The great lunchtime menu has been completely changed and there is virtually nothing to eat other than very expensive dinner choices. The staff are exceptionally lovely as always though. We agreed we would return once the lunchtime menu reverts back.

We had a family member visit and visited three restaurants. This one came third on our list. There was not atmosphere and untrained staff. We were taken straight to our table when we usually go to the bar for a pre-dinner drink. They did not offer to take our coats although we held onto them for a while before putting on the back of our seats. Very differnt to the last time we visited several years ago. The food was good but was quite difficult to find something we really wanted to eat, although my artichoke soup was delicious.

The Glasshouse maintains a very high standard of great food and excellent wine. There is a very inventive aspect to the menus, making choosing what to have a challenge. The asparagus and samphire soup just delicious, and the grilled mackerel equally good. And a range of fine wines, of course. Thank you.

We had a really enjoyable afternoon tea at the Salutation Inn. The afternoon tea was beautifully presented and the service was excellent. We thought the sandwiches and scones were fantastic. The patisserie however were a little underwhelming. It was three quite dense/ nutty tasting cakes and could have benefitted with a bit more variety on the flavour front. Overall it was an extremely relaxing afternoon and very good value for money.

This was my first visit to The Salutation. I took a friend there for a special birthday. We don’t live in Topsham so it was a specially researched plan for a treat. She enjoyed her lunch immensely and so did I. Phew! The limited but sophisticated menu made for easy choices. We both loved our meal. The service was welcoming and attentive in a pleasant room. Being glass, it was very light and bright. The food on the plates were beautifully arranged and it tasted as good as it looked. This is not a cheap place but I think it was worth the money for a special occasion. Thank you.

Food for lunch is acceptable but not what I would expect for the price and the recommendations seen from others. Service is very good.

I had my 60th birthday party here and it was amazing and still very memorable and talked about. The staff then were helpful, friendly. The food and catering was second to none and the amazing cake they made for my birsthday was amazing and delicious. Nothing is ever too much trouble. This time I had my Wedding reception here and once again Amelia and Tom surpassed expectations and the staff once again, very organised, friendly. The food was delicous at £42 per head. The room looked lovely and they accomodated us from 5pm until late. Its was great and once again we will be talking about this for years to come. I cannot recommend this place enough.

A great cooked breakfast including black pudding. One of the best we have had anywhere. Very attentative service always with a smile. Whatever you want just ask!!

The Glasshouse lunch time offering is excellent, the ambiance is delightful, the young staff personable and professional. And the wine selection good too. We chose from the starters, mains and desserts, and were happily pleased with everything.

AMAZING!!!!! Literally from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. It was fabulous. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The glass house is beautifully decorated. Good social distancing. Comfortable tables and chairs with cute cushions. The menu looked great and the food was out of this world. One of the best meals I have ever had and we all said the same. The pistachio crème brûlée was simply delicious. Let’s hope they don’t remove it from the menu before our next visit. Its certainly well worth spending a little extra for a first class experience. Fabulous homemade bread, even the butter came out on a blue slab of glass. It was so clean and inviting with lovely toilets too. I can’t remember praise the place enough. I’m telling everyone just how wonderful it is and I really can’t wait to go back very soon. It’s 100% go to place when near Topsham.

The food was absolutely amazing! We could not fault the food and the service was very warm and friendly. The only fault was that the decor was very dated in the restaurant and the finishes seemed very budget! The ambience did not reflect the incredible food

From entering to leaving the restaurant all Covid rules were adhered to by the staff, and customers were made aware of their expectations. Very friendly service, without being too familiar. Knowledgeable staff and no exessive waiting times. Food was served in satisfactory portions and tasted excellent. Good selection of wines too.

Read the reviews. Booked for my birthday and was really looking forward to tasting their delights. Service was great. Food wasn't so good. Plus, if I'm paying big bucks for my meal I expect more than a paper napkin! Portions were too big for a tasting menu. Some things just didn't work. There was a crab dish with a miso broth. Just not good cold. Then a monkfish dish that was as big as a main and the monkfish tough as old boots. Pudding was a rum baabaa . Not keen on rum, don't like wet sponge. And I'm sure that's not just me. Think about it chef and what people.might not like. Ordered coffee to finish and it was so so bitter. 85 quid, not well spent. Sorry guys, I don't doubt you tried real hard but you can't charge top notch pricing and deliver below average food. Oh, and I'm not just a passive aggressive reviewer. Gave all this feedback at the table too and think it's important for those who choose online to get an accurate representation of what to expect

Had lunch on Saturday- was rather hot-30’C outside and does get hot in the glasshouse. Ordered the seafood platter for two but Enough for three and could push to four small/ light eaters. The scallops was excellent with an amazing sauce in the shell. The mussels were succulent , fish was fresh and tasted amazing, came with three condiment sauces and bread. The Chardonnay was disappointing below average. Waitering was excellent. They moved us as we needed a bigger table for the platter and also had the fab on and directed towards is. Excellent dining experience with amazing food.

We enjoyed immaculate service. The Glasshouse is a pleasant space. The food was good - my pork main was particularly good.

Popped in after shopping (without booking) at 12.15 and were warmly welcomed and given a table.Classy atmosphere and very tastefully done. (Always check the loos if you wish to know the status of a venue. These were immaculate.)Service very friendly and courteous and immediately offered a choice of water - a great plus to our minds

What a superb meal we had in these difficult times. Ingredients excellent. Instructions easy to follow. We made our meal last all day. Certainly a high light in this odd year.

My husband and I decided to escape the house for a bit of grown up time and we were not disappointed! We had a 'Salutation Bubbly Tea' which was presented beautifully, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and it was a perfect relaxing atmosphere after the family Christmas craziness!We could not recommend The Salutation enough.

A last minute decision to have lunch at this attractive venue proved to be a good move. The food was excellent in terms of quality, presentation and value. The service was both friendly and efficient.

El menú de cena del restaurante Glasshouse es amplio y apetitoso. Wow. Just moved from London and hoped to find a nice friendly welcome restaurant and was greeted by an extremely rude front of house. I won’t ever be going back again which is a shame as we would’ve spent quite a lot of money talking friends to visit

Third time we have been here and again it did not disappoint. Staff were excellent as was the food, a light lunch of omelettes and salad, followed by iced coffees. No doubt we will be back again.

Resulta que nuestros amigos sabían sus cosas: disfrutamos de un almuerzo realmente espléndido en GlassHouse, después de haber hecho nuestras selecciones del menú de 3 platos Prix Fixe. Los mejillones meuni re entrante era excelente: muchos mejillones rellenos en una sutil salsa de crema. Ambos optamos por el plato principal de carne de res y sentimos que era uno de los mejores filetes que habíamos probado, los ceps, jus y vegetales coloridos que lo acompañan lo colocan en el soporte excepcional. Spent a v comfortable night in the Glasshouse. Room was beautifully decorated and spotless. Buffet breakfast was v tasty and staff helpful and courteous. My only negative...I really found the carpet in the landing v difficult to look at without feeling sea sick. The coloured stripes were "wavy"and I personally found it too much. Won't stop me returning though if I get the opportunity.

Visited today and had a wonderful time. The place is lovely, we sat on some comfy sofas in the lounge. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The afternoon tea was wonderful, very tasty and very filling. Would highly recommend.

We were fortunate to have a table for an early Sunday lunch without a booking. The staff were accommodating and incredibly attentive. We hadn’t quite expected the price tag for the Sunday roast but ‘in for a penny’ and without the guarantee of finding another place, we embraced the fillet of beef and ordered. Well ... it was absolutely amazing! Sizeable in portion and incredibly good value despite the initial shock of its price tag. A great treat and perfect Sunday roast. Loved it. Thank you.

Three of us had the three-course, set lunch. It was a Friday and the GlassHouse seemed to be full. Lovely mussels in cream, good top rump of beef and excellent sea bream. Delicious desserts and, almost forgot, I enjoyed the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It was all finished off with good coffee. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was friendly and professional. All in all, well worth a trip from Plymouth to celebrate the birthday of our guest who lives more locally. Well done the Salutation.

Al llegar nos sentamos en su salón y nos mostraron el menú. Elegimos tener un gin tonic local.Optamos por su cena de seis platos, junto con el maridaje de vinos. Todos los cursos no eran demasiado grandes, sino un catador de buen tamaño. El filete de ternera como los platos principales era tan tierno. El sumiller explicó cada vino y por qué lo combinó con el curso en particular. El desierto para nosotros era demasiado grande y rico al final de una comida tan grande, aunque sabroso. Terminamos por café y pastelitos en el salón que nos llevamos a casa. Estábamos cómodamente llenos. El sumiller conocía bien sus vinos y era interesante y ciertamente no agresivo. Usualmente disfrutamos el almuerzo del domingo aquí, pero el más reciente fue bastante decepcionante. El menú suele ser bastante corto pero satisfactorio, pero esta vez, aunque más largo, ofreció dos tipos de pescado, dos tipos de carne de res, cerdo y un par de opciones vegetarianas. I went to Uni in Exeter many years ago and lived in Topsham. W returned this year for a holiday and I took my daughters around Topsham. We had an afternoon pit stop for a drink a cake. I had the ice coffee and scone. The ice coffee was really delicious, the best I've had in a while. Plus it came with a bamboo straw so very impressive. The cream scone was also very yummy. My daughter had a brownie and the staff put what she didn't manage into a box to take home.

Although not unpleasant had much better. Some cakes were too large for afternoon tea and not enough tea was served with it. Awkward to eat on lap. Expensive for what was offered.

The dinner was superb for a large group. A special evening in a very special place . The service was very attentive with all needs and requirements catered for. An excellent evening.

Perfect lunch. Sea bream with fennel and spicy ketchup was absolutely delicious followed by the scrummiest salted caramel fondant. One of the best meals I have ever had.

Very much enjoyed our lunch here. Relaxed atmosphere, busy, so best to book. I did think it was a little pricey but it was good, nicely presented and service couldn’t be faulted. You get what you pay for.

This is fabulous. A lovely, sunny restaurant with very friendly service. The food is mouth-watering and well presented. Their pudding selection is quirky and delicious. Parking is a problem so expect a short walk from a public car park. The washrooms are very modern. Highly recommended.

Stopped for a quick coffee when visiting Topsham. The service was welcoming and friendly. The drinks were lovely and exactly what we needed - even using a bamboo straw instead of plastic for the apple juice. What a wonderful ‘secret’!

We had a lovely family lunch here to celebrate a 90th birthday. The food was good but the thing that really made it was the excellent service and attention to detail. The staff could not have been more attentive or helpful.

We came here for a family celebration and we couldn't have chosen a better place. The service was friendly, attentive and efficient and the food was delicious. A duck liver brûlée followed by the smoked haddock risotto was the choice of many and they were both excellent! Highly recommended and we would definitely come here again.

Intersting comida en un ambiente encantador, literalmente en la carretera principal en Topsham. Volveríamos allí de nuevo. Ciertamente no es el más barato alrededor pero el menú era inventivo y no nos pareció pretencioso en lo más mínimo. Las porciones no son grandes, así que no te irás con la sensación de hinchazón, pero tampoco dejamos de querer más comida después del curso de cuatro.

Looked inviting so we popped in for tea and cakes. Were not disappointed. Lovely selection of cakes, sandwiches and scones with jam and cream. Good tea as well. Service excellent. Hotel rooms looked inviting too.

Despite having it in writing that we were a group of 3, the staff had it as a group of 2 on their system and we got rather wedged in as a result. The staff were really nice but by their own admission were stretched.

We live in Exeter but I needed to go to the butcher next door to The Salutation (highly recommended butcher too!) so decided we'd treat ourselves to breakfast.

The Glasshouse serves a great breakfast. Good choices, excellent quality, friendly service. An 8am option would have been a little better for us rather than 8.30.

Simply outstanding. Very pretty and delightfully balanced offering of bread, olives, a tiny salmon fishcake, and beetroot-cured salmon. Plus some very lightly pickled thin slices of carrot. Then a superb salmon, lobster and scallop tortellini, beautifully served with a few broad beans, and a touch of tomato, and samphire. As a main , pan-fried salmon with summer vegetables, pureed potatoes, and saffron sauce. And finally a white chocolate and tonka bean parfait, with local blackberries and a lemon custard doughnut.

We met at the GlassHouse at the Salutation Inn for a farewell cup of tea with a friend. Since it was our last day in Devon we decided to have a "half Afternoon Tea" with scone, clotted cream, jam and piece of cake. The presentation of the cakes was mouth-watering and made deciding difficult. The taste was awesome! Friendly staff and luxurious facilities added to a wonderful experience. Next time in Topsham, we'll certainly be back.

As someone who does not go out for a Sunday lunch very often, but husband had requested for his birthday weekend, I agreed to indulge and boy how pleased and impressed we were! The staff were friendly and attentive and surroundings were super even on such a hot sunny day . I had the pigeon starter which was cooked to perfection and followed by the roast lamb. Most tender lamb with gorgeous tasty vegetables. Superb ! Thanks Ester we were made to feel special and have booked in to the hotel with 6 course tasting menu to indulge for my birthday in a few months time !!

We recently took friends here for lunch and were most impressed both by the service and the delicious food. Each course was beautifully presented and we enjoyed being in the very pleasant and cool surroundings on a particularly hot day.

We visited The Salutation Inn on the 16th July to celebrate my daughter’s graduation. From the moment we walked in we were looked after. We were taken to a comfy lounge for drinks and canapés (lobster bisque was delicious) while we choose from the 4 course or 6 course menu. We were then taken through to the restaurant which was beautiful and relaxing. The chairs were so comfortable! Each course was delicious and beautifully served. Service was outstanding! So attentive without being over the top. Coffee and petit fours in the lounge afterwards was the finishing touch to the best dining experience we have ever had! So glad we chose the Salutation Inn to celebrate such a special day!

This was probably one of the best meals I have had for a long time. Absolutely delicious roast pork and superb creme brûlée. I rate it better tasting then the two restaurants I have been to recently and both had Michelin Stars.

Called in for coffee and cakes on a wet Sunday morning, looks v modern inside, cheerful staff, limited menu but ate an excellent scone and millionaires shortcake with v good coffee, shame nothing toasted available. Would revisit.

Went here while on holiday looked good must say the one waitress made me feel like we were not good enough to be in there her attitude was superior the rest of the staff were lovely the food was good and not badly prices perhaps as I work in retail a bit of customer service wouldn't go amiss from the one woman

Came in for some lunch, very busy but we did get a table as we didn't have a reservation. Service was good just had a lunch and dessert . Had the Duck for lunch and it was excellent then came dessert. You can choose from a big selection had the vanilla and mango cake it was good. Lovely atmosphere didn't feel like we was rushed which is very nice. Couldn't think of a better way to spend a Thursday afternoon.

Visited this lovely cafe/restaurant on Saturday only to be left waiting with no service. I previously rated this as the Salutation which was incorrect. The owner "Tom" contacted me and we resolved the issue of service. It takes real management to tackle issues and I applaud him for doing so. So we are willing to try again. Thank you Tom.

Very delicious afternoon tea and lovely service. Such a pretty place. We have stayed in the hotel in the past and it is lovely with great service.

Impressed by light and space with a few clouds. (You have to go there to see what it means) Service excellent and surroundings good; the loos were marvellous - loved the coat hook in the right place on the back of the door. Food was very tasty but portions were a bit on the small side and rather overpriced. Nevertheless a lovely experience and worth a visit.

All round very pleasant experience on a wet April day. Polite, helpful staff. Really like the decor of the enclosed restaurant area created from the old coaching inn entrance arch. Nice spot in the main High Street though parking is a little way away but the short stroll will mean you work up an appetite and can enjoy the excellent fare.

This place looks great from the outside and even better on the inside. It has a great ambience, drinks are reasonably priced, food a little on the pricey side but good quality. Service was excellent, staff well turned out and friendly. Very busy but the wait was not too long.

Most places where we could have a drink and a cake were shut by four, but the Glasshouse wasn't so it was the obvious choice!

The Glasshouse does a great fixed price lunch which I was looking forward but the day we visited my friend was going out for dinner so I decided to just look at the other very varied offerings on the menu and chose steak open sandwich with horseradish. Good choice! The very generous slices of beef were really tender and cooked as beef should be; nicely pink! My friend had a mushroom omelette; might sound boring but the mushrooms were a mixture of the exotic, rather than the run of the mill, and very tasty. The staff try very hard to tempt you with homemade exotic cakes for desert. They certainly looked original and different but we resisted...this time. The Glass house is actually the inn's courtyard covered in so it's very light and a really pleasant place to meet up for coffee, and cakes, or lunch. I'm looking forward to going next time with a hungry friend as the fixed price lunch gives you very superior cuisine for the price. Really good value.

We’ve been here before and its always been very good, so took the mums there and we were not disappointed firstly the staff are excellent and the food is fantastic few little points hence the 4 and not 5 stars.. had a drink in the lounge prior to ordering and the staff bring out a small tray of nibbles olives, crisps & nuts that you could mistakenly think are completely but they do go on your bill, secondly and it’s just me I do like it when they take your coats that being said we really like it here, the nice thing is it’s all local and you can taste the difference. but it is all about the food/ service/atmosphere which is all spot on, we will definitely be going back.

Just had lunch with my husband and in-laws. All of the food was terrific, especially the scallops and the risotto. We will definitely be revisiting at some point. The cakes also looked amazing but we were too full!

Small, discrete, delicious food, lovely service, a real treat fro lunch with the inventive menu and lovely setting.

Called in for morning coffee, a friendly lovely place to sit, unwind -warm up and fortify yourself before heading to the antique wear house. Will be back for my next visit soon, this being my fith visits, Great lavatories.
