3 times I've asked for special curry NO PRAWNS as I'm allergic to shellfish Stacey decided to tell me I never asked for no prawns even tho I'm allergic to them and gave me prawns then told me I'm a liar. Rotten restaurant rotten food rotten attitude AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT AT ALL COSTS ITS LEAVING PEOPLE NO WELL

Awful. Absolutely no excuse for making such a simple dish so badly. Plus it was ready in 5 minutes. ?

Staff are great very organised. Food can be a bit of a hit n miss but when it's good it's reaaaaaly good

The worst 'Chinese' I've ever had. I say Chinese, it had no distinct flavour or style. It's the least effort I've seen put in to cook something that is supposedly a commercial dish. Felt completely ripped off and extremely disappointed. Thought I'd give them a chance, considering the other bad reviews. Nope, it's dire...be aware!

Salt & pepper chicken 100%! Can't get it in Glasgow. Very tasty and nice crispy chips.

Ate here years ago. It was a very pleasant place to dine. Visited it yesterday, now looks very down at heel. My meal appeared in less than 3 minutes, rather than the 10 quoted by the server. It was very watery, and seemed to have a very high onion content. Not a lot of flavour. Large chunks of chicken not very pleasant. Pineapple in the dish was very tart. Has to have been the worst Chinese meal I have ever had. Ended up binning it and dining elsewhere.

The cream of Sum yung guy soup was too salty . I enjoyed the number 69 on the menu. Our table had 2 legs longer than the others the pancake rolled . I'll be wanton to go back though .

Group of four had a takeaway on Friday evening.. I opted for a special chow mein. It appeared within minutes of being ordered.. It was plentiful which is the only positive. It was tasteless as was everyone else’s.. Chicken was overcooked and rubbery. One to miss!

The worst food I've ever had. Satay was tough and bland, and chips tasted like they were over a day old. Food was only slightly warm. Couldn't pay me to eat this food

A comprehensive menu, with almost all of the tried and tested favourites. Staff are very friendly and efficient and service is quick. Portions are generous and with plenty of the tastier (and more expensive) ingredients. Flavours are good and not over salted and the dishes are served piping hot. Prices are reasonable and the "specials" and "set menus" represent very good value for money.

Loved the Yung chow fried rice & combination chow mein

Didn't tell us cash only so waited 40 mins until food ready then told us cash only. They then told us 3 nearest bank machines weren't working, had to come back 20 mins later so food was cold and the salt n chilli chips were overcooked, solid and inedible.

Best Chinese in Campbeltown....well it's the only one....but it is quite good.

It was a 45 minute round-trip from where we were staying to the restaurant but we wanted a takeaway. I have an egg allergy so ordered a plain boiled rice. It was only when I got back to the hotel and started eating that I realised they had given me egg-fried rice. I was really poorly. The number one rule of a restaurant should be not to make your customers sick. The place only accepts cash so I (conveniently for them) could not get a refund.

Its the only chineese in cambeltown so not choice but it was not bad

First time 4 years ago had fly come out of fried rice, it has got better food better for sit in meal the decor and heat not good take away good now

Im not local but when i visit friends we always go for a meal in here. We were eating late last time and ended up finishing after closing. We were not hurried at all the staff wanted to make sure we enjoyed our meal first. We will continue to have meals here!

So I'm feeling a little confused, never been to an Italian that doesn't sell pasta? Seemed to only have some funky curry things. An excessive amount of drug users were entering and buying white bags full of stuff and speaking a strange language and leaving, must have been some sort of code. So then I asked for some cutlery and I was given some funky sticks with shapes painted on. Asked for the bill.. Was handed a crispy clamb which told me I find love soon? Was a bit bamboozled think she wanted my number? Overall the food was pretty bangin, still completely confused over the whole situation and if someone could shed light on it, it would be much appreciated.Brian lamond over and out

This is a well frequented Chinese restaurant but the food is hit and miss . There is a particular nasty generic brown sauce that seems to pervade in most dishes . There are good dishes but the decor needs addressing they could do so much better and offer better Chinese food they need to modernise and not take the customer for granted. They are up against some really good food choices in Campbeltown - Chinese food is a favourite of most British people so give us the best of it not what you imagine we like.

Das Restaurant verkauft die Malzeiten auch für TakeAway. Daher stehen viele wartende Kunden im Vorraum und machen den Aufenthalt im Innern des Restaurants ungemütlich. Das Servierpersonal wirkt gehetzt, die Speisekarte ist lang, aber sie wiederholt sich.

I like Chinese style food but our dinner here was very average to poor. The lack of veges eg carrots, beans, peas, broccoli etc was very disappointing. Our sweat and sour pork meat was very dry and overcooked. The chicken on the satay sticks appeared to have been deep fried. I was not expecting fine dining but I would not recommend eating here even though it was busy with take away orders to locals. The two young ladies managing orders were very pleasant and efficient; which was the one highlight

good Chinese place, the interior is really good, it's clean and food is really good. You can also pack your food.

Chicken satay well over cooked & very chewy, chicken chow main very salty & for breast of chicken curry way to bland no taste in it. Certainly wouldnt recommend

The food is always hot, served quickly and good portions. Have been eating here for 15 years and though run down, the food is great.

first, the chicken in the curry i got was so chewy and disgusting that i couldn't eat it, and tasted old. the chips are inconsistently cooked like they've been reheated, some are hard and chewy. onions in curry were so undercooked they were crunchy, almost raw. i dont recommend eating here at all as i got a really upset stomach the two days after eating it. needs a redecoration too, a shame because 10 years ago this was a great Chinese with great food

Lovely inexpensive food I had the 3 course lunch time meal deal for £9 it was gorgeous

Outside you may think this is really dated...don’t be fooled! Inside is clean and comfortable and the food was AMAZING! Portion sizes are huge even with the sides we ordered we struggled to finish the meal. The staff are lovely and they have a steady stream of takeaway customers. Even on a Tuesday this place was busy with eat in and takeaway foodies! Please remember to take cash with you as debit card payments are not taken.

The menu clearly states a set dinner for two people £19 . What is fails to say is that its £19 EACH !!!, .When we went to pay the bill it was £38 !....

I have visited this restaurant over many years when visiting the town. The food is to my liking and the service is good. The restaurant itself though is looking tired and could do with a facelift. My family find it hard to understand my loyalty to it and my visits are becoming more infrequent especially given the competition in the town. Please freshen up.

Was working in Campbeltown for about a year and found this to be a very nice Chinese definitely needs a refurbishment but great food.

Good Chinese! Albeit the only Chinese in town. Recommend the salt and pepper chicken!!

Used this place for years and was always very good. Never luxury decor and always looked like a makeover was necessary but the food always compensated.

Got a take away one night last week which was just ok. We were both very hungry so ate it all but agreed that it could have been better, however perhaps we just choose badly from the menu. The crispy shredded chicken with chilli tasted only of vinegar, it seemed to be doused in it and the sauce for the sweet and sour chicken was very gloopy. However it was extremely busy so obviously it has a good reputation, think we maybe should just choose something different if we go back.

We were almost put off going by the recent reviews, but it's the only Chinese in Kintyre...and actually we found it's not at all bad. Neither the menu nor the décor show any sign of having changed since the 1970s, but that was okay by us; and we were served decently-made Chinese food of the sort we know and love. It's very popular with the local pre-pub crowd - in fact by 8 o'clock on a Saturday night it no longer felt a very family-friendly environment - but if you're in Kintyre and fed up of the touristy and pretentious, give it a go. And remember to get your cash out first!

A nice place and the food was fine. Not outstanding but nice

Food was beautiful, my main was beef sechzuan with fried rice, best I have tasted in my life, my two co workers had curries and also loved them, over all food was great, restraunt was comfortable and warm too, needs some maintenance and maybe to be able to pay by card, don't care though as I have given 5 stars on food alone ☺

Siempre uno de nuestros favoritos cuando vivíamos en Campbeltown. Ha ido cuesta abajo. Necesita una dramática imagen tanto fuera como dentro y la comida estaba por debajo de la media.

Got a breast of chicken fried rice tonight as a take away and the chicken was as tough as anything. Defo wouldn't order it again

Went here one night for a takeaway whilst staying at a campsite. When we got it back the food was still quite hot but the food had not much taste and was very dry. Would have taken it Bach but for the 5 mile drive.

I'm not very sure where to start on writing this review - if you love Cantonese food or if you are looking for an Asian gastronomic delight this is most definitely NOT the place for you.As you first walk in, it's very obvious that the whole interior is badly in need of a major refurbishment. The carpet looks as though it was new in 1985, and unfortunately so does all of the decor. Hand written signs are everywhere declaring that the owners will not take any sort of card....and I do mean any card! Cash is the only way of paying for your meal and in 2016, that's a little poor by any standards.The service was slow and clumsy (some may have called it abrupt) and the time from ordering to serving was average. I ordered chicken curry and fried rice as the menu was not overly elaborate. The curry was tasty but the rice was clearly reheated and tasted somewhat stale at best.Would I go back - probably not. The most disappointing aspect of the Golden Ocean is that it is now the ONLY Chinese restaurant in Campbeltown and if you really want a Chinese meal there are no other alternatives.My personal score is 2 out of 10.

Fast and friendly service although I would say the restaurant needs done up and it needs better cleaners as the seating area had glass that wasn't very clean. The food was ok but I have tasted better.

I have twice eaten in the Golden Ocean Chinese Restaurant, once on a previous visit to Campbeltown and again last week. There is a good selection on the menu and the food is quickly served. This time my rice could have been slightly hotter, but when mixed with the chicken dish, it all evened out to be just right for eating!One thing to watch is that there is a large notice at the door saying that the restaurant does not take credit cards. It thought it was a temporary blip last year, but as it is still there I assume that it is permanent policy. As there are plenty of cash machines in Campbeltown, it is not a major problem!

Went here for lunch as a party of five and I won't be going back. The food was served to each individual a different times and each persons was lukewarm. A spoiled lunch outing, the only decent thing was the coffee at the end of the meal. You are better off looking elsewhere as this place has had its day both food & decor wise.

This restaurant needs to up its presentation and meals especially the quality of the food for the cost involved.

We had a meal here recently one Saturday evening. Our meal was fine, but the couple at the next table were not so lucky. It is a very popular take-away, long queues for food. Our meal was tasty enough. Some of the starters were a bit cool, and it would have been nice to have a dip with them, but they were fine. Main courses were fine too.The couple at the next table were not so lucky. Their main meals arrived before their starter.Later, when their mains returned one was cold. There was a mistake with their drinks too. The lady found the toilet in a bad state. So your meal might be fine, or might be awful. Good luck!

You could walk past and not know this restaurant existed if it weren't for a steady stream of people collecting takeaways. The staff are very friendly and we enjoyed the food, even if it's not quite up to the standard of chinese restaurants in Glasgow. The interior is quite old fashioned but the whole place is clean and comfortable.

We arrived to get the ferry to Ballycastle the next morning and needed some good food. The food here was not bad and all in all very tasty. Service was excellent and staff very welcoming and friendly.It is clearly very popular with the locals as the stream of take out orders and pickups was constant.We dined early but we're soon joined by others.A slightly strange aroma was a little off putting.Overall I would return.

Been going up and down to Campbeltown since 1978 and the wee Golden Ocean has hardly changed over the years. Still has the booth type table and chairs when I first used it in 78 but service is always met with a smile and the food is average compared to city Chinese cuisine.

This restaurant was recommended and decdided to try it again. Big mistake. While service was prompt and reasonably friendly the same cannot be said about the food. Won Ton Soup had a layer of grease on top whilst the wontons were undercooked mush. The chicken curry was not much better. Again the chicken was fine but the onions (of which there were plenty) were practically raw. The curry sauce which was the colour of a beef gravy was lumpy and not properly cooked out. The also will not take card payments and were not happy when I asked for a receipt. The cash is put into an ancient till which cannot ring up. Wonder why?

Visited on a Monday night, the décor and music are terrible and the guy that served us clearly didn't want any customers that night! Busy for takeaways abut the same staff do both so you just have to wait...and wait...and wait! Stick to takeaway service..we couldn't wait to get out of there!

Excellent Chinese food - the best in Campbeltown, if not the west of Scotland. It's been a staple of my placement here. The third or fourth 12-hour shift in the hospital of the week often leads to laziness in the kitchen, so a take away from Golden Ocean has been the alternative. And what an alternative! The food is quickly prepared, but really tasty. Doesn't seem to be cheap meat they use, as is often the case with fast food outlets. They waiters are very friendly and the menu has loads of choice. Recommended!

Despite being told it was a very good restaurant, I found the food uninspiring and the surroundings dull and badly in need of upgrading. Ths restaurant seems to do more carry-outs than have sit-in customers on the night I visited. I had soup and chow mein. The soup was served with uncooked vegetables and the chow mein was tasteless so they put a ladleful of gravy over the top, not my idea of Chinese cuisine. Glassware was not clean and, so typical of many of these restaurants the card machine was not working which they only told me after I received the bill.

Been going here for years. Love the satay chicken from here best I've come across from any Chinese. Usually get carry out, but when I've gone in for a meal the service is quick and the food is great for the price too. Overall top place to go in Campbeltown.

Visit this restaurant about once a month for a carry out the sweet and sour chicken hong kong style,chicken chow mein and kung po chicken are always of good quality .The prices are reasonable and on a Saturday they open at 4.30pm .Well worth a visit if you like Chinese food

Been going here for around 10 years and I've always found the food to be excellent, the atmosphere fantastic and the service unquestionably brilliant. I only have two criticisms, sometimes the chips seem recooked and I wish so badly that they delivered
