Giovannis New York St Cafe in Manchester

Me and my brother went for breakfast for the last day in Manchester. We had two English breakfast and I had homemade squeezed oranges. The service was very helpful and nice. Definitely come again.

Good sandwich… if you have an hour to wait for it.

Please save your money and don’t waste it here. Food is below average, over priced and was very quiet for a weekend morning in a busy location which should of been the first red flag, The tables and cutlery were dirty and the staff were extremely rude and inexperienced with customers, manager behaved as they just did not care to be there and very poor customer service.

Calling it a greasy spoon doesn’t do it justice. Lovely staff and a great full English at reasonable prices. Well done

I went to this cafe for years and was always a great lunch spot. The menu has changed with many staples removed. The prices have increased dramatically and the new staff don’t seem to know what they are doing. I got a vegan crunch wrap that was literally swimming on the plate in liquid and tasted gross. Had they dropped it in the sink ? New lunch spot required :/ What a shame!

I often grab food from here as my office is nearby. The food is really nice and fresh, and the staff are really friendly

DAYLIGHT ROBBERY! £8.50 it cost me for a ham salad barm!!!!!!!! No drink, just asked for egg on the sandwich and was charged an extra pound! I’m genuinely lost for words at the price. £3.50 at Shirley’s which is a 10 minute walk away. Was nice tho

The atmosphere of the cafe is relaxed and comfortable, the food tastes ok, and the kids breakfast portion is not too small, so it is also suitable for customers with small appetites. The coffee feels rather weak.

The selection for food here is outstanding! Don't be fooled by the exterior as it's down a side street and a bit out of the way, because the food is amazing! The prices are very reasonable and everything is cooked fresh and you can definitely taste it!

Refreshing to see a great place open early in town. Not many choices open at 7am. Delicious food and so much for your money. Friendly team. Highly recommend the veggie breakfast.

felt more like a clinical atmosphere aimed at the early morning office worker who didn't have time to eat before leaving home. Just somewhere to grab a breakfast but they do have a more extensive menu. Fast and efficient service,friendly staff. Full english breakfast no complaints. It was a Saturday at 10AM so maybe its much more busy on weekdays. The fact we 3 were the only people eating is not their fault. I thought the staff were attentive & friendly. I'd reccomend it. Nice & clean.

Friendly, efficient, hygienic and reasonably priced. Good range of snacks (panini's, toasties, etc) and some nice fry ups for the morning after. Quality coffee to boot, obv.

One of the best cafe’s in Manchester food is 10/10, staff are really friendly and always have a smile on there face couldn’t ask for a better service, would definitely recommend!!!

For the past 4 years (or more) I have visited Giovannis cafe on an almost weekly basis, during my lunch break. I have constantly praised and recommended this cafe to my colleagues, many of whom have subsequently become customers. Several months ago the cafe had a mini-refurbishment and at the same time the prices were increased. Unfortunately, since this time the service has progressively worsened and there have been persistent “niggling” issues with our order; mistakes being made, drinks not being served and longer waiting times. I visited today with a colleague and ordered two jacket potatoes as always. After waiting longer than usual, the jacket potatoes were served without the customary side-salad and the drinks with no biscuits. In addition my colleague felt that there was less than the usual amount of cheese and this wasn’t melted as we had requested. After some deliberation I decided to mention our disappointment with the decline in service to the staff (as opposed to just going elsewhere which we had been considering). I approached the counter and politely mentioned that the jacket potatoes had not been served with a side-salad today. The young lady who I spoke to immediately became defensive saying it was a garnish, not a side-salad and if we wanted a side salad, it cost extra. I explained that we always got a side-salad/garnish, but hadn’t today, to which she replied that it was a different chef on duty (why was he not informed of the usual salad “garnish” before the meals left the kitchen?). I said that we also hadn’t been served a biscuit with our drinks and she replied that they’d run out! (why was this not explained when the drinks were brought to the table?). At no point did the simple word “sorry” leave this young woman’s mouth, instead I felt that she was arguing with me regarding the use of the term “side-salad” rather than garnish (which wasn’t the issue as we hadn’t received either). To make matters worse, a male colleague then appeared and decided to unnecessarily involve himself in the conversation, saying how busy it had been today. This had no bearing on the issues raised (but might explain why the telephone was apparently off the hook all morning) and felt rather intimidating (i.e. two members of staff now challenging a customer’s grievances). Once again, no apology was voiced. I said to the female staff member that we just felt that since the prices had increased, the service had declined, to which she responded that the prices hadn’t increased recently in the same defensive and argumentative tone used previously. At this point I realised that any further conversation was pointless and told her that we would not be returning. Had I received a simple acknowledgement and apology today, I would have left satisfied and fully intending to return, but sadly the terrible attitude of the staff involved, has cost this cafe the business of a long-standing customer. My review and rating today is primarily based on the extremely poor manner with which my genuine, polite and legitimate “complaint” was handled.

Had breakfast 2 days on the run whilst on a trip to Manchester. The food was excellent and the staff really friendly.

We went on Saturday so it was very busy, there was a wait but we were informed of this whilst placing our order, will definitely be going again, staff very helpful and service and food was fantastic.

Shocker of a visit. I’ll be fair, when the food turned up it was ok. 50 minutes wait for even a coffee - blamed no cups….. well clear some tables! And when you clean table wipe them, all of them not just half of each table. Coffee watery. There is no need to give such awful service. No one is ever going to return. Would have been quicker to stand outside and do a Deliveroo order. Strange that customers sat at tables get the worst service. Short of glasses for water, short of cutlery, short of ideas. Give it a miss.

We had freshly cooked full breakfasts (one normal, one veggie). Both arrived quickly and we're delicious. Loads of food plus toast. The coffee was great as well

Was on my way to Costa when I saw this cafe and decided to skip the chain and try this place out. I am glad I did! Great coffee and food (had a wrap) and friendly staff.

Took ridiculously long - the waitress kept saying 10 minutes and they hadn’t even started cooking. Took an hour for them to get a wrap and some mushrooms on toast

This is one of the worst places I have ever been waited 45 min for a vegi breakfast for it to turn up with half the breakfast missing with no sign of it turning up we got a refund and left. There are plenty of better place to eat nearby

We ordered 4 breakfast, and the time between arriving the first and last dish was more than 10 minutes! And again the toast arrived almost 5 minutes after the last dish. The bacon was missing from one of the dishes that again it came so late and I didn’t find the staff unfriendly. Far from my standards. I suggest the management having a chef who does standard control before serving the food.

Definition of a baguette according to the Oxford English Dictionary: "a loaf of white bread in the shape of a long thick stick that is crisp on the outside and soft inside". Call me pedantic, but a half stale long roll, does not a baguette make. Incredibly disappointing when you're charging extra for something you do not sell.

Great breakfast, both full English and sandwich, bap was buttered, fancy sausages but that’s okay. And no choice of brown or white bread. Your not getting a huge portion for the price but ingredients used are of a good quality and they have HP brown sauce. Place your order at the till get your cutlery and sauces on the left and find a seat with your number. Food will arrive when ready, great location, and plenty of seating.

Ate here Wednesday morning great breakfast at a reasonable price. Premises were well spaced out and clean. Posh sausages!

We went here twice during our stay. As opposed to other restaurants, this one does not cater to only people who eat meat or only vegans, it also has superb vegetarian options - love the fact they add fried Halloumi, actually. The portion sizes are very large and the prices are competitive/cheaper than most. I highly recommend this to any vegan or vegetarian who wants a generous and good breakfast.

Can't fault it at all. Will be back!

Visited this place, and when we tried to order one of the breakfast items the lady said that as they were closing in an hour, they couldn’t prepare it. I found that a bit odd, since on the menu it says there’s “classic all-day breakfast.” My friend then asked to order a jacket potato, the lady said “sorry we don’t do jacket potatoes on a Saturday.” I myself even asked for baked beans and the lady said they weren’t able to warm the pot of beans up. We were both very disappointed and felt like the staff were rushing to close everything on time, even though there was still an hour left for the cafe to close.

Excellent breakfast here this morning, all fresh and served super quickly with great presentation, despite being busy. They have water in a dispenser to help yourself to and an overall bright and welcoming environment!

When I tell people. There is a,wee Italian cafe in Chinatown that does an amazing English breakfast they think I'm mental. Until I take them. Great value for money. Delicious. Staff are always great. Would only say I wish they did irn bru

Ended up visiting three days in a row for breakfast whilst staying in the city centre. Great quality, excellent value, clean and comfortable and with lovely service. Alex even gave us fabulous advice about where to take our toddler during our trip.

Unfriendly staff, walked up to order with my son and wasn’t even greeted. I never play the race card but we felt invisible. We ordered a bagel and sandwich. The bagel was very over toasted, barely edible. The sandwich wasn’t bad and a big portion. Won’t be returning and don’t understand why it’s well reviewed

The orange juice is ungodly here - although a bit on the pricier end it was still worth it. I'd watch out for arriving at earlier times than usual because the queues were massive - we were lucky to find a place to sit before it got busy.
