The coffee is amazing, but the wine/cheese service can be very slow sometimes.

Grace and James hosted a group of us for a Hen Do Cheese & Wine Tasting and the whole day was brilliant. They made such an effort to tailor the day to our needs and offered a beautiful space for us to decorate! It was an all round a perfect day - thank you so much!

Honestly 5 stars isn’t enough for this place! We’re moving home to Australia in August and Grace and James, Flock and York road in general are going to one of the things we miss the most! Lewis, Wilf, Henry and Alasdair are top notch and know what they’re talking about and make you feel welcome from the second you walk in. Their hospitality, knowledge and passion for what they do is impeccable. They’re a local independent that is passionate about their community and with a small team, always delivers. Especially when the sun comes out. Great selection of wines, the yummiest cheeses and the best coffee in Brum!! And nothing beats York road in the sunshine! ☀️

Grace and James is one of my favourite places in Birmingham. I have been to wine tastings, cheese events, and have also just spent many a happy Saturday in the sunshine on York Road. I found out that I had coeliac 2 years ago and the staff have been incredibly helpful with recommendations and alternative options. I can genuinely say I have never had a bad wine recommendation from any of the staff (all of whom are lovely). So lucky to have such a brilliant independent business on the doorstep.

Me and my partner frequently stop in here when we can, around our own busy hospitality work schedule. We've been here when it is quiet, and we have been here when it is busy. No matter what, we, as well as the people around us, are made to feel incredibly welcome, and part of a wider community that goes further just this building. Over the years, G+J has been more than a place to nab delicious wine and cheese. It is a pillar of the community that embraces and supports everything around it. Frequently promoting the best of Kings Heath, Birmingham and beyond. We're leaving the country in August, and can unashamedly admit that we will miss this, our third place, so much. The people, the food, the (Flock) coffee, the wine, the cheese. This place is what hospitality was made for. A 1 star review calling out an employee by name, because you're too uppity than to observe some patience while they work hard, in peak time in the heat of summer, is pathetic. So I'll call them out on a 5 star review and say that Lewis, as well as the rest of the team, have never been anything short of delightful. Don't come here if you're an uptight drama queen. Enjoy an absolute treat on a road already stacked with incredible independents. Drop in on their socials to keep up to date with wine tastings/pairings, pop up food events, some of the best coffee in Birmingham and a team of great folks that'll treat you right. Easy.

Banging sandwiches, delicious wine, lovely coffee from Flock. We've always felt welcome here as has our dog who gets a bowl of water without asking. Service from Lewis and Wilf friendly and attentive. Great space outside and always plenty of tables.

Amazing service, best wine and wine knowledge in Birmingham. The wine may be expensive but that’s reflective of the quality, curation and relationship they have with small producers. Great friendly staff with personalised service, particularly from Lewis.

Rude staff, Lewis, who ignore you whilst chatting to a friend & tell you products are out of stock when they can't be arsed to go next door. Overpriced, even for a wine & cheese bar, and sadly becoming stuck up! We have been coming here for year but will never come again!

I love this place. If you want a genuinely exciting, different selection of wines, then this is the place to go. A great range of natural wines, including orange wines which you cannot find anywhere else locally. Plus some amazing cheeses!

One star is flattering this place. My friend ordered a black coffee from the curiously placed bar tucked away in the back corner of the building and then had to wait almost 30 minutes for it. We were met with arrogance and contempt when we asked where it had got to. The coffee wasn't even very good when it arrived. I don't know how a place with such poor customer service can survive.

A legit wine nerd wine bar, but still VERY down to earth for those of us who don't know much... Surprisingly good cannoli too? I'll take it.

The service was slow, the aperol spritz was watery, the music was too loud and not great choice, the food is overpriced.

Great atmosphere, nice flat white and I noticed a lot of nice wine. Looks like somewhere to come back to in the evening as well.

I have to thank the owner for opening his restaurant to allow us to use the baby changing facilities on the day of the artisan market. Can't thank you enough.

The best restaurant in Kings Heath with a great selection of wines. The service is friendly they are very knowledgeable on the food and drinks served. The menu changes regularly, and is always delicious. There are good veggie options. It can get busy so make a reservation if you can. There is parking on York Rd very close by.

Lovely supper at Upstairs -had lots of smaller plates to share and the raclette fries were as good as we hoped!

We were charged corkage despite having paid over the odds already for the rather insipid wines we drank. Bit dreary and pretentious really, a kind of pound-shop Moseley.

We first experienced Grace and James at Queens Heath event. The Inside had a few tables but was very light and bright. There's a large cheese and wine selection. Plus a fridge of ales to choose from. They also sell their bottles of wine to take home. We will certainly be back for more wine and cheese!

Best Sunday roast we’ve ever had (not at home) outstanding beef, crispiest roasties and delicious veggie option. Easily best roast dinner in kings heath. Unfortunately only got pic of our starters as was too keen to tuck into mains!

There is a distinct way in which, when following up on part of a coffee and cannoli order thats been forgotten, even the on-the-house apology Cannoli doesn’t make up for the thinly veiled bitterness of the staff that delivered it. Food was good service made it a horrible experience.

Had a fabulous Sunday lunch here to celebrate my daughter's 28th birthday 🎂 (where have the years gone). 3 in our party had the roast beef with veg, the white cabbage was delicious and so were the roasties and I had the lamb with all the veg and really good dark, thick gravy, just how I like it. We didn't have starters or desserts as we knew how filling the Sunday roast mains were but the glass of dessert wine and cappuccino rounded my meal off nicely. Lovely relaxed vibe in the restaurant upstairs and great service 👍, if I lived in Kings Heath I wouldn't bother cooking a Sunday dinner again I would just book in here. Really enjoyable couple of hours all round, thank you.

Wonderful place, and the food is amazing

I've been going here for coffee, and the occasional cannoli, for a few weeks now. Hands down, it is the best coffee in KH.

This is a review for Upstairs at Grace & James. Went to a relaxed mid-week brunch. Great choice of food and hot drinks although would like to have a decaf coffee option. Food was delicious, good portion sizes

Pretty good on a sunny night.. Now that York Rd is closed to traffic, this is a great night spot. Many open bars etc on the street and a great vibe. Beer choices could be larger, but great wine choices ..

Lovely place. Great staff with excellent drinks knowledge. My sparkling wine today was sublime, and was well priced at £6 a glass. Went elsewhere afterwards and really pined for more of what I had enjoyed earlier. Have enjoyed their cheese plate and meats plate before. Such a great vibe here. Lovely owners too.

Went for drinks on Saturday night, first time visit. Choice of wines was good and the server went through them all at the table. Two beers on the menu and the IPA was very nice. We ordered food from the menu to pick at whilst we had a drink. The cheese board was very nice and also enjoyed the terrine. The olives and nuts were very nice. We are looking forward to coming back when the open Upstairs

Sophie and Henry are both incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and will go out of their way to make sure you eat some incredible food and drink some incredible wine. I'm so glad we have such a wonderful local wine bar and would recommend to anyone!

Grace + James. (Kings heath). What a great wine & cheese shop. Never seen it open before. Oh my god... If you love your cheeses like I do, then you need to make a visit here. Love soft salty cheese, i.e. Gorgonzola... mmm. They have English gorgonzola and an Italian gorgonzola, both melt in the mouth. WOW. I will be going back for more.

We have been to Grace and James a number of times since it reopened. It's a great spot with staff that are passionate and knowledgeable about wine. Every wine we have sampled or bought to take home has been delicious and their sandwiches are also incredible- the bahn mi was one of the best I have ever had! Lovely community feel to it and one of my favourite places in Birmingham.

White walls lined with bottles of great wine. Good service and the house fizz, both red and white, is delicious.

A bottle of wine and a cheese board for £34 would have been acceptable if the cheese board was of a decent size. Although delicious, we were served 5 crackers and the smallest pieces of cheese. Wonderful selection of Italian cannoli, however not a good idea to leave them just inside the main door, uncovered, in Covid time. Also it took 2 emails and one phone call to organise a booking and 10 mins after we were given our wine we got told the kitchen was going to shut. Having said that it's a nice place to go for one drink and the staff is friendly enough.

Visited this venue on 19/07/20 and had 3 glasses of wine. We were sold this following a very pretentious sales pitch that suggested we were getting quality wine. The wine was awful and the worst part was the price. Three medium glasses of wine set me back £20.00. I have tasted better wine from the range sold at Lidl. We will definitely not be returning.

Grace and James open little over a year ago and I visit at least once a fortnight. It’s a really cute venue, the staff are all wonderful and friendly but the real attraction are the cheese and the drinks. I love wine but they always have a couple of lovely pale ales on tap which I tend to go for. We always go for a cheese platter to share along with our drinks which is a really nice treat and the cheeses change all the time and are always delicious and come with quince which I though was sweets at first but I’m now educated they are to spread on the cheese and it’s a delicious combination:). All of my friends who have visited love the place to, a wonderful edition to kings heath and long may their success continue.

Great independent, interesting and varied wine. Couple of good rotating beers on tap from the likes of locals Glasshouse & Burning Soul or further afield such as The Kernel. People unhappy with £7 corkage are missing the point. This is a shop and bar. The wine on the shelves is shown at 'take out' price. If you were to buy this kind of wine in a standalone bar or restaurant it would be far more than Grace & James' shop price + corkage.

Friendly wine bar with a good selection of very reasonably priced wines, a simple fixed corkage charged is applied to wines sold at retail prices. Excellent place for a relaxed glass/bottle of wine and a plate of cheese. Lots of nooks and crannies to sit and chat away the hours. Friendly and helpful staff. Cant wait to pop back.

I went with my husband for his birthday in April and I have to say it was fantastic. The atmosphere/environment was perfect, it was well set up and both the wine and cheese's were delicious. Henry was a great host. Great location, venue and prices.

A very nice range of wine from around the world. Run by people who know wine and can talk about it with out being snobby. The beer was excellent as was the cheese, the vegan cheese and mixed charcuterie plates.

Ran by an incredibly friendly staff this bar has a simple and bright decor with a great selection of natural wines. The deli style food options are also delicious. The corking fee is quite steep at £7 but the quality of the wines on offer more than make up for it.
