Green Dragon in Ashfield

The Dragon is a very spacious and clean pub. The owners are very friendly and welcome everyone and the regulars are just the same. They have a large selection of beers, spirits and Hardy's wine on offer. The Sunday lunch is very nice and worth a return visit. Most nights there is some type of entertainment to be watched or to take part in. A very good pub.

Saw they were doing beef and gravy cobs and fancies something different. It was really lovely and served quickly too. A nice atmosphere inside. It was nice to see the new landlord putting some heart in to the venue. As we were eating we could see him hanging new mirrors in the newly decorated area. We would definitely return and we will keep an eye out for the upcoming events as we’ve heard there’s a lot happening soon. Thank you Shaun and Darren 🐉

Great friendly atmosphere & staff . New manager has done a great job . Food was excellent ,good pub grub compliments to the chef . Great pub for family to go to with plenty of seating and parking outside . Will definitely go back . Very clean as well .

We have visited a couple of times for the Friday night fish and chips offer very good .

We had the fish and chips with mushy peas! Absolutely delicious with the batter perfectly crispy and the hips were amazing and freshly cooked.

Me and my father booked a table for Sunday dinner. Very nice meal lovely, the pub is looking better since the new owners taken over, highly recommend the food

Went here today for sunday lunch with family for the first time in over 10yrs, was sad to see on arrival that the decor was still the same, the wood floors although maybe mopped they had diffently not been scrubbed at any time, and the very loud country and western music didnt really make it any more appealing, we ended up asking to have the music turned down we couldnt hear each other over the table, it was turned down but not enough. We all ordered sunday lunch, and it was quick to come out, food LOOKED nice, but we found that the vegetables were barely cooked something we all commented on to each other. There was an over riding very strong pepper taste, my mouth was burning as was my sister in law's which we discovered was the gravy, its wasnt very pleasant. Everyone had finished their meal except me when a young man came to clear the table, I was still eating, my husband told the young man that I was still eating and he just stood there waiting and then took the hint. The total bill including 2 beers and 2 soft drinks was £66, none of us thought the meal was worth it. We didnt bother complaining as we all agreed we wouldnt return. What a shame.

Friendly pub and staff. Sadly not much choice of cask ales.

Went for the first time today, I had the jacket potato with chilli, it was huge and clearly home made, the salad was fresh and had plenty of dressing, my dad's vegan and he had the jacket potato with vegan chilli and his was lovely too, something for everyone on the menu and reasonably priced. The staff are lovely and it's immaculately clean. Will be using again, Hucknall needs a place like this I hope they don't close and do well. I came with the 2 children too, family and dog friendly. I will be back x

At last! New owners have brought a touch of decorum back to my favourite local. Beer spot on and food looks lovely. They are really making an effort. Make sure to register your car on entry, it's got one of those sneaky cameras monitoring the car park. Cracking pub all round again now.

Went in for a drink and game of pool. Expensive pool at a pound a go....but not too bad if playing a lot as £2 for 3 games makes it a bit easier on the wallet.

Beer was great, service awkward - the fish finger sandwich was batter between bread and a small slice of lettuce. The Ham sandwich in the other hand was top draw.

Went for Sunday lunch but unfortunately they had ran out of food 😫

A clientele who are very tuned in to live music acts.If this pub had a nice strong real ale on tap it'd be the cherry on the cake. Nevertheless, an eager-to-please landlord is always engaged with his customers.

An amazing pub with great staff, I came here on my own for the first time 3 months or so a go to help with my anxiety and they have made me feel welcome, I've now made good friends at the pub. Deffo recommend :)

Cannot fault this pub, great landlord and landlady, brilliant staff and friendly and welcoming locals. A Real family feel. Avoid this pub at all costs. If you even stop in their carpark for a few mins or use it to turn around they'll slap you with a £100 fine, not very kind during a global pandemic.

Had a meal here on August. The staff were lovely but dissapointed with the meal. The scampi was tasteless and the portions were very small. If it hadn't been half price would have complained. No register of patrons. Waitress had thumbs on our plates and no gloves. Really wanted to support this pub but can't on this occasion sorry.

Recently moved to the area, was out scoping the area - came across this pub advertising cask ales. Gave it shot, the cheese cake was beautiful, large slice garnished with cream and chocolate. Would have given 5* but they only had 2 cask ales on tap. But very impressed.

Booked a table for 3 for 5pm thinking its good to support a local business, turned up sat at table to look at the menu which was nothing to shout about and very limited. This place as never heard of social distance the bar was packed with drinkers, my hubby asked how do we order food was told join the people at the bar no table service disgusting will not be returning and defo wont be recommending, no track and trace go in one door leave by another but both were crowded with people dont think theyve heard of covid 19 or if they have then just igorning it be ashamed green dragon yes we git up and left !!!!

The staff are excellent. It's very clean and serves a great pint. THE CHEESE CAKE IS TO DIE FOR!!!!!

Since reopening and under new management the atmosphere is great, safety measures in place and I would highly recommend the food especially the burgers!

Shared a few beers with the lads Tuesday afternoon great atmosphere smashing couple serving good beers, all government guidelines adhered to, didn't have any food but will definitely try some on my next visit.

Unfortunately new owners had just taken over before lockdown so only saw them once. Were very nice and hope to be able to go back soon

New owners I think, so welcoming and friendly, they even came to my table and asked me if I wanted another drink... Don't play million pound drop on quiz machine. Answered 13 questions right and got nothing it's only 8 questions on TV for a million...... So not only the jackpot is just a tenner, you decide to change the game by asking more questions, the machine cheated. Or is it not the actual million pound drop game. Either way you cheated..

I have come here a few times now because a) I quite like Hucknall, b) it is a semi-decent pub and c) there is a great fish shop across the road.This pub is not going to win any Pub of the Year awards but it is an unpretentious place that hasn't sold its soul to "family dining." In fact, the lack of "families" (and by that I mean badly behaved children being ignored by their listless, useless parents) is what makes this place an enjoyable place to come.I must add that they do offer food here, but a gastro-pub this is not. It has a good, old-fashioned feel to it, with a large accessible bar where people can stand, chat and drink, whilst also offering plenty of seating should you wish it.There is a pool table and a darts board (which would almost certainly have been sacrificed by someone trying to turn this place into an eatery) and these are both in good nick. The pub also seems to be quite active in local pool/darts league which gives me the impression it has a fair share of regulars and locals and a good community spirit - all too lacking these days.

Landlord really friendly & obliging.Seems like a "calling in, of the locals on the way home" drinking pub.

Recently had our wedding party here was an absolute great place good music brill staff would definitely use this place again

I ordered a drink from the bar and my glass was chipped and dirty. The staff did not even apologise when I complained.

I ordered a meal last week and to my horror I found a fingernail in it so l went to the bar to complain and the staff and the landlady was very rude to me and my friend so we asked for a refund but it was refused. We ended up walking out and had a takeaway instead!

Arrived at the pub with 4 adults and my daughter, Pub cleanliness was to say poor at best. The person in charge off kids party seemed friendly but her own personal hygiene was the same as the pubs very lacking. We ordered several soft drinks and a pint of real ale. The fizzy drinks were fine but the real ale had a very funny taste as if it was going off, My daughter enjoyed the lights and music. Had some face paint done which she enjoyed also. There was a regular from what i could gather who came dressed to scare the children and after freighting my daughter several times and several warnings from my mother inlaw and my partner to stop he finally got changed ( i would have thought the staff would of told him being a childrens party) The party game was a non starter and the buffet could have done with more health options instead of cakes and biscuits and cheese sandwhiches a few crisps. Overall disappointing experience will not be returning.

Called in last night 25/03/18 after such a bad start at the Hucknall central social club you can read my review on that if you want anyway thanks for a entertaining night four of us called in wheelchair friendly that was a plus bar staff friendly great atmosphere a good choice of traditional beers and a karaoke night very entertaining we will be back.

Very poor service and we found a fingernail in one of the dishes.Complained to the staff but they were very rude.

Good selection of beers on the bar usually a couple on from Pentrich brewery only £2.75 a pint.

I came for Sunday lunch last week and if you want traditional this is the place for you.It is very good value and the roast beef melted in your mouth.This is my personal taste, but myself and my daughter found it bland.Saying that my elderly parents loved it.There was only one member of staff working the bar and one in the kitchen, so the lady was rushed off her feet.But she was still courteous and polite.Because of this we didn't ask for condiments and she didn't have time to check everything was OK.I am unsure if I would return but that's due to personal preference.

We were recommended the green dragon for Sunday lunch and it was one of the best Sunday lunches we have had for a long time mash potatoes roast potatoes plus new potatoes kidney beans cauliflower broccoli carrots peas and cabbage beautiful roast beef stuffing 2 yorkshire pudds big jug of gravy 3 adult meals 1 child 1 J20 I pint of beer which was only £2 half a lager and a glass of coke £31.18 all freshly cooked all fresh veg and wow it was delicious defo be going again well done to the cook who we personally thanks x

Return visit to Hucknall after 40 years. How sad to see the decline from a good quality pub to the typical drinking place of modern times. Will not be back.

Called in for a drink and noticed the menu said food served Monday to Saturday. We were within the times shown so thought it would be good to eat and save cooking later. But no. They don't serve food on Wednesday because they have some event on Wednesday night. So why on earth do they advertise that food is available? We felt disappointed. Come on Green Dragon, put up a sign saying no food on a Wednesday, then we would not anticipate something we cannot have. I am amazed that businesses can afford to turn away customers who want to spend money, and at least tempt people then turn them away. Typical Hucknall.

For some reason, this pub is never really busy. The only reason I can think of is the price they charge for beer compared to other local pubs.You always get a good welcome, they have pool tables, dart boards, fruit and quiz machines. as well as a decent selection of draught beers. It has to be price related !!
