Awful. The worst scone I’ve ever tasted, dry and stale and flavourless. The coffee was gross. £7.50 for a teacake - are you having a laugh? The toilet was grim. Avoid.

I very rarely leave a poor review but this is not a green and pleasant tearoom. The scones were dry and pretty fruitless. To my absolute horror a cat (although) friendly proceeded to jump on the tables. Having a cat allergy this was far from ideal. The floor was filthy and there were cobwebs hanging over the clock. A visit to the toilet again showed ample dust. I daren’t presume what the kitchen is like if housekeeping front of house is this bad!

First time to Bourton on the water. There were 8 of us who stopped her for dinner member of staff very welcoming and found us a table. We all ordered fish and chips 3 adult size and 4 children's also requested a jug of water, when the glasses came out they were all dirty with some still having lipstick on them. The meals came out which were all the same size but the adult were on bigger plates and had mushy peas but cost nearly £3 dearer. Would not recommend as there is other places nearby

**Review of Green & Pleasant Tea Rooms** As a couple visiting the Green & Pleasant Tea Rooms, we were initially impressed by the excellent location, which offers a charming and picturesque setting. The restaurant itself is very nicely designed, featuring an old-fashioned style that adds to its cozy and inviting atmosphere. However, our dining experience was somewhat underwhelming. We opted for a simple meal of fish and chips and 'dirty fries' from the menu. While the dishes were satisfactory, they did not stand out and left us feeling that our experience was quite average. We suspect that choosing a more upscale option from the menu might have resulted in a better overall dining experience. One notable downside was the absence of alcohol on the menu. For us, enjoying a glass of wine or beer is an integral part of dining out, and the lack of this option was disappointing. Overall, our experience at Green & Pleasant Tea Rooms was a mixed one. While the location is undoubtedly beautiful and the restaurant’s old-fashioned design is delightful, the food and beverage offerings did not fully meet our expectations. We would rate our visit a 3 out of 5.

We saw a sign advertising freshly cooked fish and chips for £10.95 which seemed reasonable but if something is too good to be true... basically cooked from frozen and the first chip I had was cold. Our children's meals were also basically oven meals. The single sausage was inedible, like it had been blasted for too long in the microwave. In hindsight we should have picked tea and scones but even the reviews of these don't sound too good.

I’ve never written a bad review before but this place was truly awful. The upstairs room was a smelly and dark storage area for random tat which had some extra (dirty and sticky) tables fitted in. The waiters were okay but the female staff we encountered were bolshy and unhelpful. The food was passable, but the milkshakes weren’t great and the milk for my cream tea was served in what seemed to be an egg cup! Avoid this place and don’t use the toilets - they had inadequate hand-drying facilities and an unconvincing lock. I felt sorry for the foreign tourists who sat upstairs looking bewildered at the very odd state of the room. It really did smell grim.

Nipped in here on a busy day in Bourton as it was the only place with space but in hindsight would have rather waited at another cafe. The Scone that came with the cream tea was chewy (a new experience) and it is the first time in their life that I have known my kids leave their chicken nuggets. My pulled pork brioche bun and fries were fine but generally poor and relying on tourist trade and the waterfront location. The table was sticky (even though the waiting staff cleaned it before we sat down. One of the walls was half painted and the track lights above us had been replaced with a fluorescent tube light which had a diffuser which was half hanging off. Very disappointing end to a great week in the Cotswolds.

Started queuing to get ice cream as this seemed the only place that sold local ice cream, however never made it to trying it due to seeing the tiny portions being served. Coming to the end of a little holiday in the Cotswolds we promised ourselves a cream tea as a final treat to end the week. Decided Bourton on the water a great place to go. We walked around loads of cafes and chose the above selection to have one, it looked lovely overlooking the bridge and stream. When the cream tea came the scone was more like a bread roll that had been microwaved, very doughy and chewy, not buttery and short as a scone should be. The tea was lukewarm as others had reported and the teapot was stained in the spout and inside the teapot and on the rim. Having worked many years in this industry I know this standards is not acceptable especially dirty utensils. Having then visited the toilets I was more upset to find it dirty. The koi skirting boards and pipes dirty and I don’t think the floor has been washed for a very long time. All easy things to rectify and such a shame.

Located onlooking the river this was a con kent place to visit. Greeted by an friendly and enthusiastic young lad who welcomed us and led us to our table. The food was nice but perhaps overpriced for a lunch menu. £8 for a jacket potato? The decor was cool, and had a load of houses/town scene models. We also enjoyed the tasty milkshakes. Overall, it was not a bad experience however, we won’t be coming back before trying other cafes and eateries.

Visited Sunday 3:30pm 6 December 2020, expecting the three of us to really enjoy their cream teas comprising tea, scone, and jam. Tea was not hot, so when I complained their solution was just to top up the existing tea in the teapot with hotter water! The result was slightly hotter tea, still not hot enough, and now over-brewed. No apology even from the male waiter. As for their scones, forget them! So disappointing as they were dry and too hard, probably stale.Overall, a huge disappointment. Shame, as this Tea Room looked so inviting and pleasant, especially given the cold and dismal weather outside. Conclusion: avoid.

I cant understand the high ratings here on trip advisor. We went in for coffee one Wednesday morning. I ordered a latte and a scone, the coffee arrived looking very wishy washy and the scone arrived with jam and cream (I didn't order cream but apparently I was charged for it). I took the coffee back to the counter and the young lad apologised that their coffee machine was out of order (no one mentioned this when I ordered). He did make offer to refund me or make a fresh cup, but we'd already settled at the table with our 10month old baby so couldn't really go anywhere. The fresh cup wasn't great (instant coffee) and the scone was stale.I've given it 2 stars as the lad who tried to put it right did seem genuine. But it was poor quality and they were not honest upfront.

In the 30 years of being vegan, around 28 of those have been spent being laughed at, called 'cranks' and certainly of struggling to eat out. All that has changed within the space of two years. Suddenly veganism is no longer a word of ridicule - it has become mainstream and acceptable. What that's meant for us is suddenly finding that wherever we go, we can not only find somewhere to eat, but we have a choice of where to eat and many restaurants also have a dedicated vegan menu. It's incredible! However, want a simple cup of tea and a cake and that's still a slightly more hit and miss affair. So imagine our joy, on a glorious July day to be strolling along the river in Boughton on the Water and to stumble upon Green and Pleasant. Not only boasting a menu for 'regular' people, but a fantastic vegan menu too, including what turned out to be freshly baked, homemade vegan scones, the like of which we have never tasted before. Non vegans would not know if they hadn't been told, but for those of us who are and who crave the odd cake or scone, this was a small amount of heaven served up on a plate along with a delicious cup of tea (with soya milk). The scones were so amazing - so light, so fluffy so utterly delicious, that we actually bought some to take home with us - probably not what they were baked for, but the charming and delightful owner (and baker) obliged us probably out of bemusement at our ecstatic state!! They also offer a menu of delicious sounding vegan curries and other cakes, as well as all sorts of 'regular' food to suit all palates. We were lucky with the weather and sat feasting on our scones watching the gentle river and the ducks, but inside is cosy and welcoming and the staff friendly and attentive and pleased to help (unlike the awful place we visitied in Bewdley the day before - but that's a different review). Here - we sat enjoying a sumptious elevenses (yes, it wasn't even tea time!) in stunning surroundings, served by lovely people. What could be finer? Not much. If you're there, pay them a visit - you won't be disappointed.

Popped in for a cream tea. Scone was warm, just cooked, served to the table with hot drink and clotted cream and jam. Delicious. Thanks. Beautiful setting too.

We popped in for a cup of tea and a bite to eat and after a quick look at the menu we got two cups of tea, a tea cake and a round of toast. When the toast and tea cake arrived we were very underwhelmed- when you pay £9 you expect a slice of nice bread, this was like Tesco value bread. The tea cake was unimpressive too, barely toasted and just very average. Quite cold. The spot is beautiful and the service was ok but the food was rubbish. Wouldn’t go back.

Had not planned to eat lunch out today but as a vegetarian who also has kept to a gluten and lactose free diet for 20 plus year having seen Green & Pleasant menu we changed our minds . Binned our prepared lunch & ate there . Wow what a treat . Service was second to none . There were no tables outside so we sat inside, however before a food arrived they found us a table outside although we had not made any fuss about tuis. The food arrived quickly & was delicious. Superb food & excellent value, We can’t recommend this establishment high enough. A rare treat with caring considerate staff & tast food to boot .

I think other tearooms in Bourton should get their staff trained here! Outstanding service with attention to detail. I only had a chai tea and cake which were both very nice. Looked like other food was good too. So I will recommend to visitors.

The setting is very picturesque and the service was fast and friendly. The food however was a let down. The mozzarella in the ciabattas appeared to be some wholesale, mass produced cheese slices that did not melt and were rubbery. The chips looked inviting but were so over-fried that there were no remnants of potato left inside-just pure fat.

Beautiful location, lovely staff, awful scone. Just awful. It had obviously been microwaved and was both soggy and chewy, bitter tasting and claggy. I was so disappointed!

We had a pot of tea and a scone which was lovely. We sat outside. The girl inside who served us was lovely. Shame about the guys who were on their break. They were out the front talking about the tourists and should be careful that personal conversations are kept private. One was smoking and chucked his fag butt on the floor. Again this should have been further away from the shop to consider the customers also sat out the front.

One of Bourton-on-the-Water's many tea rooms in a lovely setting with some nice outdoor seating. The staff are friendly & there are a number of vegan options (which are somewhat hard to find in the village!), including a few main meals, cakes & even scones. However, the inside is a bit dark, cramped & old-fashioned, the food is fairly expensive for what it is & I was disappointed to find they had ran out of the vegan falafel when we visited, which was the one thing on the menu I really fancied! In the end, they were happy to just prepare me a pitta bread with salad (minus the falafel), but it was rather basic & uninspiring & could've done with a bit more of an exciting salad ingredients than just the standard leaves, cucumber & tomato - perhaps hummus, grated carrot or roast veg?

We came across the Green and Pleasant tea rooms on our latest visit to sunny Bourton. We were all in great spirit, well at least we were before we entered for 4 lattes. It disappoints me to say that the tea room left a sour taste in our mouths, and that wasn't just the coffees. The man serving us was very abrupt, and got very rude when he found out we weren't ordering food as well. Unfortunately we won't be returning here, as it definitely spoils the idyllic nature of Bourton.

Stopped for coffee and a toasted tea cake early morning when visiting the delightful village before the crowds arrived. Service quick and polite, coffee and teacake good and a lovely spot overlooking the river Windrush. Recommended.

My family & I had lunch, tea and scones at the Green & Pleasant. What a fabulous place. Food was fantastic and the service was amazing! Matt (the owner) was awesome, made us all feel at home. We just wanted to say a Big Thank you to Matt & his staff for a lovely afternoon. The kids loved their little gifts too. How nice of Matt to give the kids a gift to take home.

We stayed in SotW for a friends wedding locally. It appeared everyone had come upto the Cotswolds for wedding that weekends at the White Hart was our 5th attempt at finding a spot for dinner - turns out 5th time lucky it was! We had lovely service throughout dinner, fantastic food in a really lovely dining room. Would strongly recommend, nice selection of drinks and main meals, could well be a lovely spot for dinner for two or small groups as well visiting the area.

Fresh food, great service, child friendly too, what more could you want from a restaurant serving Sunday Lunch. We've just come back from Sunday Lunch at Roots + Seeds in Cirencester. Crispy beer batter on the fish, really chunky chips (not fries) silky smooth mushy peas pretty much a perfect combination. The young front of house team have been well trained to make everyone feel welcome too.

A lovely tea shop on the High St. I sat outside the front on the limited pavement seating. The staff were lovely and the food well presented. The pasty was though expensive and there was no wow factor. The ice bun was heavy and sticky. The coffee was delicious. Would return but not spend so much.
