Good Neighbour in Southwark

Had a mid week dinner here and am sorry but it's just too expensive for what it is and where it is. I the food when it arrived was a good quality but the quantities were small. Went with a friend and we had 1 drink each and bill came to £60pp. This was started main dessert, think there's better value places on the same street for better quality and better pricing. Expected more from Camberwell.

I recently hired the downstairs of this venue for my partners birthday and I have to say, I was blown away. The venue itself was immaculate, and the service was incredible. Kate was great looking after all of us, making sure we were topped up with drinks and having a great time. Top quality night and highly recommend, will definitely be back to try the food as it smelt so good! Many thanks, Dan

£5 pints and small plates after work is an absolute dream

Good food but slightly overpriced for what it is. Went for a quiet meal and ordered 6 plates (as recommended) left hungry. Was over £50 each which I thought was a bit pricey with 1 drink each.

I wouldn’t usually write a review but we went to good neighbour for dinner and some wine and we were very disappointed. The wine was nice but The food was poor, especially the tenderstem & ricotta and pork cheek, and it was all really over priced too. £40 per head and we left hungry. I’ve had to make myself a bacon and egg sandwich.

We visited as a family of 5, and sampled several of the sharing dishes made by the chef Adey, excellent and very involved and informative. Mackerel mousse, his renowned hot artichoke dip, lettuce and pear salad, ham hock terrine and an unusual chicken butter as starters. Several new main plates, all hot and tasty. Friendly wait staff. Also great value food and wine.

Lovely little spot, friendly and great service. Faultless food, lovely bathroom with Ren products and a great ambience. I had grapefruit juice, an espresso and a flat white with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon which were the best I have had in years. Hubby had the full English, everything top notch. Loved it! Wish I lived in the neighbourhood!

Was wonderful to be town with the family but it presents a mixed bag of food requirements. Good neighbour has a small menu and the vegan options didn’t contain many calories. The menu was limited and the dishes where small, as expected and perfectly formed but personally they didn’t sing with flavours. The service was great and about the right pace not rushing us through our meal and the plates arrived at the right intervals so we weren’t swamped with dishes. The drinks menu was excellent and they catered for non drinkers with plenty of virgin cocktails which were excellent. They also had a good wine list to choose from. The atmosphere was buzzy but on a hot summers night the traffic noise and passing emergency vehicles could be penetrating. Would I go back? Don’t think so but never say never.

Very high quality food, with lovely atmosphere and motivated and congenial staff.

Sublime, eclectic food unlike any other place I’ve tried. Service was impeccable. Won’t hesitate to come back and sample the rest of the menu! If you go, I highly recommend the stuffed gnocchi. I could’ve had several platefuls

Wow! What an absolute treat we had at Good Neighbour in Camberwell. The food is done to such a high standard - Ady the chef and manager is clearly so passionate about his menu - it was a pleasure to experience. The ambience is great - highly recommend a trip!

Absolutely insane prices for how little food you get. The plates were very basic and the cocktails were not nice.

This is a "small portions" restaurant - maybe like Tapas but with British fare. My family including a octogenarian and teenagers loved the food.

A whole new meaning to the term “small plates” - you will leave hungry. Don’t pay attention to the reviews from 1+ years ago or you will be disappointed. It’s a shame because some of the food was delicious, though the seafood courses were especially austere, costing over £12 for offensively and unethically small slivers of fish It’s a shame to see that the culinary talent is there but that the business is a cash grab more than a place to enjoy food- this kind of attitude in restaurants is ruining the London food scene and more locally, Camberwell If you’re in the area, other places are infinitely more worth it!

Great cocktails especially the espresso martini, and the pumpkin arancini was delicious (though would have liked more!). My only criticism was that I was expecting a bit more flavour from the cauliflower dish. Good range of vegan options, which is why we were there. A great place to go for a drink and a bite, and the ambiance was lovely too :)

Lovely wine bar with delicious small plates - couldn’t fault it!

Posticino davvero carino, ambiente molto rilassante, erano quasi in chiusura ma ci hanno fatto accomodare. Abbiamo ordinato vari piatti per poter assaggiare più cose possibili, notevoli le polpettine al gorgonzola, il pane con carciofi e parmigiano, i tortelloni, i broccoli con la cremina agrodolce alle noci. Promosso.

Everything about this evening was Good Neighbourly. Friendly, accommodating and appropriately attentive. Our glasses were never empty. Food delicious 😢 some plates were set up in threes, as meant 1 of us had to sacrifice another taste or ruin a lovely presentation by cutting one in half! They received this feedback and offered to make one more 🙏. In summary a lovely evening, great staff (1 person was on 1st shift but wouldn’t have known if not told - what a pro) only downside it got very warm in the bar area so 🤞 air conditioning installed for our visit

Food was great. If there are enough of you, would suggest trying everything (small plates)

We’ve been here a few times now and the food has always been great. But now they’ve started an after work £5 per drink/small plate menu until 6.30pm: we’ve been a couple of times and the food/service is brilliant and for London it’s SO cheap!!! It’s sad that both times we’ve been the only people there when other places in Camberwell seem so much busier. I’d highly recommend this place whether it’s for the early dinner special or dinner or anything. The food and staff and vibe have always been great.

All the foods we ordered had delicate flavors and were just amazing. I didn’t expect that I could have such an enjoyable moment in London. Highly recommend.

Mine and my partner's favourite restaurant! Innovative and mouth wateringly delicious food, as well as a romantic ambiance. The team is wonderfully considerate. The chef is a true artist, always up for a chat! Our go to plates are the prawn croquettes, Korean chicken, and the deep fried honey feta.

Between the group of 11 of us for a birthday celebration, we were only allowed to dine on the set menu option which looked great on paper, however in reality it was very problematic. Some highlights below.. 1) The dishes were randomly placed across our tables, there would be 3 plates of arancini on one end and none on the other, so people were missing out on dishes without realising. 2) None of the staff we spoke to knew how the dishes were divided between the group; we asked multiple times if it’s one plate between 2 people? How does it work? Etc. The first staff wrongly confirmed with us that it was one plate each then later corrected himself after enquiring internally. At one point, we flagged that there’s 3 small slices of salmon between 5 people. The staff checked & confirmed that there should be exactly 10 pieces across the table in total. We jokingly flagged that should we portion out 9 & three quarters between 11 people? The staff awkwardly laughed it off but did nothing about it. 2 of the diners had to sacrifice. 3) We had 3 small portions of truffle chips to divided between 11 people!! That’s basically 3-4 chips per person, extremely ungenerous. 4) There’s no ‘beef tortellini’ alternative for the vegetarian diners on the table. They simply just had to sit out for the course. 5) Our drinks came after the sharing starters courses In summary, the sharing menu was clearly designed for each diner to one bite of food per dish: ONE croquette, ONE slice of salmon, ONE slice of bread, ONE broccoli, ONE Tortellini. It would leave you confused, hungry and frustrated with the staff. I do not recommend this restaurant for group dining.

Really nice restaurant/wine bar in Camberwell

The small plates we had (all veggie) were delicious. The charcuterie board was a bit of a joke, 4 pieces of pepperoni a few slices of speciality meat, 4 small cornichons from Lidl and some crackers. We were seated in the basement which smells strongly of toilets. If you can sit upstairs it’s worth a visit.

This was an amazing experience from the front of house service all the way through. How the chef (Garry - you are a star) manages to prepare the number of plates for a packed restaurant, in the time that he does and the space thdy he has, is nothing short of astonishing. Great atmosphere. Great night. Thank you.

Went out for dinner with 4 people we so essentially ordered one of everything. The highlight was definitely the croquettes but everything was spot on. It’s dimly lit and has a nice ambience, will be coming back for date night!

2nd best meal I’ve every had. Quality not quantity and a riot of delicious flavours. Outstanding food. Lovely service. I won’t forget it.

Came here for dessert and drinks, we had the brownie cheesecake with the chocolate orange espresso martini and it was perfect.

We are living in the area for years now and just find out about that place. The atmosphere is lovely, the food is exquisite, good selection of wine and really friendly staff. Will definitely come back.

Intimate bar with incredible cocktails and the artichoke dip will stay with me forever

Honestly some of the most delicious food I have ever eaten. Have been to both the Tooting and Camberwell restaurant now and both were great.

The food is really good. I was cynical about the whole small plate thing, as the portions aren't big, but everything is really well prepared and extremely tasty. The service was friendly and attentive and the large has a nice buzz. Eating upstairs is much nicer as the downstairs room can feel a bit like an overspill.

We went here for a drink while waiting for our table at Theo's but so loved the look of the menu and atmosphere of the bar we thought we would stay here for supper instead - and we are SO glad we did! We loved all the dishes we ordered but most specifically the artichoke and parmesan dip with sourdough bread - amazing. Drinks too were fab. So glad we stayed and will definitely be back soon

Fantastic food and great service. Sharing plates and great cocktails. Highly recommend the fried feta! We were recommended this place by a waitress at another place and glad we came to visit. We’ll definitely come again.

We loved this place when we first came four years ago just after it opened; it has only got better over time. The chef grew up on a farm and all meat is free range / organic. The menu is incredibly well-conceived, and the items are delicious individually or in any combination - it is ambitious and clever cookery. The team is friendly, helpful and relaxed, and the ambience is cozy but chic. It’s a gem.

One of the best meals I’ve had in london for a long time. Amazing versatility on the menu, matched with fantastic drinking options. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier and were invested in providing an excellent service. For all the food and drink you get, it was incredible value.

Fantastic Food and Fantastic service from the waiters

This was my first meal in London. Ordered just about everything on the menu that was available and it was like heaven! We also ordered 5 different cocktails and each were so unique and exotic in flavor. The seating in the basement is actually very romantic, and the hidden group room is very cool for special gatherings. My only complaint is that you can really smell the sewage when you go downstairs, which is a bit off-putting. Service and quality of food including the creative, recipes really make up for it, and the restaurant deserves 5 ⭐️ ❤️

One of the best additions to the South London dining scene. Especially with their selection of wines from lesser know regions and their amazing food. And the staff is the dream! BRAVO

Had dinner here a few weeks ago. Wonderful mix of small plates and mini carafes of wine to try a few. Very cosy and close tables but didn't feel cramped. Really friendly smiley staff

Hands down *THE* best restaurant in Camberwell. The feta spiced honey was delicious as was the Korean fried chicken. Definitely recommend! Will be coming back for sure. 2 drinks, 2 starters and 4 mains worked out to around £40 each.

Absolutely delicious. Good value bottle of plonk accompanied by a variety of complex dishes that hit the spot in all the right places. Unami smeared prawn croquettes and the oomf of truffle loaded wild boar ravioli to finish were particular highlights. Throughly enjoyed the entire experience.

The food and cocktails were good and the staff were really friendly. Nice atmosphere too so can't complain. It is a little place so it has a small menu so I would recommend checking it online before you go if you have specific food requirements.

We went las night and did not have a great experience. Atmosphere was nice and the waiter was friendly, but food was nothing special (costly for what it is) and the white wine came at room temperature (not a cheap one). Sad because we were looking forward to try it after so many good reviews, but we won't be coming back.

Wine choice is great and at a reasonable price. We come regularly and we'll keep on coming

This is the second time I've been to Good Neighbour in the Camberwell branch. We were startsruck by the attentive, bearded and long haired maître d' who was highly knowledgable and clearly well-travelled. I entered the establishment, feeling parched and famished but left feeling most adequately satisfied. The deep fried breaded Feta was a stand out dish (well recommended by said maître d'!) and I boldly had to enquire how the chef de partie made such a crisp, fried & delicious dish. Quite frankly, I recommend Good Neighbour to everyone and anyone in the South London area and my compliments to all who are involved in the running of this highly revered, and most gracious establishment. Thank you kindly, I will most certainly be back for a third time visit!

Beautiful food, beautiful wine. The service was outstanding. Keeping the standard exceptionally high as they opened their third Good Neighbour (in Peckham, check it out also!). Perfect place for dates or catch up drinks. My friends love it now as much as I do. Great, electric atmosphere with a mix of different ages in the restaurant. Cool, sexy vibes 😎

I had an unfortunate experience at this restaurant. Not because of the food (which was exceptional) or the service, but instead because of the behaviour I witnessed from what I assumed were two senior members of staff. The two men, in front of their customers, taunted, shouted, and acted unprofessionally and inappropriately to their young female employees during service. Regardless of how much I enjoyed the food here, I will not be returning to offer business to an establishment run by morally dubious individuals.

Make sure when you book you request a table on ground floor. We were in basement which was cold and lacked ambience... Food very good but not cheap!

Great staff, great atmosphere, great food. What more could you want? The menu is a selection of small plates designed to be shared so you get to have a nice range of food. They also have a good range of wine and lots of nice cocktails!

I'm not gonna lie, one of the few upsides in South London's remorseless march towards gentrification are boujie little hideaways like Good Neighbour. Cosy and intimate surroundings, a solid drinks list and delightful staff makes this the ideal neighbourhood bar. The food is imaginative, beautifully presented and (compared to similar fare in the west end at least) reasonably priced. Like all small/sharing plates style places be prepared to spend big or fill up on chips on the way home.

I do really like this place in terms of fine wines and tapas style food with good veggie options. The gnocchi was amazing! However, if you are at all COVID anxious then I don’t recommend it at this time. They are a small restaurant and are doing their best but tables can only really be quite close together in this small space. I also felt one waitress was too close in proximity to my face and that they should in a small space all be wearing masks really. It is advisable if you can’t maintain a distance that masks are worn by staff in such circumstances: 1metre plus protection. The selection of music was fab though and it generally has a nice atmosphere to the place. I think people would feel more reassured if masks were adopted by staff in this case - particularly as it gets into colder weather and ventilation cannot be supplied by an open front door.

Food was nice but felt overpriced for what it was. The poor waitress was on her own making the experience strained for all involved. Plus we were told off by staff for now respecting social distancing measures when some friends popped in to say hi, but when we were given a table they seemed to have no issue with putting us less than 1.5m away from other patrons. Genuinely gutted that it wasn’t better as I liked the place and it’s pet friendly.

The menu looked great but we didn't feel at all respected regarding coronavirus concerns. We specifically asked to be seated outside in our online table booking due to covid worries but when we arrived we were told to sit indoors, even though there was space in the garden. We would have been happy with an hour and a half outside and then leaving before the 9 pm outdoor dining cutoff but a woman (who I assume was a manager) decided to debate me and talk down to me about my covid worries instead. I felt very uncomfortable with the fact that we were being pressured to go beyond our comfort zone when there were available outdoor seats, so we left. All in all, the menu looked nice but I don't think we'll be returning as this interaction was very unpleasant. There are too many amazing places with outdoor dining elsewhere in Camberwell to waste time somewhere whose staff make you feel paranoid for trying to take extra steps to be safer during a pandemic.

Food was alright, with a tiny bit more effort it could be great! Burrata was rock hard, gnocchi overcooked. Do ask for a table upstairs as it’s much nicer and downstairs lacks atmosphere.

Lovely to see that the restaurant was packed on a Monday for Eat Out To Help Out and a few group of people were turned away. Had the artichokes and Parmesan dip, cauliflowers, ox cheek, burrata, Mac and cheese balls and gnocchi. Ox cheek and burrata were incredible and I would also recommend the cauliflowers too. Enjoyed the evening there.

Hidden gem of a restaurant in Camberwell. Great selection of food and cocktails. Chilled vibes in the evenings for a date. Food is divine, comes in smaller plates, recommend the fried feta with honey and sesame. There's also small venue space in the basement for gatherings.

Went here for a friend's birthday. We took over the basement area and had a great time. The staff were lovely.

One of the best meals I've had in London. Food, cocktails, wine and staff were all excellent.

What a gem of a place. The staff were brilliant, especially Emma our waitress. Can't believe the chefs deliver such amazing food from such a small facility. The food was absolutely top notch. Stuffed gnocchi was amazing but so too were the cauliflower with hummus and harissa, the mozzarella with beetroot and orange and the boar ravioli. All with superb tastes, balance and interest, walnuts, almonds and pistachios on different dishes added textures and flavour to die for. Wished we had been able to fit in more but 4 plates were plenty between 2 and extremely reasonably priced. Our food bill was £16 each. Definitely going again!

Good Neighbour you do make guests work :D tiny portions and slow food delivery. Food does taste great and the guy with glasses is one of the loveliest employees you could wish for. If you could have a quicker food delivery - not bring one plate at the time, and the portions were a tiny bit bigger it would be great! Just my 2 cent.

Came here for a birthday meal / drink and was quite disappointed as it looked nice from the outside. My friend arrived first and waited half an hour for her glass of wine which had to be ordered three times. When we ordered food we were told it would be a long wait as lots of people had ordered at once, which surprised us as you'd think that would be something that would be managed. We ordered the cheese board and it never arrived, also had to order it three times and it eventually arrived when we were ready to leave. The staff were really nice but it all seemed very disorganised, everybody rushing around seemingly in a panic. It feels like they're not sure what they want to be. People go there for food but they don't seem to have the set-up to manage people eating as well as drinking. I've had a much nicer time in Stockton and Winemakers in Deptford and wish I had gone there instead.
