Golden dragon in Argyll & Bute

Top food and well priced unlike some of the rip of restaurants on Islay and I would highly recommend Oh and no service charge lol 💚💚💚

We were on our way home one night and didn't fancy eating out and so we decided to stop in here for a take away as it purports to be a Chinese and Thai takeaway. We both ordered pad Thai and ordering one vegetable and one chicken Pad Thai caused the person at the till no end of confusion which is when we should have taken the cue to give up and leave. The Pad Thai was absolutely DISGUSTING. It appeared to be powdered curry (presumably made up in water?) coating some noodles and neither of us took more than a few bites before binning it. A complete waste of money. Would not recommend.

We got two meals - chicken curry and schezuan, with rice and spring rolls. Curry was very bland and oily. Schezuan was nice. Spring rolls burnt and tasteless. Quite expensive for a very basic meal.

I was visiting Islay during the festival and due to my bad planning by not booking reservations at the other local establishments, I had stopped in here as a last resort. The menu on the window says Thai and Chinese cuisine, which is a stretch. We had ordered pad Thai and panang curry. The Pad Thai was really dry and the curry was more of an Indian curry rather than Thai. The color was brown rather than its bright vibrant red and other than the Thai spice, it was lacking in its traditional "Thai" flavored profiles. The person staffed at the time, not sure if they're the owner, but was on their phone the entire time in the dining area and lacked service. We had asked for water and it was never given. The only time they got off their phone was when we were given our change back and they had a smile like you gonna give me any of that, which me being me, I did.

We had a variety of takeaway dishes from Golden Dragon, who cover several Asian cuisines. We had mostly Chinese food, and all of it excellent.

Wir hatten das Beef Curry zum Mitnehmen. Es war nicht so gut. Ich werde dort kein Essen mehr kaufen. Vielleicht ist das chinesische Essen ja besser.

Just got a takeaway, 4 different meals, each one was horrific. We seen them cooking, the chicken was pre cooked, heated up in a wok and dipped in the relevant sauce. Chicken was dryer than a Bedouins bawsack. Don't start me on the chips. The pictures of the meals are what we left as unable to eat anymore despite being ravenous. Avoid at all cost

Tried the Chinese Take Away when we found all restaurants around Port Charlotte either full or closed. An excellent meal. The lovely owner brought the food to the car...the extra mile!!!!

Had take away from here on our trip last week. Menu great and service was great. We had the mixed starter which was okay. Meals were Thai Chicken Massaman Curry and Shredded Chilli Beef which both were really good. Overall we were impressed. We visit each time we come to Islay.

Had some different type of food and really enjoyed beyond my expectations. Recommend people visiting Islay to visit here.

Across the spectrum of Chinese restaurants, this was average. Fast, complete menu, food: meh. But the only game in town, so if that’s what you want. . .

Was a surprise they open restaurant again.Had Special Padthai Singapore style was amazing. Golden Dragon Mixed special as statar. Love this place. Want to comeback again. Lovely friendly staff.

We had 2 carryout meals from her.They were absolutely delicious.Probably the best we have ever had.The staff are very friendly and helpful.

We were on a wildlife tour of Islay and got to eat in several restaurants. Apart from having very nice food here, what really set this place apart was the friendliness of the owner and staff. They went out of their way to chat with us and give us a potted history of the place.

Duck was grey, tempura batter was thick and prawns over cooked and 3/4 became ill , worst meal ever!

The spring rolls are store bought and not very nice. We ordered three other items that consisted of mostly onion. I wouldn’t order from here unless you really love onions in different sauces. There is no seating like in the photo posted here but there is a big ceiling fan that may fall on someone’s head any minute as it is swinging wildly.

Certa noite em nossa visita a Islay deu uma vontade de comida simples e barata. Optamos então pelo takeaway do Golden Dragon - pedimos nossos dois pratos "de entrada" (achávamos que eram porções pequenas devido ao preço pequeno), pedimos se podíamos comer ali na entrada (podíamos, deram até talheres pra gente) e esperamos uns dez minutos até sair.Enquanto esperávamos, o telefone não parava de tocar e o entra e sai de clientes era muito grande - um óbvio bom sinal.Saiu um pacote de duas travesas de isopor grande e chamaram nosso número, era nosso pedido! Ainda bem que só pedimos os dois, comemos tudo e estava uma delícia.Sim, falta mesa mas pelo preço, quantidade e qualidade posso comer de pé mesmo.

The food was good, price reasonable and we didn't have a long wait. There is ample parking outside and a comfortable waiting area. We had no complaints.

Good menu with all the usual usual suspects but did contain Thai as well as Chinese food.

This was a pleasurable experience, the food was great and good value for money. Did not expect this on Islay, thanks and certainly would return here.

Our takeaway meal was quickly served having phoned our order through shortly before arrival at the Golden Dragon. As a party of 6 adults, we each had a different meal, we were all greatly satisfied with the flavour, size of the portion and the price.

Me habían advertido sobre este p! Ace. . . Es la primera para llevar. He chino que he ido que está dirigido por gente de Bangladesh.

Me impactó. Mucho mejor que mi local en el continente. Platos muy muy sabroso y muy rápido.

Una comida para llevar ordenados desde el Golden Dragon y he de decir que era muy sabrosa. El personal era muy amable e incluso abrir la puerta para nosotros cuando nos íbamos, una rareza en estos días de vuelta a casa en la península. Las gambas Curry era delicioso y los demás miembros de mi familia el pollo al curry que disfrutaron muchísimo.

Got a takeaway from here last week and the service and value was great. I had Chicken Satay and my hubby had the plain noodles and we can recommend both. We will definitely visit again.

While staying in holiday cottage in Bowmore area just fancied take away rather than eating out. Food was very good. We had four different meals and all were of a good standard. Worth a visit.

Excellent Chinese take-away. Extensive menu, bit on the pricy side but it was very good. Improved on my last visit so maybe they have a new chef.

Having found the restaurant on Trip Advisor, on arrival we thought we had mistakenly entered the takeaway area… however were soon advised the sit-in restaurant is closed. The server was very friendly. The food was well priced. However on opting for the takeaway, we found it rather bland.

It is quite difficult to review a Chinese restaurant I think as what can you say other than the food was good or bad !well the food here was very good. Nice size portions. very tasty. not the brilliant horrible bright colours some are, and all tasted authentic.I would recommend the Golden Dragon, as we thought it was very inexpensive, which is pretty good on such an isolated island.

We had a number of selections, including chicken, beef and pork dishes but , sadly, we did not enjoy any of them . We did not return.

Food ok. Would be good if they could deliver you order to your door. At lease we can say we have a Chinese Restaurant.
