Definitely the best Chinese takeaway in the area. Very big portions, very tasty and great value for money. We always pick up and the food is ready and very hot. Love the Singapore rice noodles and the duck, only two of our favourite meals there. Highly recommended.

Ordered a takeaway for news years Eve and it was probably the worst meal ever. They had put salt into the roaches instead of sugar which mean everything was inedible Took the dishes back and all they can say is the chef made a mistake. Have us replacements that when we got back we’re just as bad. By this time we have up and settled for a few drinks and nibbles. Never going there again

2 issues with sauces in last 2 orders. Firstly we received a curry sauce instead of sweet sour sauce for our chicken balls. Didn’t mention anything as mistakes happen. Unfortunately just over a week later we ordered a curry sauce and it was left out of our takeaway due to them being so busy. This was what I was told when I rung up. I was given absolutely no option for one to be delivered to me although living less than a 2 minute drive from the takeaway. a refund was the only option I was given. 10 minutes later was called back and told I could have one sent out but would be another 1 hour and 20 minutes after our food had actually arrived. Was then told they needed my card details for the refund which took an age whilst my food was going cold that I was in the middle of. Lady didn’t know what to say when I said be I’d going elsewhere from now on. Alternative takeaway now needed.

I have eaten here before in the evening with a friend who lives in Rayleigh. We were looking for somewhere for lunch and we were surprised that it was open for lunch so we decided to give it a go. It is only open for a few hours at lunchtime and there is a set menu. There is a choice of soups, one starter, a main with rice and banana fritter (or ice cream, I think) for £9.90. The starter is just a small portion and the main has plenty of rice but there was only 4 king prawns although the kung po sauce I had was delicious. The meal was enjoyable and just the right amount for a lunchtime. Service was good. The restaurant was not particularly busy.

Came here with a friend for lunch, booked the table for 1.00 PM and was being rushed out by 2.00 PM. The restaurant was empty, the food was quick but I assume this was to make us leave even sooner. Cleared our table before we were finished eating and asked if we wanted to take our food home with us. Asked if we wanted our desserts that we had ordered and payed for. Constant lingering around the table, and not very personable. Food was really salty, and quite bland in flavour. The shop bought ice cream was probably the best thing on the menu. If you’d like a nice catch up with a friend which lasts longer than hour, I wouldn’t recommend dining at Choi Yin.

We then followed up with duck in oragne sauce and sizzling king prawns with ginger and sping onions. Both were very tasty and you coudl tell had just been cooked. This along with two drinks each for under £50 great value.

Simply decorated and furnished, but most importantly the food was so nice. I'd started to think I'd misremembered how great Chinese food could be as recently my visits to other Chinese restaurants have been awful. Ordered from the a la carte menu and found the prices very expensive for the small sizes and quality of the dishes. Gristly ribs in a sauce that just tasted of vinegar, prawn toast and spring rolls that were tiny and taste like they were just bought from a budget supermarket, followed by a tiny portion of dry and chewy peeking duck. After this we then had the smallest sweet and sour chicken balls I’ve ever had with a prawn dish were they hadn’t bothered to devein the prawns, all served by unfriendly and curt staff.

We went as a large group on a Thursday evening, the place was fully booked. Everything was tasty hot and delicious. Vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection. They refer to having a buffet, however you order what you want and it is freshly cooked to order which is good, however for what I ate which was not a lot of food it would probably have been cheaper to eat from the regular menu. Which I will do next time. The place looks a bit old fashioned and run down from outside but is nice inside.

Our wives were having a girls’ night, so we settled on the Choi Yin for the evening. Unfortunately, for the restaurant, and all the clientele, a group of travellers descended on the place, had their food and drink, and decided they didn’t fancy paying for ANY of it, but that’s another story. We chose a set menu, with ribs, chicken satay, then a healthy portion of shredded duck and pancakes, followed by a fairly glutinous mix of beef, chicken and prawn dishes, with fried rice. We all had an ice cream dessert, and a few beers, for around £40 a head. Not outrageous, but totally forgettable. Felt sorry they’d been ripped off by the pikeys, but our experience left a lot to be desired. They REALLY pack the punters in as well. Staff were all very engaging to be fair. Won’t rush back though

This was our second visit to Choi Yin for a family celebration. On our first visit we enjoyed the Buffet, where you chose from the Al La Carte menu and can revisit dishes you enjoy, it was great way to sample the full range of the menu. Our Second visit was on 30th January 2017, Saturday Night . The restaurant was extremely busy catering for a full restaurant and a constant demand for Take Away food.Despite the efficient chaos, we received a friendly welcome and our drinks promptly and the when the food arrived it was really tasty, well cooked and nicely presented. The duck was excellent, served with pancakes, hoisin sauce, and veg. The soft spare ribs were to drool over . But the Toffee Banana and Ice Cream was to die for. After these two wonderful Choi Ying experiences, we would definitely eat there again .

However we ordered a takeaway at 6.45 on Saturday and were told there was a wait of an hour, which was fine However the food still hadn't come at 8.45! Despite calling the restaurant twice to establish where the order was, eventually we had to admit defeat and ordered a pizza. Such a shame as the food is good. The Choi Yin has had a very good reputation for many years and I have recently visited it on a couple of occasions. On the first visit just a few weeks ago I was with a group of adults arriving at 6pm and the whole evening was great with the service and food living up to the restaurants high standards which is why we visited it again yesterday. We arrived again at 6pm and instantly realised it was going to be an uncomfortable evening. A table of five had just sat down which included three very young children (girls), their 2 mothers and I assume their grandfather. We were given a look from the mothers which seemed to say 'Oh No!, we were hoping no one else was going to be in here so early' The children were so young they still had dummies and had to sit in high chairs, which isn't a problem but when they started their crying & screaming, playing drums with the metal spoons on the table, and the parents do nothing to calm them or stop them, then it becomes a problem for the other diners because it takes away the enjoyment of the evening. This constant noise made it very difficult for us to have our own conversations without having to repeat ourselves through the high pitched screaming. I do understand parents have every right to take their little darlings out to restaurants but they do not have the right to spoil the evening for all the other paying customers who would like to eat their food in a more serene environment. The staff were fully aware of how the other customers were being affected by this outrageous behaviour yet they didn't have the nerve to ask the parents to control their children or ask them to leave for the sake of their other paying customers nor did they apologise to us for the situation. Why do restaurants and coffee shops alike allow such situations spoil the visit of other paying customers? And why do parents think it's okay to take their unruly children to eateries where they then ruin the occasion for others? For those parents concerned, if your child cannot behave when around other paying customers then leave them at home with a baby sitter until they can sit at a table in a public place without disturbing others! As for the Choi Yin, get some balls....not the sweet and sour kind....and take action against such unruly behaviour in the future because I'm sure if a group of adults started spoiling the evening for your customers you would ask them to calm down or leave. We all want to be able to enjoy your lovely food but only if it's in a peaceful environment!

My husband and I were looking forward to visiting Choi Yin after reading the good reviews. We couldn't have been more disappointed. On arrival the restaurant was busy, staff were friendly and showed us to our table. Whilst our table was a little cramped it was fine as we had booked late, however the waitress offered to move us to another table once the restaurant started to empty out (un prompted), to give us more room which was a nice gesture. We ordered a mixed starter and a selection of main dishes. The starter arrived and we first sampled the chicken satay which was just emulsified and very tasteless. We then tried the king prawns which after eating one realised that they were not cooked properly so we cut into all of the rest and all were still in their raw grey colour. We complained to the waitress who looked horrified and apologised profusely. At this stage, we had lost our appetites so we cancelled our mains and left. Again lots of apologising from the waitresses and we were given our drinks free of charge. Real shame as spoilt our night. Won't be going back.

Take away tonight was great, good portions and scrumptious. If you like Chinese worth a try. Could not fault it really.

My family and I visited Choi Yin for a birthday party and it was incredible because the food was just amazing, staff are polite an the service was great. There is competition in the High St between Yings Oriental and Choi Yin an the Choi Yin is far better as I discovered after having an appalling meal at Yings the other day. The food here is delicious!!!We ordered Duck, Spring rolls, Lamb, Chicken balls, Seaweed, Beef Choi mein and chicken ginger and spring onion. The food again was lovely. If you happen to be in Rayleigh High St or you fancy a Chinese takeaway please visit!!!!!

I love this little restaurant, and we regularly go there for their fixed lunch menu which is great value for money, with plenty to eat and a good choice. The staff are really friendly, the advantage of not being part of a chain, and nothing is too much trouble for them. Service is quick and efficient, something I have found to be the same on the odd evening visit as well. Highly recommend a visit

Came here for the lunch time menu which was brilliantly priced at £8 for soup, starter, main meal and dessert. The restaurant decoration itself is nothing special being simple and plain however I really enjoyed the food and the service although not overly personal was speedy and efficient. I had the chicken and sweetcorn soup to start along with vegetable spring rolls both of which were the best I have tasted, soup was full of flavour and spring rolls were nice and not covered in oil like others I have tried. For main I had sweet and sour chicken with rice, it was a very good sized portion for a lunch time menu and it was very tasty! dessert was either ice cream or banana fritters both of which were simple and nice. overall, GREAT FOOD, SPEEDY SERVICE, GREAT LUNCH MENU PRICE. I will be recommending and returning.

We were in Rayleigh and chose this restaurant at random, a lucky choice. They had a fixed price all you can eat menu, which I chose from. The portions were on the small side but as you could have as many dishes as you like it did not matter. I chose from the a la carte menu. All the food was delicious and spiced well. The staff were pleasant and attentive will definitely eat there if I visit Rayleigh again.

First time for us and we enjoyed our meal immensely. We were served quickly and efficiently. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. We loved the vegetarian squab which is a starter of vegetables wrapped in a lettuce leaf, oooh so tasty! Definitely want to return and try different things but unfortunately we live too far away.

Havn't used choi yin for a long time, and was very disappointed, food arrived quickly enough. We had i/4 duck it came with only 4 loose wraps, instead of the usual 6 sealed wraps. The plumb sauce was nice but the sweet and sour 'sauce' was thinner than gravy, which spoilt everything for me, I use it to dip the wrapped prawns and the prawn on toast but it was just too thin it was horrible, neither did it work on the chicken balls it came with, they got wasted too. The prawns stuff was ok nothing special, but without the sauce I didn't enjoy them. The chicken fried rice was nice. I remembered this place as doing really lovely food, but not anymore, I wont be using them again.

we booked a table for a saturday night, just the two of us. when we arrived at 7.30pm there were a few tables vacant, but not for long, most people book a table otherwise there is not much hope of getting seated. we ordered starters cran and sweatcorn soup and spring rolls, not too keen on the tiny spring rolls but the main course for both of us were excellent, we finished with lemen sorbet and ice cream, we both had a drink one house wind and one pint of fosters and the bill came to £46, we go again for a treat.

We decided to visit this restaurant again as we had not been for just over a year, and in the week evenings, they have special promotion, of eat as much as you like for an amazing price of £16.95. Ther is so much to choose from, I had 2 starters, mushrooms stuffed with minced prawns and pepper chicken. As there were 4 of us, we ordered 2 main each and all tried a sample everything. We all felt that we had eaten too much, it was very good, and we shall return soon.

Superb food and service - always highly recommend. A booking is advised, though not always necessary, but this is a very popular restaurant so better than disappointment. Not cheap, but worth it. We always go for a shared meal for 2

So last Saturday 23november we ordered takeaway our usual from the 2 set sections on menu asked the price when told yet again price had gone up another £3 odd so okay everything has … but when it arrived they have cut the portions down I always have beef curry egg fried rice served in same box well it was very dry I’d say 65%35% curry was not happy, pancake roll had literally 1 prawn in it an nothing but bean shoots an they charged us for delivery we only live by airport so next day I rang Timbo house an spoke to the lady who was very rude to me said the meal is always like that I told her Noway I’ve been having it for years then I questioned her about Delivery charge she said we have always been charged again Noway …I said are you going to do anything about this she was rude obnoxious an said No you haven’t ordered for 2-3yrs we order about 6 times a year for the past 25yrs I’d say ,,,,,,,,for £26 for that meal that would be our last from them
