Glen Nevis Restaurant and Lounge Bar in Highland

Location and food was great, exactly what we needed after a few days in the motorhome doing a lot of driving. I would have given a higher score however the dog policy is what made our experience a little uncomfortable. I don’t often post reviews and this isn’t a bad review, more just some feedback and my thoughts on my experience. We have two dogs, a Hungarian Vizsla and a German Shorthaired Pointer and at 20kg each they are not big at all for their breeds. Granted they are excitable but settle well as they are used to sitting in pubs and restaurants as we take them with us to a lot of places. The ‘Dog Policy’ is a set of rules to ensure customers are not made to feel uncomfortable by dogs yet the restaurant has seemed to forget that the dog owners are customers too. It’s impossible to fit a medium sized dog underneath the table including their tails (even with my dogs being docked!) due to the one large leg and stand under the tiny tables and to be repeatedly told to make sure the dogs are kept out of the way of is aisles before we had even sat down didn’t feel very welcoming, I put them where I thought was best but was worried I’d be told they need to move somewhere else. My GSP was startled by another large dog and she barked, not ideal and not a common occurrence, however being aware of the one bark rule, I felt panicked and rush to quickly finish my meal and get out of there incase she did it again. My dogs were well behaved during our meal and we weren’t asked to do anything because of them but I’m a stickler for rules and felt really anxious that they would do something “naughty”! We’ve done quite a lot of travelling round the uk with our dogs and visited a lot of dog friendly places. Needless to say, there is a difference between allowing dogs and being dog friendly. I noticed from previous reviews that dogs haven’t been allowed in the past, why people have an issue with that, I honestly don’t know because a lot of campsite facilities don’t allow dogs. Since allowing dogs, I don’t know what incidents have occurred to warrant such a policy but everyone’s experience is a new one and unfortunately ours wasn’t as relaxing as we’d have hoped for a long day of travelling. I do think a simple sign on the door to say ‘we are dog friendly, however if they misbehave or disturb other guests we will ask you to relocate outside’ would be sufficient. Asides from this the food was lovely.

Fantastic food , great staff especially Lauren , nice and freindly , had a laugh too , hence the post it note lol good prices too. . Good quality food too

We stayed in the camp site very right next to the restaurant and came in one night for dinner. Staff were extremely friendly and the food was great and well priced. I had the Haggis and loved it. Would definitely recommend

My only disappointment about this restaurant is the limited menue. It's such a shame that so-called pub classics, such as, for example, gammon steak or scampi, are not included. There is an emphasis on locally produced food and drink, which is to be applauded, but surely there's someone who could supply locally produced meat and seafood. Having said that, what is on offer is superb. The food is beautifully cooked, with ample portions prepared and served by polite and attentive staff in a most pleasant environment. A delightful place to eat.

I had a taste for fish and chips and I got what I paid for, I hope it's not a healthy meal but it was worth a little wait at the bar. Good atmosphere

An absolute treasure of a find!! Right next to Glen Nevis Campsite, this restaurant was excellent. Menu had a lovely selection to choose from. Food was amazing, we had three courses, although I struggled to finish main and sweet! The service was fantastic, it was a perfect blend between friendly and efficient. Our server was superb - she answered our questions on the menu and drinks, checked to see if everything was fine. She was so attentive! It was only minutes between ordering drinks and them appearing! Outstanding service - Thank you!

The least dog friendly , ‘ dog friendly’ place . Went to the dog friendly bar area with a really friendly, well behaved clean Labrador . Locals were petting her by the bar for the bar maid to approach us and ask if we had a towel for the dog as people were eating . Rather confused by this I asked her to repeat herself , she replied that people were eating the dog would need to be towel dried . Bizarre as she wasn’t particularly wet and we were in the bar area , not the restaurant . Needless to say , if the dog isn’t welcome then neither am I . If they want towel dried dogs , try taking a leaf from the Lake District and supply them at the door ! Appalling behaviour. Felt sorry for the male bar tender who was clearly embarrassed by the whole incident .

The place is lovely the staff are lovely and helpful and cheerful 😊. During the week it's opened at three. Saturday and Sunday open at 12 noon. Dogs 🐕🐕 are allowed in the bar part but not the dining area. They only have Scottish Beers and lager's not any English Beers/lager's. £6 a pint.

We went here on friday as we were on holiday and we wanted to find a pub at the last minute. This place did not disappoint. The staff were lovely and there was a sign outside saying walkers and dogs welcome, as we found it hard to find a pub where we could go with our walking gear on. We wanted comfort food and we definitely got it. I had a venison pie and sticky toffee pudding and my bf had a chicken and haggis and the strawberry tart. I normally take pictures but we were starving. The price was good and the staff were friendly so its a must visit if your in Fort William. My server was Carol and she was lovely. She couldnt do enough for us. Lovely and polite and welcomed us with a smile.

Very nice food, I loved the chicken with haggis and bacon ! Anna, our waitress was very polite and professional. The restaurant and bar were pretty busy which did not impact the service at all. Nice place to go to treat yourself after Ben Nevis!

A lovely restaurant with a nice relaxed atmosphere and good food at the foothills of Ben Nevis. We sampled several different things from the menu and all were very nice. Anna, our waitress was very pleasant and happy which perfected our evening. We would recommend a meal here to anyone visiting Fort William!

Totally 5⭐️ We had booked a table for 5.30pm, but due the horrendous traffic we didn’t arrive until 6pm. We had to phoned on our way to advise that we’d be late. They had to give our table away but said they’d accommodate. They were true to their word and we were seated immediately. Front desk of house were very friendly and helpful. Our drinks arrived promptly after the order was taken. Nice menu. We ordered 2 chicken wrapped in bacon stuffed with hagis, whiskey sauce, mash, tender stem broccoli and roasted honey carrots. Absolutely delicious; arrived quickly and hot. 1 cheeseburger and chips which was also delicious. With soft drinks. A little pricey but happy to pay for the excellent food and service. Nicely laid out restaurant and bar and very busy. Definitely make a reservation to avoid disappointment. Well done everyone.

I went here for dinner after climbing Ben Nevis for a well earned treat and it's a really nice restaurant with a great vibe. All the food I had was really nice and fresh and was locally sourced (I think). I had chicken tenders, a burger and sticky toffee pudding to finish, all in it was about £50

We expected much less good given the location and ultimately it wasn't bad at all. Very very good Haggis and fish & ships

I liked that there is a vegan option for all courses, and the nice service. I had the curry (the only vegan option when I was there for the main), it was a bit bland for my taste, but okay

Literally the best restaurant in the Highlands, if not all of Scotland! Exceptional food, especially the meat steaks, friendly and helpful staff and warm and welcoming place. I recommend going here if you are near Fort Williams, or even if you are a half hour drive away, I assure you that it is worth it!

Very cozy restaurant with friendly service but above all a delicious veggie burger with portobello and halloumi. Highly recommended for veggies, but also a delicious option as a non-veggie.

Nice pub and restaurant had haggis and was delicious we were a group of 40 odd and all the meals were great I believe they even opened earlier to accommodate us so brilliant.

Good food, very friendly staff. We were wrong about the content of the menu and they included dessert at no additional cost.

Food was actually good. If you are tired after a hike at the waterfall and need good food to get some energy, then this is the best place. The atmosphere inside is very cozy and the food is delicious. Fish and chips were good, pork chops were good. Harissa cauliflower was nice too, I was expecting a hot version but that could only be me. May be harissa is served cold. Service could have been a little better. It feels like in UK at restaurant service, staff is accommodating but not welcoming.

Everything was great, the atmosphere was fabulous, you do stay at the campsite, ideal for dinner or a delicious whiskey. Having a wide range.

We were here for the second time today. Ate well both times (fish & chips, mushroom burger, steak, venison pie - only the curry was a bit off and could have been spicier). Coffee good too. The staff is very friendly, the price is ok.

A beautiful restaurant with a kind waitress called Maureen ;). The dinner was perfect, the atmosphere was warm and lovely.

My wife had fish and chips which looked nice i ordered Scottish Mac and cheese the cheese sauce was all runny like water will not be having that again for £14 👎

Decent food, though I felt there could have been more vegetarian options (the menu we were given was not the one as shown on Google). The sticky toffee pudding was literally the best I have tried in my entire life. Great service, pleasant atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.

Food is served either in the restaurant (you need to book for the restaurant) or bar meals. Really good food and reasonably priced. I'm told their chicken stuffed with haggis was excellent ! Great service and terrific atmosphere.

Was staying at caravan site and had climbed Ben Nevis. Very close to site and has good selection of lagers and a few ales on draft. Expect £6 per pint.

Went for our wedding anniversary bit disappointed not much flavour to food hubby had tomahawk pork steak and I had steak fritta small.and shrivelled up had dessert they was OK .

The restaurant is very clean and the staff are very friendly. The food is very delicious. We ordered vegan curry and mushroom burger mac and cheese. It didn't take long for the food to come out and it was very warm and delicious. I sprained my foot while hiking, but as soon as they saw me, they provided me with ice. The staff are very friendly. I would like to visit again when I come back to Scotland.

We just love it here. We go every time we're in Fort Bill and our most recent visit was even better. We had just walked the west Highland way, we were soaked through and it was getting late. We got to the Glen Nevis and it was really busy, but still they made every effort to get us seated and looked after us. What a lovely team!!! Thank you 🙌 x

Very disappointed, the portobello mushroom and halloumi burger lacked filling and the chips were over cooked. The beef burger was tough and dry.... I certainly won't be going back. The speed that the food was bought out meant it couldn't possibly be cooked fresh....

What a bonus having this bar/restaurant on the edge of the camping site. Food was excellent at really reasonable prices, attentive service and a good choice of drinks. Superb.

All staff welcoming and could not be anymore helpful. The chicken and haggis was divine. Broccoli cooked to perfection.The haddock and chips for my boxer Gertrude was superb. She gave it the paws up. Sticky toffee pudding so good should have ordered two. Very quick service. Meal hot. Very good price. Haste ye back----------yes indeed.

It was perfect! We stayed in a neighboring village but opted to eat here on 3 different occasions! By far the best food, service and atmosphere! Everything was delicious and the staff is fantastic! The lamb & mint burger on a beetroot bun was amazing! As well as the venison port pie!! We will be back when we are back in Scotland! Thank you!

Fantastic restaurant. In 2022 after completing the West Highland Way, I will have strengthened considerably here. Now in 2024 after a road trip through Scotland we had a delicious meal again.

This place was exactly what me and a mate were after following completing Ben Nevis and not really wanting to trek into town. As we were staying at the youth hostel. Would definitely recommend.

Nice food, didn't have any real ale on tap when I was there. Probably advisable to book a table in restaurant at busy periods but same menu can be eaten in the bar. Easy access from the campsite. No dogs allowed in but there are tables outside.

All the staff were friendly and chatty. Great menu, good to see vegan options too. Food portions were ENORMOUS, but hubby managed to eat all of his!! No room for puds, which was a shame as the vegan waffle sounded amazing. Would definitely recommend. Lots of parking, nice atmosphere and everywhere was clean. Will go back if we visit Fort William again.

Very enjoyable meal and located close enough to the campsite to avoid getting too wet walking there.

Well equipped (if slightly impersonal) camping and caravanning site. Surrounding scenery is stunning. The restaurant looks a little unprepossessing from the outside, but the food is excellent with good, friendly service. The site is let down by the toilet and shower block, which are a bit dated and could do with modernisation.

Lovely cooked homely food in a perfect location, it was nice sitting outside surrounded by the mountains. Sadly not much choice of gins, however we still enjoyed our visits Great prices too

In Fort William for 2 days around a Ben Nevis trek, I tried the Nevis when unable to get in several other bars / restaurants. Very glad I did. Although also very busy, they took my name for a table, I went to the bar for good beer and was called through more quickly than I expected on evening 2, and ate at a table in the bar in evening 1. Good atmosphere, friendly staff and good food - just what I wanted. I recommend the Ben Nevis golden ale!

Nach einer Wanderung sind wir hier auf ein Bier eingekehrt. Sehr freundlicher und zuvorkommender Service, gutes Bier, angenehmes Ambiente (innen und außen).

Busy pub , super quick food, Big tasty portions. I had the veggie burger and asked specifically was it spicey, was told no but it actually had chilli in it. When I mentioned this to the older waiter collecting our plates, he was apologetic, said he would make sure all the staff knew it had chilli in and offer free dessert although I wasn’tasking. Perfect way to deal with an issue , hence the 5 stars . And the cheesecake was delicious!

Wow, the food, the service, the atmosphere all perfect. Nothing seems to be too much bother. The steak pie is to die for as is the Cranachan cheesecake. It's a must visit

Vermutlich auf Grund der Nähe zu einem großen Campingplatz ist abends viel los. Es empfiehlt sich zu reservieren. Die Gerichte des Restaurants können auch in der angrenzenden Bar bestellt werden Das Personal war jederzeit freundlich und zuvorkommend.

Went to dinner here 2 nights in a row during our trip to hike Ben Nevis as were staying at the youth hostel nearby. Excellent and friendly service, and it was great both nights - first when we didn’t have a reservation so ate cafeteria style at the bar and next evening when we had the quieter restaurant booking. Didn’t matter as food was off the same menu and excellent both evenings. The potato skins in particular were to die for with generous portions. The rest of the food too was great and made for great pre and post hiking fuel! It was obvious this was a special place for Fort William locals who are otherwise starved for great places to eat.

Live in Glasgow . Just been touring around the NC500 . We have two springers and have had no end of dog friendly places , Arrive here and everyone with a dog has to sit outside amongst midges !!! Totally unfair and annoying. Didn’t bother to stay for a drink … well behaved dogs should be acceptable.

Carol waited on our table and she is fantastic. We enjoyed her fun personality and great customer service. The food was cooked well and we had a delicious key lime tart for dessert. The restaurant was a 5-minute or less walk from the campground.

Great little restaurant with simple fare and good beers. Great to have near your camping ground!

We had the soup and it was okay. It would have been nice to have more options for vegans and vegetarians. Beautiful restaurant and certainly adequate for travelers.

We did not have a booking, but they accommodated us on request. The food was very good and the service was top notch.

5 minute walk from Glen Nevis camp site. Enjoy a drink and meal after a long hike. Large portions, busy during peak times so book early.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Ate here twice during my stay and been on previous visits. A really nice, chilled out relaxed restaurant with really friendly staff. Really tasty food , good menu choices and reasonably priced. Much better than the majority of places in Fort William. Would recommend to anyone.

Staff where excellent. Food was bland & clearly out of a packet, I had sausage & mash (was on the special board) can only assume it was on there as the sausages was going to expire soon, mash was "okay" would find better at a weatherspoons. My wife had scampi & chips. Scampi was mostly bread crumbs & air. Chips was out of a bag from aldi or lidl, the tartar sauce certainly wasn't home made. Overall staff where great just a shame the chef wasn't nor the produce he was cooking. Better off going to a spoons for the money

Eigentlich hat dieses Restaurant gute Bewertungen, aber der Service war wirklich nicht gut. Wir wurden mit 1,5h Wartezeit an die Bar geschickt, bevor wir einen Tisch bekamen. Neben uns durften aber einige Tische auch essen in der Bar bestellen, was man uns nicht erlaubte. Das Essen war ebenso nicht besonders. Sehr volles Restaurant, wer dort hin will sollte reservieren

We hebben hier heerlijk gegeten. De vis was echt heel lekker, niet zo vet en behoorlijk grote porties. De kinderen hadden een burger en hebben er van genot. Bedankt voor de fijne avond.
