Attached to the Forfar Golf Driving Range, this cafe/restaurant is always busy and, for some reason, despite it being carpeted, is usually quite noisy! The menu is fairly standard with filled rolls, sandwiches, paninis, soup, baked potatoes etc. Prices are reasonable and the service is usually very good. It is light and airy due to the large windows at one end. I like it in part, as I can see the rural house I grew up in from it in the distance.

When we arrived it was not busy and we were told to just choose a table. Having looked at the menu we waited to have our order taken. We, then, watched as four other tables, all having arrived after us, had their orders taken. After waiting almost 20 minutes and no-one approaching us, we got up and walked out. The staff just stood and watched us leave. We had been looking forward to our meal as have been frequent customers but will now seriously think about going elsewhere. Very disappointing.

Another visit to this haven of fine food. Soup was excellent, advertised as Pea & Ham , but I have my doubts...but very good all the same. Chicken mayo texture was just perfect, chicken wasn't over taken by the taste of Mayo. A traditional Victoria sponge to finish. All in all a fine selection, and the waitress was thrilled that her soup was making it onto my soup blog.

Great food but service poor. We ordered food then sat and sat waiting for someone to clear our plates, 20 mins, and order coffee and cakes. They would walk past us with empty trays after serving other people and just look at us as if we were invisible. I've done this kind of work and it was drummed into me to never return to the kitchen empty handed. They really need to get more organised with clearing tables and taking orders, there were 4 ladies serving so not short of staff. Shame as I know of others that have said the same and have been put off going back.

Love coming here - great food & service - well during the week that is !!! Saturday was a disaster- staff running about like headless chickens. No structure to tables it was a hit or a miss who got served first !! 20 min wait for order to be taken & in that time 3 tables that came in after us got served & their food before we did !! In the end we went up to order food - another 25 min wait on food ! Didn’t stay for desert - would of been there all afternoon!!

The reason for such a low review. Myself and my sister went along for a cuppy and a scone. We waited a few minutes to be shown to our table, which was fine. The girl took us to our table and gave it a wipe down, which we were happy about. We went to a table at the back, and we thought oh they will be over in a few minutes for our order. So another two couples came in after us, and low an d behold they were both getting there orders taken before us, which we seen as not right at all. The couple behind us I heard commenting on how long they had waited, and was told 30 minutes, and not one person took there order. She eventually had to go to the counter to order her meal, and they were not happy either. When one of the customers that came in after us started to get served before us, my sister shouted excuse me, but we were here before them, and the girl looked at us not knowing what to do. This was atrocious service, in a place I’ve been to many times before. It just seemed the left hand had no idea what the right hand was doing. We finally got served, and there was then a lot of running around been done. So we will not be returning back there again, and will be telling my friends and family too about the service we received. There was no apology for what happened at all to us, which I would have expected at least. So please don’t use an excuse of shortage of staff, because from what I could see there was not, the two back tables were left and forgotten about.

Lentil & Bacon soup was a case of ....find the bacon. A distinct lack of pig was disappointing. Soup was decent enough in taste & the Cheese & Tuna sandwich was filling and tasty enough. Looked like the place was back to full capacity , resulting in a very noisy atmosphere. Which led to shouting to be heard.

Service was more focused in meeting the needs of the elderly. The staff were professional but abrupt and lacked communication skills. It would also be helpful if there was clean instructions on how to get first aid or help when there is an emergency. Also we arrived as a table of 5 with 2 adults and 3 kids Kids went to play golf and we were asked to move from a table big enough for 4 to a table for 2 people as they were expecting to get busy and would need the bigger table

After languishing long in lockdown, my wife and I were glad to don our masks, leaving striped jerseys behind, but armed with personal hand sanitizer, and to venture forth into the new world of service behind the veil during the Corona Virus Pandemic, to resume eating out ... if only in a pleasant but modest manner. As ever, lunch at the Golf Range, on the outskirts of Forfar, was well and truly up to the mark. Less tables and chairs there this time, less people than before the crisis, much more preparation and planning by the ever-efficient management and the usual humbling hospitality from the staff all combined to make our first foray into eating out for several months an event to savour. I always have the soup, and their Turkey Broth did the trick. My lady had something she called a 'Wrap followed by Coffee and the best looking in-house Strawberry Tart ever. And as ever, as we followed the floor-marked trail to exit whence we had not entered, we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch treat there. Oh, if only everyone might abide by the rules as did these people, should we all soon defeat this troubling medical problem.

Delighted to see the new extended outdoor seating area which makes the most of the stunning views. The welcome was as warm and friendly as always, and everything as clean as usual. Nice to see the antibacterial spray available for using in the toilets if you want to use it, but as always the place was spotless. There's now a different exit to the entrance which is good. The food was as fantastic as it always is, in fact I think the scone was better than before, but that might of been because I really missed them! The cooked breakfast was perfect, good quality ingredients well cooked and presented perfectly. I love the coffee here, it's always just the right strength for me. Lovely to see them open again and looking forward to another visit.

An afternoon spare, this past Tuesday. In order to satisfy my wife's request, we made for the Golf Range just outside the northern boundries of Forfar. I have reviewed this excellent and popular local attraction before and have always found it busy but very well organised with friendly and efficient staffing levels ... just about right. As for the food, I have never had cause to complain, quite the opposite. My wife varies her intake with glee and raves about all she tries out ... I invariably have the soup. Not because I'm a spare eater, I hasten to add ... It's the quality and presentation of the in-house soup selections that are the backbone of any operation like this ... and today, the Scotch Broth was indicative of their superiority over others in a very competitive market.Needless to say, everything else follows with good grace and polish. She, who must be obeyed, left with a carry-out (for later consumption, said she) consisting of the most tempting in-house-produced Strawberry Tart

Went for coffee with an old school friend whom I had not seen for a while. We both had coffee and lovely rock buns. After we had finished we decided to have another coffee and asked the young assistant if we could get more. She went away and after waiting for about 15 minutes, and a number of other people being served, we realised she must have forgot about us so we got her attention and asked again for our coffees, much to her obvious disgust at being asked, she then turned around and saidwhat sounded like “F**k. If that is her attitude then she is not much of an asset to a lovely cafe. Disappointed to say the least.

Had a spot of lunch at the Driving Range just outside Forfar today with my wife. We weren't very hungry and really wanted a nice soup or something of that order ... when we turned off the speedy main road into their ramp-like drive, no one was firing golf balls into the grassy green yonder, though it was a warm and sunny May afternoon, everybody was inside. In fact, though there's plenty room, we sat at the only available table and ordered soup with bread for two. The one I had was truly a great choice ... Cooked from scratch on the premises, leek and potato, ample fresh bread and butter, a testimony to the soup-maker's art. My wife, no slouch in the kitchen herself, was suitably impressed by her own choice, the tomatoes with red pepper soup, again, the business. And, yet again, it must be emphasised that this first-class business seems to be marvellously managed and very well staffed for no one seemed inadequately served.

Having had a late breakfast myself, I happily agreed to accompany my good lady to one of her favoured watering holes in Forfar... the Cafe at the Golf Range, just to the north of town. She was having the Broccoli and Stilton Soup which comes with lovely crusty bread and real butter spread thereupon. Not being a cheese eater, I declined a taste of what she was having ... but I could certainly smell it and, of course, I could also observe the sheer obvious pleasure with which she tackled her particular penchant for the dish she'd chosen.Once again, this place came up trumps. Not only was the fare served there first class, the friendliness of the staff matched it... as also did the cleanliness, promptness and value-for-money price in this fine place step right up to the mark.

Visited today with my daughter for lunch...very busy when we arrived but we decided to wait it out...glad we did!! A very friendly waitress came over and told us it shouldn't be too long and that we could place our order while waiting on a table...got a table as soon as we ordered!! On first glance at the menu it does seem a bit overpriced for what it is but when the food arrived it was very tasty and well presented...we both thoroughly enjoyed it...would visit again!!!

The smell of home cooking in here was amazing, maybe partly due to the scones just having come out of the oven. There was quite a choice with fruit or plain scones, lots of different cakes and all home made or a good sixed breakfast range. As it was early I opted for breakfast but nearly went for the delicious smelling soup. The breakfast was excellent, really good quality ingredients and well cooked. When I was ordering they happily swapped the sausages for me letting me choose what to replace them with. Even the toast that accompanied it was delicious, warm and made with a really good quality brown bread. The coffee was in a decent sized cup and was piping hot. A nice touch was that although you order at the counter they take the food to your table.

Have been a very frequent customer since the cafe opened , always consistently good,What a change on recent visit.Sloppy service ! wrong bread should have said but decided it was not important Wish I had ,very poor white bread and very cheap wet ham even in the half sandwich could not eat it all,Tasteless! Long wait for coffees and cake and indifferent response. cake good as usual. What a shame as we liked to go there!

We have visited the Golf Range restaurant on many occasions and have never been disappointed. Quiet or bust the staff are welcoming and attentive, the food is excellent and views over the golf range entertaining especially when golfers are trying too hard.Good value, an excellent choice of food and drinks and handy for Forfar shopping and just off the motorway.

This is a nice place to drop in by for a nibble - does what it says on the can. Pleasant staff and good ambience. The only real issue was that the coffee was terribly thin... all the more disappointing as we asked for it to be strong.

Popular with locals and cycling groups - you can park easily and read the newspapers provided over a tasty snack or lunch.

Just popped in for a quick snack at lunch time. Good varied menu and plenty on the board as well. We both had the half size soup and sandwich combo which was tasty and enough for a quick snack. Had to go to the counter to be served whilst 3 girls stood chatting in the kitchen area but the lady that took our order was very pleasant. They need to sort out customer service so you feel welcome and the staff are more attentive to customers.Price was alright but no one asked us if everything was satisfactory or if we wanted anything else.

Nipped in for a quick lunch. Which was just your average food with a pretty hefty price tag. While having our lunch we noticed the cakes getting refilled with the staffs bare hands, the same bare hands which was cleaning tables and collecting money which I don't think is the most hygienic.

We haven't been to the driving range for a while because of poor service in the past, and have to say things haven't really improved. We had pepper and tomato soup that resembled one of those packet cup soup efforts and the service from one member of staff was very poor, she almost threw the plates on the table before ordering us to 'enjoy'. The other member of staff was at least friendly, but sadly let down by her colleague. They have tried to cram far too many tables in which makes it almost impossible to get from your table to the order counter without squeezing past other customers tables. Also, the dresser they have with crafts for sale is immediately next to a table so you are forced to look over customers as they eat, or just not bother as most people do. I am disappointed that there has been little in the way of improvement at the range because my wife and I used to use the range and the coffee shop, now we go elsewhere. Sad.

Nice food, not the cheapest. One member of staff was very rude and obviously doesn't understand the concept of customer service. The rest were great but it was enough to sour the experience.

I travel a lot - I eat a lot - I LIKE VALUE FOR MONEY - I was embarrassed to say I have spent £30 for lunch for 4 adults and 1 child - 2 coffees (the cup size........) 2 teas, 1 boxed juice, 2 x 1/2 soup and sandwich - REALLY , 3 mouthfuls of soup and 2 quarter of sandwiches for £4.80 each, my wife looked at me with disbelief. Full size soup with toastie - wow and 2 bacon rolls - NO Effort in presentation NO sides i.e. salad, coleslaw etc.Funny too when I got home and mentioned it to my neighbour he smiled and laughed, thats ok he said, we won't EVER go back there either.WELL neither will IGood luck to any business who can keep getting away with this.......................rubbish value

I was served by a very rude young man named ryanm99, he was very immature and at one point stood on one of the tables and done something he called “cube mouth”, the food was also awful and gave me the skitters.

Gorgeous battered chicken fillets and a fresh fillet of fish. The service was superb and the quality of the food was second to none. We even managed to get a portion of scraps. Best fish and chips we’ve both had in a long time and reasonably priced in comparison to Aberdeen.

We both had a very pleasant full breakfast on 29/10/24 in Purdy’s & were served by two ladies who were very welcoming. Good value. Good vibe. We will definitely go back Thank you!
