We came using a voucher we had from our wedding three courses including wine the service was quick and friendly starters were nice garlic mushrooms and Stilton and broccoli soup and we both opted for beef for main with a lovely red wine gravy we asked for a breather for pudding and received a nice selection of cheese and biscuits and also New York cheesecake …the restaurant area is intimate and I would certainly try either an evening meal which would have cost £35 pp three courses which I think is good value or Sunday lunch

Food was good, service slow & not particularly polite. Shelby on reception didn’t say please or thank you once when we were paying our bill- which when paying a fairly substantial amount was more than a little galling. Restaurant seriously lacking in atmosphere- but like I say, the food was good.

We were seated by the window overlooking the lovely grounds. Elizabeth was our server with a smile and she was most attentive most of the time. We shared a tasty crab starter followed by sea bass and duck respectively. The meals were sumptuous as we've come to expect in this delightful, elegant restaurant. We look forward to our next visit in the near future.

Four friends spent a most pleasant evening dining and wining in the classy Glendale Restaurant of Bagden Hall where three of the main courses were beautifully prepared and presented. Unfortunately the vegetarian tagliatelle was much too creamy and therefore cloying for my wife's taste. Her starter, the red mullet pakora however was extremely tasty, I'm pleased to say. We chose the cod, the 12oz gammon and the duo of pork for our main meals and they were indeed first class and thoroughly enjoyed. As were the desserts of panna cotta and Bakewell tart with clotted cream. The ambiance was lively as most tables were full at 7.30pm on a Wednesday evening which added to our enjoyment. As always the actual setting was delightful and the service impeccable and of the highest order. Despite the aforementioned caveat we look forward to our next visit and recommend the lovely Glendale Restaurant.

Nice bright dining room with excellent service, but the food is the star of the show. From start to finish, complex combinations of flavour (eg. starter of pigeon with a tarragon apple dressing, pickled baby beets, fig relish and crumbled walnut) were all superbly cooked and delicious. Superb cooking at prices we couldn't believe for such high quality dining (£27 for my three courses). Find an excuse to go if you live anywhere near.

As per my previous reviews, we periodically visit The Glendale and love it. I feel it's only right to continue to post reviews to demonstrate the consistency of both the overall experience and quality of food. Yesterday evening we were looked after by Paul, who was polite and attentive throughout. After a drink at the bar we made our way through to the restaurant. For starters we had the pigeon with crispy bhaji and the garlic mushrooms. Both were excellent; the pigeon, in particular, is always perfectly cooked whenever we come here. For mains we had the pork belly with black pudding and mash, and the chicken with potato gnocchi. Again, both excellently cooked and constructed with perfect flavour combinations. As usual, I'll end the review by saying we'll definitely be returning!

My wife and I were early for our 7.00pm dinner reservation and decided to enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the comfortable lounge bar. Staff were very attentive and personable. For starters we had the tasty mushrooms followed by fillet of sea trout and pan roast rump of lamb. Both meals were very well presented and were extremely satisfying, I'm pleased to say. We chose the rhubarb panda cotta which was a wise choice followed by filtered coffee. Excellent food, service and there was no problem using our Tastecard Overall we had a most enjoyable evening and we shall definitely return in the near future.

We periodically take a trip out to Bagden Hall to treat ourselves and escape to tranquil surroundings! As you will see, my partner and I have been several times, returning on account of the great experiences we've had. This time around was no different; Barry served us (he has done so before also) and, just as before, was excellent. He took us through to the bar for a pre-dinner drink, left us to peruse the menu, then came through to take us into the restaurant for our starters. We both had the ham hock hash which was delicately presented (as all starters I've had at The Glendale have been) and pleasantly light. I thought there would be a danger that the dish would be a little heavy, maybe too fatty, but it was just right. For main course my partner had fish (I think it was sea bass with a herb crust...) and I had the blade of beef (again!) which comes with mashed potato and vegetables on the side. As usual, the food was very good and Barry's service was impeccable. Keep up the great work and thank you!

My wife and I visited the Glendale Restaurant as part of the Virgin Experience programme and we were certainly not disappointed. From the efficient booking, the welcome we received, the surprise complementary drink on arrival and the Bagden Hall Hotel building itself and its surroundings were truly magnificent, even arriving in the dark. The attention of the staff members was 1st class and the Table d'hote menu was well thought out (apparently, this menu is served out of season and reverts to an al la carte menu in season). The selection of all three courses was tremendous and we loved each and every course we had selected. The cost for this dining is £20 for two courses or £25 for three courses. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again in the near future, once we have lighter evenings so we can experience it in daylight. The hotel also has a 2nd restaurant, The Bistro, which we will also be visiting in due course.

Second visit to this little gem, and it didn't disappoint! There was a special menu available, replacing the normal menu, and it was still fantastic. The Mrs had soup of the day (parsley)- which was delicious - followed by the chicken supreme. The chicken was cooked to perfection and served with a nice accompaniment of vegetables. I had a crispy pork belly starter with black pudding and peas. For my main, I had blade of beef with an excellent rich gravy and creamy mash. The chef at this place must have some serious experience, because the flavours in every dish we've had her have been expertly balanced. The menu is well thought through and excellent value with a Taste card (50% off the food bill!) Also, both times we've been to visit, the service has been outstanding. We will certainly be returning (again!)

Came here on the spur of the moment (arrived at our first choice in Meltham to find it was closed this week!) and were not disappointed. Exceeded the expectations that we did have too. Nice twists on food - perfectly in between gastro pub and London poshness in taste, presentation and portion size.Sounds silly, but the Strawberries and Cream (panna cotta) could not have tasted any more like strawberries and cream!Definitely looking forward to the winter menu.

My better half and I decided to take a little trip out to Denby Dale on Tuesday evening for some dinner at The Glendale. We arrived at the beautifully set hotel and were politely greeted by Will who looked after us for the evening. The food was excellent; we had pigeon and fish cakes for starters (I would highly recommend the pigeon- lovely combination of flavours with the ginger and rhubarb). For mains we had the chicken and lamb which were, again, excellent. At the end of our meal, after coffee, we provided our Taste Card to Will, who politely informed us that we should have let them know upon booking that we intended to use the Card. However, he was kind enough to honour the card for the evening, which was a really nice touch and made our evening.I would certainly recommend The Glendale based on our experience: polite, attentive staff, lovely surroundings and great food. Just remember to mention your Taste Card when booking!

Because with a little local knowledge I knew just how relaxing the grounds could be on a clear sunny evening, how peaceful it can be looking across the woodland down to the course of the Dearne and Clayton West. With 'gourmet card' in pocket, we went off to enjoy such an evening as this. OK you have to be realistic about the beer options, it is more set up for weddings, but there were bottles. We had a restful sit in the garden to choose our food and were served more drinks as we ordered before heading into the restaurant. I had a pigeon starter and a rack of lamb, whilst my wife had a lamb skewer then an oriental burger; all were well presented and well flavoured. The menu is seasonal and not too extensive, which in my opinion helps it to deliver on freshness and flavour. The staff were attentive and also well presented, it would be worth a return visit.

We were a group staying here on business. After a mamouth drive to get here we dined in the Glendale Restaurant for our evening meal. I chose a hamburger which, when it appeared, was dry, small and tasteless whilst The accompanying bun it resided in was little better. I hear in Japan poop burgers are all the rage, I doubt they taste any worse than what I had here. Never mind,I said to my fellow diners, we have the cheeseboard to look forward to. But the cheddar cheese was so bland and without taste we wondered how they managed to source something so bad? The grapes were tiny too. After that experience our group vowed never to eat there again and took the time, trouble and expense to dine out every night. Shocking stuff. Aside from this restaurant I did like the hotel and gave it 4 stars.

Always a pleasure visiting here. Great range of soups and reasonably priced coffee £2 or pot of tea £1.60 (Dec '18). The staff are friendly and there's a outdoor seating area which in summer is a real sun trap.
