As far as 3 star hotels go, this place was brilliant - I initially booked the hotel thinking it was a 4 star hotel, given the building style and images of the rooms and hallways (high quality) only to realise it was a 3 star afterwards. The car park had to be paid for and wasn’t secure enough in my opinion - but aside from that, everything else was on point. Breakfast was cooked to a good standard. Staff were helpful and friendly. If you’re staying overnight, this place should do the job.

Lovely old building with lots of character. Check-in was quick, friendly, and was given an upgrade. The hotel is in the city centre so very close to everything. Our room was a suite. It's a bit dated but clean. Decor was a bit sparse and uninspiring. The bed was very soft (not what I'm used to), so it's not comfortable for me, but others might prefer a soft bed. Breakfast was good. There were not a lot of choices re cold options, but the cooked selection was good. The food was hot, good quality and a good selection.

Rubbish. It’s a barebones operation, and it shows. Rooms are very cheap for a reason. They’re sparsely decorated and barren. Wifi is terrible, which is annoying for travellers. Needs a lot of care and attention to bring it up to a better standard. The bones of a good, old-fashioned hotel are there, but it’s a long way off.

The hotel room was great, comfy beds, very beautiful room and bathroom. Parking adequate, breakfast alright. However, we paid the reservation fee of 50£, and never got it back. We've contacted customer service countless times over the past 4 months, and they seem very nice, but then nothing. If you book this hotel, prepare to be robbed!

Updating my review below. I'm afraid that customer service here has deteriorated somewhat. On my last two visits, the room has been extremely cold. I asked for a heater three times and was promised that one would be brought to my room. When I asked for the fourth time, the person on reception told me she "would be honest with me" then told me they didn't have one for me. On checkout, I reported that the heating was inadequate and received a shrug in response. I'm not sure, but I wonder if the hotel is under new management? They need to up their game either way. I rather liked this place, it has an air of fading grandeur about it which is charming. I usually stay in the Midland when I'm in Bradford, but I shall often stay here too. Must find out if they have smoking rooms. They might consider having fried eggs at the breakfast buffet, I'm not too keen on scrambled

Attended for our company Christmas Party. Hotel communal areas were well appointed and clean. I didn't stay so cannot comment on the rooms. The car park is adequate sized but poorly lit. The queue at the only bar was long! Only 2 bar staff was disappointing, given there was a function in progress. The dining room was well presented. The Christmas crackers were very disappointing. Cheap and no novelty gift! Dinner was well cooked and presented but a little bland and small portion. It would have been nice to turn the music down slightly during dinner, change the playlist to something a little more in tune with a dining experience rather than disco/dance music blaring.

Room was freezing throughout the night as window had been left wide open in middle of December assuming by the maid. Struggled to warm up as radiator was luke warm and windows are drafty and single glazed. Went on a Christmas night out here. The drinks are way overpriced, you are looking at £26 for a bottle of wine and small lemonade. And a cider and Gin with lemonade mixer was £17. Friends of ours stayed over and their room was freezing. When they complained they was told it didn't go on until 5pm however the heating didn't go on at all.

The downstairs one, despite no queue still took about 20 mins to get a drink! Food was ok, nothing special and wasn't worth the money we spent for the night out there. The singer was great though & she walked about through the tables during her set and engaged well with the audience.

My mother was given a voucher for afternoon tea as a 80th birthday gift . We went this afternoon. Was disappointed to say the least. The cutlery wasnt polished , my mum's spoon was sticky. We were brought a pot of hot water but had to ask for milk. The tea arrived , the sandwiches were poor to say the least, the scones werent freshly baked, more like defrosted along with the tiny cake selection. Our tea had gone cold and we asked if we could have a fresh pot of water and one fresh cup the new cup was stained on the outside. Can i just say at this point the girl serving was lovely and met our requests promptly, but didn't ask if we were ok or if we needed anything it was left up to us to ask. Would not return or recommend. I have left a message on their facebook page but wont hold my breath for an answer as I have messaged them before and still waiting for a reply.

We were a party of eight people and except for another couple, were the only ones in the 'restaurant' (which makes the lack of service even more of a mystery). Beverage was a choice of tea bags or instant coffee sachets and hot water was served in large jugs set on the table. Sandwiches and cakes were presented nicely, but oddly there were only five “sandwich bites” of varying fillings and about six small cakes of differing types, which two people had to share; which made choosing/sharing problematic. (There were two scone halves and two dessert cups the same.) Once the waitresses had put everything on the table they disappeared from sight and did not even return to check if everything was ok, replenish or serve the Prosecco, which made the ‘special occasion’ rather a flop. The price is far too expensive for what is provided, therefore the experience was disappointing and didn’t live up to our expectations. We would have been better off at a normal café, as the service we received and the quality of ‘food’ presented was nothing exceptional or out of the ordinary.

What can I say .... this place makes Fawley Towers look 5 stars! !! £32 per head for cramped room, tasteless food, inexperienced staff and rip off drink prices is despicable!I have been to cheaper dos in the area and had ten times better an experience. The hotel looks stunning from the outside. ... but that's where it ends.Shunted away downstairs where tables were crammed in and a tiny dance floor unable to accommodate the guests.Food was tasteless.... especially the soup. Salt and pepper was asked for.... 5 minutes later received.... but they were empty!!! How could the waiter not tell this??? Main courses for our table took forever. Mine came.... then they forgot the rest of the table for several minutes. I couldn't eat. .. not just for etiquette reasons but because there were no veggies. Even when everyone was served, on our table (18 of us), only 2 small dishes of veggies were served. I being centre of table had to wait til they reached us.... but of course they were empty .... and our team weren't being greedy. A bowl that size would have been shared in a decent restaurant by a max of 4 diners! So having waited several minutes for the rest of my table to be served, waited a few minutes more for veg.... to be passed an empty bowl. ... I then had the job of getting the attention of the inept waiters and proceed to wait several more minutes for veg. My meal was then very cold and my colleagues finished! Disgusting!Due the the very busy bar with just 1 serving on.... we went upstairs and ordered a bottle of wine. A little while later when our bar was quieter I asked for the same bottle of wine and got charged £5 more than upstairs!!! Absolute rip off!Only saving grace was the singer!!Hugely disappointed in what looked like a fab venue from outside. But service and care were the most appalling I've come across! I review many. Avoid at all costs.

And the desserts were delicious. The singer and DJ were brilliant, the dance floor wasn't empty for the entire evening, I spent more time dancing than socialising with workmates!! Oops! There was an incident at the end of the night and it was people in my party effected, but each one of them said they had a great night until then. Sadly, nobody can control the behaviour of scum so not the fault of the hotel at all.

We booked the red carpet event but was put downstairs in a room that was very cramped, the room was not even Christmasy, waiting staff were very rude & ignorant passing food over the top of people's heads not caring if anything dropped off. Now the food, stone cold bread rolls were brought out, ordered leek & potato soup all you could taste was pepper, main courses came out shame the vegetables came 10 minutes later while the main course had gone cold by then the chefs really need to try there food before they send it out and the price of the drinks is ridiculous with very unhelpful bar staff. Would not recommend this hotel for a works Xmas party we have been to many hotels in Bradford and have had wonderful food, and great party's shame on you Victoria for taking £32.00 off everybody and failing to deliver would give this hotel a wide berth.

Visited here for our Christmas meal the starter eventually came for our table as the first table served getting their main course the soup was disgusting was supposed too to be leek and potato, it came like a brown gravy with burnt onion on top and a film of grease covering it. Half of our table could not eat their starter, main course veg came out 10 minuets before meat so cold and small portions to feed 4 people, the pork shank was just fat so not eaten once again. The only decent course was the pudding.Would not go back and to say it cost our table nearly £300 was diabolical.

We had dined here on numerous occasions taking advantage of there early bird menu.Although the menu is not adventurous usually and previously when your meal arrives it comes with a WOW factor. But not on this time occasion and it was a special occasion also.I ordered the chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella and spinage wrapped in pancetta. When it eventually arrive it was a huge disappointment. The chicken was clap cold and the pancetta the chef had not even attempted to make an effort to cook the pancetta it was a shame the pancetta was cold and fatty, basically just wrapped the breast up. Pancetta was well sourced and would have been perfect to flame grill or roast the chicken breast. We waited and waited expecting staff to ask if our meal was ok they could not even be bothered, possibly they knew they gave us a horrible meal. It was a hugh disappointment, certainly will not go again even though I had received a small discount.

The hotel is undergoing some work and this only made a difference to which toilets we used (unfortunately, they were tired and dated - but strangely, had very modern sinks). The waiter couldn't be any more attentive - came back on a couple of occasions to see if we wanted more drinks. We were given a wooden box with a selection of teas. The food was lovely, with each server providing for two people. Six sandwiches on the server - which were way bigger than finger size. Nice thick bread with just the crust off. Beef - ham - tuna - cheese & tomato chutney. Four halves of scone with clotted cream and jam. Followed by a number of mouthsize cakes. I couldn't manage all of my food - too much for me. Well worth the £17 per couple that we paid.

Stayed one night because of Xmas party being hosted there which was the only good thing as well as the big corridors. Breakfast was ok.HOWEVER, that's where it ends. Lift didn't work and told as soon as we arrived that we had to move our car before 8am so basically had to leave by then so might as well not have stayed there in the first place! Could have told us beforehand????We booked a city superior double but were given something more like an "inferior" double with 2 single beds joined together which even had single bed duvets! Very tacky. Room had 2 large single seater couches that just took up space. Why not just provide a proper bed!Worst of all the room temperature was set at an excruciating 39 degrees because the radiator was at full blast and the thermostat didn't work. No way of opening the window and no one in reception would answer the phone at 11pm! Couldn't be bothered to go all the way down given the lifts didn't work. Got no sleep but couldn't even get distracted by the Wifi because it was terrible and so was the tv signal. Felt like I was in a torture chamber and actually glad we left before 8am. Visited as a pre-theatre meal on a rare night out with my husband. Took advantage of the early bird menu which seemed good value although choices were limited. The pate came with a rather sweet, cake like bread which we weren't keen on. The pork belly was disappointing as there was no crackling - the fat was browned but soft. My husband had fish but there was tons of creamy sauce which completely overpowered the fish and added nothing. The wine was quite pricey per glass. All in all for a meal that cost nearly £50 we were disappointed - next time would be inclined to go to the Wetherspoons opposite the theatre!!!

Looked for somewhere to eat not far from St Georges Hall for pre theatre meal with mother who would not want to walk far and this fitted bill. Early bird menu looked good, not extensive but once had found the "*" on the strangely small printed menu there was something for most. We had the sea bass and the belly pork for mains and chocolate fondant and profiteroles for sweet. Main course served with a dish of veg which were OK although the cauli could have been cooked rather than near raw. The belly pork with mustard mash was very good indeed and the sea bass went down well too. Both sweets came up to expectations. However the service can only be described as strange! The restaurant is not signed so we went through main reception and were directed to bar and through bar to restaurant where we were almost seated before we were moved to another table. Order taken without a problem and courses served promptly without a rush. The young waiter appeared to be living in fear of spilling anything and he became the cabaret, reminder of the Julie Walters sketch although drinks arrived safely! But paying was where the fun started, no bill arrived after coffee so we headed to the bar to see a member of staff apparently counting cash in till- strange at 7.15pm? She knew we were there but did not approach us, then the waiter appeared and she called him over but again not to serve us but to discuss the till. Finally she turned to us and quoted an amount which might have been the sweets only - we queried and with lots of flustering a price that sounded about right was suggested. By now time was critical so cash was proffered as the thought of electronic payment was a nightmare, we were unable to stay for change or a receipt as the curtain up was fast approaching but later calculated we had not paid for drinks!Basil Fawlty style service at the end was the overwhelming memory, shame when food was really rather good.

Just got back after a Christmas Party during their festive celebrations nights. The food was only at best average but the main thing I really didn't like was that as a main I ordered the sea bass fillet, it was served at least 10 minutes before my colleagues whom had the turkey then the vegetables were nearly rammed against the Christmas decorations- to be fair there was little room left on the table. The fish was not even served on a warm plate and by the time the rest had their meals it was stone cold- as we all know fish cools before many other foods. I ate it -don't get me wrong. Service between courses was around 1/2-3/4 hour which in anyone's book is not ideal. Don't get me wrong there were many people and tables there but its a hotel and should be able to cater for this- otherwise don't hold the events. The after meal entertainment consisted of a singer who was reasonable and started the night of nicely, this was followed by a DJ playing various styles of music etc.Overall it was not a very good meal I am afraid and for the money not really worth it.

In the past I've found that some hotel restaurants don't quite cut it (and sometimes even have inflated prices!) but neither is true of the Great Victoria! The european-style menu options were VERY good value and quality (we had the three course early bird). Starter choices were reasonable, but mains and desserts choices were excellent: mine was undoubtedly the best slow-cooked belly pork I've ever had! The accompanying vegetables were fresh and cooked just right. The desserts had lots of interest value - some large fresh raspberries garnishing a chocolate 'bomb' with an intense red-fruit sorbet; sticky toffee pudding accompanied by rich ice cream and shreds of intense sugared orange peel. The wine list is very reasonable with a good range of wines by the glass (to supplement the bottle!), and service was friendly and attentive.Seriously, if you're in Bradford and want an early evening meal -even as a non-resident- I doubt you'll find better.

The reception staff were polite, friendly and accommodating. We checked in to our room 214 which was tidy and more importantly clean. The wedding itself was superb. The staff were excellent and the food was delicious. The room was magical with great character and the decor lovely and traditional. The bar staff were friendly and very efficient. There were lots of guests so they were very busy but took care of everything. Not sure about the previous review regarding bridesmaids running around without shoes on shouting. I didn't see this and was a guest all day. The fire alarm did go off but was dealt with quickly. The morning breakfast was lovely! And again the staff working in the morning were friendly and helpful. Overall I would recommend this hotel for a wedding venue or even just for somewhere to stay if visiting Bradford.

It was our wedding anniversary and we decided to have a nice romantic meal together.I searched the internet for fine dining around Bradford and found the Great Victoria hotel (Vic and Berties restaurant) Never been before but the menu advertised looked good so decided to give it a try and subsequently booked a table for 8pm that evening. We arrived around 7-30pm, the reception area was full with people obviously enjoying themselves on an independent venue, I thought this could be a good evening. The receptionist pointed us in the direction of Vic an Berties restaurant i.e. Down the corridor on the right.I am a firm believer in first impressions count; the dinning room looked like a spare room fitted out with tables and chairs, populated by an elderly couple sat in the corner contemplating suicideI looked at my wife and I could sense the feeling of disappointment. It was far from a romantic atmosphere.Discretion being the better part of valour we did a U turn and left, I can't comment on the cuisinewe didn't get that far.

This is a lovely hotel but the breakfast was let down by the following:-Made tea in your small cup from water kept in a vacuum flask, so lukewarm.Hot food was kept in serving dishes & again was lukewarm. The bacon was taken from the oven put in the dishes & most of it was stuck together. We arrived this morning to breakfast at the very start 08:00 & the food was edible but not warm enough. There were 3 staff on stood around waiting for punters. All in all a lovely hotel but could improve on food delivery.

Arrived very late to find the room that had been booked was not available. No other rooms were available either in this hotel or any others in town. (Tour de France). So no hotel, despite the confirmation. Whether the error was down to the hotel or the booking agent (Capita), i dont know. The hotel claimed (to the booking agent) that they had sorted me out accommodation elsewhere - which they hadn't. The hotel left me without a room at midnight in Bradford. They have since offered me a free stay to make up for the error but i wouldnt run the risk of booking there again if they paid me. If you are booking here i would suggest you take a sleeping bag because you may have to sleep in your car.

I booked a room on the fourth floor via the internet for 2 adults and a child ( 12 yrs ), unfortunately, the room could only accommodate a child up to the age of 10 yrs, so if booking , just double check If your room will sleep your party !!Any way, that's just a small minor blip on our stay in a great hotel, on checking in...Excellent receptionist, room fantastic, great location, great nights sleep, free parking and nice breakfast.Ok, it's more money, but If your happy with kids running up and down your landing till late or paper thin walls, stick to other hotel chains...so treat yourself !

The hotel and the staff is wonderful. .. very friendly and ready to help :) I stayed there for two days with my boyfriend and I couldn't be happier with the choice of hotel that I made. At first we stayed on the second floor and the room was clean and spacious but when the following day we upgraded to the forth floor I was absolutely stunned! !! The room was amaaaazing and the bathroom with the monsoon shower and a tub just took my breath away. ... I would recommend this hotel to everyone who are planning to visit Bradford... ps. The chocolate fondue and the baley's cake are worth dying for..

Obviously a great deal of work has taken place to update and refurb this old building. Room was spacious, clean and bed comfortable. Good standard bathroom. Little details need attention. Kettle needed replacing, guest book shabby and the drawers needed cleaning out. The Hotel in general is well kept and in places impressive. The only real disappointment was the breakfast. When we got there - 1 hour before the end of service there was little left - no continental to speak of and dried up self service English. Such a shame. That said the staff were more than helpful and very welcoming. Great value for money and would recommend and stay again. Attention to detail - very important.

My husband and I recently spent 2 nights at this hotel and could not fault either the service or the hotel itself. I would definetly recommend staying in the triffitt room. Fantastic! We found the hotel to be very clean, tidy and well presented. The staff were excellent and were always on hand to answer any enquires which we had.Would most certainly recommend! Well done The Great Victoria Hotel keep it up!

Whilst researching for restaurant choices in Bradford for our wedding anniversary weekend, I found this hotels website and the 'Vic & Berties' restaurant which promised great things including a Michelin Star trained chef and a seven course testing menu. We popped in on the Friday early evening and the Hotel has definitely had a recent refurb. The Al Le Carte and Tasting Menus are proudly displayed in a brass frame outside the hotel. The reception was not staffed and the whole hotel was very busy with some sort of event. We found the dining room and managed to attract the attention of a junior manager who explained they were very busy and couldn't fit us in that evening, but went on to say if we returned the following night we could enjoy the tasting menu. We sub sequentially returned the next afternoon to book a table and spoke to the receptionist who was quick to point out that they were too busy with weddings to fit us in. We explained the previous evenings tales and she went off and spoke to a manager. She returned to ask if we were guests (?) and what time we wanted o eat. After several further visits to speak with the manager we had a limited table d'hote menu thrust at us and were offered an 8:15 only table. The tasting menu had been withdrawn was the explanation offered. (the link to this has now been removed although it still appears on the hotel menu page....)With such a limited offer we politely declined and ate elsewhere (Mamma Mia's - Superb). This hotel is obviously very popular as an event venue and can afford to dismiss passing trade which is a shame because we will never return. A huge disappointment - avoid

While working in Bradford I had lunch at the Great Victoria Hotel on the recommendation of a friend. I was not disappointed. I met up with a couple of friends and we opted for a light lunch of sandwiches and burgers - all the food was freshly prepared and very tasty. The service was good - friendly and efficient and for a midweek lunchtime it was reasonably busyI would certainly go back.

We went for a Sunday dinner, when ordering asked if they has full availability as it was after 6pm , reply was yes. We ordered, mine a Veggie roast..waited about 25 minutes for the food and mine didn't arrive, then when a meal was presented it wasn't what I ordered. I was told there was none left so this was sent instead, it was macaroni cheese!.. I refused it and then a guy who may have been a manager came over, no apology just said they miscounted in the kitchen so I could have something else. My family all has their meals so when he said just have the veg option I said yes for speed. After being offered a meat roast !..It seemed they thought that was OK. Very rude and weird you would do that, didn't feel like a customer just a £ sign ...really disappointed

The staff are friendly and helpful. Food and drinks are good. The best bit is the relaxed atmosphere. Linger without feeling uncomfortable.

We arrived a few minutes before 3pm, an hour before the advertised closing time (4pm), to be told they close at 3pm and were doing takeout only. Ordered a kids hot chocolate and a scone for £6. After they'd taken our money, we were told we couldn't use the toilet because they had mopped the floor. We were told the toilet under the stairs outside was available, but this is dirty and full of cobwebs. Open to take your money, but not provide a service. Always been a great little cafe but very disappointed today.
