I used to frequent this chippy regularly and went there after many years whilst back in town. Whilst the fish and chips are still excellent in taste, the tables and chairs were filthy, salt all over the chairs and no one seemed to be cleaning them. The plates that the meals are served on are more like side plates than dinner plates. Disappointing about the establishment as the food is still tasty

Took my daughter in as she likes the chips to take away now and again. Wish I'd not bothered, staff were very rude, highly unwelcoming. The place itself felt grubby, the food was dry and unappetising, had to pay for sauce sachets even though we sat in and this seemed too much trouble for the young girl who served us to provide. I'm sure I'd have had a better experience in a prison canteen.

After walking past this place for a while I decided to go in with the folks and see what it was like and I was not disappointed, you order your food first at the counter and then they shout your order number when your food is ready, I ordered fish chips peas and curry and the portion was huge and fresh. It’s rare to find good fish and chips these days and this place I would definitely go back to.

As I approached the chippy the woman working there was smoking a cig outside the chippy and was on the phone. She then said it’s only takeaway only, we went in and she followed us in and came off her phone and served our food without washing her hands after she had smoked a cig which is disgusting. She was very unfriendly and was only interested in taking the money and getting us out as there was a others waiting, as they was closing in the next 30 minutes! The food was absolutely disgusting I ended up binning it and going elsewhere. Best of luck to anyone that visits

Pleasant enough fish and chips but portions not large enough to justify the £5 cost. I feel that £1.75 for a tray of chips (not even full) is too expensive. I’m not sure what fish cost elsewhere but in Gold Medal they are £3.25 and not especially large. I enjoyed it but won’t be rushing back.

I had not been in this sit down chippy with plastic diner style seating for a number of years. You go up to the counter to order your food, from a range of traditional northern english fish and chip shop ingredients.I had fish(did not say what fish. guessing cod?), chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. A decent portion of well cooked golden brown and tasty chips,a lovely piece of fish full of flavour and a good sized portion(guessing cod), as they did not say, a decent flavourful curry sauce, washed down with a can of orange tango. My son had fish and chips enjoyed his, could not eat all the fish as he had such a large potion. They do a range of pies, including a rag pudding( a bit like a steak and kidney pudding), which is well worth trying. A range of drjnks.Friendly and polite service and very good value.Recommended.

Absolute rubbish! I went in tonight with my partner after really fancying a chippy tea.We were told there was a wait for chips which was fine. I ordered fish, chips and peas for my partner and just a portion of chips for me. We got home and on unwrapping them, I was really disappointed with the paltry soggy portion of chips I had been given. On top of this, my partner found his fish was missing. I had to run back to ask for it and when I did bring it back, it was really thin and he was disappointed. A real waste of £7.00.To be fair, I should have avoided the place after another incident I had when I sat in there with my partner and his kids. I ordered cheese and onion pie and chips and when the waitress brought it over, there was gravy all over the chips. I told her I didn't want it as I hadn't asked for gravy and don't like it. She then argued with me that I had and was also loudly telling her colleagues that I had asked for gravy, even though I hadn't. You shouldn't argue with customers, you just apologise and change the order. To be fair, when I got the correct order, it was really nice so that's why I went back tonight but that was the last time.I shall stick to the chippy near The Advertiser office from now on.

The aroma drags you in on any day. Even if your not hungry. We visit on a regular basis whilst shopping in the town centre. The fish and chips are always fresh. The seating inside is a little cramped but just about ok. No space for strollers or wheelchairs. You pay a premium for sitting in but it's not extortionate. It bugs me that you have to pay extra for ketchup, why?? It's a condiment not an extra side like mushy peas.

We have been to this chippy several times whilst shopping in Ashton centre. The food is really lovely but prices for take out appear to be a bit expensive. As far as service ( and we seem to get the same woman every time)you are greeted with the words " what do ya want?" -and it really is quite shocking and takes you aback! Now I know busyness could be used as an excuse but we were the only ones waiting to be served. For all we know she may be the owner and thinks it is ok to speak to people in this manner but if she was my member of staff and I heard the way she spoke to customers she would know this is not acceptable.

We found the Gold Medal by typing 'FISH' into the SatNav after visiting IKEA, which is just around the corner from it.The fish was cooked to order and was fantastic, but the chips used for our meals were the last of a batch and, unfortunately, weren't the best.At £4.50/portion, they were very good value for money and I would happily recommend the Gold Medal to anyone.

They only have 5 check outs that are Partial staffed all the rest are self serve so if you have a trolley full then prepare to stand in line for 30 mins or go queue at the self serve for 30 mins and struggle with some where to place your scanned shopping while looking for the 1 assistant to help with a problem while they are dealing with the other 20 problems. Absolute mayhem in there Saturday morning. They have even converted the kiosk into self serve, machines dispense vapes and tobacco items, lotto tickets you purchase from a self serve desk now. Very expensive, always empty shelves and they keep replacing branded products with there own brand with no option to buy the branded items. They are scamming people into buying asda products at the same or higher price than a branded product. You can actually find product cheaper in Sainsbury's and that is saying something. The veg is never fresh and does not last much fresher in lidl which is across the road. Dates on dairy products are always very short compared to competitors. There are also a lot of items subject to shrinkflation (look it up) Pack of 4 onions is now a pack of 3 onions for the same price. The so called offers are not offers be careful and do the maths a 1kilo of butter could be cheaper if you buy 2 500gram packs of the same even though the large one is on so called offer. The fact they have taken so many tills away and added the scan your own system is stupid, they are forcing there customers to do the work and this puts people out of work. Update. Called in Asda Ashton today AM, it was discusting the amount of empty card board boxes/trays that were on the shelfs and floor there was more empty than full it is a disgrace and an accident waiting to happen some poor person will fall because of the mess. Asda poor attempt at making the shelfs look full. Most recent Asda scam advertise items as £1 but on the shelf they range from £3, the £1 item is on the bottom shelf very deceiving. See photo. So Asda are removing all the manned check out from there stores Ashton is a pilot store for this, today they had only 5 left you are expected to use the self check out with a full shopping trolly. The queues were up the isles. Self check out tills were mayhem. If it stays this way I will not shop here. Frozen produce left in isle. Visited today and the cream eggs took more priority than customers being able to walk through checkout, the gate was part closed in the way.

This McDonalds have just been refurbished, but seriously I would not bother. I paid £17 and waited 11 minutes for cold dry chips, the cheese bites smelt like BBQ and were hard and I’d ordered a McPlant meal for a vegetarian that was missing the McPlant burger when I arrived home. The staff were too busy making food for each other instead of making sure orders were complete and hot from paying customers. I asked where my order was and was told it was sat waiting, for two drinks! Will be driving that extra few miles to Gorton where food is always spot on. I did report this on the app, but didn’t seem to get anywhere.
