Excellent service Staff very efficient and friendly Restaurant very, very clean and tidy. Toilet area very clean. OOH the food was excellent, every thing was freshly prepared, branded condiments are used in this restaurant. Highly recommended Will take friends and family again and again. 100 out of 10

Such a disappointing meal which took forever to prepare. Not only did the counter staff seem to overlook our order (which is frustrating when you can literally see the food ready!), the salveloys were cold, the batter was crispy, but fish wasn't hot. Chips again, could have been warmer. Used to be a good spot but we'll not visit again.

First time since takeover.. fish and chips were lovely. Portion size was very good. The staff were the people who always work there,and are lovely.really relieved the standards were as good.

Got a take away on 6 April it was disgusting the chips were rock hard and tasted like a reheat fish not bad this is the second visit that has not been nice

they do an over 6os lunch £ 8,99 fish chips bread, salad, tea this is unbeatable. friendly service, nothing is too much trouble good size portions. a genuine bargain.

Over the years, I have had fish and chips from all around the country... but this is the best I've tasted.

Sitting here as I type this...starving heading to maccies to find something edible. First offering was inedible, jelly like texture and burnt batter, chips not worth a mention. Second time round was fish that was seeping water (frozen??) and after complaining was shouted at over the counter that I had not requested my fish well done and would take further few mins to cook properly. I was under the impression this was not a steak?! My friend had finished their meal in this time. There was no apology. Such a shame I will never be back again after overall service like that! I came here over a month ago and it was amazing!

OMG !!!!! What has happened to our favourite fish and chip shop ? Last couple of times on a Friday night the fish is very dry, batter very oily, chips have lost their high standard, come on George sort it out, all this and so expensive.

Unfortunately the staff seem To ignore the customers in favour of preparing large orders for parties. The queue is diabolical and they don’t seem to care. Maybe they need to go back to ground roots. Recommendations for a new chippy please

Sent my son to get a Friday night meal here but he came back with missing food even though the lady read out his order. So I went down with him to check whether he was charged for the missing items, and although we weren't charged, they fail to apologies and even tried to avoid serving us. All 3 ladies barely smiled. Pretty disappointed overall.

As a company the staff in the office often go to the Here to get lunch . Normally the food is exceptionally good and so the service today however we were very disappointed to get back to the office to find the meal not complete. We order two pieces of cod 3 large chips and a sausage in batter When we got back to the office to give everyone their lunch the sausage in batter was missing, so I phone the restaurant and explained that they hadn’t put in a sausage in batter, only to be told it’s okay you’ve not been charged for it. How is this okay someone has now gone without their lunch because the lady serving although she definitely ordered it because we heard her read out the order to the chef forgot to put it in. your incompetence has left someone without a meal and they seem to think this is acceptable because we was not charge but I have to say it is not acceptable under any circumstances. Extremely disappointed with the service and their attitude

I'm glad I went! The fish was freshly cooked (so expect a short wait) and succulent. It was therefore hot, as were the chips. I even congratulated the proprietor. Praise, indeed.

The Fish and chips we got from here was lovely. We shared a large portion of chips between two as the portion size was very generous to say the least. Will defiantly eat here again if I am ever in the area again.

The haddock I had and the cod that husband enjoyed were perfect as were the plentiful chips. The service was quick and the price was very, very reasonable. The reason why I have not given it an excellent rating was because this restaurant didn't do grilled fish which was disappointing.Everything was clean, hot and tasty.

Nice fresh fish in crispy batter and proper chips. They do a pensioners menu which includes salad, bread and butter and either cod or rock. This also comes with tea or coffee for £6.45. Amazing value. They have revamped the place it's spotless.

The size, quality and taste of the food is unmatched by and other chippy in the area. The staff are great, very helpful and hospitable. Always a good , big que on Friday nights ! You can ring ahead but still have to wait a bit so not a que busting solution . It’s the best fish and chips in Borehamwood and for about a 5/6 mile radius. Well recommended.If Big Brother is on at the studios the orders that come in are epic! I would avoid on those nights! As you are in for a long wait. Overall really good chippy.

The chip shop is both eat in and takeaway and was quite busy on a Friday evening. There were several servers/fryers behind the counter but despite this the service was so slow and at times it looked as thought no-one was actually being served. Despite this the fish and chips were well done and the portion sizes were huge.

This is one of my local fish shops and my preferred. The fish is cooked fresh as are the chips so it doesn’t spend aged being kept warm. The restaurant is within the shop and is always busy. If you can avoid visiting on a Friday , unless you ring and preorder your food as the wait is likely to be fairly long, But worth it. Staff are always friendly and the prices are fair. Pensioners are able to get a discounted meal in the restaurant as well.check which days and times.

brought my mum fish and chips from here as she was moved to a care home nearby, by the time I got it back to her there was a small puddle of grease in the chip paper and I could literally wring the fish out... shocking! Needless to say, I never let her eat it

Love my local Golden Plaice fish & chips. Price is very reasonable. More importantly, always served fresh. It’s a family-run business so there’s a personal touch from the owner, his retired father and his adult kids who help out when not at university. It’s always a friendly atmosphere attracting local residents.

Best fish and chips and the staff are so friendly. If you eat in you get a cup of tea, bread and butter and salad with your meal. It’s always a pleasure to eat in there.

Borehamwood is a busy English tv/film industry town. This restaurant has been around for over 50 years, originally owned by my grandfather. Probably a dozen tables accommodating 30 patrons +/-. Reasonably priced and serving delicious tasting meals. If you're not into fish, burgers are available.

There is a saying; It aint no fun getting old. This restaurant disproves the saying. An OAP meal for under £6 was magnificent. The fish was both large and fresh, the chips good, the tea, she who must be obeyed only drinks builders tea, the tea that can dissolve the spoon, declared it excellent. Been to Whitby, Southwold, Brighton,Walberswick....none of these places match the Golden Plaice in Borehamwood. Best Whitebait, quality cod, huge portions and a great cuppa. Ok decor a bit dated and chairs a bit hard , but the food and service more than make up for that.

We come here weekly if we want a late night snack. It's very good value for money and the food seems tasty and chips not too greasy etc. Most of the staff are quite flexible and will help you even if the place has just closed.

I often get take away from there x they are very friendly and always get your order right. I usually call 30 minutes before I need it and if they Re not too busy then it is waiting for me.
