Room 328 was a disaster: -You could not control the temperature from the room (video attached). You had to call downstairs to control it, and even then, was freezing all the time. -The shower water was either too hot or too cold, impossible to regulate. Also even if you managed to, it kept changing the temperature whilst you were in. -There is a rubbing pipes noise coming from the room on the top, which is very annoying at night. -Front desk staff was nice in general but ultimately useless to solve this. There was a young man on 24/10 that was clearly not interested in helping and was quite sassy. Small things but as we are here: -Teas did not got replaced throughout my stay. -Radio did not work, nor is possible to connect to your phone via bluethooth in 2024 -Flat white in the coffee machine is more like a latte. Is a shame as the location was great, the bed was incredibly comfortable and otherwise room was nice.

Super close to railway station - literally 3min walk. Cosy rooms, high but comfy beds, a little careless staff at the reception but easily compensated with breakfast. Almost classical English breakfast with black pudding and eggs. Juice glasses are small - but if you take a coffee mug, then it’s ok :)

The pluses, large room and good bedding. The minuses, breakfast worthy of a low-cost youth hostel, small gym with only hot water (technical problem, but there is no bottle of water available), the speakers ( radio in reality) in the room do not have Bluetooth, the bikes are not rentable at the end of the day/evening…overall overpriced for a very limited service.

Excellent spacious room and service! The breakfast was just fine, everything you could expect. Only two minor comments: The small bottle in which they serve the smoothie tasted perfume so worth reviewing whether the kitchen staff wears perfume. It usually passes over to the food and utensils. The hair dryer was pretty old and it had a trick to make it work. So be patient, you figure out quickly. Btw it was stored in the desk drawer. Odd place. I'm not advocating for buying new ones while the old works but it was fun to figure out :) so don't drop a star be sure of this. Definitely worth staying there, loved it. Everyone from the staff are super stars.

My 3rd time staying (with work). Definitely the last. Service is typically but unforgivably poor. The staff are extremely inexperienced and untrained. As a single guest, was put in room with 2 extremely narrow and uncomfortable single beds, and disabled-friendly bathroom. It remains beyond my comprehension why that was deemed appropriate. No toiletries/ amenities in the room. Reception had no spare iPhone charging cable. With the phone battery dying, I asked for a wake up call for the morning. No one called. Predictably at this stage, my room had not been made up by the time I got back in the evening of the 2nd night. NOT what one expects from a supposed 4 star hotel in a posh English town, for typically > £300/ night. Utterly unacceptable. DO NOT book.

I travelled down from Glasgow to spend a weekend with friends in Cambridge. My friend and I decided to stay at the 4 star Clayton hotel as we wanted a bit of luxury and comfort. How wrong were we!! We were extremely disappointed with the service at the Clayton hotel, Cambridge. I checked in online a few days prior to arrival. When we got to the reception at about 1.30pm, the receptionist was friendly, took our luggage and said our room was not ready yet. No indication there was any problems. I had my mobile phone with me all afternoon and evening and there were no missed calls showing from the hotel. We had a lovely time out in Cambridge and returned to the hotel at about 10pm feeling worn out after a lovely day, and we just wanted to get into our room and chill out in the luxurious beds watching tv with a glass of wine. On arrival to reception, the receptionist said the manager wanted to speak to us, the manager informed us in a jovial way (that made us think there was a problem but it wouldn’t affect our stay) he said there was a maintenance issue with the room, he did not say what it was though, he said he had booked us into the 3 star IBIS down the road, ‘although-he said- it was not as nice as this hotel’ so he is not exactly bothered about the guest experience, sending us to a budget hotel stating it was not as good as his, and not offering us a refund on the difference. In fact he said he had had to pay them extra for the room (Like I should care!) and that I had paid about the same for the room at the Clayton when I had in fact paid over £100 more. However, we knew the manager was gaslighting us, but we were too tired to argue, he had not offered us a refund or to pay the difference for the rooms or offer any compensation on the night, Which is very poor customer service especially for a 4star hotel dedicated to customer experience in Cambridge. Oh no tell lie he did say we were welcome to trek back over to eat their breakfast. Actually, the Ibis did a great breakfast so we stayed put. When I got to the ibis I asked how much the room was, they said £125 a night and I had paid £236.70 for the Clayton hotel room. I called the Clayton that night and was assured we would get a refurn of the amount we would have saved had we got a refund and booked directly at the IBIS, but that did not happen. It is disappointing that the Clayton hotel manager did not seem to know how much I had paid for the room when he spoke to us. Rather than showing dedication to experiences all about the guest and that each and every guest is welcomed we were made to feel very unwelcome indeed. And he may have found it funny but it was no joke for us. Luckily the Ibis hotel staff were friendly and welcoming and when I come back to Cambridge that’s where we will go or to the Hilton if we want a bit of luxury in a 4 star hotel. I called and complained when I returned home and exchanged some emails with the manager to try and resolve the matter, I did get £80 refunded (which was all I was offered, not even the difference between the cost of the Clayton and the IBIS), but this still left a £27 deficient (He had only refunded what it had cost him! and not what I would have saved had I booked direct, in fact we could have stayed with friends so a full refund would have been better had he bothered to call me during the day. During the email exchange, I was also offered an upgrade if I chose to stay there again, the upgrade was subject to availability (which is funny really as not even a room I paid for was available!) I have lost trust with this hotel and, would rather stay in a cheaper hotel that has rooms for people that have paid and checked in. I was not reimbursed the amount we agreed on the phone with the manager or the receptionist on the night when I called from the IBIS on the night we were turned away from the hotel which is very disappointing. My advice to anyone even considering staying at this hotel is that if you get turned away after paying for the room and checking in, do not leave the premises until you get a full refund!

Stayed the night as a birthday treat with a friend in Cambridge in room 410 Got an email few days before to check-in and an email in the morning to check-out. Reception lady was friendly and gave me all the information I needed. Got key card to activate the lift to your floor, to get into the room and into key holder to activate the electric for the room. The room was very spacious, bright and clean. Bathroom and shower was big and clean. Had towels, hand soap, body wash and shampoo which was nice and even had shower caps. The fridge had to 2 cartons on Irish water which tasted OK. Room had lots of room to store clothes. Bed was just so comfy, didn't want to leave. Had UK plug sockets and USB points either side of the bed. Had large flat screen TV with lots of UK channels and radio stations. Didn't use the restaurant as ate out for dinner and breakfast but had a look in and looked nice enough. The train station is 2 minutes walk away with some places to eat like Greggs. The city centre took 15 to 20 minutes to walk there. It isn't the cheapest hotel I've stated at at £160 a night but the look and feel made up for it. It was for my birthday and would definitely go there again for another special occasion. Definitely would recommend this hotel if staying in Cambridge.

Not good customer service from reception. The receptionist had a strong foreign accent -she didn't' know the local area and said there wasn't any parking so sent me away to the railway station parking in which customer service doesn't exist. It seems we have to only ask for what is convenient. There is a voicemail number which operates via computer which gives the online information no one wants. This is the customer service we encounter in so many modern businesses nowadays. Humans are seemingly not welcome. Thank you for putting up with my ranting and raving.

Great location close to the station. The trip was for my partners birthday and our room was upgraded from a Deluxe Double to an Executive which was a really nice unexpected gesture. We also had complimentary soft drinks, water and chocolates which were all much appreciated. All the staff we spoke to were very nice, however what let the trip down was the service in the Restaurant. I had prepaid for a 3 course meal and feel it should be made obvious when booking that you are not getting the A La Carte menu options. We were shown to our table, and given menus, we asked for a wine list and were then forgotten. 15 minutes later we asked a different waitress for a wine list and were given one. After finishing our main course we waited 20 minutes for our plates to be collected and dessert order taken . Considering the restaurant was not busy, we were disappointed with the poor service and lack of attentiveness.

The hotel is very pretty, business-like, with clear and huge rooms, and a bad that was truly exceptional. It is a 2-minute walk to the train station, surrounded by stores and places to eat. Only two things I would like to point out I was unhappy with: one, there was no lotion in the bathroom. Two: there was no coffee machine, just a tea kettle. In a 4-star hotel, I expect a Nespresso machine or something like that. Not everyone drinks coffee, and this is not the kind of small, charming English B&B where you expect ONLY British amenities. We asked for one, and they told us they did not have any, even though we saw several Nespresso machines in a storage area where clean linens are kept. That puzzled us.

Exceptional.. And that being from when you arrive at the reception and until you check out. So what can I say..? Well for starters. The layout of the hotel is very eye-catching, from the moment you through the main entrance. Where it boasts a comfortable book lounge vibe. A place to come and relax. And this feel spreads throughout whole establishment. And when entering my room, i couldn't believe what i was seeing. It was simply gorgeous. The bed was just massive. The shower room was of a high standard. And the rest of the room, from the decor and the remaining furnishings, were also of a high standard. You get the feeling that, no expense was spared at all. The focus on making their visitors as comfortable as possible, is evident everywhere you look. And when it came to breakfast.. it was a really pleasurable moment for me. There was a great choice on offer from having a Continental to a full English. And with the of it being a buffet.. You definitely can feel free to fill your boots.. But all of this wouldn't be possible without the hotels very friendly staff. Always willing to help, no matter the issue. Overall exceptional work ethic 10/10. I would definitely use Clayton Hotels again Thanks Guys.

Despite the assurance that we could call reception for any needs, our attempts to do so were met with frustration as no one answered our calls, even after repeated attempts. We even tried reaching out to the restaurant, hoping to get hold of someone, but to no avail. When we decided to go down to reception personally to request bathrobes, we were disappointed by the lack of follow-up despite being assured that room service would be informed. No one contacted us or came to the room, leaving us waiting for nothing. However, the most significant issue was the room temperature. Despite setting the air conditioning to the lowest temperature, the room remained uncomfortably warm throughout our stay. We tried to give it time, hoping it would adjust, but it only worsened. We couldn't even use the duvet because of the heat. Upon informing the receptionist about the temperature issue the next morning, we were told that adjustments would be made "at the back" as the aircon was “temperamental.” However, despite these assurances, there was no improvement. They offered us a FAN, but refused that as we know it’ll just blow off warm air, also very disappointing option for a 4star hotel. Our frustration peaked when, after waking up early out of sheer discomfort, we went down to reception at 5 am, only to receive the same response about adjusting the temperature "at the back." Despite expressing our disappointment during check-out, we received insincere apologies from the reception staff, with no concrete action taken to address our concerns. Overall, while Clayton Cambridge has received positive reviews in the past, our experience was marred by unresponsive staff and inadequate resolution of issues. As such, I cannot recommend this 4-star hotel based on our disappointing stay.

Small and quiet but nice atmosphere, butter chicken curry and the house chutneys are great. The staff and friendly and can have a laugh. Price isn’t bad either.

Got my Mum and rest of family takeaway curries (lamb bhuna) and was very disappointing birthday meal, we had gone six months ago here and had been expensive (£70 for four) but good curry, now is bland, half cold and packed out with chopped onions. I couldn't taste any spice in the source at all. Suspect restaurant has been taken over or new staff running it and seemed very different curry and produced on cheap and sold for much.
