Glen Garden Cafe in Scarborough

Came yesterday was perfect for a cup of tea and cheesecake. Young lad serving was nice and had a good work ethic clearing tables and wiping down 👍

Nice little spot friendly young staff that obviously listened to their brief. Helpful, friendly, clean and polite. Great place..👍🏻

Just about finished my jkt potatoe with chillie .then noticed 3 big black eyes in my potatoe .it put me off straight away .took it back .this old lady .bad attitude started saying all potatoes ave eyes in them.wat do u want me to do .youve nearly eaten it .bad attitude should not be in a job like that .like a pit bull she was.wont eat again there.just stick to aving a coffee or ice cream in future.

I’m still baffled. Ordered two sausage rolls, paid for them. I was then asked if they were to eat in or take away, one was to eat in and one to take away. It’s 30p extra to take a sausage roll away. No plate for the staff to wash up but apparently a small paper bag warrants a mark up on price. Absolutely ridiculous. Then they wanted 10p extra for ketchup. Tea and coffee tasted like dishwater too. Better off bringing your own food and drink if you visit the park or the beach. 30p extra to take away food, owners need a reality check.

A nice place to stop for coffee and cake, in lovely surroundings. Will definitely go back next time in Filey, maybe have brunch and an ice cream too.

We had bacon sandwiches which was lovely and a cuppa tea cost us £12

Visited a couple of times over the years. Enjoy what we have although they tend to be light bikes. Ice creams, buns or toasties Always a coffee or two Very pleasant patient staff, warm welcome. Undoubtedly will visit again

Lovely cafe, plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, staff are lovely, lots of options on the menu, dog friendly too, will definitely return.

*Poor customer service* Party of 7 with a dog spending £45 on jacket potatoes and chips and sausage type meals. Person who took the order was young and obviously inexperienced as I noticed he kept missing parts of the order (me reading it upside down). Order came fast and was bog standard food as you'd expect. I noticed that my jacket potato had cheese and coleslaw instead of beans and coleslaw (which I ordered) and kindly asked if I could have it changed over or added - the young man told me to take my plate back and he would sort it. He came back to tell me it would cost me a £1 extra for beans - I informed him that I asked for them on my order and that I didnt think it would be normal practice to pay extra to replace the wrong ingredient. Out came one one of the rudest staff members I've ever encountered - instantly aggressive pointing at the young man's order sheet saying it's what I ordered - I informed her I didn't and he had wrote it incorrectly... She pointed as the sheet aggressively and said this is what you ordered and "Didn't I read it as he was writing it!" and if you want the beans it will be an extra £1... I felt quite uncomfortable sat at my table being berated after saying twice that it wasn't my issue and said it was ok to avoid any further confrontation. My wife felt it was rude enough that she couldn't leave it unaddressed and went up to speak to her... With the plate untouched - she was met with an instant elevated aggressive tone - stating it's not what I asked for and she still wouldn't replace it - they got into a shouting match with my wife who is the most mild mannered person. I suggested a refund if the extra portion of beans added was an issue - she said no chance am I having a refund very aggressively. I then told her the reason I can't eat a lot of cheese is due to a personal health condition to which was met with sarcasm. She said I'll make you another then but you'll be waiting half hour!!! And stormed off... (Cut nose off to spite her face) All they had to do was bring me a small pot of beans and I was made to feel like I was stealing from the establishment - we spent money on food , drinks and desserts even a dog sausage. They short changed my wife for ketchup and we didn't complain - accidents happen but the customer service was absolutely disgusting - I hope the lady in question re-evaluates her management technique in the future. She was rather vile in her approach. The table next to us found us outside and said that the person who seemed to be in charge (god help them) was out of order and said the cafe had forgotten their order completely and the lad on the till didn't even hand over the order receipt to the kitchen - and they were sat waiting for half hour ( yet we were made to feel like we made the error when he obviously wasn't up to his task at hand ). It is not our job to manage and double check your staff - he also didn't read the order back to us at the time either... When she stormed off I said to another lady that worked there that I truly wasn't after any argument and I am just shocked at what's going on - she at least showed empathy on her face and said she would speak to the rude woman - whether or not she was being genuine I dont know but that's CUSTOMER SERVICE. Maybe a rejig in staff leadership is needed. Shocking really, I've never experienced something like that. I can only hope someone reaches out with people skills and apologises to me on behalf of the establishment and the lady seeks further training in hospitality. My family had eaten while this happened so I had to then eat alone and I couldn't eat my food as I didn't feel hungry after a shouting match plus I wasn't sure if she would have done something to my food as she didn't show a stable personality while dealing with me in person so I can't imagine what she may have done to my food. This was over a portion of beans.

Dropped in for meal. Dog friendly inside. Basic but ok food. Staff nice but not engaging. Clean and functional.

Nice & relaxed location, on a high vantage point close to the South Ravine. Plenty of indoor tables, for when it's wet & cold, & a lot of outdoor seating, too, for our 'summers'. Good value cakes. Somewhere to get away from it all.

Brought a large school party here for ice creams, Jane and all the staff were excellent. Many thanks.

We loved both our visits to Glen Gardens Cafe. The first one was in the rain after a woodland walk with my dog. I had tea and cake and Jacko enjoyed a sausage and some treats. We were made to feel very welcome and the place was cosy and friendly. The little nook was lovely with dog blankets and books 📚 aswell as comfy sofas. The second visit was for a breakfast with my partner and our other dog Reo. The weather was sunny on this occasion and we had a lovely view of the bay. Food was great and service was excellent. We will be back. Thank you. 🙏 🐾 🥾 🌊

Screaming children. Apple pie was just pastry no apple. Supposedly dog welcome but made to feel unwelcome.

My family and I called in last week to buy ice creams and were cheerily and warmly greeted by the lovely ladies who served us. A very busy day for them but they were charming. The ice cream was good too! Would recommend, a delightful setting in the gardens and opposite the long stay car park. A joy to visit! Thank you ladies.

Had an amazing bacon sandwich so much bacon on it and cooked perfectly my husband had a cheeseburger and he said it was lovely , staff were really friendly will definitely be going again

Great little spot. Very friendly staff dog friendly indoors and out food prepared freshly to order at reasonable prices too . If your eating outside watch out for the odd cheeky seagull.

Wanted first aid for my son. Happy to do it myself but needed a wipe and plaster. Was told by staff we have a first aid kit but we can’t use it… why have one then. Walked 10yards round the corner to White Lodge Cafe and they helped us out. Poor customer service and poor attitude by staff. To turn a child in need away. Shocking.

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be. Perhaps the staff had had a bad day, but a smile or two wouldn't go amiss. Cheer up, it's Filey! There was a monstrous queue for ice cream outside but only 3 staff in the kiosk. No queue inside, lots of staff but "you have to queue outside for ice cream." Why? It's a mystery. The cafe was recently redecorated. Not that you'd know! 😉 The toilets are grim. There's a ramp for disabled access. And, one more thing... The door was closed and locked at 16.05 precisely!

Had a bad experience today long wait / strange tasting coffee and to cap it all we had spent £17 on food and drink but our 4yr old grandson who has a very limited diet and does not eat anything off menu's, has a little pack up we make him. We were half way through our food when approached by one of the staff and told to pay £4.95 😠 because he was eating his own food ( yes they do have sign's saying this) but we had bought 3 meals! What these people don't understand is bad news travels fast.

Make sure you don't have your child's drink on view when you use this place, or expect a rant from the owner. For clarity, our son and grandkids went on the pedalos and left all their phones and bags (on the table) with us while we went in for a coffee. Out comes the owner ranting about a child's drinking bottle. We totally understand that your own food/drinks cannot be consumed in the cafe, we didn't, we hadn't and we wouldn't. This was totally unexpected as the rest of the staff were more than friendly, and would otherwise received 5*. we are still quite shocked at the owner.

Rude member of staff reducing a 5 year old to tears, you should be ashamed! You need to be in a more appropriate job where you dont have to deal with the public!! Absolutely disgraceful behaviour..... would never return or recommend.

Awful establishment. Please avoid this place at all costs. The food and drinks are disgusting. Some of the older staff are very rude and need to learn basic manners.

Beautiful outdoors area, clean and tidy. Had coffee, from the take away window, it was OK but only a instant coffee machine, not fresh ground. But the server was absolutely lovely, we should have asked about the indoor café/restaurant coffee instead.

Good place for reasonably priced food and drink.

A delightful and comfortable cafe with lovely staff who couldn’t have been nicer. Free dog treats for my pooch. We had a latte, scone with jam and cream ; which we guarded from Simon the Seagull. (He was lurking but decided against it). Highly recommended and we will be back.

Dogs very well come, my pups add peanut butter ice-cream they loved very minute, Pups happy I am happy 😊

Alright for a quick bite but dont expect anything groundbreaking. Cafe was very busy but service was slow and disjointed. Had the chilli nacho special which was ok and one of our party had fish finger sandwich and chips which was very dry and the chips obviously cooked from frozen and slightly undercooked.

Went today 24/5/23, service very very slow, ordered two coffees and two cakes £12, coffee was and looked just awful, tasted like instant powder supermarket budget value range. Would not recommend.

A great little café with friendly staff, serving good traditional and reasonably priced food, plus great ice cream and cakes! Convenient location in the park, plenty of space, between tables, children and dog friendly! A little dated, but part of its charm, highly recommended *****

Lovely place to sit. Near the playground toilets that are free. Good food at good prices.

My daughter bought a pizza to share with her two little boys. It looked awful and tasted awful. It cost 9 pounds I went to the counter and one of the young girls got who I think was supervisor a more mature woman. I explained that we weren’t happy with the pizza she asked me to go get it and she said you’ve eaten half so I’ll refund you half. I said actually they haven’t the kids coudnt eat it. She was so rude I think a training course of customer communication would be an idea. She gave me 4 pounds back no apology nothing. We’ll never been before certainly won’t be back I only regret not taking a picture. The young staff were pleasant .

The new owners have really tidied things up and the cafe now looks lovely. The staff were lovely and welcoming and very friendly and it's also dog friendly. However it was a little slow and the coffee wasn't great. Not proper batista coffee. There was lots of good bacon in our butties but the bread could have been fresher.

Rude staff, asked for a cheese and bacon toasties and was refused but offered ham instead although bacon is on the menu. Toastie came without the cheese. No sauces. On reflection, expensive for what you get.

Rude and disrespectful staff, as a 27 weeks pregnant woman I called in and asked politely if I could us the toilet, they very rudely declined because I wasn't a paying customer to which I explained I didn't have my purse on me, I had left it in the car I was taking the kids for a walk. But no they still wouldn't let me use it and I did tell them I was pregnant and you could also tell I was pregnant! They just have no dignity or respect for others.

Called here this afternoon. Although it was a typically cold winters day, we weren't allowed inside. We had a coffee each, which was probably the worst we've ever tasted. We asked for more milk, which was issued as though it was on ration. We won't use this cafe again

When we arrived we wasnt greeted, half of the menu was crossed out I had asked if they do a kids meal as in do kids sandwich meal deal and they said no the sandwich are the same size, I wouldn’t mind but there 4.50 and they don’t eat much (and that’s just for the sandwiches) they came out and the ham was so fatty my daughter couldn’t eat it found the staff rude and just basically couldn’t be bothered, defo taking a picnic next time I visit the gardens,

Ordered a waffle a couple months ago, was very nice but took 10 minutes for it to arrive. Wasn’t bad.

After a long walk around Filey, this was a nice little find. It was a hot day and with a baby, sitting outside with no shade wasn't really an option. Thankfully there is plenty of seating inside. We only had coffee and cake but it was nice. The burgers I saw being served to another table looked epic. I must say the carrot cake was lovely. The only down side (minor one) is there are no facilities for baby changing

Two of the best gluten free cakes I've had in a very long time. Thoroughly recommend the carrot cake and chocolate fudge cake, both gluten free and both really moist and delicious.

Walked all the way out from the far end of town for a full English & coffee. ‘CASH ONLY’ Why, in the 21st century 🤷🏻‍♂️ Business taken elsewhere !

Great little cafe. Visited here twice, once for ice cream on a hot day and then for drinks after playing pitch and putt. They stock a great range of items and the staff are really friendly! 5* all rounder.

We visited on holiday, and really enjoyed our lunch, very large portions and super friendly staff. The older lady even popped a 20 pence piece in the ride on toy for my little girl to have a go. Would definitely return. Only downside was cash only, but maybe their card machine wasn't working that day

Great location in the park but the coffee (instant) could be a lot better considering the premium prices they’re asking.

Called for a cappuccino, when I asked were they nice the young lady and gent had no idea? It was actually disgusting. Didn’t even taste like coffee. My husband had an Americano which was equally disappointing. Shame as this cafe is in such beautiful gardens.

Not a destination in itself, but has good access to the beach and some park equipment and a cafe (during the on season). When we are in Filey we use it as a meeting point before going to the beach or somewhere to escape the masses for a brief moment.

Very nice latte. Glen gardens seems to me to be a relaxing step back in time. Sitting on the cafe patio is ideal to people watch and to see children having fun.

Ice cream was great. The coffee out of a polystyrene cup was not. Convenient location though with a great park nearby.

£8. Coffee and cake for 2 Finger slab of lemon drizzle, fizzy machine coffee served in a polystyrene cup and cake to eat with a wooden spoon! Beautiful little park in a great spot but I'll leave the cafe be next time.

Now doing gluten free cakes. Excellent hot food and drinks. A must visit when in Filey.

Excellent park setting, views over the bay, cafe with one way system and signing in book. Ice cream parlour with out door seating which is cleaned after each customer.

Food is good but the service is pathetic. Long waits for no apparent.

It's like going back in time to the 70's with a great atmosphere and music played in the background. The full English breakfast is to die for (and you probably would quickly if had every day!). The owners are friendly Yorkshire folk and make you welcome with or without your dog. Good views over the park as well. Highly recommend.

Best cheesy chips...delightful cafe. A family favourite to visit.

We have been here several times- why? Just because it in the centre of the park. There is no other reason I would eat here. My experience if the food has been that it is disgusting and I don’t think I have ever been served by a member of staff who looks over 18. Good for ice creams but that’s where t ends. Take a picnic. Photo is of the chips my son ordered then left most of them. Can’t think why.....

Awesome food, outdated decor, but it doesn't make much of a difference to how much you'll enjoy this place! Extremely busy sometimes though, so if you're a little claustrophobic, I would recommend sitting outside. Also a waiting time if it's busy, but the staff are so friendly!!

This cafe is fantastic.food excellent nothing is to much trouble.DOG FRIENDLY IN AND OUT.park is amazing with loads of seating mini golf.small boating lake.swings etc.recommend a visit.

Nice cafe but with dated decore. But it boasts friendly staff, a good selection of home made cakes and great old fashioned coffee. We enjoyed everyone of our visits.

Great place to go before going to or from the south end of Filey prom. Coffee too hot to drink straight away. Nice little cafe / gift shop / ice cream parlour rolled into one place.

It's a café - the food is plain but nicely cooked and presented. Prices are very reasonable. The premises are both dog-friendly and clean and well kept. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful - the young man who took our order was especially polite and notably patient with elderly customers. Definitely recommend!

I have been coming here since I was a little girl. Best place to get sun during the whole day on their terrace. Just wish they were open when I was in town !
