Called in for quick lunch, despite bieng nearly empty service was dreadful, tables not clean, staff were too busy chatting about themselves to bother with customers ! Had a toastie which was very average and they forgot my coffee! Shame as its a very cool space which could be a great venue.

Well it would have been nice to be able to review the food here, as I called en route to the excellent Ann Redpath exhibition upstairs. I was soaked to the skin due to heavy rain and desperate for a coffee. However I stood for 5 minutes at the counter as the two staff studiously avoided any eye contact and did not even speak to me. A "be with you in a moment" would have been courteous. I was so puzzled I actually asked whether there was table rather than counter service, and was firmly told "no" with a couple of scowls. After a few more moments I simply left on the basis that my custom was not welcome. I will not be back.

Visited whilst on holiday. The YHA is tucked away but close to the Premier Inn and accessible both from the town walls and Bridge Street. We enjoyed a coffee and cake in a relaxed and roomy setting - the price for combined coffee and Orange and Poppyseed Cake was modest - under £4. We enjoyed our visit, and were hosted by a friendly and helpful member of staff.

Great cafe with plenty of seating both in and out ( in warmer weather!). Plenty of choice of hot, cold or alcoholic drinks. Plus cake, snacks and pizzas. The atmosphere is relaxing and friendly - just when you would expect for YHA, who run the cafe. I had the cake & hot drink offer. Hot chocolate is super hot ( great, normally it’s disappointing in other places and served lukewarm) and the chocolate cake moist and tasty. The staff are the main plus, friendly and welcoming.

We stumbled across this whilst walking the walls and needing a sit down. It was short staffed so they werent cooking any food just serving coffee and cakes. We had cappuccinos and husband had a cake which he enjoyed. The atmosphere is very relaxed and you could sit there as long as you wanted. Lots of groups of friends just chatting. We went back on our last day and they were still short staffed so had another coffee and cake. I sat there and read my book while husband went to bookshop. If we lived nearer this would definitely be our regular coffee shop

On a cold wet winter Saturday we popped in for a light lunch. An unusual historic building renovated a few years ago it was unusual to look at from the outside. The way it's wall leaned and still stood was amazing. Inside the bistro was warm and bright and the staff friendly. We ordered hot drinks and a pizza to share and took a seat. The pizza was freshly made but didn't take too long to arrive. We were certainly pleased with the look of it. Large and piled with the toppings we had chosen it was very tasty. We have had pizzas in many well known pizza restaurants but this showed what a pizza should be like. Base not too thick and the toppings so tasty and plentiful it was we both agreed the best pizza we have had. Keep up the good work and I am sure we will return for a second helping in the near future.

Tried to get breakfast on Sunday morning but the only thing being offered was a 'full' breakfast at £5.25, which is not unreasonable and the food is generally good. But if you just want an egg on toast, its rather inconvenient.Unfortunately the supermarkets (Morrisons and Asda) and Greggs are the best options for breakfast in Berwick and they don't open early on Sunday.Other breakfast options in the town are between £6 - £7 Ended up at Marshall's cafe out at Scremerston. They do a nice fresh cooked breakfast with options for around £3 - £5Give them a try!

As a local who visits this Bistro 1-2 times a week all year round I cannot believe that some bright spark who has obviously never been to Berwick has totally destroyed the individual appeal of the Granary. The lovely friendly staff were always happy to serve up fabulous, fresh food at a reasonable price. Well not anymore, gone are the fresh salads, interesting fillings, platters and regular favourited such as Northumbrian Rarebit and build-a-burger. Instead you can pay an exorbitant amount for frozen lasagne, the new menu is restricted, boring, very little choice for vegetarians ( unless you like cheddar as all the other cheese choices are off menu) the menu reads more like Brakes Bros. Berwick has plenty of eating places, this one size fits all approach will result in locals voting with their feet. The poor rating is based purely on the pathetic new menu and in no way reflects on the staff who have always made us very welcome and were very accommodating.

Visited yesterday lunchtime after a visit to the Burrell Collection exhibition in the same building. I ordered the fish finger sandwich option as recommended by a friend and was not disappointed (see photo). Not the sad breaded preformed oblongs as most of us know them, but fresh fish fillet cut into slices and served in two continental rolls with salad. I was with five friends who were all happy with their lunch choices too. The soup and other sandwiches looked delicious and the chips were plentiful and gorgeous, served in a bucket and no skimping on the portion. Service was quick and courteous and the surroundings tastefully modern and relaxing. You can even hire a chess set for £2 if it takes your fancy! It's clearly an establishment that a bit of thought has gone into (well done to owners and staff) and it hit the spot with me. We came in for lunch and were not disappointed. Lots of good wholesome food in a lovely clean and bright environment. Very chilled and reasonably priced. Good sized portions too. Also tv and internet access. Children are welcome here though there were none around at the time.

Had a couple of meals here when staying. The food was always good, hot and presented well. It was nice to see both familys and the elderly enjoying these facilitys. The prices are average and the staff pleasant. Nice place to meet up with friends over coffee.

My partner, myself and my 3 kids decided to have a light lunch at the granary after having a look upstairs at the 'Railway Man' exhibition they had on which was very interesting. My children had omelette and chips, my partner had fish, chips and peas which really looked the part on the wooden round block and tin pot the chips came nicely presented in. He said it was Delish!I decided to try the Roasted Veg & Houmous wrap with wedges and this was also delish I will b having again.I wasn't sure what to expect as all the staff looked very young but was surprised and service was good too. The young lass working that day even came to our table and had a little banter/giggle with my kids when they tried to speak to her which they really liked. We will be back again.

Called in here for breakfast and a great welcome from friendly staff put me in the right mood for the day before I started. I just asked for all they had and got the best cooked breakfast plus fruit juice and coffee I have had for many a year - and all this for under £5. Absolutely fantastic. Add thius to the really quirky surroundings and why go anywhere else - I certainly wouldn't

Not sure if it was different staff on upon this visit, but looked like standards had slipped a bit this time.Only seen the specials on the board, not a lot took our fancy but we choose something anyway, food was nice. Could of done with menus on the tables, after choosing our food we had a look around and noticed one menu on an empty table, one menu for the whole cafe! Bit disappointed as there was plenty of other things I would of had to eat.

Often come here for lunch, always find the staff very pleasant and helpful. The variety of food is great and excellent value for money! Even when busy, the place is well handled and more staff are called for to help with the rush. Highly recommended! :)

If I'm in town with the kids we will often go here for lunch. They love it especially in the summer when we can eat outside. Its relaxing and not to expensive, there is always something different on the menu.

Visited here with 4 friends and our 5 babies. Excellent value for money, great staff, lovely food and a relaxed atmosphere. Never felt rushed, plenty space and very clean. Cannot rate this highly enough!

Enjoyed lovely fat chips not cooked in lard! (Hard to find in Berwick.) & soya coffee without being made to pay an 'extra' charge ('The Vegan Tax') as so many chain coffee shops charge when you're not really getting 'extra', just 'instead of'. Well done The Granary! Friendly efficient service & they even went off to check what sauces were vegan. No fuss, no trouble. Would love them to restock hummous, then might have had the falafel too :) Keep up the good work & maybe even look to see if you can stock a cake choice that's also vegan? Nice, relaxed atmosphere, & clean loos! Will keep going back! :)

From the welcome to the great value breakfast, this was excellent. Stopped here on the way to Edinburgh instead of our usual McDonalds stop and was not disappointed. Will definitely be back.

I have happily been in the courtyard on previous occasions with friends with wine or coffee, the wine standard fare, the coffee average for the price, but it's been fine on warm days. Today I went for a late lunch, place nearly empty. I ordered at the counter and sat at the only table clear of dirty plates or other customers eating. OK I got change from my £5 note for a pannino and coffee. The wrong bread for the pannino but the bacon and Stilton filling was fine. Coffee poor. Tables slowly being cleared of the dirty dishes, very slowly, some still hadn't been cleared by the time I left. Pannino took over 10 minutes to arrive, even though there were no other orders outstanding, waiter who brought it didn't clear any of the other tables. I'm not sure of the business organisation: is it a charity which employs volunteers? is it a commercial organisation? In any case it needs some professional management.

As always the food was amazing and the portions very generous. A lovely warm welcome and Sarah went above and beyond when one of our party decided after our meals were brought out that she would like some bread and butter with her meal. Sarah sorted it out without any fuss.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

My partner & I came here on Sunday for a spot of lunch we both had Fish & Chips ( I had salad with mine instead of chips) I have to say the fish was amazing I would say 100 times better than you would get at a fish shop. The batter was so light & crispy and the fish tasted so good. The staff made us feel so welcome happy smiling faces and we did not have to wait long before our food came I would whole heartily recommend plants plus for lunch
