Good Fortune in North Devon

Very good takeaway. Finally arrived after a nightmare drive. Main road was closed and diversion badly signposted. Should have taken the road to Croyde !! road apparently was closed off for housing development ( the locals aren't happy but money talks !!) Followed a sign to Braunston, bad mistake 6 miles down country tracks !!. Food was excellent and well worth the trauma. Had the set meal for 3 . More than sufficient for next day.

5 stars!! great food, been there a few times and it’s very good and fresh. favourite dishes were the sweet and sour hong kong, honey mustard chicken and teriyaki chicken.

Excellent pepper fries. Never tried these before but they were exceptional. Chicken chow mien tasty and hot. Great takeaway.

Bit hit and miss, some dishes were nice including special fried rice and Singapore noodles, the chicken balls a bit doughy and the Hong Kong chicken was too chewy and the chips where really dry, Pretty expensive compared to others and could do with some lessons in customer service.

We opted for the takeaway as we were on a holiday with the dog Ordered by phone we picked it up within half an hour Absolutely stunning food which was very reasonable

My family were fancying Chinese food for dinner while on holiday in Braunton and this takeaway did not disappoint. We had six dishes (Chicken Satay, Chicken Sweet'n'Sour, Chicken Chowmein, Special Fried Rice and Beef& Courgette) and they were all cooked well and were very tasty. The price was also really reasonable. Only issue is that they only take cash, which is a pain nowadays.

Phoned and put through an order for a family of 6 at 7.45 and was told it would be ready by 8.30pm turned up and wasnt even cooked so waited til nearly 9pm ( which is when they close) for our food. No apologies nothing

I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE IT ZERO RATING IF I COULD. DISGUSTING FOOD. I HAD A CHICKEN CURRY. THE SAUCE HAD SO MUCH OIL OR GREASE IN IT. THE SAUCE WAS SPLITTING AND WHEN I DIPPED THE CHIPS IN THE SAUCE IT JUST RUN OFF. THE QUALITY OF THE CHICKEN IS QUESTIONABLE. COOKED? MY WIFE HAD THE SPECIAL CHOW MEIN. NOTHING SPECIAL ABOUT IT. NO FLAVOUR, THE MEAT WAS POOR. I’M SURE THAT SOME OF THE SO CALLED MEAT WAS SPAM! IT WAS THAT BAD SHE COULDN’T EAT IT. BY FAR THE WORST CHINESE WE HAVE EVER HAD. WE HAD FOOD FROM THIS CHINESE LAST YEAR AND HAD NO PROBLEM THAT IS WHY WE WENT BACK. ON A POSITIVE NOTE THE CHIPS ARE VERY GOOD!

I have had several meals from this establishment now and I must admit having experienced takeaways from many different places this takeaway takes some beating. My favourite item on the menu is the special curry I found the meat to be very tender and a generous amount of meats and prawns. The sauce was just right not too hot but hot enough.

I genuinely have no idea how this place is profitable, they never answer the phone but have multiple staff standing around ignoring the phone while it rings. I rung 34 times tonight to order. If you manage to get through they will say they are not accepting anymore orders because too busy. If you go to the shop they will keep you waiting over 50 minutes if you’re lucky. They are only open 4 hours a day at best and still struggle to provide any decent service. The food is actually good, it’s the service or lack of that is the problem. I won’t give these morons anymore of my time.

We phoned for a delivery. The lady on the phone was very friendly and helpful. The delivery driver was also very friendly and quick. But the star of the show is definitely the food. I just can't fault it. The portions are generous and so tasty.

On a short break at Ruda and we fancied a Chinese takeaway. We found the Good Fortune in Braunton who delivered to Ruda for a small charge. The food was excellent as was the service all round. Highly recommended.

Foods nice and probably the nicest I've found in braunton area, not the biggest fan of the curry sauces but they're adequate for taste just a little bland compared to what I'm used to on taste. It's not just this in particular chinese but also many i have found in devon, the indian houses, fish and chip shops are the same in flavour, they are just unable to get the same authentic taste as the north and unsure why? the chicken its a little rubbery and wet textured in the curries and not for me personally its hit and miss wherever you go, but each to their own as everyone has preferences. If ordering from braunton area this nicest i've found in the area. But be aware of the steep charge for delivery I've known £3 but over a £5 for less than 10 minutes to drop off come on. This is more advice/warning for Northerners as they will notice a big difference in taste compared to their local house, as I know if you live around her it would be a normal taste and you wouldn't know any different.

On holiday in Woolacombe and decided to give this place a try based on the reviews, absolutely superb service and food, we had Chicken Curry, Sweet and Sour Hong Kong style and Crispy Beef, all were fresh, hot and tasty, it was ready at exactly the time agreed, the girls in the shop were very friendly and polite, we will definitely be ordering from them again this week, would highly recommend.

We wanted a Chinese takeaway whilst holidaying in Croyde. We ordered from the Good Fortune and we weren’t disappointed. A fantastic meal delivered on time and piping hot. The quality and taste were both excellent. We would thoroughly recommend the Good Fortune if you are holidaying in Croyde.

We were staying in a house in Croyde and wanted Chinese food delivered. There wasn't a lot to choose from! But we found the Good Fortune. Not only do they deliver, but their food is top notch. Food arrived fresh and hot, and pretty much on time too. Considering the amount of food we ordered (nine people!) the service and quality was excellent. Highly recommend the duck rice...delicious! Food wasn't greasy and tasted great. Only slight challenge is it's cash only so be prepared.

Visited this chinese after reading mostly good reviews. Unfortunately I do not agree. Whilst the portions were very large the quality of the food was very poor. The chicken Chow mein was slimy and tasteless, the chips were heavy and dry. The crispy chilli beef...

Staying at Surf village Woolacombe for 4 nights and as we do we have a Chinese Takeaway the last night. Looked at reviews for takeaways in Ilfracombe and did not fancy any of them, looked at Braunton and the Fortune was looking good. Phoned up...

Delivered to our home in the next village of Croyde and we all had a selection of dishes ranging from meat,fish and veggie .Couldnt fault any dish we had just yummy

Food was very nice from here. Why only cash only in this day and age. Get a machine guys as the ATMs are disappearing in Braunton

Stopped here after a 10 mile hike. Food was served quickly despite a large order before us. The Hong Kong duck was so good and tender. A fully loaded house Chow Mein and bbq ribs were also very much enjoyed.

We got given the wrong order and told it was our fault for taking the wrong order and not checking food before we left. No apologies from the owner, just a bad attitude. She was putting blame on us and another customer for not standing...

If you like fresh veggies and not too much salt this is the one for you people. It’s basically like any other Chinese in the country but a good clean fresh one . Duck was cooked really well.

Staying in the area on holiday decided for Chinese takeaway and did not regret it. come to the area at least twice a year so will be going back. the service was good and quick and can’t fault the food also really enjoyed a Chinese for once it wasn’t a plate full of grease and slop so massive thumbs up thanks !!

The two times I have ended up ordering Chinese from this place I have ended up with the worst stomach trouble I’ve ever experienced. BOTH times it has been rice that has been the demise of me and my friends, honestly I haven’t been able to eat anything or leave the house for fear of my undies in at least a day. The Chicken chow Mein seemed to sit well with other people but I highly suggest you steer clear from any fried rice. I’d go to the one around the corner!

Popped in on way home to pick up a takeaway, couldn't fault the food, tasty and plenty of it, reasonably priced as well however, the owners could do with a bit of customer service, the chap behind the counter was miserable with hardly a acknowledgement when I went in and the woman that gave me my takeaway was similarly grumpy. Lucky its just a takeaway so not a big issue really.... Just cheer up a bit.

We've used this chinese takeaway many times since moving to Braunton and its always been quick, efficient and the food is hot and tasty. only drawback is they are cash only.

The chef whips up some mean vegetable bean curd I really recommend it and the staff especially on Monday are fab

Of the two Chinese takeaways in the village I would always recommend this one. Food is always fresh, vibrant and delicious tasting. There Sinapore Fried Noodles are amazing. Run by a young family who are always smiling and give great service

We tried this after reading other reviews while on holiday nearby. We had a takeaway for eight people, costing £60, which we thought was good value and all the dishes were nice. The chicken balls were particularly good and the Kung Po prawns. We had a pint in the pub over the road while waiting for our order to be ready.

Went in for a takeaway and the staff where unfriendly and totally uninterested in my visit. Picked up a menu and made my excuse to come back later (not). If staff and chef are miserable I can only imagine the lack of effort going into the cooking!

The Chicken Curry Is nice. Lots of flavor and the Chicken Is succulent but the chips are AWFUL for what you pay. They look and taste like they are fried again or leftover chips. A little on the expensive side for a Chinese too.

Probamos este lunes para llevar, están cerrados los martes. Tuvimos una cena para dos. Fue muy bueno. Las porciones de sabroso y generoso. El servicio era rápido. Estaban ocupados, pero tuvimos tiempo para una copa rápida en el pub al otro lado de la calle! .

He usado este para llevar algún día y cada vez me han decepcionado con la calidad de la comida, atención al cliente, lo que quieras! Pero hoy fue el peor de todos. Mi padre pidió por teléfono un pato a la pequinesa, crujientes, fideos, bolas de pollo, arroz y platos dulces y x2 y amarga. Cuando llegó a recoger mi orden que esperamos por 2-5 minutos, ten en cuenta que no hay nadie más estaba pidiendo o recoger (puedo ver por qué).

Good take away and quick service... downside no card payments and as in holiday didn't know this until popping in to order luckily had enough cash

I must say the food was excellent - which was a good recovery from the really unhelpful response to not having a copy of the menu (which is not available on-line) - and could so easily have been photographed and sent to me. Anyway - ordered foof by guessing from my view of a std chinese menu - no Chicken satay scewers apart from that all good - food available as promised and very good quality and plenty of it - 7 adults 5 children

We live in Braunton and have ordered from Barnstaple due to poor chinese meals in Braunton but thought we would try here again- Awful sweet n sour balls- undercooked batter. Beef dish better but overall meal disappointing. Seem very rushed.

I visit this take way quite a few time a year, and can honestly say that its very good quality Chinese food at a affordable price. The service and speed of service is very good also. Shame is not a sit down Restaurant.

We have just eaten the most delicious Chinese takeaway food. We phoned the order through, it was ready on time for collection and it was very reasonably priced. The portion sizes were very good and tasted gorgeous! It is a good thing we are here on holiday or we might be tempted very often!Just to add, they do not accept debit or credit cards so pay a visit to the cash point!!!!!

We regularly visit Braunton and part of the ritual is t have a takeaway from Good Fortune. My wife thinks this is the best Chinese takeaway food she has ever tasted. As many other reviews have pointed out, it is best to ring up with your order and collect it at the appropriate time, otherwise the wait seems to very long - you can rush quality is what my 10 year old says.The menu is extensive, including a few unusual items such as rendang and samba.Some of our favourite items include:* Sweet and Sour chicken balls* Mango chicken * Pancake rollsWe will back no doubt be back soon.

Never pick up the phone...had a family meal organised for 20+ and had to go else where...also not the first time struggled to get through!

We are staying in the local caravan park and fancied a Chinese. The menu is extensive and the portions are good with a high proportion of ingredients to sauce.I have had better Chinese meals but not by much.Will be going back again before we go back to bristol.

Best Chinese in North Devon I drive half hour each way to collect my weekly Chinese (even though I have 10+ Chinese takeaways in my own town who would deliver) Amazing flavours and generous portions their honey roasted king prawns and Hong Kong style duck are amazing! We had a incident recently where we were given the wrong order and only realised when we had returned home needless to say we were annoyed and rang up to complain the lady who I believe is the owner was apologetic and cooked all our order correct again and paid our petrol money there and back can't ask for fairer than that!

Stopped here on our way back to Woolacombe. The menu is good and a fair price. The food we ordered was great, would recommend.

I live in Braunton and order Chinese from here about once a month, purely because it's the better one of the two in the village.Can get very busy, with annoyingly misleading lead times as to when food will be ready to collect....I've witnessed several incidents of irate customers waiting beyond what is reasonable (ALWAYS phone your order through, else you will sit in there for an eternity!! Phone orders take priority over walk in custom)Worth a mention....check your order before leaving...several times they have misheard or written down the wrong thing when phoning through. And it's cash only....we're kind of used to that here, but can take visitors by surprise. There is a cashpoint just down the road though.Food is okay though....not the best in the whole world, but not the worst either. Generally not overly greasy or gloopy either.....all in all a good meal

Fantastic selection on the menu,sometimes it is hard to make a decision as to which dishes to choose.In the summer the owner was speaking to us I mentioned I'd love to try a certain dish I was unsure as to whether I would like it ,he very kindly cooked it in addition to our order for us to try on the house.it was delicious and we have made it a family favorite.Yes thier customer service is excellent .We do like that fact thier waiting times are realistic .Delicious dishes from this takeaway, time and time again we have used this chinese ,the quality does not fluctuate even on Saturday nights or bank holidays .We are lucky to have good fortune here in Braunton.

Very disappointing! Hard not to compare,but having had virtually the same menu from the Hot Wok in Woolacombe which was delicious,we tried what Braunton had to offer. Rubbery king prawns in an overly sweet brightly coloured liquid with bits of raw chilli thrown in. Was supposed to be Szechuan king prawns. The sauce of the chicken & beef dishes tasted the same & the chicken bore no resemblance to meat. As for the spring rolls,both vegetarian & Hong Kong style tasted disgusting. I have no idea the contents of either of them!Steer clear of the Good Fortune takeaway & if you can make it to Woolacombe,try the Hot Wok. Good,fresh flavours with king Prawns to die for.

The Mrs. and I live in Braunton but we've never gone to Good Fortune for a take away! We've been missing out all this time! Good price and very well cooked food! I tend to find Chinese takeaway can be super greasy and swimming in watery "sauce" but we didn't get any of that here. The girl on the phone/front desk was very polite and gave us an exact time of when our food would be ready! One thing to note is that they dont take cards so make sure you've got cash handy!

We were staying in Braunton last week and the owners of our bed and breakfast recommended this restaurant to us [ there are two Chinese restaurants in Braunton]We only had a very simple takeaway but it was absolutely delicious and on that basis I would agree with our hosts and recommend Good Fortune to anyone holidaying in the area.
