Gin71 in Glasgow City

It is now called ROOTS. Excellent customer service. The food is devine.

Popped in Thursday afternoon awhile ago, ordered 2 brambles. They were disgusting, tasted of nothing but syrup and were made so quickly. Informed the male I think might've been the manager (who made them). He said this is how they're made. He was very rude. I will not be back. Don't waste your time or money. It's a shame as I've been before years ago and it was very nice

The afternoon tea was absolutely lush well worth the money as we got 1 each and there was 5 of us...loads of food on it and very attentive staff

Disappointed because we have been a few times in the last few years and loved it. Service this time was unnecessarily stressed and aggressive. It was quiet for Sat afternoon but we waited half an hour for drinks to arrive. Had drinks spilled on us and chair kicked. It used to feel relaxed and elegant. Isn't now and won't go back for those same prices. Really disappointed and please don't book.

Went for afternoon tea which was lovely. A great selection of rolls, scones and mini cakes.

This place has changed owners recently and places need a chance to work themselves out, but still. Very, very slow. It's also a shame to see Gin 71 go as it was one of the few great places in the city centre. I'm not convinced by the plans for this place that the manager has explained to us. I could be wrong. The manager (owner?) went to 'help' the person making our drinks but just turned the coffee machine on and went back to doing basically nothing. I can't fault my cocktail now that it's arrived and the server who made it was friendly, but my friend's could have had a garnish or something. I'm not sure I'll come back to find out if they improve....

The Cup and Gin 71 are in new ownership and in transition to becoming an Italian restaurant with new staff and new chef. Our experience reflects the transition and will be better once there is stability. Staff were helpful and informative, food was good, service a little slower than in the past.

Unfortunately, this bar has gone down hill significantly in the past year or so. Historically, there was a wide menu and great choice but now only a second cut menu was offered and we were told during our visit on saturday that they only stocked the 'popular' gins, totally defeating the purpose of a speciality gin bar. The service was less knowledgeable than we have previously experienced and we were directed only to popular gins that are available in most bars at a more reasonable 'non speciality' price. We have generally preferred the Gin 71 located in merchant city, which strangely was close at 5pm on a saturday. This is a real shame as this was a bar we had enjoyed with their wide gin slection.

I left Gin 71 feeling very unwelcome. I made a reservation for my family and I to come for a couple of cocktails this evening because I had such a great experience when I visited here 5 years ago. When we arrived we were sat and our waiter took or order and drinks were brought over after a small wait- one of us had ordered a flight and it was just placed down with no description and no one went through the descriptions of the gins which left us hunting down a server to tell us which was which. We then proceeded to sit for 30 min with no one checking in while the tables around us were greeted repeatedly by the staff. When we finally asked if we could order another drink from the manager we were told one minute and then no one returned. We ended up finding the bartender and asking for the check which he returned with very quickly and made us feel like we really were not wanted. Then upon leaving we walked past the same manager who didn’t say a word to us when we exited. Very disappointed with this experience..

Food is lovely. Great atmosphere. Service was just a little slow but it was busy.

Pleasantly ornate and decadent space where my wife and I enjoyed ourselves. The lovely staff contributed greatly to our experience.

Updated review. Been to G71 a fair few times now and it's fallen off the list of places to go now. Mainly because of speed of service has been insanely bad the last few times. But topped off today when a simple dirty martini was served as vodka and brine. Middle class problems. But when you're being charged over a tenner for a drink that's missing a third of the ingredients it's time to move along.

11.15 lights went on and all staff were very inattentive. Clearly they wanted rid of us despite it a Saturday night.

Gin71 don't serve food, but serve nibbles. Food is sold in cup tea lounge from 10am to 4pm then they change over to gin71 at 4:30 where they serve amazing cocktails and some really amazing gins and gin flights.

Friday night, was 30 minutes to get our first drinks and it wasn't busy. Also a bit loud, or perhaps I'm getting old.

Great gin bar, swank decor, interesting cocktail that focuses on gin but covers a range of classics. Two staff present on the sunday where very friendly and knowledgable on the menu and gave good recommendations around the city. Recommended spot to have a great cocktail in a swank atmosphere at very fair prices.

Had an amazing experience when visiting Gin71! Had some vanilla black tea and the waffles were absolutely incredible! Super juicy vibes and amazing customer service from everyone in there, really made our day! 11/10 :)

Exceptional atmosphere and decor. Wonderful cocktails as well, and we were exceptionally looked after by Steven (I think) as well. Will be back again

Great Gin bar and they are very knowledgeable

We had booked for morning tea. Actually went in to make booking and gave details of what exactly we were booking for. Also confirmed as requested day before in response to a call from them. When we arrived we gave paper copy of vouchers detailing what we booked for. Only 4 other tables occupied when we arrived. When we arrived staff member had ttouble finding booking, but apologisd and explained it was her first day. Eventually sorted and we were shown to a table. We provided paper copies of our two vouchers each clearly specified morning tea for two. We then ordered drinks. Waited half an hour. No sign of food or drinks. When we managed to catch attention of various other staff we were told bythem that they would sort out, but then they disappeared. No one helped new member of staff on her first day with preparing cocktails. We were then told problem was a shortage of staff, but others around who had arrived after we did were seated, orders taken and served whilst we still waited. We chased again. Nibbles were brought and when we again questioned not our order, we were told that was what our vouchers were for.Eventually we again showed vouchers this time on phone and were for 4th time assured by another member of staff they would deal with immediately, but they disappeared. We then prompted again to next member of staff who came to apologise what we had booked for, prompted them for third place setting, to ask us about vegetarian or traditional, and whether we wanted tea or coffee. We chose meat version and coffee. Next a member of staff arrived to say coffee machine broken! Turned out it was the member of staff I had confirmed booking with only afternoon before. We then got coffee and food arrived. We were served afternoon tea not morning tea. Even when we quiried it and they acknowledged not what we ordered, the staff member seemed uncertain why we were raising it. Felt like we were in some kind of comedy Fringe performance, but we were in Glasgow? We have given 1 for new member of staff who did her best despite lack of support from colleagues, and one for general manager who genuinely seemed upset by our experience and assured us we could redeem vouchers anytime regardless of use by date if we ever returned, did not charge for drinks and promised us a free glass of prosecco if we returned. We have been here before and had great food, great drinks and good service. Jury out if we are going back......for episode 2, but definitely not for some time.

Late Saturday night staff are a bit dim-witted, so do avoid if you're looking to have a good time. We came for cocktails after dinner and half of us received the wrong drink. I saw our waiter pick up a margarita and bring it to the table, we said we didn't order it so he took it back and brought over another drink which was something we'd ordered. Then he brought back the same margarita and said "who ordered the caipirinha?" like we wouldn't notice it was a margarita. This happened a couple of times with different drinks and it was a mess. We complained and were told "if you can't remember your drink order it's not our problem". I get it, it's late on a Saturday, it probably seems like a great time to run sham bar trying to fob off cheaper drinks for higher prices... or just try and blame staff incompetence on drunk customers. You could probably get away with it as well, but that would rely on you being clever enough to identify a drunk group of people which it appears they're unable to do.

One of my fav places in Glasgow so far. Nice atmosphere, good service and tasty drinks 🍷 Looking forward to visit again.

Best ever experience of having a real good night out! The place is great 👍 Surrounding are amazing people who serve fantastic and so knowledgeable in their area's.

Delicious gins with an extensive menu and many options and things to compliment to choose from, and lovely staff, as well, but only just two negative notes, one staff member got a lot of our drinks wrong, didn't write anything down when taking our order so to be expected, but we didn't get a chance to complain or have them changed as, (next note) the waiting staff with the ear length hair and earrings, wasn't attentive towards us and when they were their attitude towards us was patronising and extremely unpleasant, I felt like I was being spoken down to. Wouldn't have hired them in my own bar as waiting staff. However, everyone and everything was so very lovely

Sunday closing time advertised as 23:00 but was greeted by a receptionist who ushered us away by stating we missed last orders at 22:00. Seems an hour is required here to mix a gin and tonic! Perhaps we didn’t meet the dress code? Unfriendly and unimpressed. Do not recommend.

If you are looking for somewhere to impress you can’t go far wrong with Gin 71. The interior is really quite special. Decadent, romantic, arty. I loved it. The drinks were fairly affordable and tasted great. I recommend the Negroni and the Ginstar Martini. Service is friendly but not the fastest so go early if you have onward plans. Great date venue or for a special occasion

An exquisite interior with Victorian tiling throughout. I have only ever had drinks therein. I cannot vouch for the food. However, each time I am there the patrons appear happy and gay (in the old fashioned sense).

Booked in for a gin tasting with my family and had a lovely time during the whole event. The whole tasting was set up very nicely with each group at their own table and a table setting laid out detailing the gins in order. The person running the tasting was fairly knowledgable and made the effort to engage with every table. This was a nice touch as I have been part of tastings that don’t have that personal touch. The gins we sampled were a good selection of styles and flavours which ensured there was something for everybody. The pairings with mixers was also explained for each one which was appreciated. This is definitely something worth doing if you are keen to try a range of gin styles and want some more information about what you can pair them with. The tasting was very tailored towards those new to gin, and is a fantastic entry point.

So, so good. Staff is so knowledgeable about all the different gins and mixers available.

This place was absolutely wonderful to visit and the staff are even better. They did so well in accomodating me. I'm not really a huge drinker so I didn't really know what to order but they helped me so much in choosing some fantastic drinks that I could have drunk all day long. They also did their best to feed me as I had just come off a flight from the airport so they brought out some little snacks for me that I could enjoy with my cocktails. They are definitely gin experts and this place is now absolutely my favourite bar despite me living in Birmingham. I hope to visit Glasgow more often for the sole purpose of drinking at this bar with my family.

Wow!!!!! The gin menu is just massive and the afternoon tea is awesome. Get Itison vouchers as it is dear at normal £24 each. Beautiful place. The marble is amazing. Former bank I think. Really an experience you won't forget.

I have been here before and it was terrific. This time was a bit of a disappointment! It didn't have any atmosphere at all. The measures are ridiculously small for the price. Maybe that is why the place was so quite? Considering it was a Saturday evening in Glasgow City Centre, it should have been REALLY busy. I don't know if I would bother going back again. There are much better places to go in Glasgow.

Just loved everything about this place. The staff couldn't do more for us, even gave us umbrellas when we left as we werent prepared for the rain! They know their stuff when it comes to the drinks and all made beautifully...will defo be going back.

An absolute lovely experience for cocktails and gin enthusiasts, the seating is well spaced and private with a good atmosphere, prices are very reasonable for the quality, had a lovely time and would recommend to anyone seeking a quiet and enjoyable drinking experience, Salted Caramel White Russian is one of the best cocktails I've had in a while.

Crackin surroundings and a monster gin selection

We came to Gin71 to test their famous afternoon tea, with gin, just to find out that they just have finished serving! When the waitress heard that we came a long way just for their afternoon tea, she talked to the kitchen and we got served the most wonderful afternoon tea and had a very special experience.

Lovely coffee, lovely surroundings. Visited near the end of the day though and it was a bit off putting having the staff cleaning up around us, despite it still being within their quoted "opening hours".

Popped in to Gin 71 and had a lovely afternoon. The staff were so friendly and happy to help and be there. Dancing around to the music and just enjoying there work. It was really refreshing to see. And don't get me wrong the gin was great as well!!

Had a lovely time in Gin71, an extensive list of 71 gins, with cocktails, beer and Cider available. The service was very good, informative and made you feel at ease. Highly recommend one of the sharing cocktails served in a teapot, the pink gin fizz was really good.

Very nice selection of gins, the place is stylish and the waiters/waitresses are really classy and elegant. The staff keep the masks on which I appreciated and they are very helpful. expect pricey drinks though and I had to pay deposit to book.

The teapots gins are excellent, not so fussed about the flytes. Overall, doesn't quite live up to the hype.

After visiting Gin71 many times over the last few year I decided to book a table for 4 on Saturday. Arrived 5 minutes early and was told there were people still at our table, no problem. Waited outside and someone told us to go along the side and downstairs into "QS" as our table was ready. Downstairs is no reflection on the usual service whatsoever. Loud dance music, very dark and feels quite run down. Ordered 4 gin flights which took 30 minutes to come - not sure why. Staff were extremely helpful and attentive but could tell they lacked experience, which doesn't bother us but expect more given the prices. Gin was good nonetheless. It should be clear at the time of reserving where the booking will be seated as 50% of the experience is the decor upstairs!

The food we were served for high tea for 4 people would have been ample for 2, also the tea was lukewarm and it took 15 mins to get a fresh pot

Great place, been twice now and will be back to try the tasting menu on offer then call it. Only gripe is the price, if you want to sit there and try a number of different gins it's really going to set you back a fair few $$, particularly given the availability of a lot of craft or speciality gins in licensed premises these days

Went here whilst on holiday in Glasgow, staff were all lovely but the cocktails were such a rip off, 90% soda water. Whetherspoons standard but 10 x the price. Such a shame cos the setting is beautiful but was a huge let down.

Really nice little gin bar with plenty of options to choose from. The staff are clearly very knowledgeable and are able to help you come to a decision. A little on the pricey side but nothing too ridiculous. Would highly recommend popping in for one or 2... Or 5. Haha
