The restaurant is extremely cold—everyone inside is wearing jackets while eating. We decided to try this place because of the picture on their sticker. A layered bun is quite rare, and we were really excited to have it. Unfortunately, what we got was a regular bun, not layered, and the flavor was quite weak. The bun was so dry that we ended up dipping it in the dumpling sauce just to make it more enjoyable. When we asked the staff why the bread was different from the one advertised, they explained that some ingredients couldn’t be shipped here, making it impossible to create the layered bun. They even said that if we came back in a few years, more ingredients might be available, and they could make it then. Honestly, that just sounds like a bad excuse.

Ordered Stewed Beef with Sweet Potato Noodles (which I think the name is). You have to order by QR code on the table which is convenient. You can choose the spice level and I chose Level 4 out of 5. It shocked me at first to see the clear soup with chili paste on it but after mixing it well, it was okay. The soup is not only spicy but also a bit sour which I like. You can add more veggies toppings which I did not so there were only bean sprouts, coriander and spring onions. The portion was massive but I wish the dish originally included more veggies like bokchoy. Two noodle dishes and one fried squid cost around £30 for two people.

I had the red braised beef in Chongqing noodles (£11) with spice level 1, and the broth was mouthwateringly sour with a hint of spice. However, the red braised beef with boiled rice (£10) that my friend ordered was below average. The beef was dry, and the rice portion was disproportionately large.

Compartimos el Spare Rib Chongqing Xiaomian, deliciosos fideos en un caldo caliente y sabroso; Mapo Tofu con un lado de arroz hervido, y moreish, derretir - en - la boca de cerdo estofado. Teníamos unas albóndigas fritas que no eran nada especial, pero todo lo demás estaba fuera de este mundo. Optamos por 3 / 5 en su escala picante, pero podríamos haber ido más alto - una buena llamada del servidor, ya que podríamos haber sido spluttering y miserable, pero en su lugar el nivel de especias era perfecto. ¡Lo hicimos antes de poder tomar fotos! Entre los tres, los tres principales eran demasiado para conquistar – un testimonio del tamaño de las porciones – pero las sobras se llevaron a casa y se devoraron al día siguiente. Dividido uniformemente, era solo £ 13 cada uno, que creo que es un trato. El servicio era en general genial, sin quejas. El lugar no es muy elegante, pero ¿a quién le importa cuando la comida es espléndida?

Pedimos dos platos - sopa de fideos de arroz vegetal y pollo frito con chile y granos de pimienta sezcuan. Mi plato de fideos era bastante insípido - el caldo era insípido y había verduras mínimas en el plato. Los fideos de arroz se cocinaron demasiado con textura de fideos en paquetes precocinados. (He tenido mejores fideos de olla). Mi plato era bueno sin embargo en comparación con el plato de pollo de mi compañero que se vendía como pechuga de pollo, pero en realidad consistía en huesos de pollo rebozados y fritos : ( Para añadir a esto, el servicio que recibimos fue terrible - cuando traté de llamar la atención de un camarero fui ignorado durante siglos. Finalmente, intenté subir al mostrador para pedir otro plato, pero había un mber si el personal servía una gran cola de clientes pagando, y no había otro personal disponible para hablar. Cuando pagamos le pregunté al camarero qué tipo de pollo habían utilizado en el plato y le pedí que revisara la descripción del menú -el camarero dijo que necesitaba preguntar a su jefe-, luego le preguntó a un señor mayor en cantonés -que aparentemente juró que era pechuga de pollo-. Cuando dije que eran huesos, nos despidieron y nos reímos. Pagamos la cuenta, pero nunca volveremos a este restaurante. Tan decepcionante como hemos tenido buenos platos aquí antes, pero tengo la sensación de que ahora están desnudando los platos para ahorrar costes hasta el punto de estafar a los clientes sirviendo trozos de canal sobrantes que solo son buenos para el contenedor. : (

Delicious, authentic spicy noodles. Great sour and spicy soup which flavours the noodles and toppings amazingly.

The noodle soup I had tasted of nothing, honestly. It was just like noodles and ingredients in a bowl of boiling water. All it did was make me cough with zero flavour. I’d not recommend it. There are much better Chinese restaurants in the city than this. The toilets and downstairs area of the restaurant is very bizarre, filthy, dark storage type room. Food proportions are massive! Great to get multiple dishes to share with a big group. The dishes we ordered were so flavourful and tasted really authentic.

Las porciones eran enormes, y el servicio era genuino. ¡No puedo esperar a visitar esta sorprendente joya de nuevo la próxima vez que volvamos al Reino Unido!

Tuvimos el pescado vegetal encurtido en sopa y judías verdes cuatro estaciones. Tan bueno, sabroso y los sabores eran deliciosos. Excelente tamaño de porción y presentación. El servicio fue genuino, honesto y rápido. Sin duda volvería a visitar cuando en Bristol y recomendaría a otros.

The food is consistently amazing, some dishes can taste a bit too oily for my liking (soupy noodles for example when using spicy level 5), but beyond that its fantastic!

Found this place while walking around hungry. Glad I stopped in. I had the crispy duck with fried noodles and dumplings. Both were very delicious. I couldn't finish my food so the portion size was great. Nice place to stop in off the beaten path.

Went there bc of the good reviews. But it was terrible. The chicken was black cooked with blood. When I asked the staff kindly they refused to admit the poor quality of the produce. Disappointing.

The food was really tasty ! I had the Chongqing stew beef and it was really lovely. The waitstaff was really friendly and the atmosphere was really nice, and the food was provided very quickly. I did however put 1 star on service due to the lack of PEANUT WARNING. I am not myself allergic, however the lack of clear indication that peanuts would be present may be a SEVERE danger for some. I do however think the food was very good, and URGENTLY press the personnel to very clearly add this to the menu!

The food is very good and tasty, but for me, it is a little bit too spice😅. The whole place is quite small, but bright and clean. Only one thing is not matching for this restaurant, downstairs toilets, but I believe that soon this'll change.

The boiled beef was a bit spicy, while the pot-roasted pork was only sweet but not sour, and the taste was a bit lacking. The service is pretty good and the price is reasonable

One of our favourite Chinese restaurants in Bristol. The Chongqing beef noodle soup was delicious and the highlight of this restaurant. The spice and the umami flavour was supreme and the beef is cooked perfectly.

food is so bad, and expensive, but is cost us 40pounds i have to ate then all , after that i feel uncomfortable both my body and mood,I won't go back again.

Huge portion well priced for collection. Personally it could have done with a bit more sauce but I can't fault the taste or the speed of my order.restuarant seemed nice and quiet but it was 5pm. Staff friendly and helpful.

The worst beef noodle soup in town. Was more like noodle soaked in boiled water, adding soya sauce and vinegar, plus the rest of ingredients taste like watery flavourless substance going through your throat. On top of if , feels like grease is all over the place , not to mention customers toilet is shared with tenant leaving downstairs, just met him getting out from it after his shower wearing just boxers and holding towel. Not Recommended!

We chose to come here recently on a Saturday lunch time, after reading some reviews. There were disappointment and lacking of taste. no hygiene

My wife and I went there for lunch today and the food was Amazing. It was about 14.30 so not really busy. Service was great and we look forward to returning soon.

Authentic and delicious with generous portions, a real gem! I can highly recommend the crispy duck ho fun noodles and the XO squid.

The place is a gem with Cafe looks , it doesn’t give the best impression, however this is part of its charm. When we arrived there were about 4 customers so difficult to gauge how good it was although I had seen review on tic tok. The starters are pleasant but the bowls soup/fried various noodles/ rice and heat 1-5 are both huge and very tasty. The beef udon fried was generous and beautiful, the beef pieces fell apart they were so tender there was fat because of the cut but just right making the best out of the cut. As we ate the place packed out , it’s not huge cafe so be prepared , also a queue started forming for take away. With one waiter service was a little slow however it’s not a huge place and with too many more staff they would be getting in the way of each other and probably do at weekends. Bristol is very lucky to have a great many of these hole in the wall authentic Chinese . This is one I will return to many more times.

The noodles were delicious! Clearly freshly made with great texture. Very very generous portion, too. Only downside was that my ribs were slightly on the dry side. We got some dumplings, too, which also tasted fresh and homemade rather than store bought, and were very cheap for the serving size. Will definitely return if in Bristol again.

I found a piece of plastic paper in the takeout hot and sour rice noodles. It was disgusting. I don’t know what the hygiene of the kitchen is for. Update, I got another one! ! I don’t know what it is, it disgusts me

I love the food here. Spicy Chongqing chicken, and beef fried hofan noodles. It’s great if you are a fan of spicy food.

My husband and I went to this place several times. The seasoning of the food is alright but inconsistent. The food may taste different each time even if the same food was ordered. The chef clearly does not pay too much attention about the cooking time. There were two times when the food was clearly overcooked. Once was a bowl of noodles which turned to be really mushy and clearly cooked for too long. We couldn't eat any of it but left the bowl untouched. No waiter/waitress attended us. We tried to tell them when we were getting the bill but the waiter seemed to not care about it at all. Quite a while later after that unpleasant experience, we thought about trying the place again as we have had good experience with the place before. We ordered a beef dish and clearly the beef was overcooked again. The beef slices were so hard to chew and we could barely swallow. We left most of the beef untouched and no waiter attended us. The chicken dish we ordered was alright. The tap water they offered had quite some floaters and tasted a bit funny. It is still a good budget place to have some authentic Chinese food if one orders food that is less likely to be overcooked (like stewed food). Stay away from dishes which are more strict with cooking time. They don't charge any service fees for lunch time so I don't complain the services they provide.

This has become one of my favourite places in Bristol. We ordered the mapo tofu, green beans and beef chongqing noodles, all the dishes were amazing, spicy and flavourful. The staff is very kind and helpful as well. The atmosphere is very chill. I would definitely recommend this place.

High price for substandard food, won't return

To avoid lightning, I ordered fried rice and got a bowl of white rice.

The short-haired lady is very enthusiastic and the recommended Chengdu fried rice is also delicious.

Price on menu was “not updated” so I was charged more for my meal. Since the restaurant was refurbished it has gone down in quality, service and taste. I had to wait for more than 30 minutes for one bowl of noodle soup. I would rather spend my money somewhere else next time.

Extremely filthy place in any aspect. we wanted to run away shortly after we placed the order but unfortunately waiter showed up at our table with two hotpots 😭. beef noodle hot pot was inedible as was based on water and vinegar. small, fatty chunks of beef from left over meat cuts. be aware, if paying by card there is extra 10% fee …

Good, authentic, delicious food! Service was okay, helpful staff but can get quite curt (may be cultural). Bright, spacious, minimalist decor, great atmosphere. They charge 10% for payment card, go figure!

The chongqing chicken (laziji) was amazing! Big pieces! Big portions! Packed with flavour and moisture. I can’t get over it. It’s days later and I’m still thinking about it. This is gonna be the highlight of my bristol trip forever. The string beans (sijidou) had the perfect soft and crunchy texture that you want from them! Everyone else there was getting individual noodle bowls so that might be the go if you’re looking for a smaller portion. AHHHHHHH!!!! AHHHSIWBFHHCHCNDUEHEBDH

Fabulous Schezwanese restaurant in central Bristol. Amazing, authentic food, served promptly. Well worth a visit, excellent value, large portions. Convivial, efficient service. Highly recommended, can't wait to come back .

Food was excellent and great value but the waitress provided the necessary service but wasn't very enthusiastic and not very responsive. The menu had a lot of variety and different customization options for spice (for those who have poor spice tolerance!). The dishes I got were great too, although the beef was a bit tough and could have done with slightly longer cooking

From the minute we walked through the door the staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful. At one point I wondered if we were going to be served at all. The staff were offhand. I suspect that they weren't happy that I struggled to eat with chopsticks and asked for a spoon. I asked twice for a glass of wine that never arrived. The food was poor. As for the toilets they could only be described as disgusting and unhygienic. The sanitary bin was completely overflowing, goodness knows when it had last been emptied. There was a vile smell around the toilet area and walking up the stairs I could've heaved. They only take cash which is highly suspicious. This restaurant (if you can call it that) needs to be inspected by environmental health.

Yummy and authentic! We absolutely loved coming here. It’s absolutely no frills and all about the food. I read a review about the service and couldn’t agree less. It’s more about what you’re eating and we’re used to that in these types of establishments. If you want it hot though, go a spice level up! I normally have 3 and this was tame. Delicious nonetheless.

It is a great place to eat. Proper chinese food cooked - and mostly eaten - by Chinese people. It's not a place for a romantic meal. Just a great place for lunch. The udon noodles with duck was superb!

Went there two times, and I absolutely love this restaurant! The food is delicious, and though I'm a big eater, I feel completely full after just one bowl of noodles lol. Recommended! (Careful though, they only take cash)

Quality authentic Chinese food - exceptionally generous portions, whilst visiting my mum at the BRI hospital for the past month, i found this amazing little hidden takeway/fast food chinese place serving great food - I have been there almost every day. FYI their primarily focus is super quality generous food. Restaurant service isnt their fortay, help yourself to cutlary, jugs of water and menu's from the side - or order using an App. Open every day all day and evening. No presure to order drinks - you can even help yourself to free water in case its too spicy. AUTHENTIC DISADVANTAGE - ITS A BIT OF GAMBLE WHAT YOU ORDER, CHOOSING FROM PICTURES - STICK TO WHAT YOU KNOW. Highly recommend the noodle crispy duck soup - just wow!! A proper healthy very tasty meal for a tenner. This is definately one of my regulars now.

You ever been to a venue that had such bad service that you thought "Where the HELL am I? LOL". Seriously. Waiter doesn't want to speak to you. She just kind of puts the food on your table. Didn't think to give us menus. And for real she smells bad. Sorry not sorry. Also, cups are small styrofoam cups. By the way, CASH ONLY. Basically, the food sells itself. The restaurant is busy all day most of the time. I think they have lots of regulars. The food IS REALLY GOOD - hot and spicy, proper chinese. Just don't come here on a date lol.

I tried the beef in black bean sauce with rice, it was tasty and the beef was tender.

Quick and friendly service (food was quick to come too). Large portions - we ordered 3 mains between 3 and probably ate 1/2 of each. The duck and fried rice was all our faves! It was all on the slightly oily side… which with the carbs made us a bit tired for the start of a night out. It’s cash only… but as we were hungry so they let us order then go get cash as they cooked.

A little awkward this, but twice we've gotten upset stomachs from this place. Not full on "white telephone to god" grade, but once is unlucky, twice is more than a coincidence.

Got the duck spicy sweet potato noodles. The "duck" was dry and well... It was chicken... and when I asked the server if they made a mistake they were very confrontational about how it was definitely duck and how Chinese river duck was just that way. I can't call BS without forensics but it was the most chicken tasting duck I've ever eaten. I don't mind chicken but the soup was very vaguely Chinese tasting and not authentic at all. My friend's Stew beef fried rice was also mediocre. I did see a lot of Chinese students eating there but other than it being cheap and fast I don't quite know why this place is so busy.

The portion sizes of the noodle dishes are amazing ! so big and great value for money. my housemate n i couldn’t even finish our bowls ! we both had tempura prawn starters and i had crispy squid rings, YUM ! the flavour of the broths are so well balanced . my only criticism is the highest spice level isn’t that spicy, but that’s personal preference. 100% recommend !!!

It's Masala Town, so prepare what you need here. Tupperware is a must, even if you don't bring it home, get it. You can use it later.

Not great The food is authentic in a kind of low budget cafe Style (laid back) way but it’s best to know some Cantonese really if possible because there’s a bit of a language gap. We had some issues with our order and it wasn’t really recognised. Asked for rice and it was ignored then our server just slapped 10% service charge on which was very awkward

Got food poisoning from this place! Moody, disinterested waitresses. Ordered the spicy duck noodle soup, which came surprisingly fast (a positive at the time). Fairly tasty soup, nice duck (but could tell it was frozen pre-roasted duck) and average noodles. Then, from that evening had food poisoning symptoms through to two days later...

Literally 0 star. Services are really bad. Cashiers and waiters are really rude. Food is not bad. Literally a bad environment to have meal.

I packed two portions of noodles and one dish. First of all, the chicken was not very tasty and the chili pepper was not fragrant. Secondly, the noodles were chewy and unpalatable. I don’t know why there are so many good reviews on Xiaohongshu. Finally, my attitude was really bad. He interrupted me several times while ordering. He forgot to give me chopsticks and I turned back to ask for them. Not only was the male boss not apologetic at all, he even told me to wait. Not knowing how long I would have to wait, I had to find it myself. Lightning protection! Won't come again

Its decent. But for me. Some of the dishes is lacking in flavour. I dont mean spicy flavour. Still prefer nice spice for their beef stew with rice.
