Ok it’s time to review New Madarin Chinese Takeaway. 🥡 Always wanted to try this place. Since May 2024 recommended by one of the young autistic female staff members who I met at a step family wedding vows. Forgot her name forgive me. lol she’s lovely! 😻 Anyway moving on to the service it was busy because England were playing a serious final with Spain. My take out time was 1 hour and 20 minutes. And they forgot to say to me we only do cash 💸 # oh dear only had card and had to let one of my neighbours know in a hurry for cash. They should accept card more in future. When I tucked into dinner 🍽️ my I was surprised. It was delicious 😋 I can tell you that. (Probably a recipe of love 🥰 went into it) I had Chicken in Honey Chill and Beef with Tomatoes 🍅 and a memorable foture cookie saying Don’t be Hasty, Prosperity will knock on your door soon. Would I go back to New Madarin that is the question I am going to say……..of course I would. I would go back! Just needs improvement in some areas. ❤️

Restored my faith in Chinese food down south the further north you go the better and better it gets from my experience but this was lovely best I’ve had in my few years living on the south coast had some absolute stinkers of Chinese lol

Ordered last night and it was absolutely fantastic. Had beef with mushrooms and Malaysian chow mien, and sesame prawn toast. Excellent food, very hot and extremely quick delivery. It’s my Go To Chinese takeaway.

For the second time delivery didn’t arrive in the specified time stated on the online order system. Called to see where food was, rude staff couldn’t be less interested. They seemed to think they had an hour to get the order cooked in, not delivered!? 2 stars as food is good, but shocking customer service! I even had to ask for an apology…!

First time I’ve been here since it’s under new management, I won’t be returning. Chew mein was swimming in fat and had a burnt taste Sweet and Sour balls were over cooked and again swimming in fat as was the prawn toast. Never had such an awful takeaway. In hindsight I should have taken it straight back. They only accept cash too, in todays day and age, there’s only one reason for that.

Ordered on line as our usual Chinese takeaway was at least a 2 hr wait for delivery. Wow new mandarin is really good. Piping hot food, good size portions and came with in 1 hr of ordering. Food tasted lovely. Also got a free bottle of coke. Highly recommend and will be using again next time we have a cheeky treat

Would give no stars but it doesnt let you. I am very disappointed in this take away. My parents called them at 6.30pm yesterday 22nd October. They waited an hour an it still wasn't there so they called to be told it will be 20-30 mins. After this time it still wasn't there so they called again to say it still hadn't arrived so cancel it... The person on the end of the phone said ok bye. Very very rude. No apology or anything. I am writing this for them as they cannot

We rarely have a takeaway but when we do we want a real treat. Yesterday after hours of Christmas prep we decided on a set meal for two. It was just what we wanted. Splendid! The sweet and sour chicken was particularly good. Large pieces of chicken covered in a light crispy batter. Good sized portions of everything else. Sometimes after a Chinese I feel disappointed. But not this time. My thanks to the cooks and happy Christmas

So far have been really happy with food from this takeaway, always used another locally but quality had gone down a bit so tried this one and been VERY HAPPY! Tasty food and not too oily.

Really nice food, the salt and pepper ribs and Singapore noodles were the highlight.

The King Prawn curry was average, not a lot of taste and a little gloopy The chips with my husbands meal were dreadful. The delivery was quick but I would not order another takeaway.

Absolutely delicious food. This is now our new preferred Chinese in Lee. Ordered on a Saturday night, only had to wait 15 minutes to collect a large order, absolutely superb! They have many chefs cooking and also offer delivery. Very well priced as well. The food is well packaged, good sized portions, tasty, not greasy, and free items when you spend over a certain amount. The menu is very good, offers so many dishes, it is also a professional looking menu with colour and pictures of the food. Very polite staff, recommend this to all over any other Chinese in the area! As I said, collection of food in 15 minutes!! Not “one hour” that is actually one and a half hours like others near by.

We ordered a meal to be delivered early on a Saturday evening, the first time for us since moving locally. We were so impressed and certainly don’t have to try anywhere else! The time to delivery was very quick and the quality of the food was excellent. Sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style was my favourite; not only was it tasty, but the portion size was generous too. Ordered a takeaway chosen from the comprehensive online menu. The food was ready when I arrived and the service was friendly. Portion sizes were generous and the food was hot and tasty. I will definitely use this takeaway again.

I ordered a takeaway this evening at just after 16:30 and the guy informed me that delivery starts at 5. Much to my delight at 5:10 the delivery arrived!! Wow, this is the first time I have ordered from here and I must say the food was truly delicious and fab portion sizes too. I will definitely recommend and have placed the New Mandarin firmly at the top of my ‘best Chinese near me’ list. Can’t wait to order again.

When given a time this take away NEVER has food ready, always have to wait at least 10/15 minutes longer on top of the 30 minutes already waited. When asked why the response was 'we don't know if you're going to turn up'. Foods bland... give it a miss and go somewhere that respects customers.

The food is good and for that reason I'd recommend. However we always call for collection, we turn up at the time we're told and normally have to wait another 20-30 minutes which is quite frustrating. Would move to another Chinese if there was another decent one close by.

We were in Lee on Solent at the weekend and decided to go out for something to eat, as it was last minute most of the places we had eaten at before were fully booked so we walked down the high street to the Golden Solent which we had walked past many times before.

Sorry to say. A very disappointing £15 worth for two. Will not return .

We have been going here for 10 years despite moving home to further away, however this recent meal was abysmal. The order was wrong missing parts of the dish (even though they were on the receipt) and peppers included despite request not to include them (which they normally manage) amongst other issues. This would be fine if they were willing to fix this issue (and not blame the customer). However, we ended up having to drive back to the shop to be screamed at (literally) whilst trying to resolve the issue. I'm sure no one (especially a customer) likes to be shouted at. The final nail in the coffin would be that the recipes have definitely changed (and not for the better), however if you are of this opinion don't mention it to them as they obviously don't care for the customers opinion. We definitely will not be going here again - you can imagine how the quality and service have fallen to break that loyalty.

I never normally do reviews but this made my angry. Discusting customer service and very disappointed with food. Payed with card and they tried to tell me I had not payed. Tryed charging me 4x, luckily wasn't enough money in my bank to pay for the food 4x. the Chinese woman on reception desk disappeared for over 30 minutes to sort out her mistake, could hear her in the back speaking aggressively in her own language. I would not recommended this Chinese. Would rate 0 if possible I will never be returning again.

Just picked up a takeaway from the Manadarin of special curry and fried rice. It is the worst I've ever tasted just a bunch of vegetables and lumps of bland meat in gravy. No curry flavour at all and will not be going there again.

We went on a Saturday night and we were the only customers in he restaurant....why? The food is fab, the service is first class the pace is spotless and the decor is modern and up to date. Why more people do not use this restaurant is unbelievable as you are missing out.

I've been using Golden Solent for over 2 years since Imperial Garden in Stubbington shut down. Service is always prompt, friendly and professional. Food is delicious. I use this restaurant a lot and have never had a bad experience.

Six of us had a lovely meal at The Golden Solent last night. It was quite being a Sunday, and the service and food could not have been better. Thank you.

Personal acogedor y zona pequeña y acogedora, la comida realmente deliciosa y abundante. Chef necesita renovar su menú, como había 2/3 artículos nos hubiera gustado, pero no estaban disponibles. No llevar muy agradable pasar la noche allí. La comida era excelente, servido caliente y recién preparada con sabores para morirse. Sin duda volvería y amigos. También tienen Llevar. Tiempo de espera no parecía demasiado tiempo.

We went to Lee On Solent to see family friends and found this restaurant in the High Street, ordered crispy duck, spare ribs, lemon chicken and special fried rice, the crispy duck was perfectly cooked, I like it because its not too oily and very crispy outside. Our waitress provided excellent service! We will come back again soon.

We've been eating in this restaurant regularly since it first opened and have never had a disappointing meal. The food is always excellent and the chef will do his best to accommodate any special requests, even if it is not listed on the menu.

Ordered takeaway when it came it was like it had been cooked in Irn bru, awful and both my wife and I have stomach upsets this morning. Just poor food,

Is this how you treat your regulars? We spend so much money with you (order almost every weekend) and tonight felt very let down, okay orders get mixed up, however, it is how you recovery from it that is important (last thing I need on our Wedding Anniversary). When we called back I was treated like it was all my fault, girl a little rude, most unhelpful, and didn't seem to want to do anything to help. I couldn't get a refund because no one knew how to do it, and told I would have to wait an hour if I wanted my now luke warm food replaced, although I had been waiting an hour already. To be honest I wasn't 100% convinced it had not been on someone else's table. The incorrect order we opened, and had sat on our table for a good 20 minutes I suspect would still have been delivered to the intended customer, or are you making them wait an hour for replacement food?

Was told food will 35-40mins, waited just over an hour. When it arrived starter was good apart from the seaweed,looked off color and hardly crispy..went onto get the mains ready. Rice was undercooked, chicken balls soggie & sweet and sauce like running water.

This place used to be the best takeaway and restaurant of its genre in the area, sadly it is now one of the worst. Takeaway on Sunday evening was poor and fairly tasteless.

Has now been 80 minutes since ordering a takeaway from them (initially told it would be 40 mins) I have phoned to ask why the delay to be told they are busy. Quite frankly not my problem. Why tell me one time when clearly they are not able to keep to it. They took my contact number, surely would take much to phone and inform me of such a huge delay...At this point I have gone passed being hungry and it's now 95 minutes since order placed. I used to use this place quite alot but now it is the second time this has happen...THERE WILL NOT BE A THIRD!

Went for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Place almost empty when we arrived but soon filled up. Only about 8 tables to glad we booked.Menu was a bit confusing at first glance but we soon got the hang of it and it offered a great range. Service was a little slow but we weren't in any rush, and when the food arrived it was well worth the wait. The chef came out towards the end of the evening and apologised for the delay which was appreciated. Only 2 on table service, one obviously experienced but one was on his third shift so a lot to learn, but pleasant and polite.Portions were more than ample and we considered really great value for money. Wine was excellent and not too expensive, and we discovered that if you BYO they charge just £5 a bottle corkage. Excellent.Judging from the number of takeaways their takeaway food is also good, but we are yet to try it.We enjoyed our celebration evening at The Golden Solent and will certainly be back.

We arrived at 6.30 to a near empty restaurant and given a choice of 3 set menus with no choice of ordering just a couple of dishes. Menu B offered a bottle of Prosseco or Rose wine when it arrived it was a bottle the size of a small tonic bottle, the meal then took 3 hours of slow disjointed service (this could be the pork or it might be the chicken) there was no finger bowls for any of the finger foods the split sweet and sour and the chicken dish came with a fork which is very difficult to pick up the sauce, the fondue came with no plates and dribbled all over the table the hand towels were stone cold.At the end of the meal I was told to go to a cash point as they did not have a credit card reader working this could have been very embarrassing. As senior manager of a large chain of high end restaurants this is typical of small provincial restaurants which should be doing things a lot better.15 customers all evening and 3 members of staff that's 5 each ! The food was okay however I did see a few corners cut with some of the dishes.

Siamo stati in questo ristorante cinese di ritorno da una giornata stancante e dopo diversi km, un po' a piedi e un po' in macchina!Considerando che la vita commerciale del paese si sviluppa quasi interamente su questa via devo ammettere che questo posticino supera la meda generale dei ristoranti cinesi in italia.Si riesce ad uscire dagli schemi delle solite cose ed assaggiare anche piatti di cucina e non i soliti menu' congelati della stragrande maggioranza dei ristoranti pseudocinesi che si trovano in italia e in molti altri paesi.

This used to be our regular stopping point for a takeaway but then there was a change of ownership and it seemed like the pride in the food disappeared needless to say we've moved of to other options

Food was average, hardly any prawns in the schezuan king prawn but tasted good. Egg fried rice was average. Delivery took 1 hour and 20 minutes. Driver was very polite and apologised for the delay but took ages trying to find the change. Wouldn't say a no go but would definitely be a last resort if chosen again.

Can't believe it! I'm disgusted! First we waited over an hour for it to be delivered. I even phoned to see where it was. Once it got here it was freezing and the rice smelt burnt and tasted awful. I phoned to complain and too stop it happening to some other poor sod tonight and told her I would reheat the curry but I was not happy and straight away was offered a refund after she spoke to the chef. (clearly something wrong) So when the driver turned up with the money I asked him to smell the rice and take it back so they could smell it and I got the most disgusting attitude with him saying nothing was wrong. We refused to take refund because of the way he was acting and he practically stuffed it in my face! AVOID...

Spent an annoying time waiting for service but after that things moved along with some good attention. £1.80 for a soft drink poured from a bottle I heard being opened... Bit steep - but the food (Kung Po To Fu and rice, pictured) was really nice and only £9.80. It was swiftly delivered once ordered. Why was the take-away menu way bigger than the sit-down? Finally, I faced a fee for using a credit for a bill under £15. First time I came across this in Lee.

For a number of years, we have lived in Lee on Solent under the impression that there was no sit-down Chinese restaurant and that the nearest was in Gosport. Only recently, I discovered that the long-established Golden Solent has tables as well as takeaway. It has only a few and the inside is pretty basic with a lot of takeaway hubbub going on in the background. I did not much care for the volume of the in-house music which might have been OK for takeaway only but was rather intrusive for dining in. Service seemed, at first, a little brusque but, to be fair, the chap who served us was pretty busy being, apparently the only person outside the kitchen.The menu was adequate but, initially, the minimum £10 charge, explained in terms of the limited capacity, seemed a little cheeky. However, the prices (except for plain noodles) were not unreasonable and the food, as it turned out, was pretty good. It was fresh, hot and tasty with no excess of MSG. A shared starter plate was very nice. Three main courses were good, the rice perhaps a little under-portioned.Overall, it was a good experience and nice to find one more place to go out in Lee.

A small restaurant providing a comfortable venu for friends and family. Great starters and main meals and good value wines and soft drinks and beers. Take away service is excellent, very quick and reliable. Friendly, efficient service.

Went to The Golden Solent Chinese for our friends Birthday Celebration meal, on a table of six. Greeted by Bobbie and looked after by her throughout the whole evening. I cannot praise this young lady enough!! How she ran the show as front of house, delivering meals to tables, took bookings, looked after the Takeaway element as well as looking after all the guests, is very commendable!! The food itself, is First Class and every dish was very tasty and fragrant, nicely presented and decent portions. The wine was very good and when the Bill was presented, we found it to be very reasonable indeed!I can highly recommend this small, yet, atmospheric Restaurant - especially with young Bobbie! We will definitely book again soon!!

I am a Serious Reviewer, but this place is so underrated it deserves more.My new partner Kate and I were greeted by Bobbie-Lee the Waitress/Front of House/Barmaid all round everything with a Genuine smile, what a Star! The meal was just superb,Hot Plenty of it and genuinely good. My only Gripe was the seating area was a Tad chilly(but I am 63 and it was heading towards zero outside) The Toilet Facilities are 5* plus, makes a change really.Seems to me the staff really work as Team to make this establishment stand out.Quality Take Away Chinese Restaurants are abundant in Gosport/Lee, Quality Sit down Restaurants are Very Rare, Try this one folks, you will not be disappointed..ReallyAgain Quality says it all.

Authentic and delicious food, served with a smile and promptly. Front of house could do with a little polishing, but don't let that spoil the quality of food. A lovely meal out. I would recommend a visit!

A nice "little" chinese restaurant in Lee on the Solent High St, food was average, meaning it could be better, and was missing "something" but I cannot say was. There was a rather annoying "scottish" waitress who was trying to make flippant and funny comments, she actually spoiled the evening... This comment is not meant to put you off the place though, its worth a try but I doubt I will go back.

being in the armed forces i travel round the UK alot and travel all over the world. i have recently moved to Lee On Solent, i cannot believe how good this place is.I love it, my wife loves it and my fur children love it. the staff are freindly and helpfull, the chef will even cme out to your table if you ask and he is not to busy.we have eaten here several times and enjoyed every meal so far I have now made it my personel challenge to eat everything on the menu. i have not been been disapointed yet and i dont think i will be.YOU MUST TRY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

We visited this restuarant for my mothers 80th birthday knees up having heard great things about the food. We were seated by the main door which constantly opened and closed on a freezing cold windy night, resulting in all of our party freezing too. The radiator neart us was not on and when we asked if it could be, we were told that the heating was on a thermostat and if the radiator was not on, it was not cold! As a result , we ate in our coats. They were very short staffed, at one point there was a solitary young women taking ortders, answering the phone , dealing with take aways and taking food to tables. She was helped by a young man when he wasn.t delivering take aways ! We waited 45 minutes to give our order, a further hour for our starter and the same for the main course. In all , we sat at 1900 and left at 2300. The food was OK, the atmosphere took away our appetites, as was the same for other diners. When we complained , we were 'let off ' the service charge! We would not have remained there for this , if not for Mother who is not very mobile. A memorable evening, for all the wrong reasons !

This is s tiny little restaurant that serves absolutely great Chinese food. Whether you are taking away or eating in, the food is always perfect.

The Golden Solent is a Chinese Restaurant and take away, we have used the restaurant for several years and have never been disappointed it is a small friendly restaurant with great Chinese food.

Midweek visit to this restaurant in April and 7 of us had a very enjoyable meal. Would only seat less than 20 people anyway so when 2 couples left we had the place to ourselves. Took a bit of time to get drinks and then starters but waitress was pregnant so no complaints. Excellent food and advertised as being as low on MSG as possible. Variety of dishes normally expected but also Thai and Mongolian. Crispy duck was superb. Cheesy 1980's pop music slightly out of place but quantity of Tsing Tao beer made it fun. Bill for 7 including drinks £ 132

We holiday in Lee twice a year and have only just discovered this restaurant/takeaway. What a gem! The food was restaurant standard. Full of flavour and low in MG. Delivery was 15 mins earlier than the 45 quoted. Price as cheap as other takeaways. We will definitely return and thoroughly recommend this as eat in or take away to anyone else.

We've ordered from here pretty much every week or every other week for the last 2 years - it's been consistently excellent. The food is better than most other chinese's, people are nice and friendly, delivery is rapid (I think only once has it ever taken longer than an hour).We've been to many different chinese restaurants and used many different takeaways...this is not globs-in-goo like many are. Don't know what the negative reviewers here are banging on about...

You're always safe with a set menu takeaway - not from the Golden Solent! 1 hour wait for delivery was the prime annoyance, well that was until the food arrived. What I must have ordered was gristle in gravy, 'chicken' in water with string and chewy fried stuff in acid. If I'd have been given it in the restaurant I'd have walked out but is I was at home I just ate prawn crackers which even these guys can't mess up, had a beer and took the opportunity to warn people off on Trip Advisor. Avoid, it's horrid.

Have dined here on a few occasions and have also had take away food from here....Both excellent, two different menus but all food freshly cooked and the staff are very attentive but not in an intrusive way. The take aways do take 30 45 mins but the wait is worth it. The Crispy Stuffed Chicken Wings as a Thai Starter are to die for a must try when you visit this " Hidden Gem " of a restaurant.

Last week we were entertaining visitors from Portugal who thoroughly enjoyed their meal at the Golden Solent. The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed, the food was very good; hot and attractively-presented. The staff were interested and attentive. Good vfm. Will definitely return.

This is probably one of the best Chinese Restaurants around Hampshire!!!The reception was helpful & pleasant. Allowing us to chose our meal at our own leisure with friendly help close at hand. The menu was vast over 250 items to choose from. All dishes were well presented and cooked to perfection. Friday & Saturday evenings can get very busy.I have also had many takeaways with delivery from 25minutes to over an hour on a Friday & Saturday evenings, but I know they will not let quality suffer for quickness.They also cater for people with food allergies i.e. Gluten \ Dairy etc. Range of Chinese wines and beer also available.Well worth a visit

Speed of delivery - Terrible 30-45 Minutes advised for delivery, after waiting over 1 hour, I telephoned to complain, they advised me they were busy, but the food was on it's way. After 1 hour 30 mins, it still hadn't arrived (from 5 mins away!) so phoned again. Eventually turned up after 1 hour 45 mins.Food Quality - Terrible. Dim sum looked and tasted like it had come from the freezer section of Asda. Main courses were bland.Value for Money - Terrible. £6 per head for Dim sum which consisted of a prawn in filo, a tiny vile tasting crab claw, a small butterfly king prawn and some manky bits of squid and scallops. Main courses were more reasonably priced, but the quality of the ingredients was so poor, I could have created more flavour with a chicken stock cube and some soy sauce. I shall never be using this awful chinese take-away again.
