The Gloucester was suggested by a few people as somewhere to eat that is on the seafront and close to the parking/pavilion. When we arrived, we didn’t know how to get in - you need to head down the steps, not up! The decor wasn’t what we were expecting and left us a little trepidatious about whether we had made the right choice; it definitely needs a facelift and - to be completely honest - a really good clean. We could see other diners looked happy, so we decided to give it a go. The staff were lovely and clearly worked very hard. They did their best to serve us quickly, even though it was busy. The food was good. We can recommend the steak pie, it was really well filled and very tasty. Burgers were good quality too. All reasonably priced. We would return.

Was really apprehensive about going here as a lot of people drinking outside- however really good meal - very good value and generous portion sizes- does gluten free too - website is out of date as it’s just been taken over and they are trying their best to get everything sorted out. Decor a little shabby but this was explained to us about the takeover

Was a little wary on entering the pub as a Saturday evening and fairly rowdy crowd outside However we were served by a lovely waiter who explained the place had just come under new ownership. Gluten free menu online but turned out not to be up to due to the takeover however was presented with the allergen folder and advised of what was what. Food was lovely and good size portions Decor needed a bit of TLC but this does not detract from the overall quality of the food

Very nice food slightly on the expensive side but not enough to be an issue. However the service was quite lacking, waiting 15-20 minutes for our server to even clear our starter plates after waiting about 40 for them in the first place, then another 50 minutes from for our food, making me think the server forgot to put through our mains order. But the food when it came was very nice with large portions that somewhat justified the price. A nice place for good food if you’re wanting more of a pubby atmosphere, just hope you get a good server

Food was far too expensive - £22 for ribs and half a chicken and far too big-this would have served 3 people! Also the Tuesday deal was badly worded as we thought we would be buying 1 and getting 2nd for a £1 as advertised which is why we thought the price was so much. They did not have the item I wanted on the menu - MUSHROOM, CRANBERRY & BRIE WELLINGTON

Been here a few times over the last few weeks for the Euros, and I have to say what was once one of our favourite bars in town has quickly moved down to the bottom for me. On our most recent visit we booked a section (2 tables) for 12 people to watch the football. Upon arrival we were told we didn't have a reservation (even though our name/booking was on the clipboard), but they would move things around to accommodate. We were put on a table of 6, so were already compromising what we had booked, but were just grateful to be seated (well, half of us anyway) as it was very busy, which we pre empted, hence the booking. We all bought drinks, and proceeded to sit at the table we were allocated. Another lady then came over and told us we were to move because there was a booking on that table. We explained that the first lady had seated us there because we had a booking, and they had accidentally messed up. She then said that's no problem, went away and got the security guard to escort us away from the table?! The security guard was very understanding, and brought the manager over who moved us to the table next to the one we had. Very frustrating as the people sat here (a party of 8) didn't even have a booking, yet we were being told to move and they weren't. So all in all, a bit of a shambles. It's like nobody there knew what was going on. Instead of trying to sort it like the first lady, everyone else just wanted to get us to move. No point in booking here so wouldn't bother. All of this and the fact there was only 2 people on the bar, causing queues to go out the door just made the whole experience shocking, waiting nearly 40 minutes for a drink. They said 4 people had called in sick hence only 2 members of staff, but I beg to differ as it was the same for the semi final on Wednesday. Sadly won't be returning here, and I am gutted as mentioned this used to be a firm favourite for us.

Great food (British), unfortunately the service does not know the menu, does not pay attention to the guests or the full tables of guests who had already left. After more than ten minutes we were still sitting with empty plates in front of us. The waiter was chatting in the kitchen. We went to the bar to pay. The lady just turned around and walked away without saying thank you or anything in that vein.

So, we went to this steakhouse on Tuesday. You know how much we love steaks, and they had this awesome promotion—the second steak was only a pound! We ordered the steak on stone, which was cool because we could cook it exactly how we wanted. It came with chips and salad, and it was all really good. The peppercorn sauce was a bit pricey at £3.50, but it was a big jug, so I guess that makes up for it. The atmosphere in the place was great. They had a TV showing the football, and the staff was super friendly and helpful. I'd definitely recommend going there. We spent a little over £40 for two steaks, a coke, a beer, and two peppercorn sauces.

Popped in here to watch the football , have a snack and a few beers on a Sunday afternoon. A good size sports bar with a fair selection of beers. Tvs at every angle all round the bar so where ever you sit you can watch the sport. Ordered a couple of bar snacks which came out in good time and was hot. The nachos with cheese and chili's were excellent. Sadly the barman didn't know how to count and tried to charge for just one beer instead of 2. Finally he charged for both and couldn't work out what change to give. He then shut the till with no change given. A supervisor came and made it right. Found out that he was a new member of staff. Sadly we found this to serve the most expensive beers at over £11 for 2 pints. Other establishments are all about £9 for 2 pints. Toilets were clean and tidy. All in all a average pub.

We were recommended to come here by our BnB owners. They said the Sunday carvery is the best ever worth every penny. We had to try it. As it looked very popular we booked. It was as the only time they had by 6pm on Saturday was 2pm Sunday. Not a problem very small breakfast it will be. The pub is a sports pub so tv screens on ready for the big games of football. Big bar and restaurant areas. We were shown to our table with a chalkboard showing our name and time explained how to order at the bar. Got drinks little tickets for regular carvery, as they do childs regular or large. Were then able to get our carvery. 2 meats and so much veg to choose from. My friend cant have honey so as carrot and parsnips were already in honey they brought out a separate bowl very thoughtful. The carvery was gorgeous the veg cooked to perfection not soggy not hard. Yorkshire stuffing balls amazing. Beef and pork meat was so tender and extremely flavoursome very good. There was no rush and people were leaving and arriving all the time. As the football started we left. But we shall return. Just book 1st. Lovely location lovely staff even the 2 on trial shift. Hope they were successful.

THIS LOOKS LIKE A GREAT PLACE BUT ISNT - BUT COULD BE I booked a table for my partners birthday. As soon as we walked in we went to bar asked about our reservation. We’re told to go to the food booking stand which was an unmanned wicker corner unit with dish cloths and paperwork on it. A guy came over, he was tall, white shirt, the manager I’m guessing who said we were early and he wasn’t sure our table was ready. A lady member of staff overheard and said it was, it seemed manager didnt seem to know what to do with us as we were 15 mins early, the lady ended up showing us to our table after some odd eye contact between all 3 of us on what to do. They decorated the table as id hoped, very grateful, but it was sparse . Table was sticky and menu dirty and worn, it needed replacing. Sat there for 10 mins then I asked if it was table service, no I should order at bar. We did that, young lad was really nice taking our order, he said we’d love the food, but should have came Tuesday as it’s get one steak for £1. I said it’s a birthday treat, it was a Sunday when we visited. I was excited to eat as was starving. Food comes out pretty quick, our mushroom with our steak looked 100 years old and was black and shrivelled up. I asked food server to replace our mushrooms, she took them away in a napkin, no apology. Another girl bought us over some fresh cooked mushrooms, i comment those look nicer and she had no clue what I was talking about. Obviously no communication about our food complaint. No one checked our food was ok. My steak was so fatty I only got 2 pieces that were edible. I left an 8oz stirloin. Thought complaining again wasn’t worth it. My fiancés meal was ok, he had rib eye. Then in the middle of the restaurant a guy and his family who came in to watch the Grand Prix style racing wasn’t happy as the pub had advertised the sport was being shown but half way through they turned over the Chanel. Said he was local, it wasn’t the first time they’d done this and spent money on drinks. The manager didn’t apologise or offer to put it back on he just stood there whilst the guy said it’s not on, and he won’t be comming again. I thought the manager should have asked the guy to go into the bar to discuss, as diners were clearly taken aback whilst eating. The managers shirt was hanging out, looked untidy, and he very clearly didn’t know how to handle this guys well deserved complaint. He just let the man walk out, with no attempt to fix anything. I must say I overheard the server who was doing the carvery calling every one sir and madam and that was a nice touch. Made folk feel special where he could 5* to him. That guy I would employ very happily. In my opinion, for the price of meals (£25 and £24) there should be table service not order at the bar. That way staff would get tips in return for good service. This is an incentive to provide good service, there’s no consistency in service and we had 4 members of staff attend to us from being seated, ordering drinks, then food, bringing out food, and having the mushrooms replaced. We had 2 steaks £49, 1 peppercorn sauce £3.50, garlic bread £4.50, a large lemonade and a Guinness. We spent £67 for two of us. We are locals and their adverts for good food attracted me, the food was a real let down for the price and this place clearly relies on holiday makers who never return a second time. Personally, I think the manager whilst mucking in everywhere and it wasn’t that busy, was the worst staff member performance wise. I’ve work in this industry for years and this place could be fabulous in the right hands. Staff need training on customer service, a little chitter chatter and pleasantries would have been nice from our food servers. Only the young lad at the bar chatted to me. We won’t be going again and tourists and locals a like, I recommend you go William Henry Wetherspoons just down the road instead. Our experience was a spoon experience but pricey. This is a very real review, I believe eating out is a treat and should feel as such, especially in this ££ climate. Nothing felt special. Food wise, I will say it wasn’t all bad, everything fried was hot and the side salad was fresh with a nice dressing, garlic bread was great. I didn’t go hungry. Steak was cooked rare perfectly, walking away full was the only silver lining.

Don't let the humble setting fool you, the food here is amazing. Sharer Nachos were easily enough for three people. I had the George III burger and it was lovely.

Food was delicious but facilities badly let us down. My partner booked 3 weeks in advance as a surprise meal for our holiday. The table we were seated at was not big enough for all the cutlery crockery & condiments that we needed to enjoy...

We popped in after a walk around Weymouth and shopping, we found a dish that we both liked and ordered drinks as well, the staff were polite and pleasant plus price was reasonable .

Tried the first time. The coating was a bit thicker than expected and oily, the chips was fried possibly more than should be as all were to hard to eat. Generally was a good meal for lunch.
