I have to be honest, I was expecting this restaurant to be a lot better than it was. When our starter came, one of my fried wings was still cold in the centre. When my Fillet steak arrived, it was tiny and overcooked.

Lovely meal with attentive friendly staff.

Decor needs updating, cleaning needs to be improved, floor was stained, time travel is possible. I had the feeling of being in a spit and sawdust pub of the early 1900's.

I give 5 stars to the waitress we had today (I think her name was Lucy). She was so attentive and really looked after us. My son is autistic and is prone to melt downs. He was about to have an episode when our server, Lucy, came over and started talking to her son about his tablet and the game he was playing. My son absolutely loved Lucy and they really bonded! Such a lovely natured young lady and a credit to your company!! However, the reason for the 3 stars is because previously when we have visited for breakfast we had a very poor service. We made to feel like an inconvenience by our server (I think her name was Lisa or something along the lines of). It wasn’t even busy is the restaurant yet she had an attitude and almost seemed like she just didn’t want customers coming in! It costs nothing for a smile and actually takes more effort to be unkind!! Luckily, Lucy’s service has kept you a customer!!

We visited the glegg arms for my nieces birthday, the Food was absolutely delicious, my two boys had the large mix grill and they cleaned their plates. I had the hunters chicken which was cooked perfectly. The staff were nice and friendly and there's a play area for the kids to play which they loved. We would definitely go again.

Stephanie and Wendy have exemplary customer service skills and really make you feel welcome. We come for breakfast as a family from time to time as £10 per adult and children free is GREAT value. The food is cooked to order and the buffet breakfast offering is always well stocked. The service is always helpful but no overly fussy. All in all a great little pit stop before we go off for a day out. Thanks for a great breakfast experience again. Sub note: yes the decor needs a good refurb and no doubt the kitchen will too but this isn’t an issue for the staff but the owners. Wendy and kids

Went for Sunday lunch. Everything including toasties were frozen. Brown outside hard in the middle. Worse Sunday lunch I have ever had.

Firstly, don't think 3 stars means something is wrong, Glegg arms is still a reasonable place to grab a meal. The staff were extremely polite and made the whole experience very pleasant. The food, although tasty and cooked well, lacked imagination, the whole menu just felt a bit too bland to me, despite Beefeater's attempts at innovation. The atmosphere and setting is where I was really let down, as the place felt very run down unfortunately.

I booked a table for Mother’s Day for half 5, ok turned up early at 5 got seated 10 minutes for drinks to be done at bar as went up, 15 mins before I had to ask someone weather order at bar or table service, got told would come table. 3 adults and a 15 month old, took order I order garlic flat bread as starter and child spaghetti bolognaise (to come out with starter) mum ordered roast lamb to be told run out of roasts? so 5.15 order took and starter came out at 6.10 witch was 4 burnt and hard pieces of garlic bread and child bolognaise was more spaghetti than bolognaise, stepdad went bar yet again witch took further 10 minutes. Starter came out and the women was bit short with me when said about starter kids bolognaise came with garlic bread whitch I said just the bolognaise so basically we got the 2 piece that came with kids meal as starter with 2 extra pieces added. On the screen preparation time for 3 steaks was 51 mins at this point it was a joke asked and got told plating up now and will be 5 mins that was at 20 past 6 and then still nothing left at half 6/ 25 to 7 but had to ask girl to clear starter plates really not impressed at all first time for myself aswell never again

Great waiting staff - they were a credit to this restaurant. Unfortunately, food a little bit of a let down - bacon cold and a long wait due to issues in the kitchen. This being said we will be back.

Since being redecorated since I last visited quite a long time ago, it is now all pale brown and magnolia and not cosy at all in my opinion. It is very sparse in decor like a hospital waiting room or a hospital canteen in its lack of cosy decor - what happened to red and gold and orange to make a place warm and inviting. Food not great either in my opinion - I couldn't even chew through some of the coleslaw and the sandwiches were too wet and sloppy in my opinion. Disappointing.

Went for a family meal - Service was polite and attentive however a lot of the items on the menu weren't available. 3 things that we wanted to order as well, particularly the sirloin steaks and Mac Cheese. I ordered a grilled chicken burger which was just a fairly dry chicken breast in a bun with some salad which wasn't the best. Overall, I'd say this was just a bad night on their end as I've eaten here before numerous times and had no issues.

Worst roast I’ve ever had. Booked for 8 people for a birthday. Took 1 hour for our food to come out. Our food came out with little to no gravy on the plate, no parsnips despite being on the menu. Unknown meat on the plate (supposed to be lamb) l. Asked for the unlimited gravy, roasties and yorkshires to be told no gravy left and that’s why there wasn’t much on the plate. Also not brought any additional roasties or Yorkshire puddings. Unable to find a member of staff to speak to for 10 minutes. Meat dry and fatty. Vegetable hard. Which wasn’t made better with the lack of gravy. When we managed to speak to a member of staff informed that they had been busier than usual. Very disappointing meal and will not be coming back.

Food good but for the brioche bun. Why do all pubs insist on brioche bun: too sweet. Very slow service. Meals warm, but tedious waiting for condiments. Cold restaurant. Definitely not value for money.

Arrived at 10:25, last entry for breakfast is 11. No Croissants, no Pancakes, no pau au chocolate, no bread, no Nutella, no apple juice, coffee machine was broke and its been 50 minutes and still sat here without our hot breakfast. Absolute joke. Staff just kept walking past not even a sorry it will be out shortly. And when approached about continental being empty, wad told irs been like that since Christmas. Should have signs or make people aware before seating them at a table. Will not be back.. left with no breakfast

We love coming here, The staff are always welcoming, friendly, polite and can never do enough for you especially also a big shout out to the polish lady we have a bit of banter with in trying to speak and learn some polish with her 😁 We tend to visit weekends either on a Saturday or a Sunday every few weeks with family, The food is very good with a good variety and selection of breakfast for all taste buds, Food the last few times we have been is just as good as the service

Came with a voucher which was supplied by way of apology for a major mess up over a birthday booking. There were 3 tables occupied but we had to wait to order then when finished nobody came to clear the table or ask if we wanted anything else. We had wanted to order coffee but hey nothing like being ignored to change your mind!!! Have had 1 too many issues with this place now...Will NOT go again. Not recommended there are many better options nearby!

Not even worthy of 1 star ! Poor service, Christmas dinner appalling even though it was booked, paid in full and pre-ordered 2 months in advance. We did get a full refund, but clearly not the point ! Poor service, no communication between staff, waitress when you could actually find her was very non-chalont about the situation, booked in for 3pm Christmas Day, no acknowledgment from staff, waiting until 4pm for starters, eventually got main course at 5.15pm….. cancelled deserts & obtained full refund…..left at 6pm Couple sitting next to us walked out after nearly 2 hours waiting for starters ! Don’t waste your time or hard earned money on going here. Avoid Avoid Avoid !

The Glegg Arms ruined our Christmas day ! Where do I even begin ?! Sat for 1 hour waiting for someone to even acknowledge our party where their sitting waiting for our starters which we had all pre booked and paid in full for. Eventually starters came and the waitress collecting our plates half cleared our table and didn't see her again. Another 1 hour 30 minutes later we still had no sign of our mains. After constantly complained the food turned up and wow it wasn't even worth waiting for. Rock hard vegetables, just about cooked roasties, stone cold turkey all in watery thin gravy. We didn't even stay for our paid for deserts. Every single family and couple dining in there was complaining about waiting times for food, some even walked out before their mains even came when we told the waitress they had gone she just shrugged her shoulders and said oh well. We got a full refund but sadly it still wasn't enough, Christmas day happens once a year and your dinner is a main part of the day and it was ruined. I was warned about the Glegg Arms and I won't be going again.

We were really excited for what seemed to be a great Christmas Day menu which was pre-ordered. Our booking was for 3:15pm which was what we thought to be the second seating for the lunch. On arrival, like many patrons, despite not being busy, we were left standing in reception waiting to be seated for at least 10 minutes. When eventually seated, after another 20 minutes we went to order our own drinks at the bar….. The table was sticky and dirty, we cleaned our cutlery with a hand sanitiser before use. Bathrooms were not attended to either. The starters for the pre ordered meal arrived after an hour. They were underwhelming, the cheese fondue starter as in the picture was bland and un appetising. After chatting to other patrons, some who had waited 3 hours for the main course, some who gave up and left, many who did not enjoy the meal, we made the decision to cancel our pre paid booking. The only redeeming fact is that the restaurant gave us a full refund and apology for what was a terrible experience. It could have been a better experience if the manageress was focused on customers and not stuck in the kitchen because they were clearly understaffed. We were not expecting a gourmet meal but certainly we would expect a better quality and a better experience for the price. Management should have been hands on and available, staff are clearly overwhelmed and overall we certainly will not be back for Christmas. I hope this review will help new management to give patrons a better experience.

Christmas Disaster: What a disappointment. Slow to be seated. Evenually gave up and went for own drinks. Tables sticky, cutlery dirty. Starters after about an hour. 2.5 hours after arrival had not received main course. Gave up and eventually got refund. We paid up front, they knew what we pre-ordered - how can it be so bad? Felt sorry for staff who under normal service would all have had healthy tips - shame on the management. Ratings of 1 star too high but that was the bottom number available.

We went for Christmas dinner we had a rocky start with customers telling us to leave as they had waited a long time between courses however our experience was much different we was there for just under 2 hours with all 4 courses served and a very friendly and helpful waitress who made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much food was very enjoyable. Thank you for a lovely end to our Christmas Day.

Unfortunately, our experience was not good. We had a table booked for 5pm and arrived in the restaurant at 4:50pm. There were a handful of tables already seated and we ordered at 5:15pm. By 6:15pm we had not received our food and when we queried were told it would be out in 10 mins. However, tables that had come in after us had ALL been served. At 6:30 we complained again as we gad booked the table at 5pm to enable us to be somewhere at 7pm. We had all (6 of us) purchased the Premier Inn meal and breakfast, so all bar myself had opted for main and dessert- not to be. We rushed the meal and no time for dessert at all. we were half an hour late for our event too. Staff were friendly but the food prep and service was too slow. We were refunded for the meals, which is appreciated but it ruined the evening.

Great steak real ale choice limited but nice doom bar pint

Waitress had a bad attitude and barely spoke. Half of the menu items unavailable alot of other tables were leaving. One table next to us had to send the food back because it was cold. Food was pretty gross. No interaction with our children, christmas menu was not christmassy at all. We were on a deal with premier inn yet nothing was explained to us so bill was incorrect. One other lady staff member was helpful when sorting the bill for us but the young girl couldn't be bothered. There was a poor lady crying in the toilet because they had messed up an order for her and a big table.We had breakfast already booked for the next day and after the evening were not looking forward to it... Luckily when attending breakfast all of the staff were friendly and helpful so this was a much better experience.

Love beefeater food, the Glegg always has a great atmosphere chilled and homely

They let us do a walk in which was very kind of them. The breakfast food however wasn't up to a decent standard so overall a let down. Bacon was plastic, sausages were powdery!? Mushroom were dry instead of oil fried, out of hash browns and the toast is part of the self serve which we didn't realise until after. Service was great! except for one very stressed member of staff but we will let that slide and give it a five overall for being accommodating and friendly.

My husband and I went for a Sunday roast. Oh my goodness it was amazing . Food was delicious and hot. Our server has polite and couldn't do enough for us.

A friend took me here for lunch as we were in the area. I had steak and chips with sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Both were really nice. Hope to eat here again in the future

My sister Booked a table for my nephews 16th birthday only to arrive to be told its closed for renovations. Ridiculous considering the website says the restaurant is open till 11pm . Big thankyou to the glegg Arms for ruining my nephews birthday

Lovely meal to end a lovely day with my girls...We had starters as our mains as we'd eaten too much out in Llagollen. Food was exceptional...

After a great day in Chester, we decided to visit this Beefeater for the first time and use a 33% discount voucher. Starters : Garlic flatbread and sharing nachos. The nachos was missing guacamole but no big deal. Mains : The kids meals came with beans and corn on the cob. The beans just covered the bottom of the container and then was mainly sauce. The corn on the cob was warm one half and cold the other. I was going for the flame grill combo which came with German sausage but got told there was no sausage so changed it for surf and turf - a dish I had enjoyed before at another Beefeater. The calamari was overcooked, the steak and prawns had the overpowering taste of charcoal and the chips seemed like old fat had been used. Not very nice. We didn't bother doing for dessert. And finally both the male and female toilets were dirty and messy.

I had fish and chips and hubby had the curry, both from the lunch menu, two mains for £12.99. Good portions and very nice food. Fish and chips were the nicest I've had in ages. Will definitely be back

I booked a table for 6 people as I'd had feedback from people who had been here before and they recommended it! I will never be going here again! 2 of the meals completely wrong, one of the smothered chicken had no bbq sauce, the other smothered chicken was burnt, onion rings burnt to a crisp and the peppercorn sauce for the steak was watery but lumpy at the bottom. The manager tried to blame the new waitress but surely if you have a new starter you supervise them more? She also tried to blame one of my party for not declaring a medical condition as to why she was given the wrong food. No condiments where offered. It was just a really disappointing experience.

We went out for a big birthday, party of 12. Took an hour for food to arrive, when it arrived there was a meal they had missed, another meal of ribs came out burnt to a crisp and all other meals were cold. Waited 40 minutes to order puddings as I wasn't allowed to order at the bar, but no one came to serve at our table. We were in there over 3 hours and no glasses were taken from our table. Service was very poor.

The food was just awful. Cooked breakfast was poor, and the self-service continental was shocking. The place was a bit grubby and dirty. We were told that the workers for the Open had been in and cleaned it out. They just should have said sorry, nothing left, and not took our order. Staff were pleasant enough, with no issue with them, and not their fault. Bacon and sausage dreadful. Undercooked meat and soggy wet eggs. Never again for us, i am afraid.

We decided to try this out. I had a mixed grill and it was huge and well cooked. Service was pleasant and efficient. The steak was a little pricey, but there are 40 % off discounts online.

Food wasn't very hot on the Sunday dinner

Visited Sunday for roast. Didn't not appear to be enough waiting on staff. The poor boy waiting us seemed to be rushed off his feet. Roast came it was cold there was a lot of grease and the roast potatoes had lots of black marks in, like they were off. Not great sadly.

Such a shame we have been once before and because our first visit was brilliant we came tonight and it was completely different. Took 1 hour and 45 minutes to just get a starter and the starter was incomplete missing parts off and unlike the first time we came we were not advised of them being sold out of anything so ordered anyway. We had to ask for a refill on our cokes that took a while to arrive as well, as we had our 4 year old daughter with us we just gave up and paid for what we’d had and left without the rest of the meal. Has left us a little put off and can’t say I’d return anytime soon. We weren’t offered anything as way of apology either. The first time we ate here the waitress was so attentive and nothing was too much trouble for her and all the food arrived as described and on time, she also kept our glasses full and constantly checked we were ok so that time was a 5 star. This time it’s definitely not!

A family friendly restaurant serving good food in a pleasant atmosphere.I would advise to book in advance if eating out during the evening as it does get busy. A play area for the children is at the rear of the restaurant.Plenty of free off road parking.Spacious interior so ideal for customers who are in wheelchairs.Clean toilets friendly staff.Well worth a visit and worthy of my 5* review so don't just take my word for it,try a meal or drinks in here yourself.

Next door for a week ... ate every night at this beefeater only to be charged by premier inn for meals then again charged by beefeater for same meals .... cannot get my money back ... so Just Pay with cash ... or stay and eat somewhere else that will not Rob you of your money

Sunday lunch was not as good as it has been in the past. Apart from not giving me enough meat, the gravy was not a good thick meat gravy but a thin tomato and onion. But then i am a northern girl.

The is really friendly and fortunately we arrived when it was quiet, so had a table in the conservatory available. The menu was really varied. I opted for a rib & chicken combo, my partner had a roast dinner and my daughter had gammon. All were delivered quickly, were well presented and great size portions. Pricing was competitive (£55 for these 3, including drinks) and we left no room for pudding.

Attached to the Premier Inn, and the place to eat food when you stay here. Staff are great and friendly but many people are in this part of the world. Good food hot and serves quickly. Ideal for what we needed after a long drive to the Wirral. Good links to Heswall and other areas of the Wirral and through the tunnels to Liverpool.

We have eaten here in the past and it has been brilliant. This evening was not great. We booked and arrived at 6,30pm nice table, nice atmosphere, but there was something different. Staff seemed to be over run but wasn't that busy, we got our meal at 8pm, and they had forgotten my 8 year old daughters meal! My burger was actually really nice, but over done with charcoal. The chicken my partner had..... was burnt and not even that edible. A huge amount of fries to fill the plate. So she basically had chips for her meal. With 25%off for blue light discount, I didn't feel we needed to complain, but our bill was £55 if it hadn't of had 25%discount, I would of complained. It has unfortunately put us off now. 😬

Visited on Mothers day. Food was average service was good but very long wait for drinks.

No wonder I could get a late booking for mothers day here. Greated with a dirty carpet at the door. A manager who wasn't really bothered when we arrived. Poor service, no white zinfandel wine in the pub, although features in 2 of the 4 drinks on mother's day menu. Staff member who was not old enough to drink , poor service and absolutely no thought or presentation in the food. I was looking for somewhere to take a group of 20-30 people for a night out, as we went here a few years ago and had a good night, so thought why not try it out on mother's day, but won't be going back. Staff asked about allergies but server had no understanding of gluten free and offered vegan instead. Drinks served 1 by 1, with several minutes in-between each drink. I was only one out of 3 to have a starter. No presentation at all. I had, I think it was called popcorn florets. Which is deep fried in batter cauliflower. Literally on a large dinner plate was plonked several pieces of tasteless cauliflower and a small pot of BBQ sauce. No condiments on the table either. Main courses, I had steak. It was well cooked on one side and rare on the other, but I'd asked for medium/well. Another piece of steak was served but a different cut of meat. Served with tomato, 1 mushroom , some rocket, chips but no other vegetables like peas. Then charged 1.99 for a sauce to go with My steak. Oh I had to go to the manager at front of house to complain about my steak, as no one came and asked was everything OK, well not until I had sat down again. Like he had been told to come, but he wasn't our server. Fish was cooked on one side, not very well on other and skin still on. Roast dinner, chicken, all on the bone! We didn't bother staying for coffee or desserts. 2 courses on mother's day was 17.95, so other 2 mains were priced from normal menu. But apparently computer automatically put the cheapest item for the mother's day offer on the bill, and chaeged me off main menu for my steak. It was only a couple of pounds, but I made them change it. The manager ignored me as we walked out, but did acknowledge my mum and her friend.

I would like to give Lisa a 5 star review. My daughter and I arrived at 11.30 today. Lisa immediately informed us that dinner would be served from 12 and offered us a seat in the bar area. She was thorough in explaining all the menus, prices and specials that could benefit my daughter, who is staying at The Premiere next door. I feel enthusiastic staff need to be commended in this industry, as good staff are hard to come by, being in the industry myself. I also feel that the bar staff were negative towards her, Lisa, as we overheard a particular member of staff's defamatory comments about her, within our earshot. Not very professional at all Teamwork makes the dream work. 5***** for Lisa.

Had lunch here today with 2 friends. It was nice to sit in the conservatory area as it's nice and bright. We were served by the waitress Sue. She was so nice, patient and very knowledgeable about the dishes available. Service was excellent as well as the food. Nothing was to much trouble for her. Varied menu and price's to suit everyone. Definitely will call again. Would recommend this place to everyone.

Best customer service anyone could ask for. Michelle needs a raise, she's so polite, hard working and friendly! I am rarely at home as always working away, but she made me feel like I was at home. Probably the best Beefeater experience I've had, if I'm ever in the area ill definately be stopping here again. Thanks Michelle!

Disappointed with the food and service on Christmas Day. Not enough staff. Had to wait long periods and keep chasing for next course. Weren't offered the coffee and mints and decided not to bother asking. Shame, because it's a lovely venue.

Service OK but food very overpriced, had no Guinness so ordered something thing different that was cheaper, but was charged for Gunness, had no sparkling water, had no sirloin steak for the Wellington but still charged extra for replacing it with fillet, which was not good quality, overall given the cost, lack of quality and size of the meals, ie: chicken gougons starter 4 small very overcooked pieces, would not return

We enjoyed a really nice meal today. The food was great. Dad’s steak was perfect. Mum’s Christmas meal was lovely. My mix of starters was nice. Friendly staff. We were appalled however at the behaviour of two very senior diners on the next table. They were tended to by the waitress during their meal, were asked if their meal was okay, they said it was. They then waited until the end of their meal after eating all of their fish lunch and then made a complaint about how the food was cooked. That it was ‘over cooked and raw’ which in itself is a contradiction in terms. It appears that the sane couple came in to this restaurant last week and did exactly the same thing with their mixed grill - making a complaint at the end of their meal. They called in the chef who explained that the manner in which he had cooked the fish was how he cooked it all over the world. The customers still did not relent until they were told that they would not have to pay for their meals. They then put £5 on the table and wished the staff happy new year and left. Their behaviour was absolutely appalling and the staff handled it really gracefully and respectfully. I sincerely hope that this couple are banned from ever entering this establishment again. We felt really sorry for the staff and look forward to our next meals n the Beefeater 👍🏻

The Christmas Dinner was NICE! .it could have been warmer. Staff did well. But NO TABLE DECORATIONS apart from the poltry Cracker .Should have gone to B@M . But we enjoyed our day. Sadly we wouldn't recommend 😕.

Had a good pre Christmas Dinner, food was a lot better than was expected & thoroughly enjoyed our two course Christmas Dinner. Baked cheese wreath starter & Turkey Dinner cooked to perfect, with good sized portions so big we were unable to eat pudding. Overall, it was a good experience. The service was okay, but the pub area we were in was cold. Would recommend.

When we saw a sign advertising for kitchen staff we should have known ..... I ordered a rare fillet steak my partner the king prawns with vegetable rice. First sign of problems - no vegetable rice. My steak came & one end was burnt - we called over a server pointing out I'd ordered rare not well done. The plate was whisked away only to be brought back two minutes later with the information "the kitchen manager says it's rare in the middle." I cut in the middle & yes in the very middle it was rare - I was reluctantly offered a replacement but with little expectation of it being different declined. Was it fillet? Strange shape and texture if it was & most definitely not a rare steak. Not even medium rare. When the bill came the extra charge for vegetable rice was still on it. Altogether a most disappointing experience from what was one of our go to places for a treat.
