As the season narrows, it’s appropriate to say thank you before they have their very well deserved break in January & February. I have been a regular in the restaurant all summer and can’t recommend higher than 5 stars, or I would. Margaret and her team offer the warmest of welcomes, the most special part of that is the authenticity behind it. She has picked the most customer centric team who greet you with a smile, serve fantastic food and represent the castle to the highest possible standard. Thank you and I look forward to next year. Enjoy your time off. The Apple Crumble deserves a very special mention :) Garry x

We arrived mid-afternoon and decided to go to the restaurant first as it would soon close. The restaurant was clean and the staff friendly and welcoming. There was a good selection of hot and cold food - we chose to have quiche and salad followed by a clotted cream scone. The food was delicious and the atmosphere pleasant and unhurried, despite being almost closing time.

Pastry parcel of venison, black pepper and cranberry, served with a jug of thyme gravy. I am all for trying something different wherever we go. This ticked that box. I normally sidestep something with so much pastry, but this was different. On reflection I would sidestep it next time because of the pastry. But then it must be said the jug of gravy went a long way to redeeming it. Maybe on a return visit the jug could tempt me to a second opinion. Inside - the meat was certainly there. No mistaking a significant venison content. For me the pepper overwhelmed my taste buds. Anything else in the Bridie was irrelevant. Cranberry ? I never tasted any, and when pushed by my wife, we opened the last third, and couldn’t see any either. My wife enjoyed the soup of the day.

I booked this for Mothers Day. 3 course set menu for 3. We have been twice before for this and the food was excellent. However, we were sadly disappointed yesterday. Firstly, the kitchen restaurant itself was so cold. We stood for some time waiting to be attended too. We predicted we would be given the table closest to the door and we were correct..this is the second time we've had to request to move tables because its freezing. Most people were eating their meals with their coats on. It seems that a couple of large parties of tourists arrived around the same time we did and the restaurant filled up very quickly. There seemed to be too little staff for the amount of customers. They are all very pleasant but they looked rushed off their feet. The booking was made several weeks in advance for a reasonable 1:30 lunch time and yet not all the menu choices were available. The lentil broth was tasteless. Actually the worst I think I've ever had sadly. But we were so cold we ate it for warmth! My Mum had a prawn salad. Nice prawns but the dressing was very minimal. Second course was roast beef dinner. Tasty enough with a nice gravy but the beef was overcooked and tough as were the yorkshire puddings. The veg was again-tasteless. The best bit was pudding. The log burner went off half way through and the poor staff had no time to re-fill it so the room just grew colder and colder. Its such a beautiful setting. The drive up to the castle is so nice. In summer its stunning. But I'm afraid to say we won't be rushing back for food any time soon.

I’d give this place a 1 star if it was not for the fact that the coffee and scone were good. However the attitude of the young man, short dark hair and glasses, to a foreign person was shameful. I think the person was German. He was doing his best to order food and drink. But the man behind the counter gave him no time, muttered and mumbled, and basically did nothing to help this person out in understanding what was being said. A shocking reflection in how we, in this country, can sometimes treat our visitors. I did try to chat cleanly to the visitor myself, hoping that this might help. In other words interpret the staff members mumbles.

The typical Scottish conundrum. I have recently visited a number of good owner run eating places in Scotland. All worth 5*. So what do you do when you find somewhere better ? For me the short answer would be 6 stars. So often, especially north of the Antonine Wall, one tends to find owner run eating places as being 5*. Then you come across somewhere better. Hence the Scottish Conundrum. First we did our typical ‘Buy a guide book’, then go for a coffee to read it before going round the property. It was just as it should be. Ok. A tour of the Castle, then lunch. I am a sucker for something local. So went for the Glamis Birdie. A shortcrust pastry parcel of venison, black paper and cranberry, with thyme gravy. Delicious. Actually the gravy was in a small handle less jug, which was too hot to hold. Nevertheless really enjoyable. My wife had a courgette soup. Again very tasty. In passing I would also say the staff were great, and the venue interesting.

Limited menu which needs a couple more vegetarian options. No platters available on the day we visited. We chose a burger for £10, which was quite pleasant but served with 5 potato wedge ‘chips’ which needed a little longer cooking... and my soup - which I’ve moaned about in my main review - was lacking in flavour, could have been thicker and most definitely could have been twice the size (and even then probably wouldn’t have justified the £7 price tag!). My husband and I recently visited Glamis Castle when holidaying in Scotland, we found the tour of the house very good and informative, but we were very disappointed with our lunch. I had soup and bread price £5 + and when it arrived it was thin and watery and with it half a slice of cheap sliced bread. Lessons could be learned from Alnwick Castle and places in York probably similar prices but delicious soup and large cheese scones rather than bread. Even the place we ate in in Moffat served delicious soup with a slice and a half of good chunky bread and was a £1 cheaper. Also my husband asked for a slice of coffee cake and the girl brought something completely different she then went off brought back another slice of cake not coffee cake but by this time he had lost the will to live so accepted it. Other visitors were waiting half an hour or more for food ordered. I certainly will not be recommending anyone to eat in the Glamis Castle café.

Portions were also tiny - one sprig of broccoli. Was followed by cakes and scones which were nice but again, definitely not 5* as advertised. The scones weren't even warm as you'd usually get with high tea. Service was good and the setting was nice, albeit cold. But ultimately the food let it down. Having visited the castle before and having enjoyed it, we decided to visit the grounds and gardens with our toddler. Enjoyed the walk around the garden and the adventure playground. However, we arrived just before 12 (as we planned) so we could get some food after quite a long journey. We went to the restaurant - there was nothing to suggest this could be a problem. We had just settled our son in a high chair when we were told there was a function on so we could only sit at one table - right in the middle of the room and so also in the middle of whatever function was coming. We were offered the takeaway facilities in the hub which was not quite what we were looking for! We wanted to sit inside and enjoy our lunch so moved tables. We were not offered any help or any menus and all the staff quickly disappeared to sort out the function. Eventually, we went to the hub where there were only 3 sandwiches (all the same) available. The staff in there were much more helpful and offered to get our son a sandwich made. No high chair available and all in all a pretty poor experience. Thank you to the lovely staff in the hub for rescuing us and getting my son something he could actually eat. But we were made to feel most unwelcome in the restaurant as clearly only the function was good enough despite no notices to suggest this. Ruined what was otherwise a good visit.

Visited restaurant and grounds as part of my daughters birthday. Had pre booked afternoon tea for 3. We were seated quickly and food arrived promptly. Super selection of cakes, sandwiches and scones washed down nicely with a bottle of fizz. Lots of food left over which the staff kindly boxed for us. Staff were very attentive. Would definitely

A lot of wasps and a long queue but the sandwiches were good. I would suggest to add some waiters and better train them for the summer extra visitors.

Having had a fantastic, entertaining tour of the castle we finished at kitchens which were conveniently the tearooms. With about 6 people in the queue in front of us we decided to stay and have tea and cake. My first issue was how slow it took to be served, (30 minutes). There was no shortage of staff but only one person on the till taking orders, preparing hot drinks and taking payment, hence the length of time it took to be served. My second issue was with the cakes. On the chalkboard it advertised cakes but in the display cabinet apart from millionaires shortbread & scones the only cake was a vegan poppy seed one. I asked if they had any other cakes and was shown behind the counter 2 gorgeous sandwich cakes but was told that they were not for sale yet until the cake in the display cabinet had gone.I explained that i was not vegan and didn't like poppy seed cake so could we please have 4 slices of the other cake. I was told "no", not until the other cake in the display cabinet had gone. Having made the point that if we had the vegan cake what would be served to a vegan should they come into the tearoom the girl just shrugged and said again she could not sell me the other cake.

£1.65 for a small plastic a bottle of water, come on...!!! As the title said, the caf is totally overpriced for very average good. Disappointing to say the least.

It’s quite pricey for what you get – a baked potato and soft drink is £8.80, but unless you’ve bought a picnic, you’re a bit stuck for lunch. The restaurant has refectory tables for tour groups plus individual tables for smaller parties. There are also some picnic style tables outside. If you just fancy a drink, pre-packaged sandwich or ice cream, you can buy that at the hub in the courtyard.

We had coffee and scones at the castle restaurant in late June 2018. After touring Scotland’s restaurants for three weeks sampling scones at a dozen restaurants, I can honestly state that Glamis scones were among the very best: moist, flavorful, decent size and kept us energized while walking the grounds.

Most staff very young and inexperienced. Food is average and overpriced. I had a full cup of steaming coffee on my table and a young lady waitress tried to take it away, assuming I was finished with it. Just very young and inexperienced staff, presumably employed so they can be paid little.

After completing our guided tour of the castle we stopped off for a cold drink & slice of cake. We had 4 cans of juice, 2 plain scones with butter & jam, a slice of Victoria sponge & a lemon muffin, which I found expensive at £23. It was disappointing to say the least, all the cakes were so dry they were almost inedible, the 2 scones were only just edible due to the butter & jam but the other 2 cakes were stale it was busy with a large table of American/Canadian tourists so it may have just been a bad time but it was a very expensive mistake which disappointed on an otherwise fabulous day out.

We were on Itison deal for the castle visit&tour; and a 2- course lunch for two. Taking into account the modest price we paid, I expected a very light lunch and was ready to order extra so that we could have a proper meal. We were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes, the quality of food was also great, same with the choice. I had cullen skink soup and a pheasant burger and my husband went for chicken liver parfait and stewed beef (that was absolutely huge in size ad very tender!), he also additionally ordered toffee pudding as a desert - everything tasted great! If you want something less filling you can opt for a sandwich/wrap as your main.

Avant de visiter le château, agréable surprise. Restaurant touristique mais pas d’arnaque : une cuisine généreuse, produits frais et bien préparés. Super prix vu le cadre (moins de 8£ le plat)

We phoned in advance and booked a table. When we arrived we found a table reserved for us. The waitress was very cheerful and pleasant and clearly explained the itison menu offer. We both had the Cullen Skink which was excellent (and very filling), followed by the Pheasant burger which neither of us could finish. I can find no fault with the food or service. I would not hesitate to return or recommend a visit to Glamis Castle or restaurant.

We had a lovely Itison lunch here three years ago, and were really looking forward to returning despite an hour + drive. We booked on line as requested, but on arrival no-one greeted us and no tables were reserved. We sat ourselves, and after 10 minutes of no-one approaching us, I found a waitress who brought us the Itison menu.

Attached to the Forfar Golf Driving Range, this cafe/restaurant is always busy and, for some reason, despite it being carpeted, is usually quite noisy! The menu is fairly standard with filled rolls, sandwiches, paninis, soup, baked potatoes etc. Prices are reasonable and the service is usually very good. It is light and airy due to the large windows at one end. I like it in part, as I can see the rural house I grew up in from it in the distance.

Gorgeous battered chicken fillets and a fresh fillet of fish. The service was superb and the quality of the food was second to none. We even managed to get a portion of scraps. Best fish and chips we’ve both had in a long time and reasonably priced in comparison to Aberdeen.

I was served by a very rude young man named ryanm99, he was very immature and at one point stood on one of the tables and done something he called “cube mouth”, the food was also awful and gave me the skitters.
