We wanted to celebrate my husband's 60th Birthday on Christmas Day by going out for Christmas Dinner just to make it special for him. Often, at Christmas, food can be a hit or a miss when you go out as it often feels like "conveyer belt" meals. Wow, this was NOT the case with The Glenskirlie. They made our day absolutely magical. The food was incredible without doubt but the staff crumbs, they were so attentive, patient and actually made us feel so special as though we were the only ones there ! There was no rush to get the table back and there was nothing too much trouble for Neil and all the hardworking team. We altered our usual Christmas tradition of a home cooked meal to eating out to celebrate David's 60th Birthday and the Glenskirlie pulled out all stops to make it amazing. Thank you.

I enjoyed immensely a lunch out with friends at Glenskirlie Castle restaurant today. The menu was was varied with something for everyone. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient and the food was both ample and delicious. None of us went home feeling hungry! A really lovely lunch and I will hopefully be back soon. Delighted to see the restaurant reopen under new management and will certainly spread the word.

Came here with a voucher we had for afternoon tea. The afternoon tea itself was nice. Liked the fact we could get vegetarian sausage rolls (as I don't like pork). The mushroom soup appetiser was lovely, sandwiches and cakes nice. Husband didn't like that it was more like a whipped cream rather than proper clotted cream with the scones. Strangely, although we both ordered coffee, it came to the table in 2 x separate coffee pots - only about 1 and a half cups of coffee in each pot. Service was efficient. Floor looked a bit grimey and could do with a good scrub. We also noticed during the time we were there that there were around 3 tables who didn't finish their afternoon tea (and had obviously asked to takeaway what was left over)... rather than the tea stand being taken away and the remainder wrapped up for them, they were all presented with a single piece of tin foil at their table to wrap it up themselves... we just found this quite bizarre especially for a property which looks like it is trying to be relatively upmarket. However, all in all, food and service good... would definitely try their dinner menu next time to see what that's like.

pulled up outside this gleaming white beautiful castle, was shown to our table, the staff were so friendly and attentive. When the afternoon tea was ready, every thing on the plates was explained to us. I have to say it was all homemade on site, from the sausage rolls, the jam, to the delicious petit cakes, pastry so thin and crisp. We've had afternoon teas at 5 * hotels, but this far exceeded all the rest. Fruit bellini, assorted teas, small soup ( mushroom and tarragon) we was lucky enough to receive this as a Christmas present, but we will be re booking, maybe stay the night too 😀

Was so looking forward to this treat following lockdown but what a disappointment Poor service- was given cake stands without asking if we had any allergies/preferences. I explained I really don’t like nuts and walnut slices were served, I asked if there was an alternative- waitress never bothered to ask. I asked for cocktail menu - again waitress never bothered, asked for coffee refill..guess what …it never came. She then asked check to ask if everything was ok as we were leaving! She seem so surprised when I said no it wasn’t great Surely after being unable to open to customers for months more of an effort should have been made

Very disappointing! It’s a cafe NOT a restaurant. The very limited menu relies on avocados and they had none on a busy Sunday. The drinks menu was unavailable as “we don’t know how to make that”. Pathetic attitude- staff were inattentive. They were overwhelmed not enough staff for the number of guests

My friend and I came here on a Monday afternoon at 4pm. I expected the place not to be as busy but it was very nearly fully booked. We had a lovely amuse bouche of mushroom and truffle soup and it was the most delicious soup I really have ever tasted. I told the chef that as well. I would have loved to have taken some home for my husband it was THAT tasty! Lovely display of sandwiches, cakes and scones which tasted great and served on a traditional tea stand. Prompt service and lovely staff. Great atmosphere and I would definitely return. Just two things to point out. You should serve the scones with clotted cream not whipped and the chairs could be doing with felt on the bottom because it’s awfully noisy when folks are getting up and down from their seats and you hear chairs scraping on the floor. PS Prosecco and fruit cocktail was delicious 🍹 See you again soon!

I phoned the Glenskirlie the day before our afternoon tea for four, to ask if I could order something different because I’m eating a low carbohydrate diet. It was explained to me that there are no chefs working during afternoon tea, and I agreed that I would be happy to have some soup (the company being more important than the food, of course) When the food arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised to be presented with my own three tier stand with a variety of lettuce wraps, a selection of cheeses, and some appropriate fruit. The server explained that the soup was not low carb, so the chef had put this together for me. It was really tasty, but more to the point I was impressed with the effort they had gone to for me. The others thoroughly enjoyed their food too. The Glenskirlie also coped well with my niece’s gluten-free requirement - and her very limited sandwich repertoire 😃. The service we received was very friendly and professional but not overbearing. Thank you all, we will return soon.

I was sent a questionnaire by the Glenskirlie asking me about my experience. As it has always been really good before I sent the below private message on the 17th Feb at their request. I have had no reply. Service starts at the top....... We were very disappointed. I have been a few times before for meals, high teas, stayed in the hotel and been to about 13 weddings there. it was nothing like what I have come to expect. I have another paid for booking to bring a friend and I’m not looking forward to it at all. Being served in the breakfast room of the hotel rather than the restaurant. The two young girls avoided eye contact, left us standing in the middle of the restaurant for ages and stood chatting at the breakfast bar most of the time we were in. The other girl was brilliant but doing it all herself. Once getting to the hotel there is no way of knowing where your new “restaurant” is, no signs, no staff!!! We wondered around for a bit and two staff walked right past us (they were busy but we were trying to get their attention) The cakes were horrible. One tasted off and the bread was hard. As I said, I’ve been many-times before and it was never like this. The fizz had no fizz and was just like a flat over sweet juice so £27 for two cups of tea wasn’t great. The speakers in the breakfast room are terrible and the music that was being played was not suitable at all. The speakers are so bad it should have just been off which would have saved the atmosphere at least. We weren’t asked if we wanted any other drinks and there was no bar just a breakfast, we weren’t even asked how anything was (as I said, all eye contact was avoided. We had planned to spend the day with you after the high tea but instead we were there a total of 30 mins and left hungry and very confused We tried to get back out and the door was lock the other door said private. After having to find staff again in order to leave we were told to use the door that says private.???? What is going on up there? I have made this review private as it is so unusual to what I’ve come to expect and I would hate to leave such bad feedback for a one off but going by what we experience I would tell people to avoid if asked. I have attached the photo they sent me to confirm the booking and the one they used when I was booking. The setting is nothing like this. The restaurant is now a breakfast room in a different building. Total false advertising and I’m sure the 2AA stars will be removed from them on the next visit if not before due to complaints.

We were given a voucher for two for a 4course meal meal at the Glenskirlie for Christmas and as it was valid for three months we decided to book for a lunch on a Thursday. It was a lovely bright sunny day when we arrived and there was a sign to say the restaurant is currently in the Castle. When we made our way up it turned out to be in the chapel room that we sat in for a friend’s daughter’s wedding in 2013. Obviously this was set up as a restaurant now, they must do this during the winter season and I suppose it makes economical sense! Back to us, on our arrival we were welcomed by a warm friendly yet professional waitress/maitre’d and she showed us to a table, she gave us a choice of three which I really would like to say thank you, because I hate to sit in the middle of a room and prefer my back to a wall!! Daft I know! I found the room lovely and bright with the wall of windows still adorned with bright blue mosaic patterns. There was a lovely ambience in the room. We were given a set menu from which to choose and I went for the salmon starter, chicken main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert, there was an exquisite sorbet of blackberry (I think!) and white chocolate following the main dish. There was a cocktail to start and it looked lovely, however I went for a sparkling water. The food was freshly cooked and every dish was presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. Every bite was an experience we both enjoyed in a relaxing atmosphere, not pretentious, it was warm without being hot and comfortable, not only was the food exceptional but so was the service throughout. John had duck while I had chicken and he followed his sorbet with cheesecake while I had the sticky toffee pudding, which was to die for, the sponge was so light and rich and the sauce....oh my goodness, think “When Harry met Sally”!!!!! Wonderful lunch from start to finish, excellent service and thanks to the chef and kitchen staff too. First Class and we shall come back.

Having had Christmas dinner at the Glenskirlie for many years we have came to expect very good food and very good service. The food remains good, although my husbands venison was slightly overcooked. However the atmosphere and service have drastically went downhill since moving into the castle.Staff seemed very inexperienced and largely untrained: Gin and wine both not served in correct glasses, food slapped on tables. The starter came promptly however once finished took a while to clear and some of the cutlery was left.Main took a long time to come out. Kids chips were not very good and husbands venison was overcooked. Wines were just left on the table which is not our usual experience whereby we are asked to try.General waiting was poor.Location wise the castle is poor by comparison to the house very noisy and felt a bit like sitting in a corridor as meals were being taking to another room. I know you have moved away from the white table cloths but eating dinner on a wooden bench style table does not shout Christmas. The only good thing was the majority of the food everything else severely lacking in comparison to other years. If the choice has been made to reduce the level of service this should be communicated to customers and should see a reduction in price.Unfortunately the Glenskirlie has lost its shine.

Always a shame to have a Christmas menu forced on you just because you want to eat out in December, that being said, there was a good choice on the menu, the ingredients seemed good quality and fresh, food was served hot and on hot plates, by staff who were very attentive and efficient. We hadn’t been to the Glenskirlie in a while but always enjoyed going for a special meal in the lovely restaurant but hadn’t realised they had moved the restaurant to the castle. What a real shame. The castle restaurant has no atmosphere, nothing special about it, the menu is not what it used to be pretty basic. Don’t get me wrong the food was good but when you come fir a meal expecting what you had in the restaurant previously you are left fairly disappointed. It is a great shame as I would no longer come as other establishments offer the same quality but far cheaper in the area.

We had A meal in the castle, the inside of the building is not special, the tables are like you would expect to get in A lower standard restaurant, pretty cheap looking. Also the waiting staff were very clumsy with the drinks, at least twice during our visit the drinks tray and contents ended smashed on the floor splashing over diners, no apology was given from the staff member that dropped them. On A positive note the food was very good and enjoyed by everyone. Overall not as good as it was when the old house was used. We wouldn't rush back.

We went here on a great value 5pm deal for 4 courses. The castle itself is a lovely building, the restaurant room is ok but not quite as inspiring as the outside. The staff were pleasant and quite efficient although we were waiting for things at times, and some of the bits of our orders were forgotten. They also didn't seem to be totally sure what was included with the voucher eg the chap didn't realise coffee was included. The food itself was very tasty, though there were not a huge number of choices, but this is understandable on a set menu. As is often the case, I preferred the choice of starters to main courses. All in all; a very pleasant evening, eating good quality food at a decent price, in a unique building.

Wallpaper was ripped at table and dirty marks quite obvious. The food was good but very small portions. One potatoe, one small piece of carrot etc turkey was okayish. Desert was fine but again very small portion. We saw other diners being given extra vegetables but one was offered to us. For £85 ahead before drinks this was a total rip off. Definitely would advise others don’t waste your money. You will be hungry again in an hour. Plus decor is hideous. This place used to be classy sadly no longer. We found an offer to attend this restaurant at Glenskirlie House - Firstly I loved the name and we thought why not - when we arrived I was on my guard as I personally found the place eclectic at best, but we all have our own tastes in décor - we found our way to the restaurant and although we were at least 30 minutes early, it caused them no problem and we were guided to our booked table but the place was empty - we were offered the menu and when I read it and then looked at all the empty tables I immediately thought oh dear this obviously flatters to deceive as the menu was fabulous - we were given plenty time to read the menu but we were immediately offered our cocktails which were part of the offer - the alcohol free (our personal choice) cocktails were delicious - slowly but surely the restaurant started to fill up and was soon full - we both then made our selections from the fabulous choices offered from the menu - the food was divine - I had pate with bramble gel and fruits accompanied with soda bread wow - for the main I plumped for the shin of beef which came as a croquette with herb mash heritage carrots and turnip all swimming in a red wine Jus - I tried very hard to spin out the length of time it me to eat this but unfortunately all too soon it was finished - we were then offered a raspberry sorbet which was also quite delicious then finished off with sticky toffee pudding and ice cream - this was indeed a wonderful meal and although full, neither of us felt bloated - the service from the well drilled personable restaurant manager and staff matched the quality of the meal - this place is a real treasure and not too difficult to find (we travelled from central fife) - we cannot wait to return

came here for the first time after many years of recommendation. Lovely food well cooked and presented. Good service and not as expensive as I thought it would be. Smaller restaurant than expected, but pleasant enough. Will return and recommend to others.

The restaurant has changed over the years. No tablecloths, no demonstration of food eg salmon, hare, duck etc, no enormous sweet trolley.. The menu range has been reduced. prices have come down proportionately and there is a cheaper Market Menu and Express Lunch Menu as well as the A La Carte. despite this the quality and quantityof the food has remained supreme with a couple of minor blemishes (see later). We went as a fmily of 10. All had two courses, Six had sweets. Drinks for all to start. Couple of bottles of wine. Some liqueurs, some coffees. Total price was under £400 ie average £40.

We visited this restaurant as we are taking part in 'Sober for October' and drove there as it is quite a distance from home for a taxi, so we haven't been in several years. The food was as good as it has always been and the service was very good. As we weren't drinking we only had soft drinks and I did think they were extremely overpriced for what we ordered. £3.25 each for a pint of soda water & lime and a fresh orange & lemonade. We are not tight but we visited our local a few days later and had the same drinks for £3.40 for both of them. A minor irritation and didn't spoil an excellent evening.

We enjoyed a fantastic family meal celebrating our son’s graduation this evening. I have a very limited diet due to health issues and yet I was offered choices for each course, a special menu all typed up and prepared before our visit making me feel ‘normal’ for the first time in a long time.Staff are extraordinary and chefs amazing.Thank you so much for making us so welcome and accommodating my very difficult dietary requirements; the best meal in a very long time.

Recently had a family dinner for 8 of us, including 3 kids, at Glenskirlie restaurant for a special anniversary. From start to finish, it was fantastic. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The decor and surroundings stylish and relaxing. The dinner choice was great plus good kids menu available too, food was so lovely and presented beautifully. We were able to go through to the lounge area overlooking the garden for tea and cutting the cake, which was perfect for relaxing after dinner. So glad we chose Glenskirlie for our special occasion - they made it very special for us all, would highly recommend!

We received a voucher for our wedding and I hadn't been for about 15 years. Our dinner was a real treat, lovely starters, excellent fillet steaks and tasty desserts. The food is a cut above and we won't be waiting anywhere as long for our next visit.

Took wife to hotel as birthday treat and had lunch and dinner here the restaurant is ideal for a quite relaxing meal in comfortable surroundings for lunch you have a large choice from 3 different menus all looking very tempting we had beer bartered fish and steak pie both excellent. In the evening you have a choice of 2 menus to choose from again everything more tempting than the previous choice all menus are very reasonably priced we had the chicken and the burger followed by dessert of sticky toffee pudding caramel sauce with vanilla ice cream just could not say no (exceptional) the staff very friendly and attentive but not intrusive a credit shall certainly be returning would advice booking for evenings.

My wife and I were given a voucher to this hotel. We stayed overnight on15th of August. It it a very comfortable hotel builit in the old style. Our room was a good size with nice bathroom with walk in shower. The only thing for us which spoiled it a bit was the fact that you have to leave the hotel and walk 150 yards to the restaurant. Not so good if it is raining. All in all an enjoyable visit.

Dropped in here while travelling to airport and on a short time slot. Pleasant decor, bright and well lit. (I guess the cleaners curse the designer for the numerous ornaments that must demand lots of effort in maintenance.)Good fish and chips for all of us, served quickly by staff. Tartare sauce was rather bland but fish was well cooked and freshly prepared. En route again in advance of schedule.

Since my last visit the place has had a refurb, don't think it needed it s it was nice before. The new décor is really nice too. Romantic restaurant with tall candles on the tables. The tales are well spaced out which I like. Nothing worse than a restaurant filling every inch of floor space with tables. The service was spot on, just the right length between each course. The staff were all very attentive and friendly. The food is exactly what I like, good quality food, cooked and presented well. We had four courses, coffee, a cola and two cocktails and on the night were less than £3 thanks to a deal voucher. Will be back soon!

We try to visit the House restaurant for special occasions having been married here in Nov'08. This time it was a special birthday and had received a voucher for a four course meal. We had pre meal champagne cocktail, starter, main and dessert along with a pre-dessert sorbet and tea / coffee. Great choices and no despite not being the main A La Carte menu, there was no drop in standards and the food and choices excellent which is always backed up by brilliant service from everyone.

Very tasty food, and surprisingly inexpensive (3 course lunch fro the a la carte menu for £25) but very slow service. We sat down at 1.25pm and after a three-course lunch, we paid our bill at 4.30pm. Now, we were hoping for a 'long lunch' and so we were a little less concerned about time, but even we thought once or twice, that the serving staff had forgotten about us.The food was great, the surroundings were very pleasant, the chairs were comfortable though they became uncomfortable after a couple of hours because the seat was down at the back and up at the front, so if you've short legs (or you're overweight like me) we're talking about numb lower legs as the blood supply is slowly cut off. These things are just niggles, but combined, they rather spoiled our lunch experience. We will go again, because we are sure they can be better. By the way, the quality, presentation, taste and temperature of the food, was excellent.

Was recently given a voucher for a four course meal at the bar &a grill restaurant and it was so tasty. I had soup, chicken, sorbet then sticking toffee pudding and every course was so nice. Was very surprised at how good the food tasted and how nice the restaurant was especially since it was our first time. Would recommend to family and friends.

My daughter and I bought the Itison offer of afternoon tea . This also included a champagne cocktail each .It also included soup.......So, the soup arrived in a tiny teacup......tiniest cup I've ever seen ! .I was expecting a little bowl and perhaps some bread ....but no! Probably a couple of mouthfuls in the cup although it WAS nice but not very warm either to be honest .The display duly arrived with the sandwiches and cakes etc . A little disappointed with said sandwiches ...2 each of egg mayo; smoked salmon ( which neither of us like) red pepper ??? And ham hough which was the best of the lot! Various cakes including 2 scones each ,,,a tiny lemon tart which was VERY tarte..I couldn't eat it and nor could my daughter . The other cakes were a mixture of choc orange cake which was melting by the minute because of the heat in the conservatory where we were seated and we went to pick it up and couldn't ! No air con and couldn't open the door as there was a wedding party in the gardens. All in all, I'm glad I bought on Itison and didn't pay full price . It was £25 for both of us but apparently should have been £55 ....no way I would buy this at full price! Also, as I was driving, my daughter had both cocktails and I ordered a fresh orange and lemonade and it wasnt even in a tall glass and it cost me £2.75!!!! Sorry Glenskirlie, I wasn't impressed overall, and I wouldn't consider coming back.

Had afternoon tea at Glenskirlie today and it was fabulous, the cakes and scones were all freshly baked and delicious and served with home made jam and clotted cream. The sandwiches were served on two plates keeping the fish and meat separate from the vegetarian selection which was appreciated as I am vegetarian, all washed down with a big pot of tea and the choice of a champagne cocktail or soft drink.Thoroughly enjoyed it, and will definitely be back.

Went yesterday on a voucher deal for afternoon tea and champagne cocktail. We sat in the conservatory and received soup and our afternoon tea of soup starter, sandwiches, scones, cakes and choice of tea. The sandwiches were very tasty and the scones and cakes very light, all absolutely delicious. I came home with a doggy bag as couldn't finish everything. They were also excellent when I advised of dietary restrictions. Fantastic place.

My partner and i booed a table for a Sunday night. Seated straight away. Prompt drinks service from a very pleasant and efficient waitress. I ordered the ham hock starter and my partner the pate. Both excellent. For mains I had the burger and my partner the porter house steak. Again both first rate and very good sized portions. Overall a first rate dining experience. Would certainly come back.
