Landed here at the end of the steamer cruise, this place is both coffee shop, tourist information and gift shop all rolled into one. The staff were so friendly and helpful and seeing the pictures of the damage caused by Storm Desmond they have done an amazing job to get back to normal. Nice to sit and relax and watch the steamers.

We stopped here whilst waiting for the ferry across Ullswater. The cafe sells bottles of great local ale as well as farm shop snacks such as sausage rolls and pork pies. Welcoming staff and free WiFi too! No frills but clean with tasty and refreshing snacks.

Expensive for what it is but the cafe style option is available to those wishing to stay longer. Dogs are allowed in the reception area where the boating tickets are purchased. You can select drinks from the cabinet, sandwiches and small range of sweets taking these to the main till for purchase. There is seating outside and some people were choosing to paddle in the water. I prefer not to eat in these places are they are honey traps. I bring my own food and drinks. I like to go on a trip and then get back in the car and drive to my next adventure. I don't really understand why anyone would want to hang around here in the reception area.

We dropped in to the Glendinning Pier House which was a nice little cafe at Glendinning. Enjoyed a coffee and cake in the lovely son overlooking the lake.

*Booths*: £4.25, coffee 6/10 (no flat white option so too milky), roll 7/10 (good quality, no butter/only marg). Overall 7/10 *Cranstons*: £3.85, coffee 2/10 (just not good), roll 7/10 (Cumberland is best of all deals, very peppery/spiced, no butter/only marg, nice chutneys, bread roll a bit doughy) Overall 5/10 *Greggs*: £2.85, coffee 7/10 (actually decent, a bit highly caffeinated for me), roll 5/10 (decent at the price point, always bacon though as sausage are low quality, no butter/only marg) Overall 6/10 *Tim Hortons*: £3.50, coffee 3/10 (just go black coffee in which case 7/10, everything else far too milky), wrap 5/10 (tastes kind of nice at the time, but you know it’s crap - like crack) Overall 4/10 *Rheged*: £4.25, coffee 8.5/10 (no flat white option so too milky), roll 8.5/10 (good quality, butter, lovely crunchy roll, bacon or sausage as an option are fine and an extra quid for both) Overall 8.5/10

Tebay has sadly followed so many other examples of once good places becoming popular and then losing what made them popular in the first place. Used to to be great quality but now feels like any number of other service stations. So sad that family run businesses get greedy and expand or sell out and the quality and service plummets. Americano coffee rubbish more like a filter coffee. Don't bother making a special stop here

Bit of a mixed experience - had a drink and a very quick bite to eat and although the male member of staff was really friendly, the young female staff member we spoke to initially was unwelcoming and dismissive, and walked off to serve other people in the middle of taking our order, and didn’t come back! Bizarre. The food was ok, cauliflower cheese didn’t seem to have any cheese on it though, just breadcrumbs, which was a bit odd. Gorgeous location.
