Mona’s Thai &Asian Cuisine in Weymouth and Portland

A wonderful authentic Thai restaurant with a cosy atmosphere. Excellent, freshly made, high quality food. I strongly recommend getting a variety of dishes to share. They are incredibly accommodating for allergies, dietary requirements (e.g. vegan) and your personal dining preferences. We ordered a few different dishes and they were happy to bring them all out together so it was like a wonderful platter. Thai red and green curries are delicious without a doubt, but I'd recommend trying the massaman curry, tom kha (creamy, coconut milk-based) or tom yum soup (broth based) and the tempura. We also got vegan rice crackers which were pretty colours and were served with sweet chili sauce. I normally don't buy crackers but I'm really glad we got them! I've been to a lot of Thai restaurants after coming back from Thailand and liking the food, and this one really hit the spot! I'm very glad we went there, and I can't wait to go again. We got there when it opened at 5:30 on a Tuesday, and by 6:15 it was completely full, so I'd advise going earlier so you can get a table. But once again, it's just a testament to the taste and quality of the food. Don't eat something you've had before— I'd highly recommend you to take the opportunity to try some authentic Thai cuisine!

Staying in Weymouth for an out of season business trip I was a bit stuck for dinner. Mona’s was a very welcome surprise. Fantastic food in a great environment with lovely staff. I will definitely be coming back.

Stopped in for evening meal while staying nearby at Haven Littlesea and loved this place. Food was all delicious, fresh and generous portions. LOVED the vege satay and pineapple fritters! Service was speedy and super friendly too. Thank you 😊

Absolutely brilliant and charming small Thai restaurant. Run by Mona in the kitchen and Pat front of house. The decor is simple with Thai touches, subtle lighting and mercifully low volume background music. Seats around 22 so quite cosy. We turned up as they opened (17:30) without booking and were lucky to get a table that was booked for 19:30; so probably best to book as a rule. Fantastic food and service and we enjoyed our experience so much. They have been here 6 years now and hopefully they will be here for many more.

Wife and I had a lovely meal here for our wedding Anniversary. Great attentive service, that was top notch and the food was simply delicious. Even when I accidentally poured one of the dishes on me, they quickly helped me clean up. Amazing food, next time I'm in Weymouth, I'll be going back.

This is the best Thai food that I’ve ever had! The curry with sea bass and the Tom Yum soup was SO good. The chili basil beef as well. Highly recommended!

Absolutely delicious. Small restaurant, and was full when we walked in, so we got takeaway and ate it on a bench overlooking the beach. Ordered a chicken pad Thai and a papaya salad. The salad was very spicy so watch out. Overall sensational!

Fabulous New Years Eve meal with friends in this fantastic little Thai restaurant. As ever the food was tasty and freshly cooked - shout outs for the speciality sea bass, the cashew nut stir fry and the ‘golden balls’ (deep fried ice cream). They went out of their way to accommodate one of our party who dislikes ‘sauce’ - making a fabulous tasty (but sauce free) rice dish. Service here is always friendly and personalised. Great for eat in - but book as the restaurant is small or take away.

Lovely welcome by lady. Didn’t book but I was eating very early. Definitely worth a five star from my expectation. It’s not the fanciest restaurant and more like a cafe and the prices are very reasonable in this new age of inflation. If you are expecting haute cuisine then you might rate it a 4 star. I did find the tofu a bit flavourless but the curry was perfect with amazing flavours.

Thai food is our favourite cuisine and after reading some rave reviews, we decided to book for dinner for our staycation around the area. Before we even walked in, it was a bad start. We were just approaching outside the restaurant and I got a call to ask if I was still coming as someone else wanted my table, even though my reservation time had not passed yet. We ordered the food and halfway through eating our food when the owner came over and said quite bluntly they needed the table back by a certain time, even though we had been waiting for our food for a while beforehand. This meant we then had to rush through our meal. Unfortunately that was not the only downside of our experience, every dish was extremely salty and we did not enjoy the food despite the poor customer service. The bill of nearly £100 definitely was not worth the meal or the service and we left extremely disappointed, with no apology once of the rudeness we encountered many times throughout. Would not recommend and would not return again if we were to stay in the area.

This place is OK but the food is too hot, even for Thai food and the portions are very small. Had the set menu and was really embarassed by the desert which was a sliced strawberry, by itself. Expensive, for what it is.

We were given a gift voucher for this restaurant, on arrival we were greeted by name and made to feel very welcome.It was my first experience of eating Thai food and we were guided through the menu by our charming hostess. We came here twice during a short break to Dorset. The food was fresh and tasty and the friendly service came with a big smile. We had Thai fish cakes, chicken satay, prawn pad Thai and the Penang curry. All absolutely delicious. Would recommend.

Having got back from three weeks in Thailand just one week before going here I can vouch for its authenticity! We had chicken satay, red curry, chilli and basil stir fry and of course papaya salad, spicy… washed down with Chang beer and good value white wine. It was my birthday meal and they looked after us really well. Delicious food, friendly and helpful staff, and it was very busy so make sure you book.

Had an impromptu visit to Mona’a this evening and was lucky enough to be accept in without a reservation. Service and atmosphere was impeccable, really friendly front of house and joyful locals who shared good tips around other local restaurants. The food was incredible, completely unfaultable. Full of authenticity and fresh flavours - best food I’ve eaten in a long while.

This spot is ideal for many an occasion!!! Lovely host who greets and meets. Small so capacity is quite intimate and it had a real family vibe about the place. Great selection of food. Would recommend the tamarind sea bass fillet. Sauce was delicious a mixture of tamarind and seasoning on top of a lightly battered and fried piece of sea bass. Accompanied with a simple tai salad which can be served mild to hot with the red chilli sprinkled on top. All dishes that were eaten were light and crisp with their freshness. Good wine selection available too. A definite must if you are in Dorset!!! Good to book as always busy every evening that we were down in Weymouth.

We were pleased that we booked Mona’s for the first night of our holiday. The place is quite small and cosy, so I’d say booking is advisable. Unfortunately they turned away some people because they were full … a good sign for those of us lucky to have a table (in that it appears to be very popular). The staff were very friendly and got a beer to my table quickly while I waited for the others in my party to arrive. I recommend a large Singha to get the party started. There were 4 of us. We had starters and main. I thought the vegetable tempura starter perhaps could have had the batter a tiny bit crisper and cooked a little longer. Overall, my brother’s verdict was “delicious” and I agreed. I had a red curry for my main. They gave me a choice of mild or spicy, and I chose spicy. What I enjoyed was that the sauce was full of flavour and the heat built over time. The sticky rice came in a little bamboo holder, which kept it nice and hot.This was a great idea meaning you could serve yourself the rice in small portions over the course of the meal, and each time it was a good temperature. All in all, an enjoyable dining experience. Thank you Mona and Co.

This is a fabulous cosy restaurant near the harbour. We booked our table via Facebook and was promptly responded to with a booking date and time. The charming owner greeted us by name on our arrival. She explained that any of the meals could be adapted to your taste, for example if you wanted more chilli! We had the mixed starter followed by red Thai chicken curry and Penang prawn curry - delicious. At £66, we felt this was very reasonable. When we are next in Weymouth, we will be sure to come here. The food was delicious and one of the best Thai meals we have had in a long time!

More Thai style than authentic Thai, does not have the range of flavours of other Thai’s we know, not bad but just bland. Service is good and they seem to be native Thais’s staffing the place, but guess they have just simplified everything to what they think locals want. Impression was that while not great could be a easy place for diner if arriving late one day, but closes at 9:30 Around 20% too expensive for the quality of the food, know a Thai in St Albans (not known for being cheap) that is lower cost and significantly better food.

This cosy small Thai Restaurant never fails to delight us. In the holiday season you will need to book early! It has a nice ambience and the charming hostess Pat works really hard to keep everything ticking along. Mona herself does the cooking! We chose the mixed platter starter for 2 which included chicken satay, vegetable spring rolls, minced pork crispy wontons, prawn & chicken on toast, pork and prawn dumplings, and dipping sauces. This was followed a Chicken Massaman Curry and Special Duck Penang Curry. We finished with the Banana Fritters and Ice Cream! The food was excellent and the bill just over £60. Will definitely visit again when next in Weymouth.

As always a friendly welcome, beautiful fresh food and a nice atpmpshere. Mona's never disappoints but would reccomend booking as small premesis and popular.
