Been enjoying the products of this bakery since the early 1960's, but after 25 years away from home, the bean and potato pies, plain bridies, violets, and mocha cakes were just some of the items I missed so much. How disappointed was I when moving back to find this bakery in decline, the meat in the pies and bridies is awful, they don't make the tattie and bean anymore, the shops have a feel of sparse, "soon to be closed" about them, many if the much loved bakery items discontinued, I remember as a young man meeting Mr Goodfellow frequently when he was performing his shop inspections, a lovely man, but he would be so disappointed in the state of the business. Strange thing, I tried the JM Bakery, and their bean and tattie pies, whole bigger, had that lovely familiar flavour, as did the bridies. So so sad to see Goodfellow and Stevens is not the premier bakery in Angus anymore.

Very rude and opinionated older female in the Dundee ' Day After 'store on Blackness Road. Needs to wind her neck in and learn some basic customer service skills The products you sell are very good, but this woman is upsetting customers and it's a regular occurrence. She is not suited to. customer facing role.

Very disappointed, visited the bakery in broughty ferry today and purchased a cream iced cookie and a caramel meringue. Both cakes were inedible as the cream in the meringue was hard and did not taste fresh and the cream iced cookie was hard. Was looking forward to a treat but will not be in a hurry to visit again as not cheap.

Blairgowrie Went in this morning and apparently, fiddling about with cakes is a priority over serving customers, so I walked out. Not sure the recent refurb is going to work out for you how you hope if it's considered acceptable to ignore customers with money in hand.

The sit-in cafe is alongside the bakery shop which had a large display of cakes which caught our eye. Although it had signs which indicated it had won awards for its pies sadly they had none available in the cafe - presumably sold out. Instead I had a roll with Lorne sausage and my wife had a roll with bacon. These were nice enough as was the coffee but at £10.70 it was fairly average for what appeared to be a traditional local bakery. Service was okay. In the end we didn't bother with the cakes.

Lovely wee spot to stop off. Locally, it is very historical but perhaps more importantly, the quality of the produce and the level of customer service can almost transport you back in time ( think Downton!) Food is locally cooked / baked Limited seating but such a special experience. Pls try the chocolate violets if you can - more ish!.

We happened to stumble across this place after visiting Broughty Ferry Castle and we are glad we did! It is a lovely little cafe with very limited seating but staff are very welcoming and helpful when choosing what to eat from their well-priced menu. All of our food was very tasty and our drinks hot - absolutely no complaints!

Whatever has happened to Goodfellow and Steven They were (in the past) an excellent baker Now it is impossible to even get a fresh cream cake, which is appalling Instead they offer appalling fake 'cream' which is like plastic They are clearly of a much lower quality and nowhere near their competitors like Fisher and Donaldson or J M Bakery I find it amazing that what is supposed to be a premium bakery does not even provide fresh cream cakes

Having gone in to buy cream cakes as a treat, for the family,I was disgusted to find when getting home that the filling was not fresh cream, but an appalling synthetic filling that was tasteless and not edible. I am old enough to recall Goodfellow and Steven as a real quality baker. This in no way was quality, and if I had wanted a cheap, unpleasantly tasting, synthetically filled cake I would have gone elsewhere. I would also like to know what the ingredients of this synthetic 'cream' filling are. Would highlight also that the price was not in keeping with such cheap ingredients What a disappointment. Goodfellow and Steven really needs to think about what it is selling to customers .

Visited yesterday with my teenage grandson. We both had tea, a Scotch pie each, one portion of beans in a small ramekin dish and 2 chocolate éclairs. The pot of tea was small for 2 but staff topped it up so we could get a 2nd not so strong cup. The charge of £4.20 was ridiculous as was the £1.10 for a small portion of baked beans. Our éclairs were chosen from the shop and no one mentioned they were not fresh cream. Since when did Goodfellow & Steven use artificial cream? They cost £2.20 each! Grossly overpriced. I'm all for supporting local businesses but not at these prices. There are many other coffee shops in the area offering better value for money and more comfortable surroundings.

Perth, Scott street. As above beetle found in egg roll cooked in! Called to tell them got relplied to like a child, back up, confrontational etc told to bring it back. I was at work therefore couldn't and not keeping it aside for hours to take back. Emailed in Sep no reply. Emailed Nov got a reply to say it will be passed to relivent person. Still no reply. Today thought I'd give them the benifit of doubt if the same people were not on service due to cleanliness, entered and was told I am not allowed food nor to be served! Come back Monday and speak with her manager. Firstly shocked at this behaviour, should be genuinely concerned that this has happened. But no back up confrontational which is really bad service.. I am really humilitated by the response we are not all perfect but surely for health and safety your staff should be concerned and not treat customers this way? This is not the first issue I've had with staff in this bakers even away back when they were on the hight street I've had a rude girl no longer there now. I've had incorrect foods put on rolls etc and yes I know we're not all perfect but surely a better response to me and an apology. After all we are the ones lining your pockets with money and during Covid still shopping... I think I've said enough

One lovely lady who was calm, pleasant and polite at all times was rushed off her feet for the entire time I was in the cafe. She had to do everything on her own. When I suggested to the manager that more staff were needed in the cafe she snapped that they couldn't have more than one person there. Having read previous reviews I see that this isn't an isolated incident. So all praise and support to the woman who was left to do it all without help. She did a wonderful job under ridiculous and unneccesary pressure.

Me and my ladies went in for our coffee and cakes as usual, cafe is always clean and welcoming. However poor lassie was running about trying to accommodate all of the tables and other tasks. When addressing our table she explained that she was running it on her own today and this is not the first time I’ve witnessed this, another lady who attends to the cafe has mentioned this before. Also, the cafe does not seem to have taken any precautions regarding the virus as tables are too close to one another, we felt uneasy because of this. However we can not fault the food and service, just wish it was a bit quicker!

What a thoroughly unpleasant experience! Surly, uninterested staff, an extremely long wait for food which when it arrived consisted of poor quality ingredients that were poorly cooked. When trying to complain, The manageress informed us she was serving a customer and walked off into the bakery, we left in disgust after paying. There was clearly no management of staff, tables were not being cleared. Delivering food without the utensils to eat it, poor quality food and a couldn’t care less attitude. Cutlery and crockery was getting crashed about..if you don’t like the job or serving customers politely, find other employment. As a customer i suggest you find somewhere better to eat and spend your money. I wish we had read the other reviews before we went there. We won’t be going back, I would have detailed all the other problems but feel it would be a waste of time.

So people are asking why this place closed, as it's quite rightly got great reviews for staff service, food, coffee, and general vibe. This was my favourite spot to have a quiet coffee or meet people for a light lunch in Dundee. Basically, the story is that the owner shafted a pregnant employee the day after she went on maternity. He "fired" her and refused to pay her maternity. The staff, having apparently been paid not that great already which is testament to their professionalism given the quality of service, walked out in protest. This was late Spring when the hospitality industry seemingly had ten job vacancies for every candidate, so they rapidly just found other work and Birchwood's workforce simply evaporated overnight. Word got out on Facebook and, especially given the prices, ignited a general boycott of the place through the outrage. I'm unsure if the employee ever did get her *legally required* maternity pay. The last that was being said was that the owner had not only blocked her number, but also HMRC's! A lesson in how a lovely place can come crashing down through the sheer greed of its owner.

Came in on a sunny afternoon for an iced coffee, only to be told they had ran out of ice and they had no cold drink cups to take out? How is this possible!!! Thought I would settle for a regular latte, clearly not their fault, sat down and realised I had made a fatal mistake. It was BOILING in there. How do you let your staff work in this heat???? It’s inhumane! AC vents on the ceiling but no feeling of cold air coming out, and one small fan next to the coffee machine where the barista was standing. The baristas were visibly exhausted and overheated, and not one of them looked happy to be there. Management sort it out!!!!!
