Good Earth in Elmbridge

Good Earth in esher is over priced and not worth the prices they charge. I used to go Laorient across the road. It has Sadly closed down now but the food was superior. Good earth service was poor the only dish that I would recommend is the pak choi. Everything else is very average. Decent atmosphere poor service.

We went to Good Earth for the first time for my wife's surprise birthday. Everyone had a great time and commented on how good the food was. A special thank you to Sarah who helped me organise everything in advance.

The Go To Chinese within a 15 mile radius. Not cheap mind.

Without doubt the Good Earth is the best restaurant in Esher. Stunning food and decent portions. Top quality ingredients and wonderful flavours. Its expensive but worth it.

Would highly recommend, it was our first time and will definitely return.

Recommended this place, Good Earth Esher, from family, and always wanted to go but fully booked. We struck luck last night and had a booking for 830, came early and they were able to accommodate us 3 half hour early (travelled from Wimbledon) which was great for us. We ordered a selection of starters- the dragon whisker prawns, lamb sticks, and seaweed- all delicious. The crab and corn soup, which is probably the best we have tasted anywhere, so fresh and hot and warming for a cold night. And then for mains we had a selection of egg fried rice, singapore noodles, spicy chicken with lemograss on mushrooms (so delicious and freshly prepared) and the sweet and sour lamb- all exquisite!! Me and my husband commented how fresh and non-stodgy the food was compared to standard chinese food, it definitely rates very highly compared to others, hence their impeccible reputation in Surrey- I now know why! Yes the prices are higher, but do you know what- its 100% worth paying it as you can see the standard and the taste of the food, it speaks for itself. We noticed there were so many takeaway order collections going as well- proving very popular in the area!! We finished off the evening with coconut icecream which was beautiful, rich and creamy, and the complimentary fortune cookies, it was the perfect way to end a brilliant birthday meal. The staff were also so so friendly with all of us, brilliant timely table service and the front of house staff were excellant- especially with our toddler! Really felt at ease in their restaurant. 5 star recommendation all the way! We will be returning customers.

I’ve been a customer of The Good Earth for over 25 years. This restaurant has never failed to deliver impeccable food and service in a very friendly and comfortable environment. Last night was no exception and I’m now looking forward to my next visit later in March

Food is good but expensive. Service not so good. No towels offered before food ( unlike other tables. Told that it was a birthday when booked but unlike other tables nothing happened or was offered. Felt not looked after.

Usual wonderful food, spoilt for choice on varied menu. Their prawns in spiced pineapple juice though is so special and delicious that I can never resist ordering it and tasting other things courtesy of my other half.

We love the Good Earth in Esher , my daughter and I dine there as often as possible we feel safe the staff are amazing and the food is superb a perfect restaurant to spend an evening, cannot get enough of it .

The rest of my party food was very good. I'm gluten free - I was given the list of allergens and found that every single main dish had gluten in it. For such an expensive restaurant, this is very shocking. The waiter said nothing could be altered on the menu. I ended up speaking to the manager who said the only thing they could make me was chicken stir fry with ginger and onion. They refused to make any other dish. We sat down at 2pm and they then informed us that the kitchen was shutting at 3pm. Service was very rushed.

I have been a Good Earth regular since the early 80s, in Knightsbridge. On the downside no scallops or seabass available, both family favourites. Also the hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour, and pale not usual dark colour. The upside was all the rest was great as per usual. With no sea bass we tried a new dish, fish in clay pot, which is now a new favourite. Staff friendly as usual.

Simply incredible food! The best Asian food iv ever had and that’s a big statement. Quality service and relaxing atmosphere. The price is the only slight issue but you certainly pay for what you get. Highly recommend!

As a new years treat, myself, my sons and partner went to the Good Earth for dinner. We don’t live together so we were really looking forward to a delicious meal and a good catch up. We were a little put out when we were seated and then ignored. We had to stop a waiter and ask for some prawn crackers and then again to ask to order food. When the food began to come out it was piecemeal with long gaps between and I urged everyone to start as it was rapidly getting cold. We were surprised when the duck appeared pre-shredded on the table. Normally you are shown the duck which is shredded in front of you. As I say, we were surprised but let it go since they were obviously having problems “backstage”. The meal was very expensive and not particularly wonderful, but we had enjoyed each others company and chalked it up to a bad night for the restaurant. 2 days later I was feeling sick. Really sick. I mentioned this on our group chat and my son said he and his girlfriend were also feeling very ill, and that his girlfriend had actually thrown up during the day.. and then my troubles began. Over the course of the next six hours, I threw up violently eight times. I couldn’t keep water down. I felt like hell. This was apparently mirrored at my older son’s house, where he and his girlfriend were also violently ill and feeling terrible. My younger son was sympathetic was feeling okay… Until the next day when the bout of Good Earth enteritis hit him. Unfortunately, he was at work and had to rush home in between bouts of vomiting. He subsequently contacted the good Earth to let them know this had happened to us. We had compared notes and realised that the only thing all four of us had eaten was the duck and then we remembered it had never been shown to us and that made deeply suspicious. My son contacted the restaurant to let them know that they may have a problem. Whilst the reply was polite, it took no responsibility at all that this could possibly have happened and in fact implied that we were making it up. My son assured him in the return email that it certainly had happened and his only reason for contacting them was so that they could check to make sure it didn’t happen to someone else. Again, he was told that this could not possibly have happened since they source their ingredients from the most reliable suppliers and they are all excellent quality. Whilst I don’t doubt the excellent quality of their raw ingredients, I also know that bad management of those excellent ingredients can still cause illness. I didn’t appreciate the implication that we were grifting for a free meal. I didn’t appreciate the implication that we were liars. I am also deeply concerned for the level of complacency that was shown by the management that this couldn’t possibly have happened in their restaurant. It did. So we won’t be going back to the good Earth. We won’t be raving to our friends about how great it was. We will however urge anyone else going to make sure that they see the duck before it shredded and wish them good luck.

An absolutely lovely dinner had. We took my elderly Mum who found the deep set chairs hard and they brought her something more suitable without asking. Delicious food and attentive staff. Thank you team!

Expensive meal offering poor quality food and cooking execution . Go elsewhere, pay half the price and I’m sure you will have a better eating experience. This used to be a great restaurant, what a shame .

Nicely busy, friendly attentive staff and really good food. More expensive than other Chinese restaurants around but you get what you pay for.

We love going to The Good Earth. It has been quite a while since our last meal there and we were really looking forward to it. However, it was a lunch time reservation and we felt it was all a bit rushed. We were booked in for 1:30 but next time we will book an earlier time.

As always a delicious meal with excellent service. It is an extremely well run, professional restaurant.

Another superb meal at the Good Earth. I have visited this restaurant a few times now as I have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant near where I live in Epsom. Having need to search a bit further afield I found the Good Earth and thankfully what a lovely find. Excellent food, prepared by top class chefs. Beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Have now introduced friends and family to this restaurant and will definitely return. Great staff, professional and friendly. A really wonderful find.

I went twice in person, in advance, to book a table and check booking, to ensure my birthday celebration would be special. On the day I was told the table I had booked was not available and was given another one by the front entrance door, on its own, away from the rest of the restaurant! The waitress insisted that we had to sit there and it was 4 degrees, so extremely cold every time the front entrance was used. The restaurant was busy so the entrance was used frequently. I had to complain several times and was told ‘not to stress’ before we were moved to a corner with peeling paint. Don’t worry if you are white you will be prioritised. I feel very disappointed as this was a special occasion and ruined by the way we were treated. We have come on several occasions in the past and been loyal to Good Earth , recommending it to family and friends. Shame on certain members of your staff ‘Good Earth’

Food and service were exceptional. Full of flavour and a nice variety with the set menu. Good bit of showmanship with the steak being cooked in a cast iron pot at the table amongst other things.

The food was up to the normal quality which is why I love this restaurant but I am assuming there were so few customers because it is so cold in there. We kept our coats on to eat lunch. Will not return unless the weather is warmer. Such a shame, this restaurant has always been a favourite but not until they do something about heating .

About as good (and expensive) as a Cantonese can be. The food here is uncompromising in quality: crispy duck, soups, beef with black beans and a side of Chinese broccoli were all cooked to the highest standard imaginable; Portions were large and the food delivered promptly. Service is charmless, cold but functional. For Cantonese at this level, nothing in the area comes close - hugely recommended.

A very good meal and attentive service from when we arrived to when we left. Yes it is rather expensive but it is the best Chinese restaurant around this area. It was a cold evening and sat by the window you did get an occasional cold draft from the door. No problem for most of the tables. I would go again for a special occasion.

We are very experienced eaters of Chinese cuisine(s) and whilst the food is generally of a very high standard, the portions were very small. The menu itself was limited and came over a formulaeric . A real shame

Been a favourite restaurant of mine for a great many years but after a long absence I've returned to find the taste and food quality has taken a turn for the worst, as well as a huge increase in cost. One thing I always praised about the Good Earth Vs your local takeaway was the meat quality. This time I chewed on unpleasant stringy bits and the taste was mediocre. For example, the chicken in black bean sauce and Kong Po was always top notch but very average this time. I don't feel it was value for money. My wife and I splurged over £100 for a lunch to celebrate a special occasion and this was not worth it.

As always the experience was wonderful. The staff were efficient and welcoming. The food was delicious and Eric, the charming manager makes you feel especially welcome.

Food was fantastic especially the whole duck and chilli chicken and portion sizes good but they do not sell Prosecco which I find astonishing these days, the only sparkling wine they sell us champagne which we aren’t keen on and was very overpriced.

Lovely staff from beginning to end. Very accommodating for all requirements, allergies and ages. Food superb! Only one hitch I managed to avoid getting into the pot, the fresh beef they sizzle in front of you had 2 pieces of capsicum in, but I got them out quick enough. I have allergy to them. Rest of meal was free of them, despite being soooo many delicious dishes. Beef was so tender it melted in the mouth. Everything else was perfect. We requested on booking a seat in the warmest area as elderly person who gets cold - they did this for us with no fuss. Best Chinese restaurant around, well worth a visit. Only slight hitch might be for some, loos are upstairs. 99%

It is scandalously overpriced! It is not good value. £15 for a portion of Pak Choi is fraudulent. And it’s not even a central London restaurant. Delicious food yes, but very poor value for money.

as always food excellent it is just a little pricy and in particular in last 6/9 months. Our son who lives abroad was with us last evening and he felt it had got so pricy since he left the locality 12 months ago.. JFL

What’s happened to our favourite Chinese? 🥲 Hadn’t been for ages and drove to the Wimbledon branch which turned out to be temporarily closed. We then drove to the Esher branch … already shocked to find it was £70 for 2 .. even more expensive than it used to be but the real shock was when we got home. The crispy squid used to be large flat pieces is now small bits of squid and the batter and taste just nowhere near as good. The dragon whisker prawns.. used to be 3 … now just 2. Pork balls and crispy beef were a poor imitation of what we used to have. Has the company been taken over? It’s like they’ve put up the prices and lowered the quality of the meat! Gutted! We were SO looking forward to it…
