Grantown East Restaurant in Highland

Have been here many times over the past few years. Tiny bowl of soup, which was very tasty, and a small warm roll, which was also scrummy, for £7.25! No background music. A suggestion would be steam railway soundtrack given the unique setting. Also very poor practice to be sweeping up when customers are eating. Unlike all previous, enjoyable visits. Unsure if we will be back…

I've been here for lunch a few times now and the whole experience is consistently excellent. Lovely staff, quirky premises and fantastic food. The pizzas are amazing and the pudding pizza I had was absolutely incredible. No criticisms at all.

loved the quirkiness of sitting in the railway carriage for our meal. Service was great and we had the special of the day, which was absolutely delicious, spiced lamb and beef on coriander flatbreads.

Stopped off today Sat20th August for some lunch the staff were courteous, friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, particularly the chef who, although was very busy at the time, was more than happy to make me delicious poached egg on toast though it wasn’t on their very extensive menu. The kilted gentleman who was overseeing proceedings really made everyone welcome, adding the finishing touch to a perfect experience. Will definitely be back sometime soon. Ron and Fiona,Dalwhinnie.

I had a soup and sandwich meal deal with a cake for lunch after a walk with secret Strathspey tours. It's a nice wee place, different to your usual restaurant with it being in a railway carriage. The staff were very polite and smartly dressed with tartan which I thought was a great touch.

We have been regulars at Grantown East since January this year and wish we had found this gem of a place sooner... We eat there regularly now and can honestly say that the quality of the food served is consistent, imaginative and above all YUM! We popped in for lunch yesterday and Colin and Sebastian prepared the most outstanding food for us. I had a burger with cheese, black pudding, haggis, bacon and onion on it (no salad at my request), it came served with perfectly seasoned fries and home made coleslaw. I've attached two photos so that you can it before i started to eat and then half way through...... writing this is making me hungry for another one! Pete had a Steam Train 12" Pizza and I also took a photo of that - I also had a little taste of that too - very very tasty. If you get a chance to have a Sunday Lunch just go for it. This is not your mass produced offering, it is all freshly prepared by very talented chefs and is a taste sensation. I know because I have had a few! It is not offered every Sunday as sometimes there is a busy event taking place at Grantown East, so if you are lucky and it is available - try it! I usually go thinking that I will have a Margerita Pizza with Pepperoni and onions but quite often I get side tracked by Colin's Special dish of the day. Just recently I had a short rib of beef that he made - it was so succulent and the meat just fell off the bone. Another memorable dish was his loaded fries (fabulous and very 'loaded)! I wouldn't say that I have a sweet tooth, but Pete does and on one occasion I tried his Calzone Nutella and Banana sweet - OMG I could really be persuaded to have this sweet, it is amazing. I think we are very lucky to live close enough to be able to visit Grantown East regularly. All of the staff are so welcoming and friendly and cannot do enough for you to make your visit memorable. So a HUGE thankyou to Frank and Sandra and Colin and Sebastian and all of the other staff who have made us so welcome on each visit. Visited yesterday with my family for their wood fired pizzas, and they were superb! I think they have to be the best pizzas I have tasted. What really made it as well was our lovely waitress, she was excellent! Plus all of the other staff were great too, really welcoming and great banter !!

This was recommended to us by a colleague when she heard we were coming up to this part of Scotland, so glad she did as we drove past last time, not realising what we were missing! The food was lovely, especially the Lemon Meringue Pie Pizza and the staff were friendly. We will definitely return if we are in the area again.

Dropped in for a cup of tea and ended up having an amazing Sunday lunch. Choice of two soups both absolutely excellent then a huge plate of roast turkey and all the trimmings. Not only was the food excellent quality and plentiful it was served piping hot on scorching hot plates a big plus in our books. The waitress Eilish was very friendly and professional as was the gentleman who met us and seated us. We will definitely be returning here for Sunday lunch.

The four of us dropped by for a late afternoon snack lunch. We were welcomed into the restaurant carriages and asked to observe the Covid regulations, masks and sanitised hands essential and then shown to a table. Friendly staff took our orders. The food was fresh very tasty and well presented .The scone and cream I had was a Scottish large portion and very enjoyable. The sandwiches and soup plus a bowl of chips I was told was delicious. We have had pizza here before and can really recommend them.

Visited as saw this place just off of the road to the whisky trail. Wonderful food with a smile. Fabulous and would definitely go back.

Worth a visit to sample the pizzas etc, gluten free available but may be limited so best to book in advance if required.

We visited with 4 children and 3 adults. They sat us at 2 tables but were so helpful with the children (crayons/colouring sheets/rushing the kids’ food out quickly/ joking with them). The pizzas were enormous and delicious - enough to take home for dinner too. Pudding Pizzas were enough for 4 people! With an incredible train-shaped climbing frame and miniature railway to ride on, it was the perfect day out with our 2-6yr olds.

We had an amazing meal in the lovely train carriage at Grantown East. The pizzas were super thin and absolutely delicious. The draw of dessert was just too much and we each opted for a pizza pudding. If we had one criticism it would be the desserts were too big!! Not normally something to complain about and even better that you can take home anything you can’t manage to eat in the restaurant. The service was the best we have experienced in such a long time. Friendly and chatty and certainly added to our experience. Well worth a visit and we will be back when we are in the area again. Visited here several times this year. A very warm welcome, friendly/efficient service …..and excellent food at a fair price. Chef was very willing/happy to adjust my lunch choice slightly in terms of less cheese for my pizza - doesn’t seem a big deal yet often...

Outstanding food and service! Delicious food, great service and wonderful setting. Specials were amazing and the freshly baked pizza's were the best ever tasted. The Nutella and banana calzone with the coconut ice-cream was Heaven on a plate. Good value for money.

Fabulous experience eating here. We stopped for breakfast and were served by a lovely gentleman in full kilt. The service was excellent and the coronavirus arrangements were some of the best I've seen on my travels. We'll definitely be back to this little gem.

Popped in for lunch and enjoyed it. Burgers went down well, as did the Steam Train pizza. Think next time, I’d swap the vegan cheese on the veggie pizza for the delicious looking mozzarella. What even is vegan cheese?!

This restaurant is 2 number 1950's ? old railway carriages, completely refurbished by local trades wherever possible, joined together, and it gives an excellent idea of what dining on trains was like many years ago The carriages are on rails beside the old platform where...
