Golden Cross in Bedford

Excellent food without too much of a wait. However when our table started to be served it took a long time to get all the dishes. They seemed to be serving several tables at once instead of one at a time. I like my food hot and when there's 4 of you not all the dishes will fit on the little heaters so some began to get cold while so many were served at once. Still really enjoyed the food and the evening but that was a minor irritation.

Wonderful food, and friendly service. Four of us had one of the set menus, and every dish was delicious. Ribs were the most tender I've ever had, loved the tea smoked chicken, and the main courses were all great.

Ordered a takeaway and was given a ruff estimate for collection, which I can only assume it was waiting awhile as it was cold when got it home. Most of the food tasted okay but the chicken satay was not right and chicken overcooked and tuff. Not my first choice for Chinese.

Based on past visitation the service had become poor. Had hot plates were cold by the time our starters arrived. Simply very dissapointed PREHAPS in our opinion got to complacent over the years....finally a service charged should be at our discretion not theirs! .

Superb food and service. We just love this restaurant. Little pricey but we're always prepared to pay top money for such tasty, delicious flavoursome food. Just love it and Staff lovely too.

Haven't been back for a while as the wait time was very bad however things have improved and we had a lovely meal standard of food excellant.

Loads of choices on the menu (great for gluten free too) and the food is very tasty. Slightly expensive but arguably worth it for the decent portions

Beautiful food in a lovely setting very old-fashioned inside felt like going back in time but was absolutely packed. Obviously got a really good reputation.

The food we had was nice, however we had our starters and waited a long time for our mains. In the end after waiting 2 hrs no mains and no more drinks offered, we decided to leave and just paid for what we had. No complimentary drinks offered or discount, service really lets the restaurant down, baring in mind this was a Tuesday night.

Excellent food fir 6 of us great service . This was my second time here and will defo return and take family with me . Had a set menu which was spot on and ribs fell off the bone and very lean

Food is excellent and service extremely good. Atmosphere was great, as well. We had a really good dinner here and, I’m sure, will again!

Mixed reviews had always put us off trying this place, but yesterday we decided well let's make our own opinion. We weren't disappointed. We opted for the 3 course special offer where you can choose 2 starters per person and 2 mains per person with a mid course of duck and pancakes. Food was served piping hot. Tea smoked chicken and prawn toasts were my favourites. 1/4 duck then mains. Dont be deterred from visiting this lovely restaurant

Really tasty food from a good size menu and unusually for a Chinese lots of gluten free options. Staff were nice too and the dishes were not overpriced

We have been coming here for probably 25 years. Last night we brought 4 friends over as we wanted them to experience here as they hadn’t been and we have banged on about it for ages! Once again it was amazing! Arrived 7ish for a nice drink in the pub next door while we had a look at the menu and got given some prawn crackers. Always really helpful when it comes to choosing food, especially the set menus. Sat down at 8pm and the starters arrived soon after which are amazing. Then the duck, then the main courses after a short break which we asked for (as we were stuffed!). We loved it as usual, our friends loved it, staff were as ever brilliant and we will always be back. A fabulous night - thankyou to everyone.

Tabled booked for 8pm it was busy as usual. We waited 1 hour for the starters the duck came at 9.30 and the main meal was 10.00pm 2 hours after our arrival. The main dishes arrived over the space of 10 mins and one dish was forgotten. We were full of drink and had all gone past the point of eating by now as it was 10.20pm. Awful family celebration with my sons. It was clear they were over booked could not cope with all the tables and take away orders and did not have enough staff. I suspect they had on chef. They offered no real apology or discount to us and even though I pointed out the service and they knew I was not best pleased but happily took our £103 for a dreadful meal and we left hungry. I have eaten here before and not experienced this service but they certainly made plenty of money last night and had no shame in taking ours and clearly do not care.

Phoned for a takeaway, phone was put down and I was left for 5 mins listening to what was going on on the restaurant, without any explanation. Miserable phone manner and limited menu. Go elsewhere!

Wonderful Meal! Three of us booked for 6pm on a Friday night - we were the first customers but by 7.30 the restaurant was full. We picked different items from the main menu and they were all delicious - soup, spare ribs, duck with pancake rolls, seafood wraps, lemon chicken and a yummy beef dish, plus rice. The service was impeccable - lovely head waiter, really cheerful and helpful, cannot fault the other waiters, they were all lovely. We hadn’t visited for quite a while as the reviews were poor, but we found the food to be just great. We will be returning, even though we have a half hour drive to get there. Thank you Golden Cross for a lovely evening!

I don’t really recommend this restaurant for larger groups. The service was slow and there were long gaps in between courses and we got fed up with waiting. The king prawns were the nicest I had ever had but everything else was so greasy. All the starters were deep fried and my tummy hurt at the end of the night and I stopped eating after a while barely touching the main course. The service I thought was rude and totally impersonal. And for such an impersonal service I was begrudgingly having to pay a service fee that was added on to the bill. The waiters delivering food were rude and leaned across while we were in conversations and in a way that invaded my personal space. The whole waiting team seemed to have a low tolerance for us and we were not a loud table and it came across in their mannerisms and body language which was altogether quite unpleasant. Not good value at all either for the price.

Lunch family get together for 1230. 1240 & 1 member not there so the regular older waiter shouted across the restaurant - WE CLOSE AT 2 ! = Unacceptable. However food was excellent. But then the bill arrives - just a total - no details so cannot check - again not acceptable.

We were a booking of 9 for a birthday, we thought the food was very over priced and had to wait over an hour for the main course to come, the waiter was very rude and clearly could not deal with a large table. Did not appreciate the 10% service charge and thought this was out of order, would definately not go back, will stick with local chinese

The food is very good, the staff are good as well but the restaurant decor hasn’t changed for years, it’s stuck in the seventies, it could be so much better, we visited last night and the place hasn’t changed since our last visit about 1998, but as I said food good👍

We've been to the Golden Cross some time ago, but this time was very different. The service was terribly slow and it took nearly an hour between our starter and main. The staff brought our rice out first which went cold because there was another few minutes before the main food arrived. My rice was overcooked, my "sizzling beef fillet" had the texture of a sponge and I sincerely doubt that it was actually beef fillet. I was really disappointed. The staff were completely indifferent. I won't be going back.

Hadn't been here for many years, so thought we'd give it a whirl and to be honest we weren't disappointed. We took the set menu for two and after rather large selection of starters we followed with duck, decent proportion too. The courses were perfectly timed, but then the night began to unravel. Last thing you want two courses into three is a 30 minute delay. By the time the main dishes arrived our stomachs were beginning to tell us we were no longer hungry. We asked where our food was and were told 'we are busy' . Restaurant was only half full but they seemed to be taking endless takeaway orders. Food was lovely and there was a good atmosphereThey banged on £7 service charge at the end which we wouldn't have minded if the service had been better. So another restaurant where they ask you to pay a service charge for the privilege of spending loads of money to have food brought ten yards to you. I like to decide my own tip on merit.Overall would i return? Yes I would.

I live in the Turks and Caicos and come over regularly to visit family. One of my must's on my visit is to go for Chinese food at the Golden Cross. We have been going for over 20 years and the service and the food never ever disappoints. I refuse to go anywhere else.

Wow this restaurant is amazing, the food is top quality, fresh, succulent and always wanting more when it’s all eaten. I had the veggie spring rolls are so tasty full of veggies and not over cooked, and chicken chow mein is so tasty and the t smoked chicken is the most amazing dish I have tasted. My hubby loves the salt and chilli ribs are so so juicy. just try any dish you will never be disappointed. Staff are friendly and always go out of their way to help you. A must try and value for money, worth every pound

Excellent food and fabulous service. Every single dish we ordered was absolutely delicious. The sesame prawn toast was amazing and the shredded duck was so delicious the best I’ve ever had. Service friendly and efficient, shame we had to leave by 10 under the government restrictions. They do takeaway also. Wish I lived nearer.

I have visited this restaurant on many occasions over the last ten or so years and am thoroughly impressed with the quality and diversity of the menus. It is not the usual chop suey and chow mein. The set menus include a starter of your choice - salt and chilli squid, deep fried breaded prawns, bbq spare ribs to die for, chicken satay etc etc with all the various dipping sauces. Then comes the crispy duck and pancakes, followed by a selection of main courses such as the giant green lipped mussels with a ginger chilli spring onion and black bean sauce, with rice. If there are several at a table they can choose different main courses and share. The proportions are large and doggie bags are provided if one cant cope!Beer is super as it comes from the attached pub so one can have draught - at the right temperature, but if one prefers wine there is an excellent list. The staff are very friendly and service is second to none.Thoroughly recommended from a genuine customer!!!

Fantastic Chinese restaurant that the quality of the food and the service is usually superb. Visit here when I went a good restaurant for a special occasion.

I found a hair in my food and they changed the times in the pub stupid times It’s Sunday times like 5:30 to 10:30 all the time yet Friday and Saturday same time like 11pm not 12pm stupidly

It was my wife's surprise 50th birthday with over 30 friends, the service , food, and the whole experience was great. I was allowed to go in early to put flowers , banners and ribbons and balloons up . We had 3 large tables with 12 people on each table . What a great everning , thank you everyone at the Cross .

This restaurant just can’t cope with anything more than being half full. The speed of service is ridiculously slow. Five of us arrived at 6.30pm and were still waiting for some of our main meals at 9.30. A table of ten near us decided to have their meals packed up and take them home because they run out of time. The food was a bit inconsistent as well. Sharing starter overpriced but tasted nice. The crispy chilli beef consisted of no beef and all batter so it was like eating a packet of “nik-naks”. The kung po had no spice when it’s supposed to be spicy and the pork dish had very fatty meat so very unpleasant. The satay chicken, chicken with cashews and the Szechwan chicken were very nice though as were the vegetable noodles. Some of the dishes seemed a little overpriced for what you got. Our mains took twenty minutes from the first to last being brought out so the first dishes were cold by the time the noodles arrived. The staff were friendly and the manager took off the cost of the three main meals that went cold. We also noticed a couple of the customers waiting for their take-aways moaning about the waiting times. Don’t bother going here on weekends or busy times as the delays will ruin your experience. I have since found out that this place has a reputation for timings locally. They should concentrate on people eating in the restaurant and take less take-away orders as the kitchen can’t cope.

This pub is good to drink but the food is too expensive. 6 ribs for £9.10 not worth it and some staff is so rude

We booked table very early for special day . It’s not weekend, Ordered some seafood, they made a surprise! Friendly staff, lovely meal. Never let you down!

Eaten here a few times now, food is always exceptional, fresh and tasty. Staff very friendly, and not offering drinks every 5 minutes which you get with a lot of restaurants nowadays.Step to get in front door but staff happy to provide a portable ramp to gain access. Only slight downside is there is no disabled toilet but building regs wont allow it at the moment.

Absolutely fantastic. The menu offered gives such a varied selection and all of it is cooked to perfection. Staff are always polite, courteous and extremely efficient.

The tea smoked chicken was very yummy, the ribs was perfect cooked, my children liked the crispy duck, the water was very friendly. One waiter was very funny 😄.Worth visit.👍

My local Chinese resturante and pub. Pub bar staff are lovely and welcoming and the same goes for the resturante. T smoked chicken is amazing and rare to find as not many places do it. Always happy to change bits on menu if needed. Kitchen very clean and meat always cooked perfectly. 5 starts for this resturante yes it is quite expensive but you get what you pay for its delicious. I would recomnt this chinese to anyone who is after god chinese food. Yummy 5*

We visit here quite often and have always had great service and great food. The food has always been consistent and top notch. Have always found the staff to be very attentive and very polite. Wouldn't take to much notice of the negative views especially the one in September as we happened to be in the restaurant with my family on that same evening and had an excellent time. We often sit in the area by the toilets by choice as it's a bit quieter but still as equally good as the main restaurant.

Please avoid his restaurant where they are not only rude but also racist.

Order some special dishes,You need to order when you make a booking. Scallops, oysters, king prawns.What a lovely meal. The food was fantastic as usual again tonight.Luckily,didn’t believe the other reviews. I think they need to fix it. It is not the cheapest but the best Chinese meals available in the area. The service here is horrendous. Walked in and asked for a table of 4 and was ‘greeted’ by an incredibly rude man in the bar area who didn’t seem the slightest bit interested and just shrugged at me. I just walked straight out - I’m not being treated like that. From the looks of it, from the other reviews, it wasn’t just me that has been treated badly.

Good food but no service, plus an additional 10% charge for lack of service, waiters are quiet and un-engaging and seem to avoid customers unless your a regular, Food took way too long as they seem to prioritise takeaways, there was also about a 5 minute delay in one of our dishes which came out not as described on the menu but.

I’d avoid this place like that plague. Rang up to order food, repeated it 3 times as guy couldn’t speak English & kept saying dishes we did not order. Was told 30 mins but when we arrived 40 mins later food wasn’t ready & when it was given to us it was wrong. I tried to speak to the manager but he was rude and aggressive & told us to wait another 29 mins, when asked about our other food he shrugged his shoulders. Food was cold and bland when we got home, this place is more suited to Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares - I think we Gordon would struggle with this place. Save your money & AVOID!!!!

Went with the 'Special Offer' mid week menu as a family of five. Amazing selection of choices, ribs were so tender, recommend the Salt and Chilli ribs. Good service but had to keep asking for drinks to be replenished as they were more focused on food service. Best Chinese around by far!

Had many a takeaway from here as we live locally. It’s never been the cheapest but food has always been excellent, Prices are however creeping up more and more making it a very expensive takeout. Whilst the food is still good, not sure I would call it excellent.

Worst Chinese I have ever had the meat didn’t taste like meat and it went straight in the bin don’t buy their Chinese

Me and my family ordered a takeaway from the Golden Cross and it was easy to order and the man on the phone was helpful and helped my Dad with the orders. But, when we went there to pay it was a whopping £42 pounds. So we got home and opened our Chinese containers to see very small portions of Chinese food. It was delicious though and worth the visit but my bit constructive criticism is to make the portions a little bit bigger for price reasons.

The food here is outstanding and plenty of it too,staff are very welcoming and nothing is to much trouble,even if you do ask for a doggy bag to take home what you cant eat.

We have often ordered a takeaway from Golden Cross and although the service has always generally been hit and miss, the food is the best on offer in our area, in terms of Chinese cuisine.

We came here after a friend recommended it. The food is fantastic and the service is good. It's the best Chinese in the area and worth travelling the extra distance to. We have been here twice now and have not been disappointed.

We were nearly warned off by this restaurant's awful'website' - please fix it! Luckily we took the plunge for a lunch, after recalling a visit from years ago. The Christmas decorations livened up a rather bare chilly white eating area with mostly unsmiling servers; even the piped perennial Yuletide music helped on this occasion. The food was well-served - mixed appetizers were delicious, with special mention for the tea smoked chicken, spare ribs and prawn crackers. The main courses - Cantonese style pork and lamb with ginger and spring onion were plentiful ,tasty and well complemented with a dish of mixed noodles and vegetables. To drink, we had Stowmarket cider and Zero real ale, both fine. Prices were on the high end, especially including a 10% service charge but this was a superior meal, and we may well go again.

We have been a few times before and the food has always been v good. We particularly liked the scallops in various forms this time. However the service was some what lacking. The restaurant was not full by any means and it took ages for them to take our drinks orders. Subsequent drinks orders were equally difficult to obtain. Food orders were the same speed and service was too slow. We expect better especially at the prices they charge. And they could at least smile

Extremely good quality Chinese meal restaurant Certainly would use it again for a special event or similar.

We ordered chicken with cashew nuts and szechuan chicken dishes as part of our main course. In both dishes, the chicken meat had a soft, rubbery, processed texture and the pieces strongly resembled pre-supplied chicken pieces. Jamie Oliver would have had a coronary as it tasted just like those poor chicken nuggets he used to bang on about on TV!

Phoned up and left request for a booking at 7.30 2 days ago asked for text confirmation and did not here a thing, called today 13th to be told could not do 7.30 but 8 and that they had called! Nothing on my phone. So excepted 8. Got there at 7.35 said we had a 8 pm booking, the man told us there. Pointing to a table, no thank you for coming or any kind of greeting or politeness. So we sat down, 15 minutes later someone finally asked if we wanted a drink. My wife said yes a glass of wine, finally she had to say a glass of white wine!! Another 15 minutes and still no one came to see about taking our order. So we paid for the drinks and left. We had been told by many at this was a great place for Chinese food. We will not be going back. The service was basically rude. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Went out for hubby's birthday food was good as usual but service was poor not enough staff to cope with over 50 people 3 staff not enough to manage all the takeaways as well as serve seated customers.

I'm spoilt to be able to use this restaurant. The staff are lovely, the food exquisite. If you want good quality Chinese, why try anywhere else.

We had a delicious lunch at the Golden Cross today.

We called in on our way back from Cambridge on a Tuesday, we have not been for a long time and remembered the place was good. We were met by the waiter who begrudgingly asked if we had booked, as there were plenty of tables available - this surprised me! We said if it was a problem we could go elsewhere, he sighed, looked at his booking list and showed us to a table. All the other staff seemed helpful & friendly but we were obviously inconveniencing him. We stayed - the food was as good as we remember but service with a smile would go a long way. We will not return in a hurry.

Went with family for a birthday meal!! The service was excellent, very attentive friendly staff!! Food was very tasty and the portions were ample!! Not cheap but good value for money!!

Premises could do with a make over but the food is excellent hot and very tasty, portion sizes were perfect. Wait staff were attentive given the restaurant was packed and was also serving take outs. Will defiantly return again and again.

My wife and I visited here for our 10th wedding anniversary as it was the place we had our first date.

I had read previous reviews from a while ago, which were mixed, so went with an open mind, but I needn't have worried as the food was fabulous and the service was excellent. I don't normally eat spare ribs, but given that we ordered a set menu I thought I'd give one a try. It was so succullent and tasty that I ate two! One of my all-time favourites has always been duck in pancakes and that, too, was gorgeous. All in all we had a super meal. The waiter was great and liked to have a joke, so the evening was very relaxed. It was a lovely treat and we will definitely go back again.

Visited with my son and his partner. The food was totally delicious, service was as we wanted it, leisurely. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will visit again soon.

Came here for a birthday meal. Booked a table just before we went, lucky we got one on a busy Saturday evening! The food and service was excellent, one of the best Chinese restaurants I have been to. I will definitely come back!

A previous visit to this restaurent was quite some time ago so a revisit was a must for a nice treat for a birthday celebration.

If you have never eaten authentic Peking or Cantonese food, then may I recommend Golden Cross Great Barford.

Well established village Chinese restaurant in a former pub. Food is good but would struggle in London's Chinatown. For a gastronomic desert like Bedford it's a change from the normal doldrums dish-outs though, this principally because the owner is the chef and that's unusual in most oriental places these days. Dishes like their tea-smoked chicken and the lemon chicken are a pleasure.

Tow of us had Wonton soup and pork ribs in honey for starters. The Ribs were not sickly sweet. We had duck with cashew nuts and another dish with lamb. Everytihng was tasty and fresh tasting.

Visiting again it is easy to see that the excellent quality of food and service has been maintained. Would fully recommend to all.

Visited early on a Saturday evening, been to this restaurant several times before. Meal is always a very good one. Service is attentive but not very fast. Not recommended if in a hurry. But, worth the wait when it does arrive. Will definitely return.

It has become a little bit of a tradition over the past couple of years to come here around Valentines as many of our group of friends have birthdays around this time.

Easily the best Chinese around. Everything cooked to perfection, friendly staff and really good service. Yes it's a bit out of town but well worth the trip. Not the cheapest but you always pay more for quality

Had a lovely evening out with friends for Xmas. There was six of us and we had one of the set meals. It was very tasty and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are lovely and have a good sense of humour. We had such a lovely time we took our children back the following week as it was our son birthday. Yet again a fabulous evening

5 of us went for a pre-Christmas get together and we couldn’t have been more impressed with the food. We had starters, duck and mains and couldn’t find fault with a single dish. The ribs on the starter platter were particularly good.

Visited with many friends, ate the Christmas set menu, the food was delicious, the service was just right, leisurely yet prompt. The evening was lively and the restaurant handled it very well. I would definitely recommend and will revisit with my family and friends.

We've been here several times both with friends, family and as a couple and its always been delicious! Can't fault the staff or the food, and they're always very accommodating. Takeaway is also excellent and follows the same menu as the restaurant...only issue is that it's not available online so you have to visit and get a paper copy first so you can see all the dishes specific to them (for example the tea smoked chicken, which I would highly recommend!).

Went as a party of 10 to celebrate a birthday , we are locals we have been many times before however not as good as it once was .

Visited for birthday meal with partner and had a lovely meal. Great menu choices with some Thai dishes thrown in for good measure. Special meal offers from 6 till 9 Monday to Thursday are also available. The food was well cooked and well presented, served by friendly, helpful staff. Tasted great too. Well worth a visit.

I have been to the Golden Cross several times and the food is really lovely. On the last occasion, I went to order a Take Away with friends and the food was soon cooked and stored in good containers so that there was no spillage on the way home. I would recommend the Golden Cross to anyone who enjoys Chinese food. It is always tasty and the meat is so tender it melts in your mouth.

Nice place. Disappointed that no Cotswold Rarebit left so had Mussels instead. Tasty but cider sauce a bit strong. Lots of mussels not opened and should have been served in a bowl, not a plate. Great fries. My partner had bubble & squeak with poached egg but as small portion had chips. All good for him. All over, pleasant.

Esperamos hasta las 9:00 pm para nuestra orden, para finalmente llegar. No era como si el lugar estaba reventando en el parece con clientes. Alrededor del 70% de las mesas son ocupados, y unas cuantas personas de recoger los pedidos.

We were so shocked at how much they were charging. People seem happy to pay what they charges. Over £6 for prawn toast that was only one slice of bread? We thought it was ridiculous. Discovered when home we were also overcharged. The price does not match the service. Staff joking and messing around. Seemed to be flirting with eachother! Fist and last time we will ever visit here.

We came for my mums birthday, the food was ok but the chicken diddnt taste like chicken.We were not asked if we wanted another drink and we left before we were offered the desert menu after 30 mins of waiting for someone to ask!I would not return.

What a lovely meal, taken at a leisurely pace. The prawns in orange sauce were exceptional. Service was very good and waiters were attentive.

I visited with my family this past Saturday and whilst the food was great the service was a let down. Had to wait 10 minutes after been seated to be given menus and when they arrived we only received 3 for a table of 5 we were asked if we would like any drinks and when they arrived one was missing we also had to ask for extra ice and lemon for a tonic water which never arrived until my mother went to the bar and still had to explain twice what she wanted. My partner and daughter can't use chop sticks so asked for some cutlery to be met with a look of what the hell are you talking about until they explained they wanted a fork and spoon it wasn't going to click. Yeah It's almost as if these young girls had been given little if any training. And one of them would apologise for everything to the point it was getting a little tedious. As I said though maybe with some training they may improve the final details. Overall and enjoyable and entertaining evening not cheap but you do get a lot of food for your money. Would happily return.

Visited last night as a last minute. It is a restaurant attached to a pub. Wine list was fairly standard with a varied choice. I checked the dishes on other tables on the way in and all looked fine. We ordered starter platter for two which was very nice although the sweet and sour sauce looked fluorescent. The mixed seafood roll was disappointing with prawn and fish stick inside. Main course was prawn ginger and spring onion and a stir fried mixed veg. Safe but lovely. Staff were friendly and attentive. Overall, worth a visit.

This has to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. The tea smoked chicken as start is wonderful. We had the mid week offer which is great value, and means you have a vast selection of dishes to choose from, although, a bit expensive it was very tasty, customer service very attentive. Worth a visit.

Stopped for a light lunch with my Mum and young Daughter we ordered our favourite dishes: Chiu Yim King Prawns and Tea Smoked Chicken - delicious!

Stopped off Saturday night 29/04, impromptu visit, after visiting many times over the years, very disappointed on this occasion.The welcome was not particularly warm, we felt as if it was an inconvenience walking in, but we got over it.Duck was good as usual buts that's where it ended. We followed this with special fried rice, special chow mein, along with beef with gInger and spring onions.All the meat was over cooked and dry and the beef was mainly chewy throughout, and the chow mein was a bit bland.Would always have recommended in the past, would be reluctant to do so going forward.

Visited due to its top rating here and did not get disappointed.The restaurant has the typical set up of what you would expect from your local Chinese, but the food really gives this place its credits. Quality ingredients, freshly cooked, well-presented and very tasty. Service is good, fast and polite; could do with a smile, but cannot fault it really.Looking forward to visit again.Would recommend to family and friends.

Visited here with friends last weekend and after having to wait for weeks to get a table we were all sadly let down feeling, what's the fuss about. Arrived and table was ready and drinks order taken very quickly then it went down hill.Starters came out one by one with about a 5 minute gap in-between but by the time the last starter (there was 4 of us) came out the first was stone cold and one of our party had eaten theirs!then came the mains, or as it happended, didn't. again the rice and noodles came out and nothing more, we all sat smiling at each other so asked one of the staff for our mains and they smiled, wlaked away and didn't come back. At this point I raised my voice a little and demanded our mains so again about 5 minutes later they came out, 2 by two with a 5 minute gap only to find mine, yes mine, was missing. My wife told me to be patient and don't keep asking them but it never arrived so one of our party had pretty much finished and I'm waiting for my mains. I called the staff over and they simply looked puzzled and pointed to one of our mains trying to explain that that was mine. it wasn't. they reluctantly made me another mains and now I had stone cold noodles (remember they were put out first some 20 minute ago) so just ate a bit and left the rest.Very disappointed and overpriced for what it is, or trying to be. If you want good Chinese food then try the Golden Dragon in Bedford, never had a bad meal there.Oh, check your bill as well. We noticed they had charged us twice for the mains that went missing and the table across form us was charged for more drinks than they had.

This was not our first visit to this excellent Chinese restaurant and returned because of the very good cuisine cooking we have had before.Also, the restaurant is set out as a Chinese restaurant should be with proper table cloths, napkins, chopsticks, albeit knives and forks are available for those who don`t use chopsticks. Prices are above possibly what one would expect to pay but the four of use opted for one of the set menus (as we have on previous visits) of various courses which cost £24.50 per head and represents good value for money. The selection of food was excellent, all very well cooked indeed and more than enough for us with even some being left over. A dish of freshly cut fruits is served to cleanse the palette at the end of the meal with jasmine tea also being served if requested.Drinks prices are as one would expect and not outlandish.One point which I find hard to understand is that when the bill arrives there is a service charge of 10% added - for the staff, it says.However, when paying there is also a section called "Gratuities" . Why pay again for service which has already been paid for?However, a very lovely evening out which will not be our last visit to this restaurant.
