Golden House in St Edmundsbury

Sweet and sour sauce not good. It's a shame everything else was great but I used to love ordering sweet and sour prawn balls but at some point they change the recipe and this source is just sweet with no sour. Please update the recipe for this sweet and sour sauce and I can come back and update my review.

Awful experience. Food was half an hour late, the driver was rude and apparently attempted to deliver “twice” to the address given. Wrong - we have been home the whole time waiting on food (2 adults and our 5 year old who was very hungry). The manager refused a refund DESPITE the fact when our food did finally arrive it was cold and the tubs were cracked with the food leaking out. Bad service and bad food, will not be coming here again. To make it clear - very rude and arrogant driver. Lied about “ringing the buzzer” and hung up the phone on us

Ordered a takeaway driver was too incompetent to deliver to my address due to being a lazy spoken to like absolute dirt 2 hours late food was cold also refused a refund and continued to blame myself and my partner for not answering our door don’t see how that works considering we have cameras monitoring out property

Food here used to be top tier but in the last year or so it’s definitely dropped in standard 🤷‍♂️ in a sector that pretty much is the same throughout taste and freshness is massive and this place is no longer standing out for me. I’ve had my final time being disappointed from golden house I’ve given them enough chances.

Absolutely awful - I had a delivery. The food was so bad, I drove up there myself and took it back!

Had my first meal from this place tonight. It was really tasty. We ordered a variety of dishes and they were all well cooked, not over cooked. My standard for a Chinese of the shredded chilli crispy beef and this was the best I have had in Suffolk, after 13 years of experimenting.

So delicious I always order here when we have Chinese and wouldn't go anywhere else, the staff are helpful and friendly delivery drivers

Lovely Chinese. Ordered my favourite of roast duck in plum sauce, plain chow mein and some prawn dumplings. Quick delivery and super tasty food, thank you 😊 the only downside though, after comparing with all other Chinese in town, it is the priciest one of all

Used to really like this place but the last 2 deliveries gave not met expectations...tonight we were told 35 mins for delivery after an hour I rang to see where it was, to be fair the lady who answered the phone was pleasant and told us it was on its way. 10 mins later it arrived.. the old oriental delivery man tooted his horn as he pulled up then bashed the door glass with his car keys and left the takeaway on the door step, I opened the door as he was walking back to his car, no good evening no enjoy your meal just a grumpy look. Maybe time to take our business elsewhere

Food is lovely but one member of staff was rude and had a nasty attitude to her the phone when taking card payment from myself.

Every time I order the food, the delivery guy always leave the food on the floor and leave! It’s rude!

Best Chinese around by far! We have used Golden house for a few years now. The food always tastes amazing, the delivery is always very quick. Friendly staff. Wouldn’t go anywhere else. Highly recommend

I’m slowly trying out a variety of their items. Recently ordered delivery of fried prawns appetizer, beef and broccoli (which I really enjoyed), and tangy and spicy chicken (can’t recall the actual name)... It came with shrimp crackers. I totally suggest this place for Chinese. PS: I’m trying very hard not to compare Chinese food here to NY/NJ chinese food and give this area a chance haha

Shouted down the phone they where to busy to talk to us and ending the phone after they took the money out of our account and we had a email saying our order was placed.

Best Chinese in Bury very friendly staff tasty meals unfortunately today let down usually they are good we went there at 6 o clock it was closed even the website says it's open from 4 very disappointed.

The best in Bury st Edmund's. The service and food from the Golden House is amazing. The delivery drivers are always so polite. I would highly recommend. 10 out of 10.

We've been using another takeaway in Bury for years but food has gotten worse and worse so this time we decided to try somewhere different. It was delivered on time and was without doubt the best chinese takeaway food we have had for years. I thought it was a bit pricey but if they can deliver food this good repeatedly then it's well worth the extra few quid.

Good meals and have used them for years, but as with all foods, they're not to everyone's taste. Definitely worth a try.

After calling 7 Chinese takeaway's in town, this was the only one able to offer me gluten free options, for that alone 10/10

Ordered a Chinese last night for me and my children and partner. They delivered to someone else address to tell me I had to go collect it. Well I took it back got a full refund and went elsewhere. They are rude and disrespectful. Will never be ordering from there again!!!!! GOLDEN HOUSE

Stone cold when it arrived at hotel. Three most of it away

I know last night was busy, but having ordered at 5pm, I received an email confirming my order but nothing arrived at all ! Unable to contact by phone because permanentl engaged. Very dissappointed and now concerned cannot trust them to deliver ever again ! Unsure how to get a refund as nothing on their website to show how they deal with complaints or missed orders. Will need to refer to Trading standards for investigations.

I do not recommend. Ordered food at 19:10. They close at 23:00 and still no food. It showed that our order is cooking for hours and fully paid. Not happy!

We ordered a set meal and some extras, we swapped one dish out, which wasn't a problem. Food was hot and delicious. Delivered for a set time and was on time. Lady who took order was polite and accommodating with swapping the dish. Loads of food, would've fed more than 4,we actually have lefts overs... Which is unusual! LOL! Will be using time and time again. Thank you

Just moved to the area, really struggled to fined a good takeaway but everything we have ordered from here has been amazing, the mixed balls are the best I've ever had.

Food was delicious, well cooked, hot and big portions. Would definitely recommend. Delivery was fast.

Ordered 2 curries and long pot of rice.. They didn't put rice on the system so when we rang up she said "oh well we can't do anything about it" cuz apparently it takes 40 minutes to cook rice... 40 minutes my arse. Will not be coming here again.

Bit dissapointed with the food when its delivered, beef curry mainly onion, beef chow mein mainly noodles, egg fried ok, Ribs still the best. Having had my moan the food was still the best Chinese in Bury.

Always quick yummy, they do deliveries. Special house chow mein is a favourite. Small store front, waiting area could use an update

We have ordered many times from this Chinese take away in the past few years. There are lots to choice from the menu, food are always hot and in generous portion. We particularly liked the fried Singapore noddles, Roasted duck and Prawn in ginger and spring onion, all delicious. Front desk lady is very nice and friendly.

This restaurant has been here for many years and has a very good reputation. There are many choices of dishes, food is delicious, and the prices is good too. I Enjoy the food very much, as well as my family and friends. Many friends have become frequent customer of this restaurant. Very much recommended !

Been using the Golden House since we moved to Bury January 2017 Always a good standard of food at a good Price Fon on the front counter is brilliant and always pleased to see you and appreciates the custom I use it twice a week and never had a bad meal or bad service. Always consistent and always very good

Walked in as they were closing just before 23:30 and they served me :) spicy king prawns were excellent, chow mein was a little too dry but its in Bury and serving food late so that's great

Great food except for the crispy seaweed which is plain no fish powder which is traditional and kind of makes the stir fried cabbage taste more seafood like but hey cannot have it all I guess we'll there at least 😊

They ALWAYS forget something on our order and then when we try to call they never answer!! Very disappointing!

Been using this place for years. We order as usual for a home delivery. After an hour I phoned to ask if the food was coming...to be told that I didn't order!! I must of ordered elsewhere!!! When I said no I didn't, I was called a liar and had the phone put down on me!! I will never give them my custom again. Golden valley for us now.

Hard to park if you are driving to pick up a take away. Slightly overcooked food.

Me and my partner were not sure at first as our usual chinese takeaway was closed. Really glad we tried it. I had plain chow mein and vegetable spring rolls, my partner had the chicken rice and chicken balls. It was hot, delicious and arrived quickly, with a friendly service. Will be making this our regular takeaway service.
