Fifteen of us went to the Golden Curry for after a golf event in April to celebrate. I am so disappointed at the number of so-called 'Indian' restaurant (that are actually Bangaladeshi) that simply serve the same generic slop - stock sauces with meat or veg added at the point or order - Meat swimming in pink and orange sauce with little resemblance of any 'proper Indian' food. The Golden Curry is down there with the worst !!

My wife and I have come back to the Golden Curry time and time again, both for eating in and taking away. We’ve been hard pressed to find a better Indian takeaway in Cambridge. Despite India being a largely vegetarian country, many Indian restaurants in the UK tend not to spend much time on their vegetarian plates. The Golden Curry is an exception. The waiters are also very friendly. Well worth a visit.

We ordered a lamb tikka jalfrezi which my partner loved and I had a chicken tikka balti. Flavours of the curries were lovely but so full of onions. In mine I got 6 pieces of meat one of which I couldn’t eat as it was all gristle. Pilau rice was so highly spiced (cloves we think, or nutmeg /cinnamon) that I had to ask for a plain boiled rice. To be fair I don’t think they charged me for that.

I came here on a business trip to Cambridge - there was a choice of 3 curry houses on this stretch of road, I chose this one. The service was responsive and friendly, average popadom chutneys, a well cooked lamb curry and an excellent tarka dhal. Nothing special, but very good, and reasonably priced.

I've booked an table for 14 of us as I've booked 2 week's ago in advance a family and friend meal out for Christmas, Great service warm welcome great friendly staff food so delicious the reason I am rating this really low is the fact as we got our main course we were half way through, as a large number group arrived in the restu rant, The manager in the baige blazer had approached to us had asked if we wanted anything else, as we were still digging through our mains and immediately after we were given the check without anyones request!, most of us were not completely finished! we were told to leave in a unmannered way the bartender as I witnessed the bartender unhygenically used his bare hands to serve ice in soft drinks also he was gazing at our table as if we're not welcomed anymore as I believe this is very suspicious this has ruined our family reunion day for our Christmas get together. I Would Personally Not Recommend This To Anyone I Am Very Disappointed With Golden Curry I've Been Coming Here On And Off.....

Después de luchar para encontrar un lugar donde comer en una noche de sábado sin reserva nos tropezamos con lo que parece desde el exterior para ser un buen restaurante indio. Entramos para que nos dijeran que está a unos 15 minutos de espera para una mesa. .

We have passed the Golden Curry many times and heard mixed reviews, this time we decided to take the plunge and go in. As we entered, the smell hit us and we quickly decided it would be nicer to stay and eat than have a take away, being it was a busy Saturday night that wasn’t possible, the place is very popular and come to think of it, every time we wonder past its full! We ordered our food which exceeded our expectations! The food was tasty, the sauce was rich and smooth and NOT covered with that layer of oil which some curry houses give away for free! I would suggest to be more generous with the meat, the pieces were small and few and the rice boxes are also small portions. We would definitely choose to return and feel that a visit to the restaurant would be best in comparison to ordering a take away. The price is reasonable for mill road and honestly I think we have found our new favorite.

Nothing too fancy, just a great Indian for a nice evening out. not a sloppy take-away boozy indian, not a fancy quirky Indian, just in the middle. Once they took quite a while to serve the food, but I won't hold it against them as they were really polite about it and they were having a very busy evening. The seating arrangement is good, you don't feel too packed in, roses on the table and metal trays for curries are a nice touch. I spent my 51st birthday with 15 of my best friends at the Golden Curry and cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough. The food was superb. Each one of us was very impressed with the menu, vegetarians and vegans were catered to as well as meat eaters and every plate was left empty. The service was spot on. The waiters were attentive without being pushy, we started with poppadoms and assorted dips which were fresh and in plentiful. None of us felt pressurised to hurry our starters and the waiters were very attentive and kept their distance whilst we were eating. The mains came at the same time with none of us were kept waiting. The bill for 15 people including drinks came to £265, We left a £25 tip because we were that impressed. Superb. Thanks to all the staff. You made my birthday very memorable, thank you.

Having previously visited a number of times in small groups but also a large group of 20, I thought it would be the perfect place to host a dinner for a special birthday celebration. I booked a table for 20 people 3 weeks ago and from the first call, they were rude but I put it down to a one off. I called on the day to change our booking from 20 to 15, which they said was fine. On arrival I was told I had changed it to from 20 to 17 and now 15. This was categorically not the case - I specifically said it three times on the phone to confirm that my party would be 15 and that I was sorry for the inconvenience. Saying that, I called up early afternoon and our reservation was not until the evening - it is located on a busy street in the City where they take walk-in bookings everyday. We were seated across three separate tables which in itself was an issue but this actually wouldn't have been too much of a problem if we had received good customer service. However, they were then incredibly rude and rushed us to order after 10 minutes of arriving, when we were still waiting for 4 people to join us. The whole time we were there I felt like we were an inconvenience. Throughout the evening we were spoken to very abruptly and it felt very rushed. It is hugely disappointing as I picked this restaurant to celebrate a special birthday for a family member and so many of our party commented on how we poorly we were treated. There are other Indian restaurants in Cambridge with far better customer service and I am only disappointed that we didn't book elsewhere. It's a shame as last year we enjoyed a lovely celebration there but for the poor customer service only, I will not return.

I was in Cambridge and visited this restaurant as a lone guest. The food was, was I thought very good, no complaints there. The problem was my curry was brought on a wooden tray in a metal dish with two metal handles. When I touched the dish I was badly burned, I shouted in pain and within a few seconds blisters had formed on my fingers and thumb. I asked the waiter to bring me some iced water which he did and later the manager brought an ice bag. I made the best of my evening and at one point the manager brought me some ointment. The apologies were half hearted, I had not been warned of the ridiculously high temperature of the metal bowl. When I came to settle the bill, there was no gesture to try to make up for my injury and I was charged extra (about 1/2 the bottle price) for a glass of wine, "because it was a large glass" I was told. No reduction in the bill and incredibly I was then asked how much gratuity I wanted to leave. I am so sorry to leave a negative review, but customer care here was sadly lacking. Maybe this was a one off, but be careful if you visit.

We were a group of 20 people, having a group dinner at Golden Curry. The staff was not very friendly when taking our orders. We had to ask for glasses explicitly when water was served. When we asked for the bill, they were reluctant to give separate bills. Instead, they randomly assigned dishes onto two bills and made mistakes on the amount. A small group of us ended up paying for food that we didn't order. What was worse, they blamed one of my colleagues for that, as they had 'informed' her of such mistakes. Lastly, he shouted at us, as he was 'interrupted' during calculating the remaining amount to be paid, and the reason was only because he kept talking and we reminded him to focus on the calculating.

We went with a large group on Friday night. The service was good but the food was fairly uninspiring. Coming as we do from the heart of good Indian cuisine in the UK our expectations are pretty high. The dips in a spice tray were uninspiring (out of a jar we suspect) and that they ran out and so there was not quite enough to go aaround. Immediately upon entering the restaurant the ambience was lacking - akin to the feeling a workplace canteen. The waiters whilst courteous were constantly rushing - we had barely been given the menu before being asked what we would like to order. The price was extortionate at just under £50.00 for two people eating a modest amount with only one of us drinking. The worst part of all was that the food was so despicably bland and tasteless. It's impossible to go into a curry house and not over order. Especially when the menu is varied enough to make it interesting but not so full as to make it too difficult to choose. The waiters coped very well with a group that was too busy to concentrate on anything as mundane as ordering! A great catch up evening with friends made comfortable with delicious dishes.I had chicken pathia (ordered without green peppers) which came with a pilau rice but I ordered coconut to go with my dish - always does the trick in cooling down hot dishes. Garlic naan, brinjal bhaji, poppadoms, pickles. What's not to love. I tasted a few of the other dishes and they were good too although a lamb tikka was proclaimed too sweet. There is not a lot to say apart from average, nothing particular good or bad, a 80's style menu, average decor, staff. The food we ordered looked and tasted almost identical even though it was two different types of curry. They tasted alright, even though I could probably do better at home. It seemed to me a lack of love was present in the food, just get it out who cares if it's bland. There are much better Indian restaurants in Cambridge.

Honestly some of the finest indian food i've had ever. Incredible flaviurs. A stag party, we were well looked after. Good value for money & lovely staff. Can't say I'm mad about Kingfisher lager but it was a lovely night, cheers all.

Poppadoms and drinks came fairly quick but after ordering our meal we waited over and hour and still no food. We was constantly told it would be 5 minutes so we decided to leave and pay for the drinks and poppadoms, when we tried to pay they tried charging up for an extra drink and didn't seem bothered that we left without a meal. Other customers were clearly not happy as they were leaving without there after a 20 minute wait. Certainly won't be returning!

Reminded me of a curry restaurant from 20 years ago when I was a student. Service was very quick and efficient for a busy Saturday night but apart from the popadoms and naan bread , really very average Indian food.Very disappointed with the portions and salad with chicken tikka and onion bhaji starters. The tikka was cold and lifeless and felt less than fresh. Had tikka masala for main course and have never tasted such a sweet curry before. Far far too much sugar being added. There is so much better Indian food to be had in Cambridge.Service was polite and good but not a very pleasant ambience as restaurant was busy , noisy and unappealing.

Service was very quick to take drink orders and popadoms. Took a while to order food. When the food came it was good , naan breads were very good. Would recommend

Typical (western) Indian food. Good prices, friendly staff and tastes OK for a night out. If you go in a big group book ahead. They recently refurbed so it is slowly modernising away from that stuck in the 70's curry house look. The fish tank was a fun feature.

The title says it all. We had really good service with very polite waiters and everything that we had was really good.We had the chicken Korma and the chicken Pathia curry and both of them tasted great. We also tried the samosas and the mixed kebab I think, which were also quite good and the coconut bread was amazing. It may be a bit pricey but I was so satisfied with the food that I didn't care.I would totally recommend this.

Visited twice, got an upset tummy both times. On my second visit I witnessed a waiter picking his nose and touching poppadams using same hands. Needless to say I left my meal half eaten, paid up and left. The first time I was unsure of the source of my tummy problem, but this second visit confirmed it.I later googled the city council food hygiene rating for this restaurant is very low (2=needs improvement). The food also tasted pretty average, more like out of the box supermarket curries. And the service is nothing to write home about. If you want to pay through the roof only to get sick then do visit, this is the place for you.

Rarely a week passes when I don't visit the Golden Curry in Mill Road. It's a popular and recently refurbished restaurant supported by locals and run as a family business. I'm greeted, on each occasion, by name, often given my favourite table and enjoy friendly conversation with the very attentive staff. The dishes are varied, tasty and plentiful and the service is very good with hard working and efficient waiters. The prices are very reasonable. The friendly chefs are young and very skilful. Its proximity to the excellent Kingston Arms is a bonus and a good meeting place prior to an evening in the Golden Curry.

Who doesn't love a restaurant that can take care of fish tanks? In all seriousness, the cuisine is excellent and the service good. The breads are particularly tasty and so are the chutneys.Coming from the USA, the cuisines at Golden Curry has a distinctive English/Indian taste which I find pleasant.

I have held back a grade on the basis that my party of three was seated in a pokey corner and we were at the point of enquiring if we had been forgotten about before our meal arrived. It was a Saturday evening, we had not booked, and it might be they were doing us a favour by letting us in at all. When the food did arrive it was of good standard and I enjoyed it. I wouldn't hesitate to return here if given the chance.

This unassuming Indian restaurant at the bridge end of Mill Road is well and truly a gem in central Cambridge. A full refurbishment has resulted in what is a cross between traditional curryhouse and modern restaurant - they've got the balance spot on!A combination of a Tandoori Mixed Grill, a Chicken Tikka Masala and a Chicken Dhansak with various rices and side dishes such as Sag Aloo & Bhindi Bhaji proved to be more than enough for the three of us! Waiters very friendly and accommodating. The menu was great value for money as it is, but they even threw in an added 105 discount for being students (we hadn't informed them that we were students, I guess our baby faces gave it away).Overall, a lovely meal and worth another visit.

Are here with friends. Don't be fooled by the other reviews. The food is bland, all looks the same irrespective of what you order and took forever to arrive. There are far better curry houses in the city, Pipasha is far superior.

Visited with friends recently, and the first time I have eaten here. The start was not great as we had to wait 10 mins for "our" table to be vacated by its previous owners. We were offered complimentary drinks while we waited - so not all bad. It was a Friday and the place was packed, even so our order was taken swiftly and the food arrived in good time. Overall we had a good, traditional Indian meal (all the usual suspects were on the menu) and a good evening was had by all. Worth a try if you can get a table :)

A party of us reserved a table for 9.30 on a Thursday so not the weekend. when we went in no table was available and was informed it would be between 20 and 30 minutes wait. What was the point of reserving if they were not going to take any notice of it. Our suspicions were that they tried to sneak a service through instead of just reserving it as they should have done. as we had already booked a taxi we took our business elsewhere and had a curry in a place that treated customers in the correct manner.

I stopped going for years as it went down hill. But it was refurbished and heard there was new management. As it is local to us we thought we'd try again. I have been 5 times since January 2015 and cannot get enough! Service is really attentive and every dish I've had has been delicious. They also do takeaways. I specially recommend the Gingrich Puri (Pan fried spicy prawn cooked in medium thick sauce, served on fried bread) as a starter and the Shagor Zinga (whole King Prawn with peepers) and tandoori chicken. But everything is really good. Very surprised with the bad reviews and the fact it is so far down the list. Every time I pass by the place is busy...

We waited a long time for our food. Friendly service but took too long. They made an error with the order which was frustrating and then didn't offer any compensation until we asked a number of times. They are normally good though.

My previous visit to the Golden Curry had been a very long time ago, probably 20 years, but I had fond memories of the place. We called in on a Friday evening. The place was quiet, only a few tables were occupied and we were seated straight away. I did not feel particularly welcomed. My first impressions were that the place was a bit dingy, and the large shop style windows were wet with condensation. Our order was taken and we had some papadums while we waited for the meal. I had chicken jalfrezi with rice and Bombay potatoes. The food was no better than okay, and nowhere near as tasty as at my favourite Indian restaurant. The service was perfunctory, the staff made no effort to be friendly at all.The bill for two of us, papadums, a main course and rice each, a soft drink each and one side dish came to £35. I thought it was expensive for what it was. They charge a lot for soft drinks so I am glad we only had one each.It is unlikely that I will go back.

A poor curry resturant. The Golden Curry is a camped resturant with an out of date interior. The staff are grumpy, it wouldn't hurt them to crack a smile. The drinks are ridiculously expensive. The coke comes from a bottle and it is warm. The pint glasses are suspiciously small. For £3.90 it's terrible. The food is rather bland. I had chicken dopiaza. The sauce tasted too tomatoey. The rice is also bland and tasteless. Compared to my favourite curry resturant, The Tarmarind, this is no where near as good.

Tried the Wednesday Buffet which exceed expectations. A generous mixed starter. Mains with rice, my wife had main and Naan so we had the best of both worlds. Great taste and big portions. It has to be done.
