My family of four had dinner at the Ginger Pig Cafe. The Fritto Misto was a hit whilst the garlic prawns drew praise. If you enjoy red meat then you could spend a good deal of time deciding between the lamb and the steak. Both were great cuts cooked very well. An attractively priced wine punched above its weight. The service was attentive and unobtrusive providing a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. The bill was a pleasant surprise and completed a very enjoyable dinner. Highly recommended

Very friendly service, nice atmosphere. Food is delicious but don't order too much as the portions are generous! We shared two small plates and then had a main course each and I had to take half of mine away in a doggie bag! The pork belly with potato & celeriac mash was heavenly, I would highly recommend it. The menu is small but varied and they make changes to it every month, which gives me an excuse to go back on a regular basis. Reasonably priced too. I'm so glad I found this place and looking forward to my next visit.

Came here on a Saturday night for a table of 4 last minute not knowing what to expect and we were all blown away with the service, atmosphere and food! Such great value too for the quality and portion size. Worked out £35 each for cocktails, two bottles of wine and a feast of 4 'small' (huge!) plates and two insanely good steaks. Great, cosy spot for an evening dinner. I'm so surprised it wasn't busier, this place is fantastic!

Went on a sunday early eve as a table for three, and stepping out of a wet and windy March evening was very warmly welcomed by the staff, and the welcome continued throughout our time in there. Didn't have massive expectations as we were simply walking through Hoxton looking for a place to eat. Wow! sometimes you get a meal you wont forget for a while and that's what we got and at a reasonable price. The portions were great, the food was really wholesome, and my taste buds did not want that meal to end. The menu choice was small with about five mains and four or five desserts, which is a good sign this is properly prepared food done really well. I had sirloin roast but it was cooked and served just perfectly with a great range of differently prepared veg, and a potato dish to die for. My wife had cod loin in a mint pea type base, and similarly said it was the best meal out we have had in a very long time. The desserts were home made and again, big portions and beautifully made. Very good food deserves a very good review. We'll be back next time in London.

Made a booking for lunch on the Bank Holiday Monday. Turned up to find that they were closed for the day.Not to worry, We rang the Prince Arthur on Forest Road to see if they were open. They said they were, so we turned up, and amazingly, they were open. They served us wonderful, properly beefy beef burgers and lamb cannon with samphire. The nibble plate of olives was huge and full of delicious greek olives. Also, the restaurant was open when they said they would be. That was even better than the shared dessert of chocolate lava cake and ice cream.I think the key to running a successful restaurant is that when the customer makes a booking, and the restaurant confirms it, the restaurant should be open when the customer turns up. That's probably what makes the Prince Arthur so good.

Ginger Pig is a nicely atmospheric room with a relatively informal brasserie feel. I had one gripe so I'll get it out of the way first. Cocktails from a short menu at two for £10 looks a great deal but it only applies if they are both the same cocktail which seems unnecessarily chiselling. Separately they are £7 each and very well made. There's a short menu with plenty I could have chosen. Portions are extremely generous. My smoked salmon would in many places have been halved and my 7oz steak looked more like 10-12 to me and was cooked to perfection.Drinks weren't cheap but hardly extortionate and the bill brought no sharp breaths. Friendly staff, nicely pitched music, a street with lots going on for pre and post. We'll return.

We had high hopes for our dinner at The Ginger Pig Cafe: we'd read all about the owner's philosophy and were eager to enjoy its friendly staff and delicious meat. Unfortunately, our waitress showed more loving care to the wine glasses she was polishing than to us. We were seated, given menus, and then sat and sat and sat, waiting much longer than was comfortable. It was ridiculous because the other two tables were already eaten or had just ordered: she was not being run ragged. We finally ordered wine and were asked if we were ready to order. Yes - we wanted the T-bone for 2; the Ginger Pig Cafe is famous for it. Our server pulled a face and informed us they were out of it. We'd been in the place - with menus - for 15 minutes and she waited until then to to inform us that the kitchen was 86 on its signature dish?? The only other beef choice was a sirloin (for one) which can't compare with meat on the bone. So, it was back to the menu drawing board for us; and back to wineglass polishing for her. Had to wave her down to unenthusiastically chose two appetizers and the sea bass instead. They were fine but not what we wanted when we walked in the door. The atmosphere is lovely: shadowy and dark in just the right places with mismatched chairs and various styles of well-worn plain wooden tables. But, the evening and our visit to Ginger Pig Cafe was ruined for us because of an inept server and bad kitchen planning.

Great value Portuguese brasserie. On the dinner menu, rhere are usually some tapas type starters around £5 to £7. Mains £10 to £14. Menu changes frequently but mains usually consist of some char grilled meat or fish with a homemade sauce such as salsa verde or romesco. There is usually also a slow cooked meat dish or seafood stew. The vegetarian option is always creative and tasty enough to tempt carnivores. Portions are enormous. I often take home half of my meal in a takeaway box. Two starters also makes a nice meal. Chips are excellent here.

I went to The Ginger Pig cafe assuming it was something to do with the fine butchers around London but it turns out it isn't...they've just jumped on someone else's brand and reputation. Misleading customers to attract them to the cafe is problem number one. The next issue is the the way they treat customers once they get there. The set breakfasts have an odd collection of items. When I said I didn't want chips with my pancakes and bacon (why would anyone want chips with pancakes?) I was instantly and firmly told I couldn't swap anything. They didn't allow it. I asked if I could then pay for a portion of avocado and was told I couldn't order extra items! She said everyone asks but it's policy of the chef. She told me that if everyone ordered different items they might run out of some things. Seems like customers are a nuisance to the smooth running of the chefs kitchen! There's only about 10 core items on a breakfast menu. I would have walked out then but we'd come a way to get there. When I told her reviews on trip adviser showed how unhappy customers get with being told there are crazy rules for breakfast she just shrugged. I think she deals with disappointed and frustrated customers all the time. Luckily for them the place is small enough to perhaps only need enough customers...duped by the name...to come once. I certainly won't be going again.

Ok the place looks comfortable and welcoming but the presence of the Mumford lookalike come farmer with a beard should provide an indication of its true character. It's an English breakfast for fecks sake if a customer asks for sauce HP or tomato it's not unusual and I'm sure you've been asked before a million times the fact you "don't do brown sauce" is your problem and it's not a great idea to make customers feel weird for asking, well unless you don't need them to come back.

To start, the actual name of the place...The Ginger Pig Cafe; due to the previously excellent quality of the meat and British menu we had always assumed that the Ginger Pig Cafe was either sourced by or part of the famous and extremely high quality British butchers, The Ginger Pig, which has numerous shops dotted around London. This is NOT the case; they have absolutely nothing to do with each other; which is very deceiving and seems a little unethical to be taking the name of an already established business, and using a very similar logo and sign above the door. This name tricks people into believing that the meat is from Ginger Pig Butchers, and I am afraid that this could not be any further from the truth. The past breakfast menu, especially the meat had been so glorious that both we and our friends had been convinced that this was the case for some time.Today, my boyfriend and I went to the very expensive Ginger Pig cafe which we had been going to for over a year and had not eaten at for a little while, as usual our mouths were watering at the very thought of the spectacular Lumber Jack Breakfast which includes crispy bacon, smoked ham, cumberland sausage, egg and pancakes with maple syrup and the Full Monty, a huge and varied british fry up which my boyfriend always gets.Shock horror as we sit down and notice that the breakfast menu has been completely changed and no longer offers either. The new menu is appalling; a weird mixture of mediterranean, mexican and english cuisine with items on the menu such as the prawn benedict with lumpfish caviar?? I politely Asked if it would be possible to swap an item for another on the menu (sausage to bacon) and was told NO, in fact, nothing could be swapped for anything. That is just ridiculous... since when is it not ok to swap something in a breakfast?!I chose the closest thing I could find to the old Lumber Jack which was pancakes, smoked bacon, sausage, potatoes and fried eggs. It was DISGUSTING!!! The pancakes had orange blossom, which is nice but terrible when mixed with meat and eggs, the bacon was STEAMED, thick cut smoked bacon, soggy and pale pink, not crispy in any way, tasted like wet gammon, obviously did not go with the pancakes; the sausage they had failed to mention on the menu that it was a red spiced brazilian sausage! They were full of gristle...The contrasting flavours did not combine well at all, the potatoes were roasted, what kind of fry up has hard, dry roasted potatoes? the eggs were watery... If I had not been starving by this time (40 min wait for food) I would have left everything on my plate. My boyfriend's Half Monty had 2 brazilian spiced sausages!? two fried eggs, cooked tomatoes, baked beans (arrived late, had to ask rude waitress for them) no potatoes or hash browns, no black pudding, no mushrooms, NO BACON, and to top it off, one single triangle of toast for the entire meal! They have British flags everywhere yet the don't even serve British food. Spicy sausage does not go with baked beans. There was not one English meal on the menu. The last time we had gone there was for dinner, the dinner menu was very disappointing, also a new mediterranean selection... not British food like the name of the establishment implies and had previously been; but we had not realised this would also be the case for the breakfast which had always been amazing. However we should have noticed the warning signs, such as having been refused ketchup with our french fries and roast chicken! We were told that ketchup was not served here anymore other than at breakfast, we were offered garlic mayonnaise which we accepted a little disgruntled, which ended up being garlic butter... I have no idea why a thriving business would actually choose to shoot themselves in the foot like this and fall from grace so hard as The Ginger Pig Cafe has done, whoever chose this new menu and this new meat is an idiot and clearly has no taste buds, the flavours DO NOT GO, and I urge you, NOT TO GO THERE. There are plenty of lovely little British cafes close by, a quarter of the price and that serve real English breakfasts.

A walk of a few miles along the canal had given us an appetite and we headed to a cafe we had frequented before to grab breakfast/brunch. We seated ourselves waiting staff too busy having a fag outside to be fussed about saying hello. The menus were handed and hubby wanted the american breakfast which included eggs and bacon. I with eyes bigger than my belly wanted the full Monty. This too included eggs and bacon and of course a whole lot more. "The full Monty is off" we were told we could have anything else. OK! So what was available from the full Monty I could order didn't want the pancake thing USA style? "Nothing the full Monty is off" OK? But the american dream has bacon and eggs so can I order just bacon and eggs? "No" said a rather peeved waiter "the full Monty is off which means we have nothing that's in the full Monty"! Well I tried to explain what he couldn't seem to understand. There must have been bacon and eggs in that there kitchen or was the stars and stripes stable now just pancakes and maple syrup? We gave up. There's only so much you can give as a starter for 10.I started so I'll finish.... Don't bother going here you're spoilt for choice around here.

Spent an enjoyable evening with good company eating tasty food. Very good value and not over trendy. The mixed grill was the highlight . The large platter of perfectly cooked meat was brought to our table and that was followed by even more! The chocolate dessert was scrumptious too. Very good coffee was enjoyed

Arrived at 2pm sat down...no burger on the menu! Asked if there was another menu was told this was the only menu...asked where the burgers were was told this is the only menu! Tried to check website whilst I was waiting to order but that is down too. Especially came to eat their burgers so very disappointed. Brunch Menu is limited and very shocked that there is minimal lunch options. Even in the window menu there is now no burgers listed. If I had know I would have gone to a "normal" corner cafe...

Super little restaurant in Hoxton run by lovely welcoming folk who really know how to cook simple lovely dishes. I had a starter of seared squid with chilli oil - huge portion and totally delicious because the squid was so fresh. Then we had a meat platter for two, but there were three of us and it could have satisfied 4. Beautiful steak, lamb, pork and chicken - a carnivores delight and all washed down with good quality wines at very reasonable prices. Their House wine is £14 a bottle and is good. They also do a great breakfast, the place is intimate and popular and very reasonably priced, give it a go if you are in the area.

15 pounds for a 300g steak is pretty decent value. the steak was nice - the parts that weren't burnt, that is. I understand that a bit of charring is important, necessary even, but for some reason the entire steak had a generous layer of carbon over it that made it quite unpalatable. I had to resort to scrapping off carbon, and even then every bite was bitter. The bread and butter was really nice though. I quite liked it. I might go back to give them a second chance if I'm in the area, but it's not exactly in a convenient location. Oh well.

Not a first rate experience; the place was quite busy when we arrived, but there was space for us and we were shown to a table. We then proceeded to wait ten minutes before a waitress brought us a menu, then another 15 minutes after we ordered before we received our drinks (we only asked for an orange juice and an americano!).The waitresses were friendly, but really no excuses for having to wait so long. When the food arrived there was obvious quality to the produce (my boyfriend had the Lumberjack breakfast and I had eggs Benedict) - particularly the sausages which were fantastic, however this was ruined slightly by the fact that the plates were stone cold. The brunch menu was also not the same as the one advertised on the website which was disappointing as I had set my heart on a dish that wasn't available on the morning that we visited.Don't think that we will bother going back.

I went for breakfast this weekend, my girlfriend is vegetarian and didn't fancy any of their vegetarian options. We asked for the english breakfast but with the meat removed, they said that they could do this but that we would have to pay the same, a bit cheeky but we had the choice to say no so it wouldn't be fair to complain. We did ask for a muffin instead of toast though, the waitress seemed to think this wouldn't be possible and we argued that this was ridiculous and she eventually agreed to substitute toast for a muffin. When the muffin came she informed us that this would be charged extra! We told her to take it away if there was going to be an extra charge so they disposed of it.So, not only did they charge around £9 for eggs, tomato, mushrooms and a slice of toast, they have lost my custom forever over a muffin, I can't see how you can survive in business like that...I spoke to the manager as we left and was told that the owners make the rules and they can't change it. I left my details and said that I would be keen to pass my feedback on to the owners but I don't expect a call.I guess it's ok as long as you stick to the (very strict) rules, not exactly customer focused...A real shame, but, there are lots of other nice places close by so no real loss.

We had an excellent meal a few nights ago. The steak was wonderful, perfectly cooked, excellent chips too. Accompanying salad could've been a little bit more varied. The roasted beetroot and puy lentil vegetarian main was superb too. My only criticism would be that the complimentary (very nice) bread came with what seemed like margarine. A bit of proper butter would've been better.Very friendly and efficient service too.

My friends and I went to the Ginger Pig Cafe for a Sunday breakfast treat. Besides the lovely decor, which is never very important to me and can only be a plus, I had the most delicious and original breakfast: a tower of sweetcorn and courgettes fritters, topped by haloumi, bacon and a poached egg, accompanied by a crushed avocado dip. The portion was huge and the flavor superb. The icing on the cake was the Orange, carrot, apple and ginger juice- just refreshing.I would highly recommend it if you are looking for something different from a fry-up (which I have seen on other tables and looked very good as well) and I will certainly visit again.

The Ginger Pig butchers in Hackney is legendary, so my husband and I had been wanting to try out the Ginger Pig Cafe in Hoxton for awhile. We had some time to spare yesterday before the football started on telly, so we thought, let's give it a go.The place was packed and we were lucky that two guys at a 4-seater table were happy to share with us. The waitresses were friendly and one took our order fairly quickly, and brought over water and my husband's fresh squeezed orange juice, which was absolutely delicious. That's about where the good stuff ends. We sat for at least a half-hour waiting for our food, while people continued to pour in - we were by the door so we were constantly hovered over and stuck staring at people's bums. Finally my husband's Full Monty arrived - massive and definitely delicious looking. ...I know because I stared at it for another 15 minutes while we waited for my Eggs Florentine to arrive. I finally got up to go tell the wait staff (who hadn't been by at all during all of this, despite the place being pretty tiny) to just cancel my order, when of course it appeared. It was also delicious - poached eggs were perfect, lots of spinach, hollandaise just right, but by this point I just wolfed it down because I was so hungry and we were now not going to get home in time to see the first half of the football match.I realise it was busy, but I counted and there are about 12 tables in there, with 4 or 5 wait staff. It should not be this difficult to serve people in a timely manner (or at least at the same time! Come on!), and based on previous reviews ours was not an isolated incident. Please, manager - sort it out because your amazing food deserves better!I spent a good five minutes at the end, waving wildly from the front of the restaurant, trying to get our bill. It was like I was invisible. The waitresses were staring blankly, or tidying up tables that didn't need tidying. I really don't get it. I went to the counter with my card and was told the machine was broken and I'd need to get cash. Of course. To their credit they took my Eggs Florentine off the bill. Much appreciated.Almost an hour-and-a-half later, we finally left the Ginger Pig Cafe. We got home just in time for half-time of the football match. It's safe to say I'll be getting my hollandaise fix elsewhere for awhile.

I love a weekend brunch and having recently moved to the area a quick search of the net led me to the Ginger Pig. I was not disappointed. My visit was a late Saturday morning and the place was very busy, luckily we managed to find a seat and had a chance to eye up some other diner's meals before ordering. The staff were friendly enough however we did have to chase them down to order, and then again to ask for the bill when we were ready to leave. This can be partially forgiven as they were very busy.I ordered the grilled halloumi and poached egg which was unbelievably good (I am salivating just remembering it!) I also had an orange, beetroot, apple, & ginger smoothie which again was very good. The coffee was also of a good standard.I have so many places to visit in my new area but I will be definately be going back here at some point!

I live up the road and always wanted to eat at the Ginger Pig café. The décor looks nice, I like that sort of food once in a while and it is busy, especially on Sundays, which is often a sign of quality. I finally had the opportunity today. My friend and I got there at about 2 pm. We didn't have to wait to be seated although we had to share our table with a couple. That was good timing because the restaurant was quickly full and new customers had to wait outside.I ordered the "full monty" with poached eggs and a pint of ale. My friend asked for a big breakfast platter. I can't remember its name and the menu on their website is not up to date so I can't look it up. He also ordered a lemonade. The food came relatively quickly and the portions were generous. Drinks came 5 / 10 minutes later and when I reminded the waitress about them, she said they were on their way, as if the delay was intentional. I'm not sure how much time it takes to pull a pint and prepare a lemonade,My friend told me that his lemonade was not good. Just water and slices of lime.In terms of food, it was edible. My poached eggs and his scrambled eggs were watery. Mine were cold and not salted. The salt shaker's hole was too wide but unfortunately I found that out after using it so I had to remove the excess salt with my knife. My black pudding and tomato were very hot and OK in terms of taste. Nothing special. The baked beans and sausage were average too. My hash browns triangles and those eaten by others in the restaurant looked suspiciously industrial. Likely to be frozen food. I had asked not be given mushrooms as I don't like them and none came so that was fine.I ate a slice of my friend's ham and you can get better from the deli counter of Waitrose. My friend was inviting me so he went to the service area to pay as we had seen other patrons do it. He was told that the bill had been taken to our table. He said no and he pointed to the bill next to her. The waitress told him that it wasn't ours and that ours was actually the one of the couple sharing our table. He disputed that and the waitress replied "but they haven't paid". Erm, OK, so what? And they had paid because both he and I had noticed it.Finally the correct bill was allocated to us.On the plus side: good atmosphere. My advice to the owner:1) sort out your serving staff. I don't care how pretty they are. I want people who smile, are clued-up, efficient and don't spend as much time managing people queuing outside as taking care of actual customers.2) Reduce the size of the portions. No-one finishes them and it's a waste. But improve on quality. I was expecting top quality meat and eggs but there was none of that. There are lots of nice places to eat at on Sundays in or around Hoxton, this one is not worth the visit.

The service was awful, we waited 40 minutes for our food, and when we asked the waitress she had not given our order to the chef! All in all we waited 55 minutes for our food to arrive. We were the last people in the restaurant because it took so long for our food to arrive. Other tables were having service problems as well, one person had to literally walk up to the waitress to ask for water, and another couple grabbed cutlery from an empty table! This was almost 3pm, so it wasn't busy at all in the restaurant. The waitresses were chatting amongst each other most of the time and ignoring the customers. We ordered omelettes which were fine, there was too much cheese that overwhelmed the rest of the plate, however everyone else's food was plated better so I won't comment on the overall quality of the food. I will probably not be back due to the lack of service.

My office is just down the road from this little goldmine, so we hear soon as any new restaurant opens and are always willing to try somewhere new. Ventured in with a bunch of work colleagues and now are regular uses. Nothing better than a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast or lunch. Have visited for both lunch and breakfast but have always ended up having a breakfast - who can't resist bacon and pancakes with maple syrup on a fry up!!! The decor is modern chic with trendy wine bottle racks making a feature wall. Even better for co-workers they actually have an alcohol license which pleases many. The portions are over generous but no-one is complaining and the staff are warm and friendly. I have never heard anyone complain whilst I have been there and nor have I heard any bad reviews. I wish them the best of luck.

Looked ok for early evening main course with a nice short menu and the Leg of Lamb with Rosemary, Chive mash and roasted veg with jus sounded just the job.Small red wine to go with as i waited a not unreasonable length of time for my Lamb to arrive. Not a great fan of veg so when my first taste of the roasted pepper was stone cold as i was really only going to eat mash and lamb so long as that was ok no problem. The mash was hot but thin with few chives and no seasoning..not good. The Lamb looked to be a decent cut but the cooking had clearly been haphazard with some bits almost charred and others shockingly underdone and Rosemary was clearly on holiday that day too!. Not too much eaten to be honest and when the waitress asked how was it I replied do you want the polite or the honest answer? She got the honest one (but still in a polite manner) and apologised, I then expected the "chef" to at least have the guts to come out and talk to me but no. The waitress had been great so I paid and left as had an appointment, otherwise i may well have stayed to argue for a reduced bill. So a review is the best way to let them know for future reference. Don't go here, I won't be back. Service from the waitress was good the product was poor. My advice to her is get a job where your efforts will be rewarded, leave and leave now!

The food is always good and the ingredients quality and fresh. You see that in the prices which I hope doesn't prove to be the downfall of the place (where did the included coffee go?) and i worry that they may have over estimated their core clientèle. (they may live in nice blocks but it's three to a room in some of them) but if you're looking for a local cafe you could take your folks to, this is amongst the best of a few sprung up in the area recently. The toilets have been clean and fresh when I've visited and the service prompt and polite. I'd love to see them do well but they may be in danger of pricing themselves out of the range of the everyday type user. Not much point in having one broadsheet paper when the four bored guys in there could all be reading the tabloids for the same budget kind of thing....

Ive been to the Ginger Pig 5 times now and everytime there's been something not right.1. Out meals came up 10 mins apart.2. Asked for Earl Grey tea and was given ordinary.3. Asked for a little more Hollandiase for my Eggs Benedict and was told NO.4. No sweetners. Diabetics need sweetners, not white or Brown Sugar.5. The menu is confusing. They have things that are only available for breakfast but nowhere on the menu does it tell you where breakfast ends and Lunch begins. Apart from myself I have watched numerous people try to order things only to be told they cant have it. The waitress NEVER tells people when she hands them the menu. 6. Rather than cater for the customers they have they seem to be trying to create the customers thay want. It a shame because the Ginger Pig has the potential but so far its been very dissapointing. In all of the other 'ordinary' cafes in Hoxton St, you get great service and you get what you ask for. Ginger Pig is a bit up it's self. They are not flexible and havnt grasped that the customer is the one who pays the rent.

Sadly this lovely original old pub refuses to accept cash as form of payment... Having visited for birthday drinks with a group of friends, it was a disappointment to discover that the company refuses to accept cash (legal tender) as payment for items sold in the pub. So we were unable to stay here due to lack of accepted ways to pay. So disappointing that a pub would behave like this. Especially when the locals - myself included - campaigned and fought to keep the pub open - against the ideas gentrification developers.
