Golden Dragon in West Dorset

Don’t normally use this Chinese but due to fire at the other local Chinese we took the chance!! Not at all disappointed was lovely, enjoyed all we had. Will return

With my ‘go to ‘ Chinese takeaway K.Yuen currently closed due to a fire, it was with some trepidation that I ordered from The Golden Dragon. I had used them just once before, over 10 years ago , and I recall it was one of the worst Chinese meals I have ever had ! Having read some reviews I feared I may be in for a similar disappointing visit. But no ! Kung Po chicken, Pork Chinese style and pancake rolls ( you get 2 in each portion) were all very good. Hot and tasty, good sized portions. The lady in the shop was lovely too. Recommended. If you’ve had a less than satisfactory visit in the past, I suggest you give them another go.

Sorry, but this isn't a very nice take-away. Egg fried rice was bland, everything over salted, ribs very scarce on meat, sweet & sour sauce lacked flavour. One good thing I can say is that I wasn't waiting long for the food.

Ordered a wide variety of dishes for a group of 6 people, every dish was poor. The crispy chilli beef was nigh on inedible, the 1/2 peking duck came as a container of crumbled rubbery duck skin, no meat to be found. I could continue to list every dish, but to sum it up… I won’t be ordering again, a waste of £130!!

Blander than bland! I’ve never in my life experienced such a terrible plate of food…I would say, chef taste your food before serving, but this is no chef! Awful, sorry but you need to sort it out, waste of my “cash only” money.

Tasteless but friendly staff. As said by many others this place is declining with every visit. Its my new local, I would usually go to the other Chinese but I often simply can't be bothered to walk up there when this is opposite my house. However, I will be doing the walk from now on as the other Chinese is just so so good.

Visiting the area and ordered for a family seven. Friendly staff, prompt preparation and fantastic food. Would definitely have frequently if I was a local.

We purchased a couple of dishes. Personally I had special for rice, curry sauce and chips switch off. All voice was so dry. It ended up in the bin. Also the chips I’ve been reheated so many times it was like eating a bit of rubber for curry sauce and more pepper then my pepper pot at home. The food was absolutely disgusting and not worth the money. Certainly would never recommend this establishment and never eat with them again

The quality is certainly on the decline. Salt and Pepper chicken with no taste at all bar a rather strange almost chemical one that was very unpleasant. House fried rice that was, again, utterly tasteless and a barbecue sauce I am convinced had been watered down as all I could taste was water in it and no barbecue flavour whatsoever. BBQ ribs were disgusting, cold and chewy. The saving grace were the excellent chicken balls which were hot, crunchy batter and with tasty chicken inside. But the rest? Not worth the increasingly expensive cost.

We have had food here before been lovely and I am not suggesting what we are about to eat is anything but that. But, today the lady was rude, unhelpful, disrespectful and if I had not all ready paid CASH and with NO RECEIPT for my purchase I would of given it back. How dare you treat customers this way. You spoke to everyone else with respect. For this reason you have lost the custom of your local trade.

On holiday and staying at Eype. Phoned and placed order for collection at 8pm. They do not deliver. Called there at 8pm - all ready for me. Food was still hot after the short drive back. Thoroughly enjoyable meal (crispy duck, S & S chicken balls, shrimp chow mein, spare ribs and egg fried rice). Very tasty- highly recommended. only thing I would not do again is egg fried rice - nothing wrong just too much food!!

Lots of long hairs found in chicken chow mein. Enough to put anyone off. Luckily on holiday so it doesn’t really bother me but having a dog I hovered near the door and didn’t want to bring him in and no effort to accommodate as I was on my own was a difficult process

After being disappointed over the last year with our regular Chinese take away, we decided to try the Golden Dragon. Sweet & sour pork balls are my favourite. Our old take away have substituted pork meat chunks for pork mince, which I found that both the taste and texture were horrible. Prior to ordering, I phoned the Golden Dragon to ask about the meat used. Spoke with a very pleasant, helpful lady and was reassured that they use whole pieces of pork not mince. We ordered a selection of dishes and told our order would be ready in 15 mins. Arrived and food ready on time. The pork balls were up there with the best I've ever had. Chunky, really tender pork meat with the lightest of batter and lovely sweet & sour sauce. The Oriental combo was delicious too, as was everything else we ordered. The last time I enjoyed a Chinese meal this much was in a restaurant in Chinatown, London. Thank you

We went in about 6 months ago and explained about my allergies( wheat , gluten and diary ) , she started to list the things I could safely have , after the first two things I was sold . I didn’t need to hear anymore. So for 3 very successful takeaways I had the chilli chips and peking ribs ( lovely) HOWEVER on the 4 th visit I ordered the same and within 20 minutes felt very ill. I had chronic stomach cramps and was bad for 3 days. Tonight my husband suggested we try again as it might have been coincidental and not the food. When I phoned to order my usual I mentioned my allergies, she told me the chips were not gluten free as cooked in same oil as many other dishes containing gluten !!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say we did not order. I will never use here again . THEY NEED TO STICK TO THE COOKING PRACTICES. DO NOT USE IF HAVE ALLERGIES AS THEY CHANGE THEIR POLICIES AS THEY GO ON.

Loved it so tasty been here a few times and cannot fault it what so ever only live round the corner so quite handy for a cheeky treat the chicken balĺs are the best

Not good , crispy chilli beef , with no beef in , chicken balls like submarines, truly the worst meal ever

The past... As a Couple our first try of this Chinese takeaway was about 5 years ago and from what we remember the food was beyond awful and vowed never to go back. The present.... Reluctantly we decided to give it another try as our usual takeaway has gone, and have to say that overall on the food we ordered it wasn't that bad, with the standout item being the 'sweet and sour chicken balls' on this occasion would have to mark them 5* plus, they were far and the best we've ever had (let's hope this is normal and not a one of) and the accompanying sauce wasn't that bad either. One of the other items ordered was Chicken Satay with veggies, this was ok but could be improved massively if the 'satay sauce' was a bit thicker, as the one we has was somewhat waterey, so instead of wrapping itself around the meat and veggies and making it all glorious and yummy, it just sat at the bottom of the container looking somewhat sad. Overall we enjoyed what we had and would try it again.

Im not one to use this site much but I felt the need to do this just to warn fellow bridporters and holiday makers! I've been going to this Chinese the past few months, food is okay, beef is very chewy, they mix up orders alot and prices were on the high side. As it's in bridport it was convenient to go there.. But as from now on I will be going out of town for my Chinese! I ordered the usual last night (8ish) and when I got there the guy behind the counter said the price. I stepped back and thought wow that's abit much I reluctantly paid grabbed a menu from the counter and got into my car. Checked the Chinese to see if I had ordered more than I thought. I hadn't. After our meal I compared the menu I already had at home with the one i had picked up earlier. To my horror every single thing on the menu had gone up in price. This Chinese is pricey anyway but the prices they are demanding now are a joke! Please be warned you will be ripped off! I will be going out of town for my Chinese now it's alot cheaper to do that even with fuel and the crewkerne Chinese is cheaper plus the food quality is alot better! You should be ashamed of yourselves golden dragon.

Never have I thrown out an entire meal until I bought a Take away from this establishment. Food was just tasteless, luke warm, and really inedible. Avoid at all costs.

I eat here when I work an evening shift. Never disappoints, always have a really nice meal 🙂 5 stars every time!

Decided to try this Chinese and have to say very disappointed ☹️ no flavour and when asked if we could have something cooked crispy the lady did not get it trying to explain was hard work from now on we will stick to our top Chinese as they were shut on this night

It was the worst meal I have ever had from a takeaway 80% of the meal ended up in the bin. I had the house special rice it was undercooked the curry sauce was full of salt and chips had ben reheated that many times chips wear like rubber. I would not recommend the golden dragon bridport to anybody

Horrible Chinese please avoid the food was tasteless and such a waste of money egg fried rice tasted re heated about 20times ridiculously dry with hardly any egg chow mein very bad sweet and sour sauce tasted very cheap best of buying a stir fry meal and cooking yourself there was no parking and staff were very rude it was overpriced for horrible food

My family and I had a short break in Dorset and stayed in West Bay. We found Golden Dragon Chinese take away in Bridport and decided to give them a try. The staff was very polite and helpful. To my surprise the quality of the cooking was fantastic. I can say I was surprised because I have been a gourmet chef for many years and I know what is good cooking and what is not. The crispy chili beef was absolutely perfect. Definitely good value for money. I would recommend Golden Dragon to anyone anytime. Well done, keep up the good work. I will be back.

We are staying on holiday in Chideock up to now we have had fantastic pub meals and takeaways. However tonight it was our misfortune to choose the Golden Dragon in Bridport. The meal was absolutely disgusting, no taste, colourless and 100% inedible. The chicken curry was just tasteless brown cornflour with a bit of chicken thrown in. The chicken chop suey was the same colourless, tasteless liquid with a few bean sprouts and chicken thrown in. The egg fried rice should have been renamed to soya sauce rice it had not been fried and the egg was non existent. How this place survives I don’t know no wonder there were no customers waiting. In our local Chinese it’s bustling and overflowing with customers. Be warned give it a miss save your money. We are pensioners and appreciate good food.

First time going here as we were staying in the village, food was lovely, very big portions and good price, will definitely go back when we’re next in the area. Definitely recommend :)

I agree with the other comments that this Chinese has improved hugely since a new takeover or new chef? The dishes are delicious and generous what I really like is the meat they use only chicken breast and they don’t seem to soak it in water like other Chinese’s do which is horrible. Husband loves their Chinese curry but all dishes we have eaten have been delicious excellent would recommend

Popped in for a takeaway just for myself had ribs shredded beef in ginger and noodles with bean sprouts and nearly scoffed the lot it was great and generous portions meant l couldn't finish it (not like me!) Definitely recommend it

the place has really improved with the new owners, I really enjoy the malasian house curry, and the thai red curry

Food is good value and quick, some dishes are a little to greasy for my taste but still enjoyable for others.

Rapidly becoming our favourite Chinese in Bridport. Generous portions, tasty and good value for money. Friendly service as well. :)

Only went to the Golden Dragon as K Yuen shut for a few days and wished I had gone to Dominos instead!!! Walked in, ordered and went to pay with card and told cash only! Brilliant in this day and age! Walked to cashpoint!!! Got home and dished up - chips horrible, reheated and the Kung Poo Chicken was full of chilli seeds, no veg and hot, so hot couldn't eat it! Threw all left overs and lot of left overs out which we never do in our household! Couldn't even give it to the dog as it would have killed him!

Wouldn't definitely not recommend. Chips were re-heated and all crunchy, aswell as covered in salt. Chow mein dripping in oil and egg fried rice was soggy. Definitely avoid.

Ustedes están haciendo la comida del país que hace el más exorbitante, platos variados nunca. Realmente estoy decepcionado sólo causa su Bridport no significa que debe hacer la comida basura. Fideos crujientes, carne de mi no tenía sabor. Aunque agradable. pollo pelotas Estoy seguro de que se puede hacer mejor. Cómo puede ser buena comida china.

Passing through lovely Bridport and saw the Sunshine yellow shop front ,,, right choice of colour vas the welcome was warm and bright ,,, food choices great , taste super and very generous quantity ,,,,

Tuvimos reunión familiar y nos pareció un llevar sería estupendo. La carne Es difícil con una t grandes cantidad de verduras fue lo que nos dieron. La comida era sosa y condimentada. No volvería otra vez.

Having just moved to Bridport we decided to try our nearest Chinese takeaway, I'm afraid it was a very poor meal, we threw away more than half of it, sorry but improvement is needed, we will be trying elsewhere.

comida normal, y mi marido estaba muy enfermo después de comer aquí. No es particularmente cordial servicio. Evitar!

Esta china solía ser increíble, me recuerda los días de "Brucie" .. fue fabuloso y la comida era bastante buena. dejó ... las cosas han cambiado y ahora ya no es nuestro favorito, más normal pero impecable nether.
