Had a lovely lunch both of us choosing the fresh fish which is well worth the trip. Beautifully cooked with fresh, more interesting vegetables. Thoroughly enjoyable in a perfect setting. Friendly, very attentive staff with food that is all freshly cooked. Will definitely be back.

Lovely visit, very cosy with warm service from all staff. Food was lovely, great steak and specials board items. Lemon cheesecake was gorgeous. Prices on the higher side but the quality of the food does reflect the price. Ample portions too. The outside would be brilliant in warmer weather.

We were once again in the area and gad 2 dinners and 1 lunch at the fabulous glasshouse. First thing to mention is the fantastic welcome you receive here from Alison and her team. We were greeted and treated like old friends. The food, as per my previous review, was simply divine. First night I had delicious salt and pepper squid, followed by duck in black cherry sauce, then home made banoffee pie. Hubby had a huge and delicious goats cheese salad with walnuts and apricots, then wonderful pork (cooked 2 ways). He finished with ice cream. Everything was cooked to perfection. We popped in for a ploughmans the following lunchtime, while out walking. It was absolutely magnificent (see the pictures). Best I have ever had. It included, beetroot, apple, grapes, onion, lettuce, toms, celery, cucumber, cheese (ham in my case), bread, pickle. Beautifully presented and all ingredients were of excellent quality. I couldn't resist some more of the bannoffi pie!!! Finally dinner on day 3, hubby went for the same as day one as he enjoyed it so much. I had scallops in a cream and brandy sauce, with samphire. Cooked to perfection. I then had sticky BBQ ribs that came with chips, salad and coleslaw. All really yummy. Again (I know.... but it was just so 😋 yummy) I had more of the banoffee pie! Fabulous staff, fantastic food of the highest quality, big portions, beautifully cooked and to top it all, really reasonable priced. What's not to love? Have already booked for when we are next in the Forest in July. Highly recommend.

Cannot fault the Glasshouse one bit. The Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was incredible, absolutely 10/10. The prices were very reasonable as well, for the standard of food we were impressed that they have managed to keep their prices at a good level. The menu choices were also very good, considering we went on a Sunday we expected the usual Sunday Lunch choices but it was nice to have a refresing Sunday menu! We can't wait to return and try the rest of the menu!

I used to frequently go to the glasshouse with family many years ago, this was our first time visiting since new ownership and have to say it was fantastic! Still the cozy rustic feel I remember but the food is now even better. My partner had the game pie and I had the seafood bouillabaisse, both were cooked perfectly.

The food was delicious, fresh tasting, large portions and all staff were friendly , helpful & professional. I had the mussels in garlic , onion & cream to start, the mussels were fresh and very large in size, another starter was scallops in garlic butter served in their shells (4 of them) The mains were duck breast with a black cherry sauce, I had the duo of pork (if you look at the menu you will see the whole dishes. ) Both were A+++.

Wow what can I say. Stayed in one of the wonderful well equipped lodges behind this lovely pub. I was here for a leisurely holiday with my elderly mother. The lodges are in a perfect setting and we saw lots of wildlife including woodpeckers, squirrels, deer and lots of other birds. So peaceful and quiet just what we wanted. We ate at the pub on the evenings it was open. The welcome was second to none, warm and friendly, nothing too much trouble. The choice of food, very varied with plenty of fresh fish which was much to our liking. The portions were very generous. The quality of the food which is freshly cooked, was amazing and well worth waiting for. We will definitely be back.

Met some friends who had chosen this place for lunch. WOW! It was one of the best lunches we have ever had!! Unfortunately my first choice of chicken I couldn’t have (the butcher hadn’t delivered yet) so I plumped for the lamb chops - maybe one time I was glad my first choice wasn’t available!!! They were delicious, everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their meals too, gammon, crab salad & bream - all presented beautifully and tasted amazing! Certainly be back!!

Simply wonderful meal at the Glasshouse last night. I had scallops to start that were cooked to perfection. Followed that with duck in cherry sauce, it was again perfectly cooked and the sauce was absolutely delicious. The dauphanise potatoe was creamy and just the right amount of garlic. Ended the evening with plum and apricot crumble. The plums were slightly tart which was wonderful. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his goats cheese starter and struggling to eat all of his pork cooked 2 ways as it was huge. He managed it though (ha ha) and even had room for some chocolate ice cream. The staff were friendly and attentive and the owner Alison is just lovely and made us feel so welcome. There is a really nice atmosphere here and the food is spectacular. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

We visited for lunch as a group of 4 women on a weekend away. It’s a tough time for pubs at the moment (I work in one) and it was great to support this one. Our meals were all piping hot and delicious. I had beef lasagne, with garlic bread and salad, and it was a whopper portion. The landlord was ever so nice and explained that after 23 years he and his wife are selling up to retire. I hope that whoever takes this place on maintains the wonderful character and charm it holds and continues to do good food. I will be back in the area next summer and will definitely go back. Would just like to say, having spent our afternoon and then evening at the Glasshouse, that Steve and Gill were two of the most hospitable people we've come across.Homemade lasagne was top notch, second only to Steve's attentiveness and willing to make us as comfortable as possible.Butcombe bitter was kept excellently. Great range of reasonably priced gins (Roku cheaper than Hendricks!).Cant imagine we'll be in the area again as it's quite a way off the beaten path, but hope this review encourages others to venture in that direction. Finally; we were staying a good 30 mins walk away. I had roast turkey with pigs in blankets and they kindly gave me a Yorkshire pudding with mine because I had food envy of the boyfriend having beef. Similarly, they kindly let him have a pig in a blanket with his lunch. Bar man was friendly and the waitresses were all lovely and attentive. The food came out quickly but this didn't affect the quality of the food in any way. When this was mentioned to the owner he was very blunt and demanded to his staff to seat us on a smaller table! Booked table of 18, well in advance, and they basically couldn't cope. Stroppy, stressy bar man just made us feel like we were a hindrance. Asked us to order and pay individually and up front because they would be really busy later and wouldn't have time to wait for us to 'faff about' with sorting out bill ( i.e. busy with regulars? So new people in big larger parties are not valued customers too?) So we complied, trapseing up to bar in little gangs to politely order our dinners. Then they brought our food at completely different times - our mates had finished before we even got ours. But worse... some of my family ordered game pie. Pie. So widwly accepted a filling inside a pastry case, yes? Oh no, not at the Glass House. Apparently, you should be so delighted that they deign to allow you in, that a stew should've suffice. Small, and unimprotant, non-local, not big-spender types shouldn't expect to have a pastry lid! Upstarts!

Arrived at 2.45pm for drink after a walk. Lovely day, with dog and sat in the garden. Pleasant pub in a great location. Checked notice board that said food served till 3pm. Time for a drink we thought and purchased our drinks without comment or time restriction. At 3.10 publican arrived and asked if he could take empty glasses which were clearly still half full. He said in rather stern manner that pub closes at 3pm.......not according to notice board . After further 10mins we tried to return glasses to bar but all locked up. Not very friendly. Shame as super from the outside. BTW...no dogs or children inside.....missed opportunity.

Very picturesque setting and lovely old Quirky pub. On arrival the staff seemed friendly but it didn't last sadly. My meal was below par for the price but hubby's was much better.

We booked this holiday cabin through Sykes holiday cottages but I think you can book direct with the Glasshouse Inn who own & run the three lodges just behind the pub. Do not be put off by the close proximity to the pub as the lodges are in a sheltered hollow below it and you would not know it was there. The pub is excellent with a good selection of fresh food and many varieties of beer. And joy of joys they do not allow children under 14 into the bar, so it does not become a branch of Happy Eater or McDonalds and you can eat in peace without screaming children and being surround by huge buggies.

I recently visited The Glasshouse for the first time in 20 years. The pub has changed significantly but I'm happy to say it still has the charm I remember. I didn't eat here but I'm reliably informed the food is excellent. If someone from abroad wanted to experience a great English country inn they need look no further than The Glasshouse.

We were recommended the Glass House, whilst staying in the area, and I'm so glad we took the advice! The owners are absolutely lovely, and so keen to make sure that you enjoy your meal. They clearly love what they do, and it really shows in the way that you're treated here.

Bloody brilliant - will absolutely be back for more. Amazing food (portions were very generous!), service was 10/10 and pub itself was full of character! We got to eat in the conservatory which was a really lovely experience. Steve was brill! Thank you so much. :)

Picture postcard setting, very average food and that's about it. A very early 70's feel about it, probably the last time it was cleaned as well. Rude publican, helpful staff, needs a good shake up, then it could be amazing. Actually, what it needs is new ownership.

My friends invited me to join them. The waitress was helpful and patient, our order was about 10 to 15 minutes, which was good as we were a party of 6 diners.

We visited friends in Ross and they took us here, lovely pub. Menu was not massive but good choice I went for the chilli chicken on the special boards at 14.00 but I changed my mind when I asked and it was not chicken breast but thigh which I don’t like I would have thought for 14.00 it would’ve been breast. I had the satay which was lovely our friends had steak which they said was nice and a large cod which was described by my husband as light and fully fresh fish. Reasonable on the prices and drink and a lovely location. Worth a visit.

Having been told of this place I expected more. We went at a lunch time on a Saturday, I had a sandwich my wife a basket meal, why do they feel the need to put a napkin in the bottom of the basket which just soaks up any sauce or dressing you put on your food, this is not the 1970s.

We had a fabulous family meal at The Bell on Saturday evening and very reasonably priced. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was beautiful (especially the fish pie, which was to die for) Today, The Bell did us proud again when they provided a wonderful after funeral buffet for us at a very reasonable price. The selection of fresh sandwiches and home made cakes was fabulous plus sausage rolls, samosas, pork pies, sausages, dips, salads, crisps, nuts etc etc. Thank you both for looking after us all so well . We will see you again soon. Xx

Recommended by the local Dean's Wood campsite with a caveat of it being 'rustic', we enjoyed a very tasty excellent value for money meal and drinks. Our dogs were welcome, and the Land Lady was lovely. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for all weather. With a small play area available for children. Watch out for the local sheep wandering the roads and verges!

The mountain biking is fantastic. But Park at PedalBike and support the trails.

Dont bother wasting your money.!! If you are not in a hurry, want to help yourself to condiments and ask for service, and get some dodgy food, go for it! Really disappointing and didn't even offer a refund!
