Gochu Japanese Restaurant And Bar in Wyre

This was our 2nd visit to Gochu, the menu had changed which was good because there are different choices. It was quiet & relaxing when we arrived, shown to our table & provided food & drinks menus. Food arrives as it's cooked which is fine, not rushed with meals, empty plates are removed with permission to keep the table clear. Because it's a small space when more customers arrive it gets noisier & warmer. We enjoyed our food, service was great as usual from.Lottie & Erin. We will return again in the future 🤩

Very disappointing x Visited to celebrate a birthday. The staff seemed clueless about the menu and poorly trained on basic service. The food portions for the price were tiny. No guidance was given on ordering just that it came when ready. The tastes were ok but nothing really outstanding for the price. A varied menu with decent choices. Asked several times for water and had to remind about five times before it was brought. WORST thing was I’d booked a birthday plate and this didn’t arrive so I reminded the waitress who went to check . She returned with the bill saying even though it was booked the kitchen hadn’t prepared it and forgot and now they didn’t have time 😡😡😡 no apology .. nothing The bill was £200 between 4 of us and we won’t be rushing back. Not impressed at all. I did e mail about the above but as yet no reply !!!

Lovely dinner. Deserts were super good too. Jess who served us was fab! :)

Shame Gochu isn’t open Saturdays for lunch as food is generally v good.

Probably the best restaurant in the Fylde. I'm surprised you've not gone for a rosette... Been in multiple times but the tasting menu we attended was incredible and such a great price. Just fantastic... The food especially, the service was fantastic and the drinks were great. Cannot fault this place. Absolutely love it, wish I could give it more stars

For food, I rate it as one of the best restaurants for quality in the Fylde coast, easily! The food is delicious and it never disappoints each time we’ve dined here. The restaurant and bars are sleek and modern in appearance, a dark atmosphere befitting of a high-quality restaurant in a major city. I’ve eaten in restaurants in Spinngfields, Manchester and London. The standard of the food especially, and the attractiveness of the restaurant, wouldn’t be or look out of place in these locations. It’s also very central in Poulton, a perfect spot near the bars, train station, taxi rank etc. On a small downside, I must say I think the service at times could be better and some of the tables are too close to each other of where you can be virtually sat on strangers laps! Being a restaurant on the smaller side, this is understandable that the owners/managers will want to squeeze as many tables in as possible to maximise profits and demand, but it can feel squashed, especially if there’s only two of you dining. It can be a little bit uncomfortable. That’s the only area of the restaurant that needs improvement/change in my opinion. Overall a few subtle changes and this place would be flawless, but I still can’t wait to eat here again soon. Devine grub! 5 stars for the amazing food.

Outstanding meal tonight. Our waitress, Kate, was lovely. The food was delicious and we had no problem choosing from a wide range of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. We will definitely be returning.

All I can say is wow!! Amazing service from the door until the end! We were welcomed in by the host who I presume is the manager - talked through the menu by a polite, friendly and professional waitress, who recommended a number of side dishes each. We ordered 8 dishes between two, each were tasty and cooked to perfection - came out separately but in good time so all could be enjoyed. The special treat was the DJ’s on the ground floor who we enjoyed a drink with before and after our meal. The venue in itself is classy and the different experience given by each floor meant we had the full Asian-Fusion experience - all in our home town of Poulton le Fylde! Thank you Gochu for a great date night!! Special shout-out to Geo and Muskaan whose carefully crafted specials were delightful! We can’t wait to return this time next month.

Booked this place to visit with my girlfriend for my birthday. Entrance to restaurant was strange with no atmosphere, host was elsewhere and wasn't welcomed warmly by the bartender behind the bar. Was took upstairs to the Rooftop to be crammed in to an area with far too many tables for the space. Fit out was ok on this place with money spent in some areas but poor decisions in others, the tables were cheap and plastic feeling, the seating moved away from the wall and the tables looked half set with no chop stick pebbles to rest on. Drinks options were ok and tasted nice and came within a reasonable time. Food, only thing we liked was the gyozas. Chicken balls in sweet chilli had no flavour when bitten in too, beef fillet was tasteless and basic seasoning missed, bao buns were really poor quality buns, not sticky like fresh bins are and the pork belly burnt. £138 felt like robbery for what we had, Wagamammas is better, but such a shame as this place could be amazing... Service was the best part about our trip, all the staff seemed keen to provide great service and were extremely attentive...

AMAZING! We’ve eaten here twice now and both meals have been utterly gorgeous!! Small plates so you can try lots of things. Great drinks menu and fab cocktails. Can’t recommend this place enough. We will be regulars for sure.

An absolute gem in poulton, food was so good that my date couldn't finish half the dishes. We will return to finish off the menu.

A small looking restaurant from the front, but the inside does not disappoint. Dark and moody decor is met by slithers of bright LEDs and lamps. The rooftop bar is tight but the windows make it feel bigger. The main dining room again is narrow but you don't feel squashed in like some other restaurants. Our waiting staff Eva was friendly answered any questions we had and explain the menu great. She recommended 2-3 small plates each or 1 big plate and 1-2 small plates each. I ordered 2 small plates, 1 small sushi, 1 large plate and a snack, for me it was the perfect amount of food. All the food portion sized were fitting to their price comparison and all of it tasted amazing. One of the letdowns was the size of the sushi, considering 4 sushi pieces was £10~, I expected them to be a bit bigger in size, but they were the smallest sushi I've ever seen. Overall I will come back to this restaurant in the future. The price to taste is excellent and everything tasted amazing.

Food was nice, very slow, 1 meal at a time, does not come out together, we sat down at 8.30, and food was coming out 1 at a time, waited 40 minutes for the pork belly bao buns then 15 minutes later my chips arrived, drinks took 30 minutes to come which we had to ask where our was as our group nearly finished their before we got ours, when we had all eaten individually the last person got their meal 1 hour later, he was left sat eating on his own, had to ask the staff to make sure the rice came out with the chicken as it was being brought out in random order leaving someone sat with just cauliflower and 20 minutes later the rest of their meal came out, confused us more as we had to tell them what we was ordering beforehand, so couldnt understand why we all couldn't eat the meals we had chosen together let alone the meals being together as a meal, not separate. Would not return, what a shame as the food was tasty

Poor quality of food Bad service we been in at 7:30pm and ordered food before 8pm . We waited for our food to arrive over hour and half and I have to get off my table to finding the service girl behind the bar and asked for our food . Quickly she rushed down to kitchen and coming back with roast pork belly ramen soup but food is very cold noodles all mushy and next dish came after about 10 minutes later call beef shorts ribs noodles but isn’t turned up like what I ordered it only flat white noodles with nothing else in it no short rib no eggs I had said to same girl to find out of my correct dish but she running down to the kitchen and never came back to my table again . Keep waiting for my other food been waiting for Tuna Sashimi,beef sirloin sashimi and it never been served. The last one is crispy squid we have . Because it getting very late night and we been waiting so long I been giving up to find out about food and we so hungry and tired. My husband so hungry and he have to eat mushy noodles .After that we leave restaurant immediately and never look to going back for food there again. We have no alcohol night no one drinks because we have young children at home. I still keep receipts I let you know what we have and how much we pay. Diet Coke £5.50 Guava rose £5.50 Crispy squid £10.50 It served. Beef sirloin makt 1/2 £9. No served. Tuna sashimi tartare £12. No served. Roast pork belly ramen £22 It served but cold and noodles all mushy. Beef short ribs noodles ma £22. No served. Total Due £86.50 . No apologies ! No one there asked how your food tastes? Un professional . Feeling like everyone doesn’t want to work ,don’t feel comfortable and welcome in at all.

Pre booked for a party of 9 for 9:30pm and they moved us forward to 9pm instead. From 9pm-10pm we ordered our starters and got served our food at around 9:45pm, we all had a starter each and a few bottles of wine between us. When ordering the food initially we said we’d keep the menu so we could order the mains as the plates come out ‘as and when they are ready’ but we were not ready for a main just yet. We called the server over to order another bottle of wine and our mains to be told the kitchen is shut, bare in mind this was only at 10pm. Standard practice is that you have a table for 2hours and we had a large party. We were not warned that the kitchen would be closing so soon and unsure as to why you are able to book for food at 9:30pm if the kitchen shuts 30 minutes later. We were then presented with a bill for £360 for starters and a few bottles and the manager had the cheek to give us a trip advisor card so here we are. Perhaps this ‘restaurant’ should have continued to be a chippy, that way we wouldn’t have had to get a takeaway

Lovely food and the place gives great vibes.

Rubbish seriously over rated . Everyone in there was drunk loud over bareing . No taste bud when drunk . Or they eat dog meat at home its horried end off

50th Birthday celebration with 11 family members and friends for Sunday lunch. My starter (beef fillet with rice & mushrooms) was outstanding - worth every penny - and the Sunday lunch (a traditional roast with a Japanese-style twist) was also delicious (broccoli, sugarsnaps and pak choi arrived in serving bowls after I’d taken the photo). I don’t usually have a sweet, but treated myself to the sticky toffee pudding (to take away, except that within about five minutes of its arrival at the table, my willpower utterly disintegrated and I’d scoffed the lot!) We had a great time and everyone enjoyed their food. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Had tapas style 6 dishes. Stated well first good then downhill, burnt pancake under second, heavy doughy rice on sushi, crispy beef very hard tasteless noodles. Food prices ok IF the food quality matched it. £7.50 for 175 ml ordinary wine bit heavy. Dark inside couldn't read the menu. Batarea v.small with poor uncomfortable high stools. Idea's good but needs improving to survive. Too many others offering better value for money.

Got too our table given menus and asked for water. Asked about drinks and took nearly 45 minutes before they arrived after asking again where they were. Took our order, 1 small plate and 2 small orders. Arrived 30 minutes apart. Shame about the service as the food is very good. Improve the service!!

Amazing place and I will be back. Some of the dishes are outstanding others not so much. Sirloin fries are a must.

Japanese influence menu - not cheap but well worth the money. Very friendly staff and good atmosphere. We will be revisiting this venue.

At £15 for 4 pieces of steak, I expect 4 pieces not 3…. On ordering 2 desserts, I expect 2 to arrive at the table not 1. Subsequently on being presented the bill, I was charged for 2 desserts and had to ask the waitress to amend it. To summarise, excellent food but overpriced because the service was just not up to scratch.

Atmosphere was OK food came at different times and was sparce went for an 18th birthday £116 later with 1 cocktail 1 glass of house wine 1 coke 1 lemonade came home after an hour and ended up cooking... not the best place to go... and if you want feeding don't bother going.

Been a few times and because of the food and service it's now my favourite local restaurant. A fantastic addition to the town. The service is always great and the food fresh and flavoursome. The signature cocktails are sophisticated, highly recommend the cherry blossom martini. I also love the karaage cauliflower florets I order them every time they are that good. Book a table on the rooftop bar if you can. Very much looking forward to my next visit.

Absolutely stunning food. Amazing flavours, great atmosphere and staff were lovely. The wine glasses are gorgeous (as was the pinot grigio rosé!) and the little details made it a very enjoyable evening, already booked in another couple of weeks 👏🏻

Having been to Gochu before we decided to to book for Mother's Day and we chose the Sunday Roast option on the menu. I have to say it was exceptional. The infusion of flavours on a what would normally be a standard roast dinner was sublime. There were other small dishes available too. Like before, we received excellent service throughout, and the whole atmosphere and ambiance just topped off a fantastic Mother's day out for my wife. We will definitely return this outstanding restaurant.

Unexpected British Japanese in the countryside, that alone deserves a star. The second is for service. The third star for the range of gluten-free dishes and the fourth for the overall interesting variations of starters and main courses. Unfortunately there is no fifth place because it was very cold and drafty in the restaurant, which didn't change even after changing seats and detracted from the comfort.

The best Sticky toffee pudding I have ever had, hands down.

Sushi lovely. Pork ramen was unfortunately under flavoured despite asking for spicy, and noodles overcooked. Chicken curry was bland...didn't expect too much flavour but I was really disappointed.There was no hint at all of any spice or flavour. The rice was overcooked...left most of it and to be honest, I'm not that fussy at all and it takes a lot for me to feel the need to complain at all. . Very noisy and our small group of 4 could hardly hear ourselves speak, and we were cold. So disappointed as it was my 60th birthday treat, and after spending £195 for 4 of us which included only 1 bottle of wine, half a lager and 1 cocktail I'm afraid I will not be hurrying back. Sorry. This review was changed by someone other than me. I put the review on 5 days ago, and it says the review was put on 2 days ago. I gave it a 1 star and it was changed to a 3 star. Just thought I'd mention it and report if necessary

Absolutely lovely meal. Had the Sunday roast with Japanes twist

Been to Gochu a couple of times since it opened, gets better every time, which, you can understand for a new business. Service was great, staff friendly, and food amazing. We have been to Australasia in Manchester and Gochu food quality wise (in our opinion) is as at least as good but, better value. We will be back.

Been here 3 times now and I must say I believe it to be the best place to eat on the Fylde Coast. Food is perfect every time, the staff are always lovely, and the restaurant itself is a beautiful, modern and cosy place to be. Top floor is my favourite, followed by middle floor. Food recommendations: fillet steak, crispy squid, salt and pepper king prawn bao buns. 10/10

Having been to Japan this certainly was not authentic, cook on his phone then handling food , no continuity in service, meat good quality but flavours lacked depth , overall a disappointing experience

We found this place as a last minute place to eat when arriving for our stay! The staff accomadated us getting a table and from start to finish was an amazing visit! Staff were AMAZING! Very attentive and just great customer service. The food was also some of the best Japanese food I've had. One of the highlights of our trips! Would highly recommend visiting!

Very modern and clean environment greeted with a warm welcome, the staff were brilliant and offered some great suggestions. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing and the food was delicious and very well presented. Really enjoyed our visit If you're looking for amazing food in Poulton this is the place to go.

We visit at least once a month. This is definitely one of our favourite places to eat. The food is fantastic. On every occasion we literally can not fault the quality or the service. I would definitely recommend gochu to any of my friends. Fabulous!

Booked a terrace table for my birthday a few weeks ago, food was absolutely incredible and very reasonably priced. Staff were lovely but service for drinks was a little slow, however will definitely visit again and have already recommended to a few people

Very over rated. We waited 2 hours for our food and we even pre booked. The food came out as and when which is lazy and badly managed by the establishment as we all pre booked. The whole experience was very average and overrated. A chef was even spotted getting chicken from Aldi across the road.

If you are willing to spend a decent amount of money the this is definitely your place! Ordering multiple dishes is best as well as trying to book on the top floor as during the day and evening can have an amazing view. The food was the highlight of my time as well as the lovely kind staff. Highly recommend if you want a good experience and atmosphere as well as brilliant food!

Great service and outstanding food.

After booking in advance for a terrace table we were a little let down that we we given a bar table in a busy thoroughfare. They did seat us at a proper table eventually but the initial experience did make me feel let down after booking and requesting a table weeks in advance. The sun and heat and lack of shade also made the dining experience less relaxing as one of us always had the sun in our eyes. Regardless of the setting the food was good, nothing too outstanding and the modern twists on some of the food were questionable. I wouldn’t call it all authentic Japanese food. Can see why it is popular and is catering to a certain demographic. Probably won’t visit again.

The food was excellent as was the ambience which in turn matched the friendly nature of the staff.

OVERPRICED, AVERAGE FOOD, POOR SERVICE We booked a table for 21:30, we were told we could arrive earlier for drinks and a table would most likely be available before our allotted time slot. However, we were left waiting at the ‘bar’ which was a few stools facing a white wall. Despite booking for 3 people, the incompetent manager offered us a table for 2 for some reason? Furthermore, we were only seated at 21:55 (almost an hour waiting) While waiting for our drinks, one of the waitresses spilt a drink on myself and over the table, she did not bother to replace the drink, despite half of it being spilt, nor did she offer to clean it up, we were just handed a napkin. The menu was overpriced for the quantity of food. There were limited sushi options available, despite purporting to be a Japanese restaurant and the menu lacked an authentic Japanese feel. Food was average, nothing notably special. Restaurant seemed to be overrun with staff, however, they seemed to be of no use to the running of the restaurant. One of the waitresses said that due to our long wait for a table, we would get free drinks for the inconvenience, however, they were never taken off the bill. Could have been a bad night, but from personal experience would avoid.

Fabulous place but wine and drinks pricey

After hearing some great reviews of the new Japenese restaurant in Poulton we were excited to try out their cuisine. After looking at the menu online the food sounded great and we managed to book a last minute table. On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome and taken to the upper floor where we ordered drinks while waiting for the table. The atmosphere was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful, but unfortunately thats where the positive review ends. Their was an odd greasy smell on the way up to the stairs....like a deep fat fryer. The waitress advised us on the menu options and suggested to either order tapas style or main meals. We opted for the tapas so we could try multiple dishes and ordered the following: Pork quavers - tasted ok. Crispy Squid - wasn't very crispy and a little chewy. Sticky rice with Japanese curry - tasted ok Gochu loaded fries with salt and pepper - tasted ok although looked more like a Mexican dish rather than Japanese. Chicken skewers - bland with no flavour Bao bun soft shell crab - didn't taste of crab The waitress stated the food might not all arrive at once and it would be served as and when it's ready. The only problem with this approach is the rice and chips arrived a good 10 minutes after the first dish was served. Overall, the food didn't appear to be very Japanese and lacked a sense of authenticity. The food is OK....its just ok and we wasn't left with any urge to return any time soon which was disappointing.

Very decent, some room for improvement. Went in to get a quick meal with my family. Ordered a salmon roll, loaded fries and korean boneless chicken. Overall the meal was good, the decor was nice and tasteful and the staff was accomodating and efficient. Despite being well prepared all of the dishes lacked that "something" that would elevate it to 5 stars (considering the price). The salmon roll was good, it did have chives in it which I think is a mistake but the chives flavour didn't overpower the dish so I can overlook it. Japanese style pork belly loaded fries is a good idea but the quality of the pork belly fell a bit short as it lacked that signature crunch and crispiness. The Korean chicken was slightly disappointing, it had strong flavour but it was incredibly sweet, I know Korean chicken dishes are usually sweet but they are usually complimented with strong heat or cheese flavours. Overall good with some room for improvement. Oh and book in advance that place fills up fast.

Wow!! We visited on Saturday and were seated in the top terrace! The interior was beautiful and had a lovely Cosy feel! We ordered lots of little dishes and I couldn’t fault a single thing. The salmon sushi was so fresh and full of flavour and the pork boa buns were the best I have ever had!!! (Honestly will be dreaming about them). The staff were lovely and super attentive. We just need a Gochu in Sheffield now please!

Atmosphere was great, place looks amazing. Service was brilliant and food was very tasty and filling! Highly recommended for a change from norm.

We had a selection of small dishes which were all amazing with some much flavour, I couldn’t pick a favourite! The food is excellent and staff were so nice and helpful. We sat in the heated terrace which was lovely. Couldn’t recommend enough for a great dining experience. We will defiantly be back!

Amazing experience, the whiskey selection incredible. Japanese whisky which isn’t available in every bar you see. Not to mention the food, made the experience even better! Can I recommend the bao buns because they are really mouth watering. Last thing I would like to say is the management and staff and incredibly accommodating, they really go that extra mile. A must visit if you’re in poulton!

Very chilled place, good decor, with really nice, friendly staff. Not the cheapest of places to drink but it's got a nice atmosphere & the drinks are extremely good. There's a wide variety of cocktails on offer to suit most palates, however the menu was missing my favourite cocktail - the white Russian, which is a real shame. Coffee is very good here but the hot chocolate wasn't very hot. Toilets nice & clean with hand sanitizer on the wall as you enter the bar from the main entrance. Over all it's a great place to have an evening cocktail.

Nothing but a 5 star review. Restaurant is beautifully designed. First floor was used as the waiting area, second floor where we had our meal and the third was the bar- which for us was the perfect flow! The food was incredible! It had a 'street food' feel to it, but at restaurant quality! Loved the bayo buns and calamari!! Staff were really welcoming. Will most definitely visit again 😍

I ordered the KARAAGE CAULIFLOWER FLORETS (Ve), which was ok but would not have it again. The sauce which it came with was nice. I then ordered the BEEF BAVETTE YAKI UDON, the noodles were soggy, and the beef was tiny and chewy, and had a sour taste to it. I think I ate two slices, definitely not worth £17, however on the good side the staff were very nice and welcoming, cocktails were also nice, but the place is definitely overrated.

This place is new, good atmosphere and service. Amazing food. The only reason it missed out on the 5th star is that if you sit on the top floor (terrace level) you do not get access to the full menu with the big bowls and have to make do with the smaller plates and portions with a restricted menu! Very strange, am sure management will rethink their policies and not discriminate diners based on where a seat was available!
