Ming Wah in Weymouth and Portland

Food was not ever close to the same quality as before the takeover. Not very warm. Some original staff in front of house helpful as before, but all kitchen staff have changed. The whole atmosphere was different not as welcoming as before. Disappointed.

Great place, changed owners since las time but the food was still excellent

Been going to the Ming Wah for 30 years, new owners so thought we would go see. Disappointing to see the place empty on a Saturday night when it’s usually been a struggle to get in on a weekend. We then realised why! The menu has not only increased which is ok but its changed for the worse, not many set menu’s as before. Ordered the starter platter and was very disappointed, prawn toast was very small looked like one previous piece if toast cut in to 4, pancake rolls smaller. 2 satay skewers and 2 ribs for £22. We asked the waiter if the rest was coming out and we were not happy but he didn’t seem really interested. We then cancelled the order didn’t eat the food and paid £13 for two drinks and left. Can honestly say we won’t be going back. Struggled to find a restaurant that wasn’t busy but got squeezed in to a lovely thai restaurant instead

Delicious and full of flavour. Was still piping hot when it was delivered to my house. Usually takeaways are luke warm. Would definitely recommend and will be using in the future.

Ordered as a takeaway with just eat and this is my usual go to Chinese for takeaway. Will no longer be for the future. Food took over an hour and a half to deliver, sort of understandable being a weekend but when it arrived it was luke warm at best, my mother having to microwave hers. And they gave us 2 dishes that were incorrect so very disappointing. Because we were so hungry at this point we ate what we could. No point phoning as it would have then taken longer to get the right dishes to us and we didn’t have our evening to waste waiting for it. Very underwhelming and really lacking in quality. Spent £44 and it seemed just a waste of money. Won’t unfortunately be ordering from here again.

Nice clean restaurant. Our waitress’Mai’ was superb. Ate 2 courses. Pleasant gap between both. Food was delicious and hot. Will definitely dine there again.

Great food at reasonable prices. The only downside is that they automatically add a service charge which I don't personally agree with. I feel tipping should be left to the individual to decide. Other than this no complaints.

Several dishes tasted similar, average and monotonous. One dish was forgotten and I found out when I finally checked the bill.

Have been coming here for years as the food has always been excellent. This time, under new management and absolutely dreadful! No table cloths, rice bowls the size of finger bowls. Waitress who’s been there forever now seems to have to sell extras?! Our plates were cold and sizzling dish … you guessed it, not sizzling. Food went cold really quickly 😔. We’ve always loved coming here but never again!

It was okay. The duck was fabulous. The rest of the dinner was disappointing. Great service, excellent location easy to walk to. No parking.

Terrible first impressions apart from the lovely staff. Not even a table cloth, a bit like a greasy spoon really. Menu dreadful, no mixed starters like most Chinese restaurants, so chose one which is extremely boring, I was going to choose seaweed as well but when I asked for some sweet and sour sauce with it I was told I would have to order it separately. I chose two courses which were ok. This place is a total rip off. My advice is leave it well alone. My cousin stated her dishes were bland and chewy. Never again.

Doesn't look much from the outside but inside very surprising. Excellent food, fast service.

The ingredients here are fresh and no MSG is used. It is the most satisfying restaurant we have eaten in Weymouth.

as a takeaway definitely not for me. ribs where just all grissel parts, shredded beef was 1/4 size of other places locally, pan cake rolls are spring rolls. I am not impressed completely waste of money. better off gets a supermarket meal.

It's not bad at all, but it's not better than local takeaway shops. It's not spicy enough. Less quantity for the price.

Dine in experience for five people. We arrived just after opening we were greated by a nice waiter , we were asked if we booked but hadn't , this wasn't a problem and we were shown to a suitable table. The atmosphere is nice , basic decor but that's not why we were there. Service is great , there were about 12 people including us so no reason to be neglected. The menu is huge , so so many choices but we all stuck to the dish combo we wanted. The set menus themselves are fantastic value if you go down that route with lots of dishes on each set All of us were happy with our meals , portions are good , I've had way less at the same cost in other places near me. Having seen the negatives about takeaway I can say the dine in was great , our food was tasty . The bill broke down to around £20 each for two main and side dishes with drinks but going back , those set menus offer more for really only a little extra We didn't eat pudding but certainly enjoyed our mains . These is a lot of choice on the menu so definitely something for everyone

Im surprised the place is still open the food is vile and the staff awful! Stay away from the crispy duck pancakes. Pancakes so dry that you can write your name on them, dry chicken also horrible chicken too.

We went for an evening meal and the food was superb, staff and owner lovely. Service was quick.We will definately be coming back.

I have been coming here for over fifteen years as part of our family holiday. My old review of this place was 5* as it was brilliant. Our most recent visit has meant we probably wouldn’t return. Food: The food to be fair is still really tasty but it’s about 80% vegetable to meat ratio in any entree. They have gotten very stingy with their portions overall. I really enjoyed my meal but shrinkflation has meant it isn’t as filling as it used to be. Service: We had the set meals along with some additional dishes. Time between courses was really long and then when the mains were served there was ten minutes between the mains and the rice being served which just meant our food got cold. You don’t mind prices going up - that’s the way of the world - but it really does feel stingy now. It all just feels quite chaotic and not an enjoyable experience at all.

Your website booking form says you are open along with Google……. However you are shut - very disappointing as booking complete for my daughter’s birthday as it’s her favourite restaurant! Will never come here again - what a joke!

Booked a table for 2 at 7.30 get there to find it closed after confirmation email on Saturday don't waste your time booking if they can not contact you to say it will be closed

Booked a table for 4 people at 6pm today - probably the worst I have ever made in the last 40 years of dining out!!! I won’t bang on about how dirty the place was and even wires hanging down in the entrance with? So let’s talk about the food and service. 1/ No diet soft drinks at all? 2/ order was delivered I correct 3/ my wife’s order didn’t even turn up 4/ two of the dishes must have been reheated or cooked previously… 5/ asked to speak to a manager only to get the reply - THE MANAGER ISNT HERE- (what on a Saturday evening????? 6/ The final bill was wrong as it included my wife’s order that she never received? 7/ No good will gesture even though the service was rubbish and the food - well - let’s not even go there because I’m not able to give a MINUS TEN! Lastly if you are reading this and think I’m just another moaner then think again as in the last 40 years this is only the second time I have ever complained about a restaurant. Do yourself a favour and give this place a very wide berth… They should be ashamed…

As always a fabulous meal was had by all, the service was first class. The food always comes to the table piping hot. The friendly staff are are a joy to be served by.

What a lovely Chinese to discover whilst on a holiday here. Very tasty food and friendly staff. I wish i lived closer to this restaurant. I would also say I’m fussy with Chinese and I’m hard to impress, but this place is wonderful. loved this restaurant.

I ordered the beef plate and wonton soup, and it was the worst meal I’ve ever had. The beef was chewy and seemed like it had been cooked separately from the sauce, which was just added at the end. The wontons were inedible, very solid and tough. To make matters worse, they refused to refund the plate because I had eaten two pieces of the beef. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Ordered on just eat £30 worth of Chinese, we normal always order here but haven’t for around 5-6months it’s usually absolutely delicious and worth the money. This time it was completely different the quality was completely lacking, we got salt and chilli chips to discover the chips actually had sugar all on them 😂 beef was insanely chewy and the chow main had a whole spring onion in, the food was also cold. Really disappointed as I know this is a local business but don’t raise the prices and then lower the quality.

Ribs were so dry overcooked and chewy I couldn’t eat them. Egg fried rice very bland more like plain rice. Kung Po chicken was quite good though.

Walked in without booking and a table was made ready for us straight away. The food we ordered was quickly out and was fantastic. Highly recommended. Can't wait to visit again.

Wasn’t good at All chicken was dry a chewy bbq ribs were over cooked a dry crispy beef was chewy a soggy.this is the second time I’ve ordered from here an it’s not good .when I’ve eaten in the restaurant it’s been lovely ..will never order take away from here ever again.

I ordered a takeaway for my mum and I when I visited her in a nursing home. The food was hot. sadly that was the only redeeming feature. The BBQ ribs tasted weirdly of sweet and sour sauce, the beef in both the beef chow mein and the house special noodles was tough, and the chicken was processed. Flavours were nondescript. I will never get a take away here again.

Disappointing quality- overcooked meat

Had some good experiences eating in 2 months ago. Tried it for the 2nd time for takeaway. It was pretty bad and you can clearly tell it’s not the same quality. Meat didn’t taste fresh. Beef was super chewy and chicken was hard. I’ve had many Chinese takeaways and don’t tend to have high expectations, but this is surely not some of my likings.

The spare ribs are in inedible, pancake rolls disgusting, chow mein old probably from the day before, never again, would not recommend this place

This is an online order. Terrible noodles, too much oil, no flavour, no taste, COLD as it was just taken out of a refrigerator. worst pineapple fritters I have had the misfortune to eat! not sure if it was really pineapple or something else instead. the oil in both items combined will suffice an entire household for a week. ended up with a bad stomach next morning. Am I surprised? nope. and you shouldn't be if this happens with you. remember folks you first heard it from here. never ordering again from Ming "Wah"tever.

All the food we ordered was nice enough but the Beef Curry was way to peppery to the point we could not eat it and ended up binning it all. such a shame as we were looking g forward to it.

More like an Indian curry with only a few bits of chicken with lifeless soggy oily french fries😝 ordered more but have just thrown them away. Never again. And expensive too. Go figure!

Very clean, pleasant staff, food good. All done well, but brought 1 dish out at a time, so had rice on table for 10 minutes then my wife's dish came out, 15 minutes later my dish came out, so the rice was cold for me to eat. The but a 10% service charge on my bill without asking me, I told them to remove it. I told them that the service was not worth the £4.80 for cold rice and we could not eat together.

We always come here when we visit Weymouth. May is the best, always ready with a warm welcome, all the staff are lovely. Can't wait to come again!! 9h and the food.and saki is wonderful!!

Beautifully presented food, all excellent and the service was fantastic, friendly and efficient. We really enjoyed our visit and will be back again soon. The homemade spring rolls in particular were amazing. Also fantastic to see several vegan dishes.

Would not recommend I had an online order food came pretty quick but was dissatisfied with the food chips were under cooked and hard got hardly any pork the sauce pots were only half full and the crispy squid was really tough will not be ordering from here again

I visited your establishment last night for a meal with my. The restaurant was not busy only my family + another table. We placed our order and I was the first person the waitress discussed my particular order in detail to ensure it was correct, she also took everyones order and repeated it all back to us. This is standard practice. I know the meal I ordered is served on a skillet I know it takes preparation and I was happy to wait. I pointed out to a member of staff that my food hadn’t arrived. The waiter said ok we will remove from the bill the meal you didn’t have. I understand that Mistakes happen, But it is more important how these things are dealt with. I thought that smiling at me and only offering to take off the thing I didn’t eat was not good enough as by this point the meal was already ruined.

Visited this establishment and not quite sure why it is so popular..... It is fine, service is good food is quite good but nothing exeptional.

My husband and i went for the set menu for two. The starters were nice but the mains were poor and bland. Very expensive for what we got. Staff were friendly but got our drinks order wrong. Would not revisit this restaurant.

Sadly not good. Had a meal there tonight for 3, my schezwan pork was ok but chips were totally inedible, overcooked to the point it was hard to even take a bite so left them, chicken balls were booker ones NOT home made and just bland, coke was watery. We brought it up with the waiter who said it was fine, so didn't want to complain further, the left overs we asked to take home just because we didn't want to be questioned but sadly went in the bin outside Staff are generally friendly but I'm paying for food and it's not cheap by any stretch. First time here and sadly the last, simply because the food was just so bad. This was advertised as weymouths premium chinese, it's anything but permium!!! Authentic Chinese restaurants should have awesome food, someone in the kitchen simply doesn't care and had lost the reason to be a chef. Very sad.

Despite the response to my my previous post I can assure folk that their website said open when in fact they were closed. Obviously changed the website after my aborted visit.

Three of us went there on Thursday evening The staff were very friendly However the food was the worst I’ve ever eaten. When the bill came they had added a service charge as well We were stopping in a holiday home wish I’d read the book on the table It said the worst place to eat in Weymouth Also it’s the most expensive I’ve been in

Booked online but on arrival they knew nothing of our booking as their was a ‘problem with the booking system’. If you know there’s a problem turn it off. We were told to come back after 30 mins as a table would be available, returned after 45 mins just as jam packed with no table anywhere close to being available. Very poor customer service

The order had missing items 2xlarge egg fried rice , when I called they told me to call back and hung up on me , very poor customer service will never use again , the order was over £ 60 would not recommend

Went for chinese looking forward but honestly not that good had been informed not to go but took a chance curry sauce never seen anything so dark food not brilliant and then a big service charge stuck on the bill don’t go for the yuk sum also .

We prebooked 6 weeks before our reservation and on the night were told that the booking system hadn’t been working for a while. We were sent away and told they’d have a table at 8 and they’d ring us - they didn’t. We returned at 8:30 to which they said a table were just leaving but there was no sign of any table leaving at all. Very poor service, no apology, this isn’t acceptable. Turn your booking system off if you know it’s not working!!! We shan’t be coming back

My sister booked for six of us to have dinner on Saturday the 4th November 2023 the table was booked for 6.30 We travelled down from London for a special birthday She booked online over a week ago she received confirmation and on the day before, and received a reminder We arrived to find no booking in her name. We were then told it was an automated service!! How rediculous We complained and was told they could squeeze us into a smaller table but we would have to wait for someone to leave, when you sit at a restaurant you want to be comfortable not squashed in. There were other tables made up, for parties of 12 but we were told we couldn’t have one as they were booked already!!! Well so was we Absolutely disgusting

Ordered online but my order was late and missing a dish, so far spent 30 minutes trying to contact them to try and sort this but so far they are ignoring my calls.

Now I can’t speak for the sit in restaurant food , but if it’s cooked by the same people for the take away food then I will never eat in there , the prawn balls had like a grey stodgy inside to the batter, the Singapore fried rice was more like boiled and stodgy, the chips had no life to them . My wife’s chicken fried rice had no flavour at all. On the plus side the prawn crackers were good at least there was no hairs on them as the rice did . It’s a shame to pay £30+ for crackers as that’s all we really ate . If this is the best Chinese restaurant in Weymouth we will be happy to go to any of the other ones in future.

Food was delivered hot and very tasty. All lovely and fresh. Would definitely order from these again. Food ordered was King Prawn chow mein... mushroom chow mein...boiled rice ..egg fried rice.. curry sauce. All lovely.

Very good food and very fast service

Excellent restaurant, amazing customer service, very polite and smiling people. Food amazing. We went twice in 5 days of our holiday in Weymouth because we had a very 5 stars experience. We love Chinese food and we tried many different restaurants, but Ming Wah is the best. Even the price of food is good, the portions are big and the service is great. I really recommend it.

We had an evening meal starters first Which could of been a mistake really. As the they tasted great but filled us up before mains. I had the old favourite chicken curry and boiled rice and my partner had chicken fried rice. Really nice and plenty of it. Overall staff were friendly and polite. Food was delicious.
