Gingham Kitchen in Havering

The owner of this cafe today shouted and swore at me multiple times and I had customers apologising to me on his behalf! I am a 27 year old woman and when I asked this older man to stop shouting at me he started to shout louder and began to swear at me. It was disgusting! I told my waitress (who I would like to add was absolutely lovely and more helpful than the owner) that my fried egg in my all day breakfast wasn't cooked. She took the food back from me to get it changed after apologising and made no fuss. When it was brought back to me the egg had been changed however the rest of my half eaten food had been reheated. I told her that I wasn't comfortable eating the reheated meat and as a result ended up only eating 1 fried egg and a piece of toast. She took it back to the kitchen staff and let them know. When I went to pay with the owner who was serving at the till, I said I didn't feel I should be paying for my meal that I hardly ate. He then started shouting at me, saying that I made a big issue out of nothing to which I replied I wasn't going to eat a uncooked fried egg or the reheated meat that I received back. I then asked him to please not shout at me and be rude to me as I was only talking to him about an issue. It was then that he starting shouting louder and swearing at me, telling me to f*** off and take my business elsewhere as I wasn't welcome in his cafe. This was all because I sent back an undercooked egg. I am disgusted by the way I was treated by this man. I had customers apologising to me on the owners behalf as I was leaving as he was still shouting at me across the cafe. The saving grace to this cafe was our waitress. (I can't remember her name, but she was an older lady with short blonde hair).

The staff are lovely and welcoming and the food is lovely and reasonably priced. 40+ years I have been going to this cafe, my mum loved it, and now my husband and kids love it. Top notch all day breakfast, awesome omelettes, maple syrup pancakes are yummy - well worth a visit

Went in at lunchtime. If I knew then what I know now, I should have done a runner. NO Covid safety precautions in operation. No hand sanitiser, no re-usable menus, no contact details masked for. It's places like this that have pushed us into Tier 3. Beware!!

Good basic food from a wide selection on offer. Got a table very easily and service was quick and efficient. Food arrived just as quick and was very reasonably priced

Huge menu of basic english fare from steak and kidney pie to egg n chips, omelettes, sarnies jacket pots etc. Quick service good freshly made food open kitchen, clean and well priced. Always popular and busy. Spanish omelette was lovely.

Been using this off and on for years. Food always good portion and hot. As employers i think they are terrible. Friend of mine applied for a part time jobnin there. Went 3 times for an interview only to be told hes not here come back tmrw. Rude and ignorant. She basically told them to poke their job. Says a lot about the owner.

Went to this cafe with family. The staff were really rude, our table wasn’t cleaned and staff served people that arrived after us and never came back to serve our table so I left. I have never been to a place to eat where staff are so rude, would never go back to this place.

Off to Romford for a shopping spree and we were too exhausted to go home and cook. Not eaten here for a while so decided we would eat in our favourite cafe. Chicken Escalope with egg, chips and salad. Have to say this is my most favourite dish here, delicious as usual. The waitresses are very nice here, hardworking and friendly. Would be nice to see a smile from behind the counter too!

A honest cafe in the shopping centre in Libertys Romford. Had the All Day Breakfast which was large, quick and served with a very friendly smile. Easy. Comfortable booth seats. Popular. Good menu. Easy!

This is fast becoming our place for breakfast, been here a couple of times now, the service was good, allowing my partner to switch an item as they can't eat eggs. The atmosphere is lively just in a hustle and bustle kind of way. The prices are average, portion size is good for me, and I will no doubt be back again very soon.

Have walked passed here for so many years but never visited. What a gem! Lovely feel, great service and a toasted bacon sandwich to die for. Great value, will def be back.

Called in for lunch with my friend again today. Tried the Chicken Burger, I’ve not had this before and I have to say it was really nice and hot. The waitresses are so nice in this cafe, always so friendly and very helpful

Very satisfied with the food the pancakes are beautiful, my sister had a banana spilt she enjoy it very much, the best burger in Romford. Very happy with the customer services they are all lovely people and we would all definitely go back, would recommend this for a great lunch spot.

Older waitress very rude. When I asked if they had skimmed milk for the latte she said. NO FULL FAT. Oh ok l think I’ll have a. To which she replied ILL DO THE CAPPUCCINO WHILE YOU MAKE YOUR MIND UP . When she came back I asked for large pot of tea. She said I’ll get you a mug of tea. And CAN YOU HURRY UP IM FINISHING NOW AND WANT TO GO HONE YOU KNOW . Then decided to write out another customers bill on our table using my menu while we were having a private conversation. Then. You made your mind up yet leaving I dirty cloth on our table giving other customer the bill. What a RUDE. Horrible woman. I asked for the panini my sister a toasted bacon sandwich. Well my food was like warm bread not toasted properly at all. My sisters very fatty. When I told the cook as he defiantly isn’t a chef. He said. OH. I’m so annoyed I payed I could kick myself. Would never eat in this dirty rude place again. Food awful and staff too

We use this cafe once or twice aweek, found the food to be of a very good quality, always serve to us nice and hot and good size portion ( so good value for the money ). Its a no frills cafe which can get very busy at lunch time on market days ( wednesday and fridays ).

We went into the GK today and were served by a lovely young girl (red hair) she wrote our order down exactly right yet when she took it to the cooks, they did it wrong... AND THEN BLAMED HER and said “it’s coz she is young”. Anyway, we ate and then went to pay and asked if we could tip our server. She said the tips are shared and if we gave it solely to her, she’d get in trouble. THAT IS DISGUSTING. You cannot force people to share their own tips. The cooks didn’t serve us, they got the food wrong. The waitress served us and should be allowed to keep HER tips, not chastised when she’s given them and made to share them with people who didn’t contribute to the experience at all. I’m extremely disappointed in the runnings of this place and won’t go back again.

The steak sandwhich is now off the menu, and when we asked for the steak meal we was told there wasn't any steak.

The food we received was plentiful and hot, one of ladies who served us, seemed really bubbly. When I went to pay the person at the till was straight faced and rather rude by just asking for the money. Even when I said the food was lovely and said thank you, she kept straight faced and unmoved by my comment. Will be eating here again, hopefully next time there will be someone else at the till or this individual will have learned customer service.

Went to a nearby cafe in the centre for breakfast, but after sitting 10 mins and not approached by any staff I cut my losses and left. Thought I’d be on to a sure fire winner here as cafe was busy, and usually has been anytime I’ve past before, plus it does look clean and stylish. Approached for my order pretty much straight away, fancied a breakfast roll and a black tea, pretty straightforward you’d think. Out comes a milky tea which I just accepted even though I’m not keen on the taste. Was really hungry by now, but my roll was taking ages, then again most tables were taken so assumed kitchen was busy hence the delay so fair enough. I started to get a bit suspicious after about 25 minutes or so when I noticed food coming out to tables who ordered after me, but I didn’t have the time to reorder as I had a lot of errands to get done, so off I trotted hungrier and thirstier than ever as I couldn’t drink much of the tea. So unfortunately my experience was really poor, perhaps they struggled with my accent to end up with the situation. However, the place is busy and the plates of food that were coming out looked well cooked and were decent sized portions. The waitresses were pleasant enough, and one of them did realise there’d been an error when I went to pay as I was leaving and did offer to take my order. Overall I think I was just unlucky as it seems to be popular with the locals. Next time I’m in the area though will give it a miss and try somewhere else.

Very nice place to eat. Been there a few times now, often has queues outside where it gets so busy, but worth the wait. Lovely friendly staff, very reasonable prices.

Me and my friend always arrange to meet and choose here for lunch. This is a nice and very clean place to eat. The food is plentiful and always freshly cooked with a lovely fresh salad. The service is excellent and comes with nice friendly smiling faces.

My family and I decided to come here for lunch because the place looked nice from the outside. The atmosphere and decor inside was lovely and the staff were very friendly. I ordered the cheese omelette with a side of fries and not only did everything taste great, but it was reasonably priced too. Will definitely be coming back here whenever I am in the area!

The food here is plentiful and always tastes amazing! Atmosphere is clean and friendly, staff work hard and every time I go service is very quick! Would highly recommend for the food (especially the omelettes), drinks, and hospitality you receive. Perfect family environment, me and my mum love going here every time we go into town. Been here for ever and used for ever but think i will be finding somewhere eles 2 eat getting very expensive for a cafe and portion on your plate gets smaller and smaller

Good old fashioned cafe food. My family have used this cafe for an informal bite to eat for years and years. Food is good and plentiful and cosy atmosphere.

Have eaten here many times the food is good but the prices keep going up and the portions keep getting smaller. I would suggest you try somewhere else if you want value for money

Good range of omelettes served with either chips or salad. I had the cheese, tomato, onion and spinach with lovely fresh side salad. So nice to have freshly cooked lunch served quickly and efficiently rather than fast food!

Es llamado a la cocina, para comer, con mi madre y mi padre. Pedimos tortillas de queso con queso extra con papas fritas, es dos veces, y el desayuno. Eran simplemente maravillosa. Se obtiene mucho por su dinero, y la calidad de la comida es excelente. Para las bebidas, pedimos dos cafés helados con crema y un café blanco. El Café Blanco vino gratis con la Ginham desayuno. Todos estos eran de primera calidad, bebidas y muy agradable. Para el postre, pedimos una tarta de merengue de limón. Estaba lleno de limoneros, tenía unos merengue suave en la parte superior y estaba muy bien refrigerada. El lugar del almuerzo. Cuando estamos en Romford, siempre vamos aquí para el almuerzo, ya que es, en nuestra opinión, el lugar mejor para comer.

Fuimos a la cocina es hoy, por el Día de la madre. Pedimos 2 tortilla de queso y patatas fritas y, una comida de pollo asado. Las bebidas eran de 2 tés y un café con leche. Después de la comida, pedimos postre tortitas dulces de Devon estilo. Llegaron primero nuestras bebidas. Eran encantadores y caliente, tal y como deberían ser. El queso tortilla estaban llenos de sabor y tenía un amplio relleno de queso. Para nosotros, estas tortillas, no podría ser mejor! ! El pollo asado, fue una sorpresa, ya que llegamos con un montón de pollo, un huevo frito, patatas fritas y guisantes. Fue una comida muy sabrosa. El postre, era nuestra favorita, Devon estilo tortitas. Tienes una gran tortita, mermelada de fresa, y mucha crema nata UHT. Encantador! ! Como de costumbre, esta visita a la cocina es perfecto. Se obtiene mucho por su dinero. El personal es muy amable y servicial. Lo recomiendo totalmente.

Fuimos allí para el almuerzo. Tenía un sándwich fishfinger que era realmente bueno. El vino blanco también era sorprendentemente sabrosa y servida con generosidad y perfectamente refrigerados. El straff es educado y muy atento. Volveré!

Visited with my wife and daughters for lunch. Waitress was very polite and friendly. Food was nice; for this type of eatery.They missed a trick with the desserts though........they offer a variety of scotch pancakes as a dessert (pretty much pre-packed pancakes - disappointing!) but when we asked if they could offer a simple lemon and sugar version instead of the fruit versions we were told they are unable to offer this. Yet they have lemon, sugar and pancakes in the kitchen so it would have been simple to do.In the end only my one of my daughters ordered pancakes and the rest of us decided therefore not to have a dessert, so I feel they missed a trick!

Returned to the Gingham Kitchen today, for a birthday treat. The meal was exceptional, as always. We ordered a Gingham Breakfast, 2 Cheese Omelettes and Fries, 2 Lattes, a Coffee and a Devon Pancake with Strawberry and Cream. The food was of such a high standard, and we always enjoy our meals here. The Gingham Breakfast was like a full English Breakfast, but not greasy, the Omelettes had a generous filling and were cooked to perfection. The coffees were of a very good standard, and just the right temperature for drinking. The coffees were served before our meals, so we had something while we were waiting. The Devon Pancake was warm, light and it came with a generous serving of cream and strawberry jam. Very decadent, but easy to eat. I cannot rate the cafe high enough. We will be returning again, as it is our favourite eating place in Romford.The staff are really friendly and very helpful and attentive. I would award 10 stars if I could!!

Just been there for lunch - although they do not seem as though they offer takeaway they were so helpful friendly and accommodating - I had the most amazing omelette and salad that wasn't greasy at all - will defiantly be paying them another visit soon

Called into The Gingham Kitchen after doing some shopping at Romford, and we were so glad that we did!! Bingo!! The food was excellent, the coffees were excellent and the service was fast, efficient and friendly. We ordered 2 Cheese Omelettes with Fries, a Gingham Breakfast, 2 Lattes, a White Coffee and a Lemon Meringue Pie. The meal was absolutely incredible!! You get a lot for your money. The Cheese Omelettes were very cheesy and had a generous filling of melted cheese. The Gingham Breakfast consisted of Sausage, Beans, Egg, Toast, and the best Bacon that we have ever been served. The Lattes were piping hot and had a lovely coffee flavour. The White Coffee was equally as lovely. The Lemon Meringue Pie was full of filling and was served with Whipped Cream. An absolutely wonderful meal. We will most definitely be eating there again!! 100% Service!!

This is a cafe that seems to get very busy and I can see why: good food at good prices. After a night out a I needed an big breakfast so I had sausage, eggs, chips and beans and my friend had fish, chips and peas. None of it was greasy, it was all well cooked and the portion size was very good. It's a very clean place and the staff are lovely. I'll definitely go back.

Usually pop in with friends before going to the cinema. Always busy, but you usually get a seat after a short wait. Well worth a wait, as the food is terrific, plenty on the plate and tasty. Great value, with friendly staff.

I have visited many times since my friend introduced me a few years ago. Staff are always polite and helpful and appear happy which makes the experience enjoyable. It is very clean and there are a lot of options on the menu all very reasonably priced.

This is the best restaurant I go to especially for breakfast. The staff are so friendly and the food is ALWAYS brilliant. The coffee is fantastic too. It is so popular that sometimes you have to queue outside to get a table. When we come shopping in Romford, we don't eat anywhere else. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I took my daughter to the toilet and waited for it to become vacant. A lady came out with long dark hair and a blue and white striped jumper she did not wash her hands. I thought she was a customer and thought that was disgusting but what was worse was she actually was a staff member who went straight into a small sink area. I will not eat there again.

Very clean, good service and staff and food. Hardly a spare seat very busy and good cosy atmosphere. No black pudding available which seems a bit odd if your serving cooked/English breakfasts. Maybe a name change is now in order after recent refurbishment as there are no longer any Gingham table cloths (part of the attraction), the new bright lime green one’s just don't work or rename if ‘The Lime Green Kitchen’!

This is a lovely little cafe just inside the Liberty centre. Plenty of table and chairs in a beautifully decorated unit which was noticably clean. No messy tables in here! They have a great selection of food all which is all well cooked and served in very healthy portion sizes. We ordered three main dishes between two and we couldn't finsih them all, next time we won't be so greedy! The food is very reasonably priced and is a great choice for food. If you are out and about shopping definitely stop off in here.

A very pleasantly decorated cafe. Lovely menu and a great cup of coffee. A good choice of food on the menu, from sandwiches to a main meal and is always piping hot when it arrives at your table. Is very good with lots of menu choice from around the world, quality is really nice, and staff are very friendly. Is a warm cosy family environment and it doesn't take too long for dishes to come. Good for breakfast lunch and dinner. I strongly recommend this place :))

This is a very clean, efficient and little restaurant conveniently situated in the shopping mall. We've popped in for both breakfast and lunch. Breakfast has a good selection of options and includes tea/coffee and toast. At lunch we opted for jacket potatoes but the omelettes looked great too. Fast, fresh food at very reasonable prices.

With so much fast food about these days it is good to find somewhere where you can eat a proper meal off a plate with a knife and fork right in the middle of a busy shopping centre. This restaurant has a varied menu and in the past I have enjoyed the gammon, cod, liver & onions and it's own 'Gingham Grill'. All tasty food served promptly. The seating is comfortable but you may have to wait to be seated midday as it is very popular. My only criticism is that on one occasion they got the Henry vacuum cleaner out while I was still eating, which stunk, but I think that was a one off due to a messy customer. I shall be returning and yes I do recommend this restaurant.

I have used the Gingham Kitchen many times and was surprised to find it isn't shown anywhere on Tripadvisor, so here I am to put things right. Unlike so many fast food restaurants this is somewhere you can sit on comfortable seats and eat good quality food off a plate with a knife and fork, together with a hot mug of tea. That's what makes for an enjoyable eating experience. The cooking is done in view and the place is very clean with waitress service. It is very popular with shoppers and during lunchtime it can get full, so arrive early or be prepared to wait until late afternoon. My favourite meals are the Gingham Grill and the Liver & Bacon. Yummy!
