Chinese food has been so good lately!!

Chinese was excellent but also ordered a Cod and Chips, the Chips were nasty, looked like they were old refried. Spent £60 on order and they can’t even serve freshly cooked chips, I have alway used this takeaway but will try somewhere else next time

Chips are awful will not go there again soggy and full of grease

Good Chinese food. Cooked to order, nice and fresh. The fish and chips is also good, had a great piece of cod, was very big and well priced. Warning, only takes cash, so make sure you have cash. Although there are cash machines in the high Street.

I've been getting Fish'n'chips here since I was a kid, and now I bring my son. Friendly and polite staff who serve some tasty, well portioned, affordable food. Brilliant for an easy takeaway dinner at home.

Food from here is fantastic. The crispy chilli beef is always very crispy which isn't the case with the majority of takeaways I've had elsewhere. I've only had 1 meal which wasn't as fresh/good, but the other 15+ times have been great. Service has always been fast.

We had Chinese takeaway from here a couple of weeks ago and then fish n chips yesterday. Both excellent but definitely the best fish n chips in the area - chips were good and the haddock had great flavour with no wet or flaky batter. Curry sauce is thick and smooth which went just as good with the complimentary prawn crackers!

What an amazing Chinese again tonight absolutely delicious, chicken satay scewers best ever , king prawn chow mien , king prawn curry taste extremely fresh prawns,, pot hoisin ,bbq chicken ,yum yum yum!!!! 2 hours for delivery and expensive for what it is

Had chicken sweet and sour chicken curry special fried rice and chips all was still hot when got home tasted great and plenty of it. Would definitely recommend.

Poor food quality and missing items from order

Place is a joke . Place an order and food is missing. This is now the second time. Unhelpful and certainly don’t care about retaining customers.

I received a menu through the door very recently so thought why not give it a try. So I did. I ordered last night, in ordering my order was £5.30 more than what was on my menu. So I questioned and was told well it's the price that's on the menu there end and possibly an old menu I received. Out of principle I will never use anymore. My bill ended up £61.40. I was also told that they will put another menu in my order but never received which makes me think that my menu was up to date but they was just making extra on top. menu was March 2023 that I have got. Food ok but won't miss especially with lots of other Chinese restaurants to choose from.

More than double amount of chips that you would get across the road! Cash only unless you walk down the side of the building and pay in their Chinese takeaway section.

We ordered food at 4.30 for delivery at 7pm. I called at 7.10 pm to check on delivery… lots of confusion which resulted in the fact that our good was not out for delivery and not even cooked…. Shocking service!!!!

Food received tonight was absolutely awful. The prawns tasted liked they had been fried and fried over the batter was soggy. The chips was like crunchy cardboard. Prawn crackers stale. Wouldn't waste your Money ordering from here.

So we had ordered a Chinese. Very disappointed with the food. I cannot believe that this is a 4 star. The quality of food was more than unsatisfactory. We had ordered beef in black bean sauce and the “beef” was grey, slimy and tasted like a vegan alternative. Also we had ordered a pancake roll and it tasted like lemon all around with hardly any meat. The duck rolls had next to no duck in there as well. I have come to the conclusion with other comments they cut corners to try save money and don’t clean their pots and pans properly.

Under new management and the chips are actually vile. I think eating cardboard would taste better. Used to be decent before it changed hands

Having had great fish and chips from here in the past, just before covid, I thought I treat myself tonight. The staff were friendly but the fish portion has to be the worst, I wish I'd checked before I headed off home. The batter was dark brown, greasy and the fish within was about 3 inches long and 1/2 inch thick. I've noticed that fish in general from fish and chip shops is most often a disapointment these days. Perhaps it reflects it has become a commodity that's no longer sustainable. So with regret I'm not going to bother buying it again from anywhere.

Used to be a great place to order evening meals every so often. Now they're under new management with new drivers with no personal knowledge of the area. The food is disgusting, bland and I would not suggest to anyone in my wildest dreams to use this business.

Awful disappointing food. Curry had a sweet taste yuk, chicken balls where rock hard, rice was horried. Went straight in the bin. Il rather pay alot more for my food than eat that. Yuk yuk yuk. Can't post 0 star

I cannot understand the negative reviews. I have always used another Chinese in the past (not in Dunmow) and even when we used to think their food was good it was nothing compared to what we had last night from here. Absolutely massive portions of fantastic food. I honestly cannot remember having such a good Chinese meal

Absolutely awful meal from the great dunmow Chinese tonight - I don’t know who was in charge of the cooking tonight but dear god, deep fried pancake rolls, the chicken and sweetcorn soup was the consistency of water, no sauce on the chow mein and the majority of a salt mill in the barbecue sauce, which tasted completely wrong too and nothing like it used to. I would say the only edible thing here tonight was the prawn crackers!!!!! - I’ve had a takeaway from here loads of times over the last ten years and this is by far the worst it’s ever been, such a shame too, will be a very long time till I order another one

Best Chinese in the area by far!

Portion sizes are small, don’t take card and there is burnt chips.

Wow!! Absolutely delicious meal, our first meal here tonight portions are extremely generous, The chicken satay is the best we have ever had in any Chinese over the years actually made with real peanut sauce its absolute must have mouth watering. The king prawn chow mien was fresh with large king prawns very tasty would recommend Compliments to the chef !! thank you for our delicious meal 😋 If there was one thing could of done with the curry being little bit more hot bit bland but still delicious. Great delivery service very polite staff And no faults in the order what so ever ;;0))).

What an amazing take out! Every dish was sensational and very reasonably priced. Happy to say this was the best Chinese takeout we've ever had! It was so good, I had to write a review! Oh and it was delivered exactly on time.... 5☆

Tried this takeaway for the first time last week, great portions, really good food and very friendly service.

Ordered a takeaway new years eve at 5pm food turned up 9.30 pm sent it away complete waste if time ,never again ,will order from happy garden today news years day .

We have been having our fish & chips at Great Dunmow Chinese Takeaway for years, do not let the appearance of the establishment put you off. Its the best local fish & chips you will get. Fish always fresh and loads of chips

Very disappointed with our meal, very bland and lacking in everything.. polite and friendly staff. They are also a chip shop, maybe the fish and chips are better?

Food is always tasty and the portion sizes are enormous. Even when they are busy, the food is always ready quickly and piping hot.

Please open a franchise in Stortford!!

The best Chinese food in the town:)

I have never had a chow mein which uses spaghetti instead of noodles and it is an experience that I do not want to repeat. I could not recommend this establishment for their Chinese as it is the worst I have ever tasted.

The food was not good tasteless and boring will not go back.

Really friendly people. My chicken was pink and it is overpriced. Also couldn’t see where the food hygiene sticker was....

Small little take away tucked behind their fish and chip shop, they are small in size but big in food quality and products. Food is always nicely cooked, nothing to much trouble. Good prices.

Ordered a Chinese tonight, I had heard that there were a couple of awful Chinese restaurants in dunmow and this was ‘best of a bad bunch’. So I called up and ordered and was pleased to hear that they accept card payment. Food was super quick and was ready in 15 mins. So far so good. When I went to pick up the food, my eyes darted around to make sure I could see the hygiene standards clearly displayed. All I could see was the individual staff listed as level 2 for food handling. I then peered into the kitchen area. It didn’t look awful but didn’t look great either. When we got the food back and dished up I took one mouthful of chow mein and almost spat it out. It tasted like it had been cooked in a pan that had been so burnt that ash had formed the bottom part of it. I then tried the prawn in batter. Again one bite was enough, I had to spit it out, I immediately feared that I was about to spen a lot of time in the bathroom, and promptly threw the entire contents of my plate in the bin. I will not be having a Chinese either here or in Dunmow. There is an excellent curry house and a decent Thai restaurant. I still have the taste in my mouth after a couple of hours in, it’s disgusting. Also just to note, I have NEVER felt it necessary to write a review about food before, and I normally eat anything! And I hate people moaning in restaurants, so just to put a bit of context about how awful this food really was.

Been going here for as long as I can remember, I must have had over a hundred meals from this takeaway and I can't recall a bad experience with them, great food with great people working there, I would give 6 stars if I could, as this review is long overdue.

Saw the menu in the hotel we stayed, so we decided to give it a go. Order Sweet & Sour Fish, Prawn Balls, Egg Fried Rice and Singapore Vermicelli. Overall the food taste okay but extremely oily until when my partner told me there is a "long black hair inside the Singapore Vermicelli" (you can guessed who is that belong to as i saw 3 women behind the counter) and that instantly put me off so we throw everything in the bin. I would say the hygiene in the shop not up to the standard, they use bare hand to handle cash then pick the pie up with the same hand too. You can smell the oil from across the road too. Look at your food before you eat!

Excellent Fish and Chips; no bones and more chips than you can shake a stick at.

Good fish and chips but Chinese food very average, also the front of the fish and chip shop looks SO run down....... surely they could modernise it... it looks so dirty and in desperate need of a lick of paint and doing up. At the moment is looks a real state from the front as you drive or walk by.

I have to wait 30 minutes for my fish as was made to order ,you think it will be nice. But unfortunately fish was dry :(

Was told that the food would be done in 20 minutes, was given in 15. Nice service. NB: they don't take cards in the fish and chip part, you have to walk down the side to the chinese part to pay by card.

Pissed out my arse after a meal there

Nice people. great service but i am currently suffering with food poisoning as a result of bad black pepper chicken. this is a disgrace and i will be contacting the Environmental health to have the place checked out. Not happy

Gone down hill I have used this Takeaway for over two years and the food has really gone down hill the last two times we have used it. The chicken Noodles in particular were soggy and slippery. The chicken balls were well over cooked as was the Deep fried chilli beef was to sugary and had No taste of chilli . Will not go back again.

Fantastic chow mein and chicken with cashew nuts and yellow bean sauce but.... the duck had a bone in it, the chicken balls contained gristly thigh meat which was not cooked properly and the chips were fried half potatoes. Overall disappointing when you consider that 38 GBP was spent!
