Really fantastic first visit with the family for dinner. The seafood platter was superb! Great views of the runaway and private planes landing and taking off. The children were thrilled and highly entertained. Great service. We are already planning our return before we sadly leave.

Went for a bar meal tonight expecting at least decent food….food was clearly warmed up and/or re fried, and the steak and ale pie had no ale, contained shredded beef of some sort, and bore a striking resemblance to tinned meat products….the carrots in the veg were dried out, and there was a very small piece of cauliflower amongst the carrots and peas. The Tempura prawns were also disappointing, with fish batter style batter rather than the better tempura coating that similar prawns from Tescos have. We will not be eating there again. Another oddity was that the starters could only come as side plates with the main meal……🤔

This place is great, very good food, delicious desserts. we stayed at the campsite and ate at the bar every day. Chef makes great food (a lot of local seafood to choose) This place is usually very busy, yet the service was great we were impressed because we didn’t wait long for food even with the full bar of people. Staff is amazing and kind tried to find seats for people even without booking. I highly recommend it!

I’ll stick to the facts. We booked a table and were presented with the a la carte menu. Two of the seven or eight mains listed were not available - this was at 7.15pm. We ordered from the limited menu. I say limited because it became clear that many more options were available. Two hotel guests got mussels; a large party of tourists got items (haggis for example) which were not on our menu. Later, when settling the bill in the bar, we noticed chalkboards listing many items we would have preferred to order. At no time were we advised that these options existed. It’s a very curious way of doing things when a la carte customers have less choice than bar customers. After all, the meals all come from the same kitchen. Our meals were not great. A langoustine starter was just one langoustine cut in three. The medium steak was overdone and the duck underdone. It had to be sent back and came with the usual chef’s lecture about duck being pink. Agreed, but not raw pink near the bone. I said I’d stick to the facts because I know, from what I overheard from the owner, that he has a very dismissive attitude towards criticism.

Last year the restaurant was great....... BUT this time was a shambles. At least 4/5 items on the menu they never had. Table next to us got served raw chicken. The chef was running around the reception shouting at the servers and slamming doors and spent most of his time sitting doing nothing. The food our party ordered was shocking. Thai Fish cakes had no fish , instead had a langoustine put on top of the potato croquettes, may as well not have a menu and give out random dishes. The mains were poor. The steak pie was poor and had very little steak and the veg was not edible. Chicken burgers were ok. Bangers and mash, the sausages were of very poor quality. The servers were rushed off their feet and did their best working under Gordon Ramsay. It was a horrible and awkward experience.

For us this was very disappointing more spice & Asia than Scotland. The place is quite grubby & run down, the food is not exciting. Struggled to make s choice as nothing inspired us! The two way chicken consisted of Luke warm 1/2 dry chicken breast and Luke warm chicken pie which was more stodgy pastry burnt on top than anything of its contents! No veg in sight! The mackerel came with a pile of frozen chips. Everything had the same gravy on regardless of what you ordered not mull food at its best sadly. Not one we can recommend.

We stayed here for one night dinner band b as a treat for us all during our motorhome adventure to Scotland. A treat it wasn’t. The hotel was shabby and needs updating and a good clean. The service was poor at dinner /the menu was very limited as some choices were not available / minimum choice of wine / beer options and breakfast was either full Scottish or full vegetarian. The owners were abrupt and not particularly welcoming. All in all a total waste of £600.

we can only vouch for our own experience, and state that the two lovely familly's who dined next to us had nothing but compliments for the food and helpful nature of the slightly over-stretched team. In my review of oban seafood bar i stated that the meal we had would be hard to beat, as the seafood was so fresh and well prepared and cooked, Well The seafood at The Glenforsa was impossible to beat, and really has spoiled us for the rest of our stay on Mull island. The mackerel was served FRESH and we were told was caught that afternoon by the owners. The sauces were perfect, our food was all served by a bubbly young lady with a smile and who kept our grandson entertained. We would like to say a big thanks to Clare (i hoipe weve spelt it correctly) who went to her own house and provided our grabndson with a coulouring in book and new pens (short attention span and was becoming fidgety and bored) we can not speak for the other reviews, but seemingly we can agree with all the other positive ones. we will definately be back before we leave Mull Island

we unfortunately had to catch a later ferry meaning that the local shop wasn't open and we were unable to buy the supplies we needed for our first night on Mull. A local person from the little village said that the bar at this spot may still be open, we called ahead and were adviused that although we would get there 15 minutes after last orders the chef and kitchen would make sure we were fed. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED. chicken burger was insanely big, the fresh fish (mackerel i think my wife had) and our friends curry were all served quickly and hit the spot. we had a cheese board to share fort ourt pudding and again, big portions pleased us all. weve booked for the restaurant this week coming. great hidden spot that should be spoken of more

After reading the negative reviews about this place we were hesitant to go but it had recently had a few good ones. We wish we had trusted our gut instinct and stayed away. A couple of locals we met in Tobermory said that they had trouble with "the chef" here this year and they were right. My wife ordered the Mull Skink which was watery and bland, a tiny miserable portion of dish water. I had 3 lango's as they call them...they were ok but its hard to mess that up. For main my wife had pasta which was luke warm and tiny, I had a flat iron steak which was tough and again luke warm, presentation of both was poor. You will be charged £4.50 for a handful of soggy chips and £5.50 for a pint of tepid beer...An absolute rip off for miserable food. The "chef" was in and out of the kitchen running out to see planes arriving and taking photos. He should stay in the kitchen and practice a bit more.. This was not chef quality food by any means. We won't be back

We visited on Thursday night, having booked in that afternoon. We had driven past and spotted it by accident as were staying in Salen and had been travelling to Tobermory for dinners. One of the party does not eT fish and was really looking forward to a steak and they tweaked the menus to allow her a Bar menu option in the restaurant. We had 3 courses, including the fresh mackerel caught by the owner that day, and the local venison with an experimental dish by the chef. Service was attentive, entertaining and a delight from Caroline. The venison when it arrived looked beautiful but was very tough. We spoke with the chef, Jordan, who explained the development of the dish to us and said it was probably the cut which made the meat touh. Very quickly a replacement meal arrived, which was absolutely delicious, the meal was taken off our bill and a free glass of wine arrived. Having cooked professionally I totally accept that you can never truly know how a piece of steak will cook, but it is the way an issue is dealt with that makes the difference. Impeccable customer service. Had we found you sooner we would have visited again and again. Thank you.

Cannot recommend enough, we visit multiple times a year. We are lucky to be general aviators flying in to the well run and excellent grass runway. Superb fun. We lucky few. However the food and service is off the scale. Beers are good too!! The menu is great and I’ve ate quite a bit from it. But recently the food has raised the bar even further. Chef with his massive bias for seafood has brought the Glenforsa into the leagues of some of the finest restaurants I have enjoyed here or afar. I mean that. Signature tacos and Chefs curry also never disappoint. Never. Hand made food and a Mull Skink Chowder to die for. I’ve often said to the lads, imagine this was on our doorstep. It’s not a recommendation, it’s a must visit. Glenforsa is spotless and staff are super attentive.

I had seen a programme on TV where a man flew a small plane up the west coast of Scotland and landed at an airstrip on Mull. As we passed the Glenforsa Hotel the name rang a bell and so we decided to stop for a coffee late morning. The Hotel is quite rustic and we had sticky toffee pudding & coffee in a dining room overlooking the water and a small grass airstrip. It was fairly quiet. We didn't wait long and the food was lovely. We were treated to a small plane landing and then another taking off a short while afterwards. Definitely worth a stop off if you are touring. The Hotel is en route from the Fishnish Ferry to Tobermorry and is a quieter stop off point for something to eat rather than waiting till you get to Tobermorry which is full of tourists!

If you need an instant, ordinary meal then it's fine. The steak pie and fish pie arrived in less than 5 minutes, so you know it's probably just come out of the microwave. Friendly staff, but I wouldn't recommend it other than for a quick meal

Non ho soggiornato nell'hotel ma ho cenato la sera nel bar. Bella esperienza, personale gentile, ambiente curato e luminoso con bella vista sul loch. Cena buona e ottima atmosfera

The location is lovely and they have a bar and a la carte menu to choose from. Unfortunately we didn't really enjoy the food. The fish wasn't seasoned and there were lots of pin bones in it, which was off putting for us. Other people may be fine with this.

There are not too many choices but what there are are varied and event cater to the vegetarian. The desserts were delicious.

As I was staying in the Glenforsa Hotel for five nights, the on-site restaurant was ideal for my requirements. I ate in the comfortable bar area and the slightly more formal restaurant, and enjoyed good local fare as well as more traditional dishes. With just the right level of attention from the waiting staff, I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We stayed on Mull for 4 nights, and ate in the Glenforsa each night! Fantastic and friendly staff, and the food was top notch. I will definitely be back.

Mull is rugged, surprisingly big, and beautiful. And this restaurant overlooks spectacular views over the Sound of Mull. The food is very nicely done, but the key reward is the view. And the satisfaction of having flown to the hotel's airstrip yourself :-) (you can also drive, but it takes longer...)

Superb setting lots to watch with planes frequently landing and taking off overlooking the Sound of Mull. We ate in the beautiful wood lined bar area but restaurant looked nice too. Smallish menu but good food. (Nice to see).Would go again.

Dined here, as staying in hotel and did not fancy walking into Campbeltown to find a restaurant so it was easier to stay put. Booked for 7.30 but they called us to put us back to 8.30 as they had a party booked in. They then call our room at around 7.20 to ask can we come now but no as we weren't ready. Agreed we'd come asap around 7.45. Party of 10 had grown to 14 and were very very noisy. Couldn't here ourselves speak. My starter of scallops, expensive but tasted fine. My halibut was tasty and enjoyed the meal. One of my sisters thought the langoustines were overcooked and again expensive. Steaks and lasagne were eaten with my sisters saying yes all good. Service all good and then breakfast in the morning. Menu very good, service a bit haphazard but friendly waitress and all enjoyed that meal too.

Lovely warm welcome followed by excellent service. I had the beef burger for dinner and can honestly say that it was the best burger I have ever eaten and I have had burgers all over the world. The beer’s were great and finished off the night with a few whiskeys from their very comprehensive list. Brilliant place. I will be back.

Met up with a friend for lunch today. ALWAYS reliably happy with our meals at The Esplanade over the many years.... But today's young chef was very astute with his skills. We had *Cullen skink, the baguette was fresh and warmed....so often it is not; (it's the little things like this that make you come back,), *fish n chips, and *incredibly chunky steak pie, with a lid rising up to the ceiling I'm my opinion all 3 meals really were the best examples on the island. Well done to: *The Esplanade for keeping up the standards of quality which bring people back * The Chef * The always friendly and helpful waitress 😁 (Love the new curtains and furnishings 😁)

I am giving you an excellent review based on previous visits but arrived Thursday 14th November at 11:15 and it was closed. Website says open at 10:00 and opening time on door says 10:30. Several people left disappointed during my 20min seat on bench. Off to Port Bannatyne for my brunch. Can you update your opening hours on door and social media platforms.

My family came in yesterday after spending a great night at the Lodge for my uncles 80th birthday. They were out for a walk in the morning and popped into the coffee shop on my recommendation. They all told me how rude the lady was that served them. She banged the chair down next to them with a face like thunder. She was very aggressive. My father was so annoyed he told me he was ready to just walk out. Very disappointing after I told them to come in. Maybe she was having a bad morning, Im not sure what was going on with her but its not a nice way to treat customers. Oh and my dads coffee was cold too. Not so good. It makes me sad because Ive been in a lot and always been happy with the service and the food.
