First time tonight trying out this restaurant this evening. Most pleasant decor and pleasant friendly service. Big problem was lack of food….. Pork rib starter was all bone with extremely little meat! Main dishes were poor in quantity and far short of normal portions size Was left hungry - paid the £50 bill and legged in over the road to the takeaway! Be warned folks - very little food for your money and be prepared to depart feeling hungry.

Staff was very rude found flys in my food and he blatantly said they wasn't when they clearly was and when I told him he said get out very rude very disrespectful avoid this place at all costs

Decided to give the 'Great Wall' a try for the first time. It was a takeaway I would collect. An uncomplicated order of beef with chilli & black bean, special chow mein, mixed sweet & sour balls 2 fried rice and 1 plain chow mein. Over the phone I was told 30- 35 mins. I arrived within 30 mins. I left 55 mins later without an apology for the delay. The quality of the food was a huge disappointment, only 8 small balls, which were chewy and insipid in flavour. Special chow mein was anything but special again mean ingredients mainly chicken very dry and tasteless. Beef in black bean was a sad, stingy portion (probably a blessing) again, very dry. I don't believe the egg fried rice ever saw a wok. It tasted like boiled rice mixed with some scrambled egg, awful! Plain chow mein was a portion of fine noodles dowsed in soy sauce, barely eddible. £40.00 Thank you very much! In summary, terrible food which was an insult to the buyer. I don't understand how this type of business continues to exist when the food & service is so very poor. Why do they serve food which they themselves would not eat? Who do they take us for? The good people of Rochford deserve better. First and definitely the last time.

Had to call to order, wasn’t advised of the cost, food was delivered very col. good quality seems okay, but hard to confirm as the food was cold.

Fantastic food staff were very friendly & helpful .. they didn't rush you to order or to get the bill .. very busy restaurant will revisit We did have to book

I went to this restaurant In Rochford Essex with 7 other friends. we had a reserved booking & were made very welcome when we arrived. We all chose different dishes so that we could share. we had duck, pork, lamb & various chow meins, sauces, rices & sea food platters.we could not fault the food. It was seved piping hot & was very well cooked & very tasty.We also had white & a very nice merlot wine with our meal. One of our friends had green tea & some of us had tia maria coffee to finish our evening. we had excellent sevice & the staff were friendly & attentive. Will certainly go there again!

I ordered a delivery. Sweet & sour prawn balls, satay prawn skewers, vegetable curry & boiled rice & mixed vegetables. Prawn crackers arrived too. All absolutely delicious. Piping hot. Friendly delivery driver. I would highly recommend.

Always great food, always warm welcome. Been going there for years. Never been disappointed. Even took a bus load of friends and family for my 60th.

Great Chinese restaurant. The food tonight is very good, especially the Singapore rice noodles are moderate in taste, and Yangzhou fried rice is very hot, which is the most delicious takeaway in Rockford.

We have used Gt Wall since living in Rochford for the last 18 months. We usually order the same meal as we know what we like. Tonight I'm wondering if the chef has changed? The shrimp curry was far too spicy and fiery, the sweet and sour sauce was thin and not the usual taste and the Chow Mein was very dry. Very disappointing. Viv.

The waiters are attentive and enjoy a humorous patter. I enjoyed the food, only come here for a treat, with friends. Would happily come more often if it was closer to me. Came with a group of 6.

We wanted a Chinese take away and decided to try the Great Wall rather than the one up the road in the hope that it would be better quality food. A big mistake it was awful, the stuffed crab claws were hard and chewy we left them. The chow mein was so dry I'm not sure what they'd done to it, I'm thinking it might have been cooked and left on the side it looked awful. The duck dish looked unappetising and was over cooked and tough. This restaurant is far more expensive than your local takeaway we might as well have thrown £35 away which is a lot for two people. We won't return.

This is the best chicken fried noodles I have eaten in Rochford. I will buy it again.

Not been here for years, and still playing the same CD for background music. Please, please change the set up. Attended on a Saturday night and only 4 groups of people in there. Very depressing tbh. Food was hot and ok

Food is very nice and the people who work there are very nice too, the only reason I didn't give a 5 star on food was because I woke up with a real thirst which would have been from a bit too much salt but other than that it was very tasty. Can't comment on atmosphere as I had a takeaway but the restaurant always seems like a nice place so I would like to eat in at some point

Excellent, outstanding food and outstanding service. Food arrived very quickly & was delicious. Michael made the whole experience even better, such a lovely person, funny, friendly. The Prawns with garlic butter was my fav and defo will go back. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone.

First time visit with friends and we were not disappointed. Although very busy, our table was looked after.

My wife and I had a meal here a few months ago. Very friendly staff, all dishes were freshly prepared and tasty. If it were a little closer to home we would use it more often. That said we will make a point of going back at some point soon.

Went yet again to give this place a chance to redeem itself from my last visit. Oh my, the staff are so rude, it brinks on pure arrogance, only 3 to our table, main dishes arrive, portions ridiculously small … only two dishes .. sat waiting for the 3rd …waiter/arrogant owner comes over to ask “why we not eating?’ , because not everyone has a meal? .. and basically this arrogant individual shouts “eat ! ! “ I replied “no ..when we eat ,then we eat together, “. If you don’t expect, at best, fair service .. if you want to be treated like your on the film set of Faulty Towers … We were here to celebrate my mother in laws 88 birthday , and all I can say this overpriced, disrespectful shabby and tired establishment is certainly a DONT GO venue

Well if you want budget food at top restaurant prices then look no further , heavily fried over cooked starters dripping in batter no fresh authentic ingredients or tastes whatsoever all washed down with a flat beer ,I think the barrel was last changed and the hose line cleaned back in 1992.! with that I eagerly waited on the most uncomfortable seat whilst bizarrely listening to nelly the elephant playing as background music out of 2 car speakers stuck to the ceiling it was at that point my enthusiasm of tasty fulfilling meal left my body . Before the mains came the waiter picked bits of food that had fallen off the plates for the starters with his hands which was a nice touch very classy . Quite disappointed won’t go back not sure how this place will stay open with the slop and the attitude they are serving out of this restaurant. Oh did I mention after we ordered out starters we wanted to eat and decide what we wanted for a main course however that seemed to upset the waiter and manager greatly as they began a heated conversation about us infront of us in Chinese in raised voices as to why we wanted to wait to choose our mains once our starters had arrived .all in all the best part of last nights meal was saying goodbye to it down the toilet this morning .... first last and only visit for me stop serving the cheapest ingredients put some love into ur cooking and on weekend evening you may have more than 2 tables full !!

This is my favourite chinese restaurant in the UK and I even drive 20 miles to get a takeaway from there. The Minced prawns wrapped in bacon are awesome. We had a few starters, honey pork, sweet and sour chicken hong kong style and singapore noodles and we were totally stuffed. 20/10 for quality of food. Just one small disappointment, they now close at 10pm, which is still quite early.

Our party of 8 this evening are feeling very disappointed in the attitude of staff. One of the group members knows Tony snd Michael for over 50 years but tonight took the biscuit ! At 10pm on a sat evening we were told no more drinks as they were closing and going home . We asked them to call us 2 taxis which they kindly did . Little did we know the wait was over 1.5 hours , the staff were rude in saying they were going home and had their coats on , I think rheumatoid expected us to wait outside in the cold !? One staff member said we have booked the taxis but they are not your personal chauffeurs !!!’ Very rude . Embarrassing and had they not stood their in their coats and had continued with a bottle of wine all would have been good for all for the long wait . But no , we all felt very rushed with the bill , spoken to rudely and felt very much that we had out stayed our welcome . Don’t worry You carry on treating customers like you did this party this evening and you will soon be out of total business as we all will certainly not be returning after 50 plus years . There are plenty of other local restaurants in rochford to receive better attitude from staff then we did this evening including a local cafe !! Good luck as you will certainly need if this is your attitude towards your so called customers

Our family ordered a takeaway last night, for 10 people. Was told 50-60 mins, as we didn’t mind coming out for collection but was assured that it would be no longer than an hour. The food turned up 40 minutes late, so when we negotiated a discount they took the food away to throw it in the bin. Very bad attitude and was told that they have been there for 20 years and do not need our custom, this is the second time now this has happened. Always use to go, but will no longer be ordering or going to the Great Wall. Honesty is a big thing and we would rather have been told the truth about the wait. It is a shame to see what once was a very good restaurant/takeaway go for money and pride over a happy customer. Will not be recommending

Been going here for years with my family. Always good food and good service!

Been using this Chinese for couple years and always been great but after not having it for a few months I decided to order and was very disappointed, food tasted bland and very salty, prices have increased which I understand but £3.60 for chips and from my picture what I received - tasted stale and like they have been cooked more than once. Also asked for prawn crackers which are normally free but got charged for them. Their menu does not show prices for all items either.

Our recent first visit to The Great Wall was nothing short of a triumph! Warm welcome in a modern and stylish restaurant, service was stunning and the food a taste sensation. We were really impressed with the depth of flavour in all the dishes we enjoyed and we loved the "pick and mix" starter option! Good Food, Good Value and Excellent Service! Going back very soon!!!!!

Made an effort to order early asking for a delivery not before 7pm the food arrive at 6.35 So 2 people missed the time to eat and one dish missing food was excellent as usual but poor service and guest missed the food being fresh very disappointed usually much better hope this doesn't happen again

Absolutely terrible today... chop suey was...wait for it ....undercooked beef with a can of bambooshoots thrown in..including the water/juice.no other veg.. no other flavour ..1 teeny tiny scrap of a spring onion..this place can be very hit and miss....everything today was a miss miss miss

The food was nice, as it was before, and I’d definitely order from here again, but tonight my chow mein seemed very similar to spaghetti, perhaps they were running out of chow mein due to the demand 🤷‍♀️ it was still nice though.

Have been coming to the Great Wall for more than 20 years, since it first opened, and the food is as good now as it was back then. I love the Minced Prawns wrapped in Bacon in Barbecue sauce and the Honey Pork. The spicy shredded beef is fantastic, too.

Have eaten in this restaurant but never had a takeaway and what have I been missing, ordered on new years day evening and what a delicious meal we had,fresh hot and full of flavour, delivered on time a tad expensive but so worth it, it didn't taste like a takeaway as good as you get in the restaurant, will be my new go to for sure,

Very nice welcome on arrival, prompt delivery of menus & wine list. Very attentive staff but not overbearing. Food arrived very quickly & was delicious. Love the rotating centre that allows everyone to select what they want. Good value for money & will go again.

What a wonderful lovely Chinese restaurant, the food was fantastic and great value for money. You pay for what you get here, the food was served piping hot and plentiful. Great for groups and couple. We came as a couple but there were 2 large groups, this didn’t affect the service. 100% recommended.

We went on a Saturday night at 7:15 pm for four of us. Our meal took 3:15 hours to serve and eat due to the fact they were busy. That wasn’t a problem. We were out for the evening. The food was okay although not very hot, it came served individually not all main dishes together. Strange...According to their menu our meal inc drinks should of come in at approx £150 (£146.30 to be precise )When we asked for the bill, three little scraps of paper were given to us and it transpired we were hugely overcharged. Our bill they gave us was £175. They did not give any indication as to why there was a huge difference, there was no mention on the menu of any service charge. We asked for it to be made a bit clearer & it came back at £160. We paid & left but won’t return

A very cosy restaurant with a marvellous menu. Reasonably priced. Staff are informative, helpful and friendly. I personally liked the Set Meal B for £21 per person. More than enough to eat and a wonderful choice including Mixed Hors d'Oeuvres to start, followed by Crispy Aromatic Duck and then a choice of five dishes for the main course. It's all followed by coffee and mints. You couldn't ask for a better selection and a wonderful atmosphere.

Considering that I drive from Basildon to Rochford for a takeaway from here, you can probably see that I love the food here. For a change, we decided to eat in and kicked off with a selection of starters. Absolutely delicious, we had the minced prawns wrapped in bacon (You can't miss those), spare ribs, aromatic lamb, chicken with chilli and salt and satay chicken and each one was fantastic. We decided to go for a round two and once again had the minced prawns, sesame prawn toasts, chilli and salt ribs and one other that escaped me, along with a soft shell crab to share with chilli and salt. And I don't know how we managed it, but we also had the special chow mein and honey roast pork. All washed down with a few pints, it was a great combination.I've been visiting this Chinese restaurant for more than 20 years, from when it first opened and the food is as good then as it is now. It isn't cheap, but is a fair price for the quality of food that you get.

We have been coming here for years, never had a bad meal, the food is very good, the staff are fantastic, it is the only Chinese/Cantonese resturant we go to, just love the duck always very tasty and tender, can be very busy Saturday evenings, but all good things are worth a wait and after all it's a night out to relax.We love the place.

Favourite Chinese in Rochford, the food seems to be much better when eating in rather than getting a take away, but the food has always been hot and tasty regardless. The restaurant itself is a small and cozy size, and the staff are long serving and very friendly/helpful.

Mid price range but all dishes ordered tasted great and swift service.

Foods is very good shame the owner chucked us out at 11pm after spending a lot of money on a celebration dinner spoilt the evening

What can I say just moved into the area and this was our first Chinese meal. It was the worst meal I have had in years poor quality no taste and totally uneatable the duck was so chewy had to spit it out when we told them we couldn’t eat it they laughed. Disappointed and disgusted please do not give these people your money. Total rip off no wonder there was only 2 tables taken on a Saturday evening had to give the restaurant a 1 but would give it a - 10

Me & my wife ate at this restaurant a couple of years ago and waited over an hour for each dish, we did say we wouldn’t use them again, two years on we decided to chance a take away, we had 2 basic meals from what I thought was a recent menu, when it came it was a lot more in price and food was stone cold, i think it’s safe to say I will not chance a third visit, but the Indian next door is def 10/10
