Stopped here on a whim for morning coffee, and whilst in the bar ordering drinks, we enquired about 'cake'. The lady was very helpful and said she has brownies or carrot cake. We opted for brownies. Our friends opted for a sandwich. Coffee and tea came out first, followed by the sandwiches, which looked as exciting as a wet weekend. The coffee was actually very nice, but we had almost drunk it when it when the brownies arrived, which we thought a but odd. So the brownies went from being a 'cake' to being presented neatly in a bowl, warmed, drizzled with chocolate sauce, and topped with a scoop of ice cream. What am I moaning at you might ask yourself!? When I paid, I nearly passed out hearing the lady say £20 for 2 x flat whites and 2 x brownies!!! When telling customers you have 'cake', you might want to explain this is actually a 'dessert' and at £7 each are severly overpriced. Would we return? Absolutely not. Would we recommend? Absolutely not.

We stayed 2 nights with breakfast and ate dinner both nights too. The hotel to the side of the pub is very much set up for business events and quite dated, but the rooms were immaculate, clean, comfortable and peaceful. Breakfast was a selection of cereals and whatever you wanted from a full cooked english breakfast menu - Dinner was great both nights with typical pub food menu. what I love about this pub is the family feeling, you can see how hard everyone works to stay afloat in this terrible market where village pubs are closing all the time. The pub has huge character with original wattle and daub walls displayed dating back over 400years and I hope it continues for another 400years. Staff were lovely, pub is friendly and I would definitely come back here over a hotel chain - huge thanks for a great couple of days.

Overall quite disappointed with this 'Hotel'. From my arrival to departure there were problems. 1) A small thing, but nonetheless annoying. Upon arrival, signs for reception directed me to a locked door. If it wasn't for two helpful people sat nearby I wouldn't have known to go to the bar to check in. 2) The room itself. I made the mistake of paying for the novelty of a four-poster bed room. I don't know how but their own pictures of the room seem overly flattering. I'll add my own, and you'll see that the bed is way too big for the room. Also the mattress is a 4-5inch thick, uncomfortable springy old thing. I found a layer of dust on top of the cupboard and the TV was the sort that didn't even have a built in channel guide. Also there aren't any plug extensions near the bed side, so bring an extension. 3) Food. See my attached pictures. The fish looks good, but was very soggy. Also, why so few mushy peas? And the tartar sauce, at least fill the Ramekin! The breakfast, while tasty, was only really half a breakfast. It all gives the impression that food is quite scarce in this area of the country or something. For the price I paid, and the Google rating, I really expected better.

My wife and I dropped in for a spot of lunch on the off chance and were delighted we did. After a warm greeting we sat down in this lovely old pub and had a look at the menu. Thankfully there were not an overwhelming amount of choices but what was offered sounded lovely….. it was. We both chose the Steak Pie with beef gravy chips and peas for around £18. What arrived was by far the best beef steak pie either of us have eaten in many years. It was packed to the rafters with top notch tasty melt in the mouth beef. The chips had been (at least) twice cooked being crunchy, fluffy and all round delicious. A generous amount of fabulous beef gravy and peas finished the dish. On speaking to the owner she assured us the pies were made and cooked fresh by the chef. The food was so good we booked for tomorrow’s Sunday lunch carvery.

Lovely people and lovely pub. My only gripe and I have this with many pubs serving vegetarian food is that there was only 1 choice on the menu and again another common gripe is that you get no side salad to accompany your meal. I had the Gnocchi, which was lovely but looked very bland. More colour and excitement with added salad would have been brilliant. I'm a vegetarian I just love vegetables!!!

Great location, easy access, and quiet area. The breakfast was a great choice of cooked breakfast or continental. The room was nice. However, the 4 poster bed I felt was too big for the room. There was only 1 very uncomfortable wooden chair to sit on, and the bed was very high, limiting viewing of the tv it also made the room very dark and dated. The other room we passed when leaving with normal beds was bigger, and tbh more inviting. I think the bed could be moved to another hotel room and would improve the comfort and appearance.

We were told that breakfast was at 8am. However, we went to breakfast just after 9 am and it was all locked up. The owner came out and said that breakfast was finished. The kitchen closed at 9am. I asked if we could just have cereals and fruit. The owner said no. He said that we should have read the paperwork, which is in the room. We had paid for breakfast. We asked if he could give our breakfast money back. He said. No money back. I felt like crying. I have never stayed at a hotel that has such a small window for breakfast. It was supposed to be a relaxing break. Disgusting way to treat the customers.

Went for Sunday lunch. Alarm bells started ringing as soon as we pulled up. There was only 1 car in the car park. Walked in to a pub with only 2 people in ,On what should have been a busy time. Really disappointed with our meals ,cheep frozen potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and stuffing. Was definitely not worth the money we paid. A bottle of wine which you could get from Tesco for £5 was £25 and a large coke was £6.40. I nearly choked. Would definitely Not recommend it and definitely won't be going back . Very overpriced no wonder it was empty and the only put local we could get a table in.

Hi I am Edd Kimber a social media food critique influencer last friday i stopped off at the golden lion after a long roadtrip and expected to be met with good food, hygiene and overall good vibes after seeing reviews, however i was appualed to find my steak medium despite requesting rare along with a side of soggy chips and a rather over sweet beverage i also must state the layout was quite frankly shocking and i found it difficult to even navigate to a simple thing like the toilet. the seats were worn and lumpy the colour scheme is distasteful and i must recommend u do not visit the overrated pub/hotel unless u wish to waste money thankyou.

I must caution those with food allergies. Despite my efforts to ensure a safe meal by informing and ensuring I was served gluten-free dishes, I experienced gluten exposure (poisoning). Even more concerning, my attempts to communicate with the restaurant regarding this grave matter were met with silence from the manager and dismissive staff. In the interest of public safety, I took the step of reporting the incident to the Borough Council to address potential food safety concerns. Following the investigation the food hygiene rating has been downgraded to 3 (from a 5). Can only hope that lessons have been learned, suspect not as the completely insincere management appear to lay the blame with the customer.

We had dinner here tonight not having visited for a couple of years. The last time we came we felt that prices had crept up too far for a village pub and restaurant, albeit a good one. Tina had the tuna steak and it came just as she wanted it, namely seared for a few seconds on each side and raw in the middle. I had the homemade steak pie with chips and peas- it came with extra gravy and was delicious. I also drank the American pale ale which was hoppy with a nice, sharp citrus tang. Could have drank a lot more of that but was driving.

Meeting up with our friends and children, we were very disappointed having read positive reviews. Didn’t start well as we had requested two high chairs when we booked. Having chased 3 times and been told it was on the way, we were disappointed to be then told they didn’t have anymore available. Not ideal with an 18 month old and a 2 year old. Three of us booked carvery but weren’t told to go up when we were ready. The carvery was ok - carrots over boiled, Yorkshire’s dry etc.. The children’s carvery seemed very expensive for what it is and in comparison to the other children’s meals. One of us booked poached salmon salad which wasn’t worth the price and certainly nothing special. Waitress wasn’t bad just not sure how long she had been doing the job - wasn’t overly hospitable or proactive, and managed the whole high chair incident with no apology. All in all disappointing having read the positive reviews.

Wifi was fast , shower was good. The food and beer in the pub was first class as was the breakfast. If I'm ever training again in rugby I'll be going back. Lovely stay and I stay in a lot of hotels with my job, so I know a good hotel when I see one.

I live reasonably close to this place so I should use it regularly but the last time I came just for a drink and something to eat I remember it being stuffy and slow. Poor selection of beers and very miserable staff. Yep back again same poor beers flat as a pancake, miserable and very slow staff. Hottest day of the year not enough tables outside but have an outside hatch. Did not eat so can't comment on the food. No customer service skills. Left drink on table and gave it away so someone could sit. Last time I ever come here sorry not for me. Could be so much better!

My family and I met here for a mothers day sunday lunch having been just before Christmas. The best carvery in the land!!! service good and large selection of wines. Excellent service. Waited a little while past our booking time but this was to be expected on such a busy Sunday. I only wish I lived closer so I could go every week.

Stayed here for one night and I am glad that was it. My company had book a standard room which was no bigger than a broom cupboard. The bathroom had the remains of a power shower which was missing jets and leaked a torrent of water when turned on.The breakfast was not as advertised and certainly describe it as a full english with no beans, mushroom or tomatoes was a let down then to find a selection of juices and milk on the top of a manky tablecloth was a disgrace. The staff however were very friendly.Needs some TLC

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. We both had the Christmas menu, and just as I was thinking it would be nice to have more gravy the waitress came up and asked if I'd like some!

Lovely friendly landlord, the waiter was great, very attentive but not over the top, my husband and friends had lovely food but I had the risotto, it was completely tasteless and very disappointing, I did mention it to the waiter but he didn't appear bothered or apologetic which made me feel that my view was not going to be taken on board, I was trying to be constructive not negative. But besides that it was all very nice, not the greatest of menu choices but not too bad

Imagine a deep exhaling of breath as this sorry tale begins. My wife booked a Saturday night table for 13 guests as a surprise birthday party for her mother, based on the generally positive reviews that The Golden Lion has received. Things didn't exactly get off on a positive note when the manager (or landlord, or barman, or whatever his actual role was - let's just call him the manager for the attribution of blame here) argued that we'd booked for 7.30pm rather than 7pm, leaving us cramped in a tiny waiting area near the bar. We'd booked for 7pm. I was sat next to my wife when she made the booking call two weeks previously.Okay, minor mix-up, totally forgivable. We were eventually told our table was ready (told, that is; not shown to or seated at - just merely pointed in its general direction). Our waitress took the starters order efficiently enough, although we had to ask three times for some water on our table. Starters arrived (forty minutes after seating) and those that partook seemed happy enough with their food.Things took a turn for the unfortunate when the mains arrived. Sure enough, everyone's meals were delivered - except for my order of a burger. After everyone else began tucking into their food, I remained stoically unfed and unserved. Eventually, a waitress - not the one who took the order - came over to explain (not apologise, though) there was a mix-up and they were just cooking my food now.Keep in mind we'd been waiting an extra 30 minutes since starters to receive mains, and that the serving sizes weren't so grand that anyone in my extended family was going to struggle to voraciously finish their plate. So after another 10 minutes of waiting for my own food, I cancelled the order. Firstly, I didn't want to hold people up by still eating my dinner when everyone else has finished; secondly, I don't like people watching me eat at the best of times - and being the only one in a large party to not have even begun their meal would be pretty embarrassing. Now here's the kicker - the staff, and this manager fella behind the bar - were less than apologetic. Not so much as an utterance of a sorry, let alone any offer to comp part of the meal for the inconvenience (and it WAS an inconvenience, as although most of our family are local, my wife and I had made a 150 mile round-trip for the occasion). In fact, the manager was deeply sarcastic and pretty rude about the whole thing, even going as far as to try and charge us for a meal that never arrived. That isn't a glistening example of good customer service, and that was reflected by our table in the non-existent tip. I'm usually an advocate for everybody tipping big, but today was a serious exception to my own rule. The general consensus on the food - after all, I couldn't give you my own opinion as I never received any - was mixed. Some appetites were sated; some were not. I know my better half wasn't keen on her pork belly and spinach, which was absolutely drowned in garlic and came with some seriously dried-out mashed potatoes.Perhaps our experience isn't representative of The Golden Lion. The other reviews certainly suggest not. Yet I can only write about my own experience, and as such it was a terrible one. Slow service, rude staff, average food. Not recommended.

Looking for a restaurant that I had never before visited I came across The Golden Lion at Easenhall. This discovery came via Trip Advisor. The pleasant experience of making a telephone booking augured well for the actual visit. As soon as we walked in on a foggy Halloween it was clear that customers are valued: the radiant smile from the lady on reception said it all. As were shown to our table with friendliness we felt that we were never going to be rushed. Now for the meal! I started with pulled pork and breaded black pudding, a new one for me and it was stunning. The pork was tender, delicate and flavoursome. My companion declared her rarebit as exceptional. Both starters were exquisitely presented.I have lots of steak over the years but the sirloin that I had at the Golden Lion was the best I have ever had. Locally sourced, it was tender, juicy and tasty and it was complemented by a beautiful French butter and garlic sauce. The home-made chips were to die for! My companion’s mushroom risotto was superb and although I would never actually order such a dish it looked and tasted so good that I would certainly have this on another visit. We were spoiled for choice for dessert especially when the server described each offering so graphically. My companion’s toffee and chocolate fudge cake was a triumph, perfectly proportioned and presented with flair. My chocolate and cherry cheesecake was a masterpiece. I have never tasted such a wonderful cheesecake. It was a case of slicing through layers of divine chocolate and then savouring an aftertaste that was powerful yet subtle. As for the service well it was perfection. We learned that the same family has had this hostelry for a hundred years so it really is a labour of love. The proprietors obviously take immense pride in all that they do. The service is gracious, friendly, efficient and a lesson to others in how to do it. The Golden Lion is set way back from any main road tucked away in a small village. It must thrive on its reputation. Have I found the best restaurant of its kind in the country? I intend to try it again soon for confirmation!

Recently, in October, I visited The Golden Lion at Easenhall with my Sister and our Father for Sunday Lunch. We all agreed we had an excellent meal. The pub is a great venue to visit and they do have a great menu throughout the week, and for Sunday lunch also. Usually, on a Sunday they offer roast beef and roast turkey with an array of different vegetables to accompany the meal. They also offer a Gluten free option which both my Sister and my Father require.

I stayed here for a period of one night while on business in the area. The pub/hotel is located in a lovely little village which is a short drive from Coventry, the car park is massive and the Golden Lion is really easy to find. Check in was very pleasant, the woman on reception was very nice and chatty. She even helped me find a walk around the area as I had a bit of time to kill. The room was spacious with a nice bathroom, a king size bed, bottled water and biscuits. There was a little storage heater as no radiators however this provided a nice heat. The only complaint is the pillows were awful so didn't have the best sleep.Went for an evening meal in the pub and this is only reason it doesn't score an excellent review as the service was very slow. We sat down for 8 and didn't finish until 10:15. However the steak pie followed by cheesecake was LUSH so maybe was worth the wait. Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere was nice too. Not the cheapest for food though but worth it.Breakfast in the morning was lovely too, however not the biggest potions.Overall I would happily stay here again and I was impressed.

Was a problem when I tried to change my room to one with breakfast on the booking.com app went on my booking but somehow it booked my a room for that evening! It says on the front page free cancellation but when u read further only till 9am on day of arrival but was still on there even though I booked after this time so should be removed or something to let u know u will be charged. I noticed a few hours later and the manager didn't charge me and couldn't have been move accommodating. They made us a bacon sarnie to go in the morning and let me check out late at no extra charge. Food was good reasonable tasty not big plate full but if that's want u want go to the harvester. We had strayed and main and was very full. Room was comfy and would highly recommend you to anyone and would definitely stay if I was around this area again the people and the staff were very helpful

Lovely Lounge. We've been to several and this is one of the best. Generous portions, and friendly staff. Only lost a point food as the cabbage was tough and wasn't pickled. (Buddha Bowl) Everything else, spot on.😊

A FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE This place is tucked in a fast growing area of Houlton, just outside of Rugby. Almost an Unassuming place until you walk in, you are greeted by not by Staff but a FAMILY and at the elm there’s GARY! The staff buzz around constantly and you get the feeling of really being in a home with lots of brothers and sisters making sure everything is going fin! Then you come to the Food! Oh Yes! Now we’re talking is of very high standards by any definition, and from the INVISIBLES, from the kitchen to the front I can only use the term of: IMPECCABLE! From a very nice and appetising menu to the SUNDAY ROAST everything comes to you satisfying all your taste buds from your eyes to your belly! With a very reasonable price the TUNING FORK is a place to visit and keep in your diary for future visits, oh and don’t forget to book early to avoid lengthy waits because is becoming very popular by way of voice. A true treasure trove for the FOOD LOVERS! ENJOY!
