Costa Coffee in Uttlesford

Service was pretty shocking. I very rarely rate things this low but it’s rightfully deserved. Looking at other reviews I don’t think I’m on my own here. My latte was given to me and the ingredients poured what seemed like over the glass rather than in it. No small plate, no spoon, no napkin. I don’t blame the staff - I blame the leadership. It feels like they’ve been given broad strokes on what to do and they are just winging it.

Apart from the fact that customers have to remove dishes and clean the tables themselves, it's a nice place.

Today I bought a mocha and expresso coffee.The mocca was awful,it did not have this rich mocca taste but simply lukewarm milk with a spoon of chocolate.It was not hot at all. The coffee machine was dirty and the working surface next to the cashier desk was stained from spilled coffee.Maybe it was accidental but not happy with the experience. I like the other Costa next to Aldi more than that one.

dirty, messy shop, cleanliness and health & safety clearly an issue. staff disinterested, chat away and ignore customers. not great coffee/food quality, there are so many better establishments within yards of this shop.

Ordered coconut hot chocolate. The lady making the drink pulled a big jug from underneath the cups and started to pour. Awful, I did ask another lady who said the drinks should be made fresh. She then proceeded to make me the right drink!!

Messy store, one of the staff that regularly makes the coffee’s is really sloppy and messy, and hygiene is below standards. Their work efficiency is less than satisfactory. They also overfill the coffee cups so you end up spilling your takeaway cup. The sweetener stand is always unhygienic. The lid in the image attached shows how overfilled it is.

Initially, the service was good when the guy took my order and prepared my cappuccino. When I had forgotten to ask for a stirrer, I came back and the guy ignored me completely and didn't even look in my direction when I was right in his direction. I had to hold back and felt annoyed. The other guy couldn't have been bothered to help me. I then repeatedly again asked nicely, he eventually helped me but it shouldn't have been that hard and spoke to me coldly and was not very warm. This was such a let down!

Nice coffee shop in the town centre of Saffron Walden. It was late so there wasn't much choice for cakes but I had the best one of lemon and marmalade. The capuchino coffee with soya milk is free of charge as alternative milk which I appreciate. There was plenty of space and some tables needed to clean a bit but the staff was busy topping up the shelves. Friendly place with nice views.

New revamp in store.. looks like an effort to put more chairs in rather than any improvement for customers 🙄

The food is the standard coffee shop food, so good but not wonderful, but the service was really good and the atmosphere is better than many coffee shops

Saffron Walden is a beautiful place and deserves better than this. The Costa Coffee in the town square was dirty, with tired and worn-out furniture, rude staff - just unpleasant. Luckily Saffron Walden has a wealth of independent Coffee shops and cafes which deserve your custom and are a credit to this beautiful historic town- DO VISIT but give Costa Coffee a miss.

Just wanted to say how amazing your staff are. I came in with a child with special needs a few times. They couldn't be anymore helpful opened doors for me and on the way out set ramp up,so I could exit easier. Brought all the stuff I ordered to the table and were very pleasant.. Thank you for your kindness

This Costa shop is perfect for this town. Not a single problem. All COVID measures follows at all times. The senior staff pay attention to your likes and explain to newer team members how you like your coffee. That's massive plus!

We like the cheese and mushroom toasties...and the cheery staff. No teapots though as all in use..this happens in other branches at busy times. Suggest the powers that be sort this as the huge cups we were given instead are heavy and hard to hold.

Sign on the door to say shutting early due to staff shortage. Service with a bark rather than a smile. Toilets needed servicing.

Costa is amazing in general, but those machines in the super markets make much worse coffee than those served in the coffee shop itself

Set in the town square that can be seen from the large picture windows, this rather a nice place to sit. Coffee and food was up to the normal Costa standard, that is good but lacks the indivuality of independent coffee shops. I'd happily return.

Love a early morning coffee, hot chocolate, staff are friendly too.

As below, food and drink great but only one guy on the machine. Hot sandwiches were ready 15 mins before drinks.

Understaffed! Typically more busy than usual this Sunday morning yet only 1 guy serving. 2 people in front of me in the queue walked out and feeling a bit antsy myself nearly walked out to. Spent good 10 minutes waiting in queue. Qudos to the guy working hard all by himself though. Food and drink were prepared well and plenty of seats. Just need to be more mindful of busy understaffed periods

Just walked out of this place. I know it's a Saturday and yes it's busy but the place was disgusting. There were vacant tables but they were piled high with crockery as was the sugar and milk area. Walked into another chain just down the road and all the tables were clean!

Very disappointed that you couldn't have toastie during lunchtime as the machine wasn't working. I understand that this wasn't their fault but Maybe they should have put up a sign saying that before we joined the que. Walked out and didn't even bother to get a drink.

Awful coffee the worst Costa coffee ever!

Freezing cold shop. 2 paper cups used for each coffee sold seemingly on purpose to increase waste. Ordered an americano and got 4 shots of espresso in it! Wow...a little much I think. It's very pretty but not a place you particularly look forwards to going back to.

Costa recently moved into new premises which are in the heart of town in Market Square. I visited for the first time on Tuesday and was most impressed. The premises is spacious and airy and right next to the market.

Brand new store very well presented and friendly staff. Good seating area with lots of drinks and snacks on offer. Great location as well very convenient.

Nice refurb, good use of the space. Music was a bit too loud though and through what sounded like knackered old speakers so difficult to listen or engage properly in conversation. Will definitely be visiting again though. Liked the previous Costa, the cortado is a personal favourite, but it was shabby. This is a definite upgrade. Would be a decent place to work on a laptop too. Just bring headphones to drown out the muffled dross.
