Called in for breakfast with friends at the weekend. Menu was as expected, providing all of the usual options. We’re quite a discerning bunch and not afraid to offer polite comment if things aren’t as expected. The first indicator of a quality breakfast is the attitude of the waiting staff. This was excellent with attention to every detail which we threw into the mix. Second indicator is the quality of sausage and bacon. No supermarket bargain basement sausage here. Full of flavour and perfectly cooked. Bacon was the same. Cooked perfectly, no white stuff from cheap vacuum packed brands which are laden with water. Presentation: served on hot plates and nicely laid out. Not slapped on the plate without any care or pride. Tea was served in a pot and was full flavour. Overall an excellent breakfast although one of us had a cup of coffee which our friend suggested could have been a bit stronger. Then again he’s a bit of a fuss pot and the staff did listen when he made polite comment about his preferred strength of brew! Definitely will return and definitely recommend.

We are regulars at the café and called in today to find the cafe has been sold and is under new management. The menu has been completely changed and so has the lovely staff. There was no pleasant greeting from Andrew, Gary and Lucy. Just a surly waitress who didn't smile once. The menu was poor, no small portions and VERY expensive. No one asked if our meal was OK or if we wanted condiments. No smiling Gary and Lucy. Terrible atmosphere. Regular customers were telling us they weren't happy either and won't go back. We did tell the miserable waitress we won't be back. A shame as we've been customers for years.

We popped in one day when we passed and spotted a parking space. On entering the staff were very friendly and welcoming explaining that day's specials. They obviously have a lot of regulars as they were on first name terms with a lot of customers and that tells you a lot. There was a lot to choose from on the menu we eventually decided on mince and dumplings with mash and vegetable with the nicest turnip even my partner ate it and he doesn't usually like it and I had mushroom stroganoff with rice and chips. Both meals were lovely and hot and delicious. We will definitely return soon.

Thought I would try it out as it always looks full but was left dissapointed. The service was slow, there were no dairy-free milk options, and the atmosphere was rather depressing. Also cash only - when I asked about this I was informed it was to keep the prices down by avoiding card charges. While I understand this from a business point of view it does leave people in a frustrating situation as many of us rarely carry cash these days.

Had a Sunday lunch there. Decent portions with plenty of vegetables which are cooked nicely. Two sizes of meal to choose from, more meat on the dearer one but there’s sufficient for most people on the smaller one. The more expensive one (£6.50) is only 60p dearer than the other.None of us had dessert so can’t comment. Been there a few times now and the food is always good. Parking was on the street though there’s a car park nearby. Toilets are accessed around the back of the building for which you need a key and a trip outside. No alcohol is served.

Had lunch on 20/07/19 and it was excellent. The term home cooked is used quite often by cafes and restaurants, however this establishment I would say certainly meets the standard of home cooked. We both had the chicken dinner and everything about it was perfect and the portion size was plentiful. We had puddings and they were of the same standard. The inside has no frills inside, but is clean and the staff are very friendly. The price is very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. It is also pleasing that they consider gluten free customers and have a part of the menu dedicated to GF, the chicken dinner actually came with GF Yorkshire puddings, which is almost unknown if in other establishments.

Just to set the previous reviews straight We are in the area on business and have been for 12months.We have used this Cafe on a regular basis and I've never seen anyone refused a table quite the opposite. What I admiral is they cater for pensioners who are not as fortunate to cater for themselves and if they are regulars then why shouldn't they have tables reserved just shows how popular the place is.Anyway the food is superb and cheap their specials are changed daily, deserts are generous and fresh.Note to self book in advance like everyone else to avoid not getting a table.

This cafe serves amazing homemade food. No fancy food. Suits the older customer. Unfortunately this is highlighted in the clientele who frequent this cafe. The "regulars" are given preferential service. They book their usual tables from week to week. They meet there just about every day. So if you call in on chance it's not often you can get a table. They are all reserved. Often just one person sitting at a table for 4. But that person has reserved that table. The staff don't apologise. You're just told all the tables are reserved . It is a pity that management can't consider first come first served instead of making this cafe a meeting place for regulars. If you want to go at an obscure time then you might get a table. Otherwise I wouldn't bother. I would look for somewhere else where there aren't favourite customers. And it's pointless trying to book a table. The regular pensioners have them booked well in advance.

We came upon this when visiting Whitely Bay set away from the main high st, you could miss it. Looked at menu from outside and saw it was good price, on entering you could see it was a locals place. Warm greeting from staff and some customers. It was a what i call proper menu, good home cooked food. It was warm that day so we opted for the ham salad with boiled potatoes and 2 cups of tea, which arrived were in good sized mugs. Everyone knew everyone and were quite happy to chat with us, unlike places where we live. When the salad came Wow a feast you could not get any more on the plate. The boiled potatoes were perfection. Anything interesting thing to note was when my wife asked where the toilets were, she was handed a key and told go out the door turn left, first door you come to ,open and there was the toilet. An outside one in their back yard. I should add it was very clean, with baby changing facilities, a long cry from my Grandparents one. The bill for the meal and tea came to £12.60, very good value. If you are ever up in Whitely Bay, you must give this place a visit, you will not be dissapointed.

Ladies who lunch chose this cafe for their regular meeting. It made me smile when I walked in, cosy, oilskin table cloths and altogether gave me a feeling of last of the summer wine. Menu was plain English fare, but well presented and home made. Waitress was young and very friendly and the ladies behind the counter treat us like friends. Pot of tea was excellent not this wishy washy weak stuff, prawn Marie salad for me, generous portion of prawns with the coleslaw and rose marie sauce in separate ramikins, I liked this as everyone has different levels they like their prawns dressed in. Salad was iceberg, tomatoes, red onion, cucumber all very fresh and crisp, with a sliced boiled egg on the side, this was accompanied with a crispy bread bun and butter. One friend had fish and chips, both fish and chips fresh cooked products, no frozen fish and chips here, my other friend had home made broccoli and cheese quiche with her choice of salad or it came with chips. All of us throughly enjoyed our meals. They do have a special pensioners menu but as my meal tea and salad came to £6.60 I thought it was wonderful value for money. The reason for withholding a star were the toilet facilities, unfortunately this is collecting a key and walking out and around into the back lane and into the cafes yard. I mention this for those less mobile and the fact it was pouring the day we went. All it all though a lovely little cafe where every effort is made to ensure a warm welcome and good quality home cooked food.

The very nice gentleman seated at the table next to us ate a large lunch, promptly fell asleep at his table, then woke up and had a great conversation with us. The service was fine, but don't eat here if you're in a hurry and want a fast food experience. This place should be savored for its atmosphere and hominess. Take time to talk with the people around you. The prices are very reasonable for the amount and quality of the food. Good lasagna. Good bubble and squeak! No alcohol is sold but you are welcome to bring your own bottle of wine on Sundays if you like. Our Sunday dinners were served quickly and were simple but delicious. The portions were just right and well priced so we even had dessert. I had apple pie with ice cream, which was scrumptious. I have visited Darcies a number of times now with my Nanna who might I add swears by this place. They always treat her and her friend like royalty and always go the extra mile to make sure they are both happy! All of the food there is home cooked to perfection and tastes amazing. I’ve had the Yorkshire pudding wrap multiple times and it never disappoints potions are huge and good value for money. Lisa and the rest of the staff are lovely! There’s no doubt that she knows exactly what she is doing. I will happily be returning to Darcies and can’t wait to try the chicken nuggets my nanna raves about!

We asked for our fish to be well cooked as if it’s not we have found the batter near the fish to be uncooked, once again the batter was uncooked ( soggy) The chips were lukewarm not a great experience
