin and pesto pie didn't sound appealing. My husband had the steak and stilton pie but it was overcooked and dry, with no taste of stilton. It certainly wasn't worth the money as it was tiny. I opted for the vegan burger, which appeared to be a roll with a thick slice of paste. Every time I took a bite, the paste oozed out. It certainly wasn't soild as a burger should be. Our 4 friends opted for the steaks, and whilst they were cooked to their liking, there was nothing exciting about the meal. There was an offer of a free bottle of wine for two steaks, but I feel they were overpriced in the first place. The apple crumble was delicious, but was piled so high in the bowl, that we weren't able to pour the custard over it.

Went for dinner while staying in Brigstock over Halloween weekend. Staff and locals were in fancy dress so atmosphere was fun. Food was delicious Arancini and homemade pies with veg and chips(I did complain about the chips being too hot, which made our waitress laugh, we were so hungry) Too full for dessert but did manage to sample a couple of the great selection of gins they had on offer. We met some really nice people and had a great night.

We went to the Green Dragon for my birthday a few weeks back now. The newly refurbished pub/restaurant has been really tastefully done up by The Proper Pub Co. The staff were so friendly and welcoming when we came in and we had a good chat at the bar before sitting down. After we were seated we had a look over the menu which was also fab, really universal with lots of veggie/vegan options as well as gluten free and nut free (which is important to me as I have a bad nut allergy). I had the scotch egg for starter which was delicious and unlike Scotch egg's anywhere else, a great starter sized portion! Then I opted for steak and chips which was cooked perfectly and complimented with a lovely homemade pink peppercorn sauce and finally I went for the brownie which was amazing! Washed it all down with a very stylish gin and tonic as recommended by the bar staff and a few glasses of a lovely house pinot!Would Highly Recommend the Green Dragon and will 100% be back to visit very soon!

Popped in on the off-chance after walking in Fermyn woods nearby. Pub was empty (2pm on a Tuesday in October) but it still had a welcoming feel. Bar staff were very friendly and the food was of a very good standard (especially as it was their 7-4-7 menu =£7 for a main). Our dog was welcomed inside too. Comfy sofas and reading books available. We've booked Sunday lunch for a larger group. Well worth a visit.

Having just moved into the area my husband and I were looking for a 'posh pub' for date-night. Our first evening visit to The Green Dragon did not disappoint. This quaint yet traditional pub offers a fantastic range of beers and an exquisite menu; offering ethically and locally sourced ingredients delivered in both exciting and comforting recipes. The snug has a cosy, homely feel that allows you to kick back and relax during your meal. We were made to feel very welcome by the wonderfully attentive staff. In fact, we loved it so much we returned the following Saturday with my father-in-law, to be welcomed back by a friendly smile. We ate in the larger dining area this time; which we found equally well appointed and decorated. Having all tried each other's food (we didn't want to miss out on anything on the menu!) the scotch egg with a twist and pork belly won out for us.Suitable for both romantic evenings and family get together, we will definitely be returning to this lovely country pub restaurant again soon.

I visited relatives nearby and stayed at the Green Dragon for the nght. The room was absolutely lovely, and huge for the money! There was even an en-suite wtih some posh toiletries! I had sunday lunch before i left and the food was clearly of really good quality. There was a sign on the table about getting the ingredients locally and it certainly tasted like they had. I was driving or would have stayed for drinks because the gin selection looked amazing! The staff were briiliant, really couldn't do enough for me. One particular girl (with superb eye-liner skills, Georgina?!) was fabulous. Excellent value for money. Very very impressed, will be back! Will leave the car behind next time.

I visited the pub a few years ago with my husband and thought it was a nice enough village pub... but I have since discovered that the pub was recently refurbished and the difference is substantial! Friendly staff, beautifully decorated and cosy. The new menu is brilliant. I had the arancini to start, the venison as my main dish and then the chocolate brownie as my pudding. Beautifully presented, and had I not been totally stuffed I would have gone for seconds. I would definitely recommend to anyone, l can't wait to come back!

Welcome fine but shown straight to a table in an empty room, waited a lengthy time for the ordered drinks. Lamb pie on specials board ordered, told it was sold out though we were there before 7. Starters were ok, but served on a slate which made it very difficult to eat. Mains, pies very, very small, fish and chips, dreadful. Pork served was over cooked and very dry. Did not stay for pudding or coffee. Had to wait ages for food to arrive.

I stayed at The Royal Oak for one night whilst on a business trip. I also was fortunate enough to enjoy dinner and breakfast there. The staff were super helpful and friendly and both meals delicious. I have a couple of special dietary requirements and everyone was extremely accommodating. My room and bathroom were very clean and beautifully appointed. I would like to mention Emma on Reception who was particularly helpful during my stay I highly recommend The Royal Oak.

Seeing as my review was removed I will try again! Stay away. I went to the so called “quiz night” and it was awful. You would have found a better atmosphere in a morgue. Hardly any there, no music, vile smell and it was dirty. I use to frequent the pub before lockdown and it was fantastic. It has apparently changed hands since and not for the better. I will definitely not be going back. The smell and filth were enough to put me off my beer let alone dreary feel to the place. Very sad to say that I will not be recommending a once lovely pub

We were staying down the road at the Queens head, walked down the village and popped in here for a drink, what a great friendly little pub, Brian the landlord and his mum Linda, made us very welcome, we felt like part of the local community, we enjoyed so much we went back several times during our 2 night stay, and much preferred it to the Queens head. Thank you Brian and Linda for you hospitality. Julie G Shepperton.
