We love visiting The Grapes. The beer and cider is good, staff friendly and they play some great retro tunes as well. Our dog drags us in every time we walk past because they have dog biscuits in a jar. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is that the gents toilets have a bad smell about them that wafts up the steps.

Lovely pub, and great prices ( until they're increased on a Friday evening by £1 a pint for the whole weekend). Staff were very hit and miss. They all seemed to be students, which is fine, but most have less character than one of their biros.

We arrived on 30th July to stay in apartment close by. Our initial experience was very positive with a busy pub and attentive staff. However, our experience on the 4th August was less than positive 3 staff, 10 customers. A request to view the Olympics on 1screen was happily acknowledged by 1 of the bar staff. But, another staff member obviously needs to watch the football whilst working and changed a screen that nobody other than is were watching. We left!

Have had a lovely time here before, but coming this time was awful, attitude one staff member was abhorrent. I mean I don't mind a dismissive person as I can understand if you're having a bad day or just feeling that way, but to be plain rude is just weird, I can never comprehend it. I'd come here again as long as she isn't working lol

Visited on a packed evening during the Shanty Festival. It was very crowded and warm. Service nevertheless was efficient with good numbers of staff on, all of whom were well trained and polite under considerable pressure. Live music was on. Visited two days later for an evening drink. Staff were very polite, St Austell beer range, good selection of wines. Beer garden is a small cordoned off area on the Church St Car Park area. Didn't order any food. Nice view across harbour to Carrick Roads.

Taken over by new ownership a short while ago, now a Craft Union pub. Service remains excellent, all of the bar staff are friendly and a good laugh. Drinks are affordable, even ridiculously cheap for the area on weeknights, around £3.50 for a pint of ale. Bear in mind they use dynamic pricing, so you're paying about 50p more on busy nights. Other than that, I can't fault the place. Kareoke on Thursdays and a pub quiz on Mondays, it's a lovely pub to spend a couple of hours.

It has been re-done so well, the interior is one of the most pleasant out of most nightlife/pubs in Falmouth. Fresh and clean and welcoming to dogs. The staff are fabulous, so smiley and even joined in on tonight’s Karaoke!! The vibe is great as it’s locals and a mix of ages which is just great. Love the pool table and darts, the new seating is also great. Prices were: £5.15 for Rattler, £4.35 for Staropramen, and £5.50 for a double vodka (Smirnoff) and cranberry juice. Also worth a note they have feminine products in the female toilets, deodorant and body spray in the men’s and dog towels, treats and water- really accommodating. I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then

The Devonport is know for its amazing food (and beautiful backdrop), and goodness it did not disappoint. We were there for Mother’s Day, there was 6 of us. I had the mussels with gorgeous thick cut chips. My brother and mum had the Skate special, which was a huge portion of fish with caper butter and chips. It was outstanding! My step mum had the Haddock and chips and she said it was the best ‘fish and chips - fish’ she’s ever had! She is not easily pleased. My husband had the paella and he was so impressed, the fish was so fresh and juicy. Fish is their show stopper, so I’d always try and order some kind of fish/seafood. But overall, amazing food and fantastic hospitality. Social shout-out to the Manager who was very knowledgable of the wine and port that The Devonport had available. Will be coming back more and more - I feel very lucky to live locally. Thanks guys!
